I'm conflicted. I came here 2 days in a row. Day one I ordered just a salmon sashimi and it was amazing, 10/10! Day 2 I ordered salmon sashimi, and a few nigiri- eel, salmon belly, and scallop. The nigiri were all delicious, the eel is a very generous size, the scallop while smaller were delicious, and the salmon was tender. My 3 stars is due to the sashimi day 2, out of the 7 pieces 6 of them had small bones, I'm not sure if they weren't cleaned properly or the cuts were not done correctly to avoid bones but that was an incredibly unpleasant and unsafe experience. I'm just thankful it wasn't my nephew eating that as with the sizing that would have been an extreme choking hazard. Based strictly on that I don't think I would return but if you do try this place the fish itself was tasty, just be cautious as you eat.

First time trying Kuu Sushi in Ventura via Grubhub and honestly they really delivered. I'm currently doing low carb, which can make ordering takeout feel a little limited, but I was craving sushi and was pleasantly surprised to find options that skip the rice. I ordered the OMG roll, House Cucumber roll, garlic soy beans, miso soup, and seaweed salad. Delivery was quick and reasonable. Everything showed up hot, fresh, and with all the things. Always a small miracle when nothing is missing from a delivery order. The rolls were satisfying, the sides were solid, and the value felt fair for sushi takeout. From the photos online, the ambiance looks cozy and low key, so I'd definitely be open to dining in next time. Sushi craving officially handled. I'll be ordering again.

The food here is definitely worth the price! My favorite sushi here was the tuna, it was really buttery and very delicious! Only thing I want to comment is maybe have low sodium soy sauce but other than that, super delicious! The server was really attentive and it was easy getting their attention even though we were seated in the far back corner. From the outside it looks like a normal restaurant but the interior of the restaurant was really pretty and it definitely gives off date night vibes.

Ive been here a couple of times for their lunch special. It is a lot of food for the price and decent for the area. I usually get the garlic chicken but order it less salty because their regular version is overly salty and inedible. The salad is so refreshing and I love their pickles. Salmon is good. Service is usually friendly and attentive. Parking is in a shared lot and they are tucked in the corner across from the coffee shop.

Sorry but I will not be returning here.. First off, there was a miscommunication with our server because I specifically asked her if the roll I ordered came with any sauce - she said "what do you have in mind?" Which is odd instead of answering with a simple yes or no. I asked for eel sauce on the side and my roll ends up arriving with spicy mayo on it. I sent it back as I do not like mayo at allll. This is why I asked beforehand! They reacted as if I was inconveniencing them and the whole thing kind of threw me off. After they bring me a new roll, I see there's a hair in the middle of two pieces!! Gross. I didn't even want to send it back again so I just didn't finish my roll.

Yes, I love sushi. So I have to try a new sushi place in my neighborhood. About Kuu sushi, the food, service, atmosphere, and prices were all well-balanced. The only thing I didn't like was that the sushi chef was higher than the sushi bar, which made me feel a little distant. I ordered some rolls; Jessica and Marine boy. Also, I ordered Tempra. Everything was delicious. Unfortunately, Sake selection is not extensive. Parking is in front of the restaurant. The service was excellent.

Love this place! Staff was so polite and accommodating as we had a large group, food came out quickly, Sushi was very flavorful, the baked lobster roll had like a creamy cheese sauce I've never had it prepared that way but it was pretty yummy and the food was filling, They had siracha sauce for me which i love cause I'm one of those people that needs siracha w sushi lol Had me a yummy peach soju and pretty cool spot and ambiance, we got sat outside in the patio area and they had heaters

Been here a couple of times but this is my first time being helped by Daniel and it was a fantastic experience. He was very friendly and kind to us and made this lunch date special.

-Ventura has a new sushi GEM! So glad we tried Kuu Sushi! They have been open for about 8 months now. We tried the crazy horse rolls & the baked salmon roll. Let me tell you - both were chefs kiss. I loved how fresh the food tastes. It was a packed house but we were able to reserve our spot online via Yelp. Love the artwork and decore, very vibey. Our waitor and bussers were so helpful and kind. Can't remember our waiters name but he has curly hair - he paid attention to all of the details and ensured our food was made to perfection. I heard they have a good happy hour and will definitely be returning for some yummy food & fun! If you're in the area or want somewhere for lunch or date night - definitely recommend!

Thanks to my amiga, Angela R. for my bday lunch. Sooo sweet and she drive down from Santa Barbara. I'm a lucky gal! We both had this sushi spot on our to go list . Cool restaurant with very sweet staff. My Darien's wasn't wowed but we both enjoyed the rolls we got . I got the SalmonLover and my friend had the Garlic Albacore. The dumplings were really good! Plenty of seating , not too busy and modern ambiance.

Wow! Finally found the best sushi bar around! Not kidding! The fish is so fresh here! The yellowtail, albacore, oysters, Japanese scallops, uni... everything delish! We came on a Wednesday night and it was packed! They are so friendly-not at