I have no idea how I have missed reviewing this spot. We go to and work at the California Strawberry Festival every year coming from Mesa, AZ. It used to be in Oxnard, and we had a tradition of a group of us going out on the Saturday night of the two-day festival. It then moved to Ventura so it could use the county fairgrounds and be a larger gathering of people at the annual event. Since it moved, we decided to find a new place to eat. Originally, we picked out about three different places, from Yelp, of course. Drove to the first two and they were crowded with limited to no parking. So, we all ended up at Sushi Fresh and have not looked back. Great staff inside. Greeted and felt welcome from the start, we now look forward to returning and seeing the same smiling faces each visit. You know it is a terrific place when the staff does not have high turnover. The food is fantastic. The sushi rolls, edamame, etc. are wonderful but the best part is how many items they have that are not sushi, in case you come in with a group of diverse eaters. Personally, I go for the dinner box - pick any two entrees and it comes with rice, soup, salad, and your choices. I usually get a teriyaki chicken and a sesame chicken, but this time went with the teriyaki and a Mexican Roll. Loved it. Already looking forward to our next visit, next year. Highly recommend this place to friends and family year-round even though we get in just once a year. Totally worth it. read more

Food was just okay. Sushi chefs and manager are not the friendliest. Sushi chef was mad dogging me for no reason even when I smiled at him. The manager didn't even greet us when we walked in. She was just standing there looking towards us with an annoyed face. She also she handed us our check without saying anything, not even a smile. She ONLY greeted and made conversation with people she knew that walked in, maybe her regulars? At least the servers were friendly.. but still not coming back here again. I'll admit it, have recently gotten into sushi but have no idea what I am ordering. So this time I took an expert, my "unofficial adopted mother". She recommended this place as one of her favorites in town. When we arrived the host greeted us with a warm welcome and sat us down. When it came time to order I tried to order a Tiger Roll, remember I am a newbie. He wasn't aware of that but was real cool about it and didn't make me feel ignorant. He made other suggestions and we decided on three rolls (Crazy, Dragon, Snow) and they were all good. I really enjoyed the eel sauce on the Crazy(?) roll and I believe the Dragon roll was very close to the Tiger rolls I have been ordering. Again I have no idea what I am doing so I may have mixed up the names of the rolls. The place was very clean and cold which was very pleasant and relaxing. The host/server was also very attentive and nice. We already have plans to return and try more rolls. Hopefully, I'll see some of you there. read more

Quick, easy, and clean sushi spot with great tasing sushi. Service was attentive and every employee was checking in, bringing refills and such. Our food came out quickly. We ordered Miso Soup, Fried Rice, two Philadelphia Dream Rolls, a Rainbow Roll, and tempura Loco Roll. All for a decent price! My favorite was the fried rice and Philadelphia Dream Roll. We sat at the sushi bar but it did not feel like sushi bar service. We had to wait a reallly long time for sushi and it was served all at one time, the kind of service usually for a table. There were 3 sushi chefs but no real personal service. The nigiri was good, nothing out of the ordinary. The stand out was the spider roll, really excellent and the sweet shrimp was nice, though not served was the dipping sauce on the side. We have bounced around sushi bars since Hanada closed, this was good enough. They were doing quite a take-out business, maybe this was the reason for the wait. read more

I moved from Las Vegas one year ago and I loved all you can eat sushi there. Now while this is not all you can eat I have not been able to find a sushi place that I feel lives up to the ones I left behind until this place!! I really enjoyed this sushi spot. I went for the first time last Saturday and opted to sit at the sushi bar. The fish was very fresh, and the service was excellent. We had a waitress who was very sweet and professional. The place has a low key, casual vibe, with soccer playing on one TV and Avatar on another. I had read reviews mentioning that the food can be slow to come out, which I believe is due to the volume of to-go orders. I advised my partner not to expect very fast service. We also didn't arrive very hungry, which I would recommend for future visits since it does take some time, like many sushi places. We weren't in a rush and enjoyed our time. The phone ordering process was smooth, and my food was ready right on time--always a plus when you're hungry and craving sushi! Also appreciated the thoughtful packaging. My friends showed up a few minutes before 8, which is start of happy hour. I should up after eight. We were told that none of us could get happy hour prices. I stress, it was only a few minutes. Though frustrated we stayed and paid full price. our frustration l, they returned it in full. However, our frustration was nothing compared to the frustration of the serving staff. This felt like our very presence annoyed them. One of the server even came over to the table mildly exasperated and said "are you ready yet?" That was bit much. Look, the food was good. And if that is the only part of the process, I would be fine, but the customer service needed a lot of help. As someone who actively works in the service community, my only hope is this was an off day. I visiting Sushi Fresh for the first time last week on a Friday evening because it's right next to the Taekwondo Plus studio where my children were taking a class. I made it in for their happy hour (ends at 6pm) and got seated quickly at the sushi bar. The service was quick, although they were getting busy around 6pm. Their happy hour menu is similar to other sushi happy hours but has a lot of sushi and roll options. The sea urchin was very tasty and eel fresh and warm. I didn't do a full meal because I had family dinner plans afterwards, but we could see doing dinner here in the future. There are not many table in this restaurant, so recommend arriving by 5pm to get a nice booth. The other tables seemed to be right in the middle of the restaurant and can get breezy every time the door is opened. read more

Sushi Fresh is one of my new go to spots when in Ventura! The sushi is so fresh and I keep finding myself wanting to come back because they have such an extensive menu - in which everything I have tried has been 5 stars. The pros: there is plenty of parking as they are located in a big shopping mall. Easy to find and the restaurant itself is a decent size that I've never had to wait to be seated. Service has always been pretty decent. There have been times we've had to tell them that we were in a bit of a rush due to our lunch break timeframes and I always felt they heard us and did everything they could to get us in and out. No rudeness or annoyance at our requests - everyone honestly has been really nice and cool here. For that I've let them slide when a water was forgotten to be refilled or little things, but overall everyone here seems to be really nice and accommodating. The sushi is definitely 5 Stars and they do not skimp on the portions! I really feel like sushi fresh is one of the best values in terms of quality and quantity. Recommendations: -All of their hand rolls are really good! -Salmon Nigiri -Baked Lobster Roll -Bento Box here is my go to! Their California roll and tempura while simple is delicious. Add a hand roll and it's all money baby! -Flavorful miso soup (yes it's just "miso soup" but really yummy and warms you up). I haven't had a dish here that I didn't like so all in all I'd say Sushi Fresh is a solid 5 Star casual sushi joint when your in Ventura. Please give them a try. read more

Was invited here to eat dinner with a couple of friends and found the place to be bustling busy, but also the wait staff to be hustling to keep up with it all. Service was on point and the dining room lighting, noise level and ambiance were all decent and offered a clean place to eat with a ton of menu options. It has been a few years since I've been here so I decided to give them another try. I'm *always craving sushi and sometimes like to try different places in the area. Sushi Fresh was up next! Called in my order and it was very seamless. Yay. I had a pretty big order and was praying for no issues since it was a pick up order. So far so good. The young man who took my order was helpful as was the young man with whom I interacted with when I picked up my order. I asked for some extra sauces just to ensure we were covered. The rolls: Good. Basic. OK. Not outstanding, but not bad either. Just regular. I mean, we loved them all and didn't have any concerns/complaints, thankfully. After moving to the east side of Ventura a couple years ago, we'd definitely gone through the slate of sushi spots this direction. I love sushi is obviously a great staple, and became our go to spot but as soon as we found sushi fresh, our allegiance changed. Sushi fresh is CONSISTENT. How important is that?? The sushi is great, the rolls are as well...and they have a few VERY unique and creative rolls. Try the firecracker roll! We, fortunately/unfortunately come once or twice a week. Sushi is expensive, haha, but it's oh so craveable here that we just can not help ourselves! The chefs are professional and take their job seriously and the wait staff is perfect. I'm a cook myself, and my wife is a front of house manager so you know we know. Give this spot a chance, I can't see how you'd possibly regret it read more

However, the albacore and whatever other light fish was a bad cut or something, because the pieces were stringy and just very unappetizing. We came in as a family of six (2 adults and 4 kids) for dinner. The service was great, and the fish was fresh and rolls delicious. Our food came out quickly and as we ate the servers came by to clear the table. We loved it until the end of our meal. When we got the bill we noticed that the server had added auto-gratuity because we were a family of six. This was pretty disappointing firstly because our group included 4 kids under 9 that barely needed anything, and 1 of which was an infant. Second, we were very conscious of keeping our mess to a minimum and tried to be thoughtful of making extra work for the server. The menu does say that gratuity might be added but this happened without us knowing at first so our normal amount of tipping would have been added on top and we would have paid way more than planned. I think we are more frustrated that we were looking forward to coming back and then the end of our meal ruined that. read more

We ordered soon as we walked in, but our food came out 40 minutes after. Take out should be ok. Also, the playlist is always the same! we need some k-pop playing!
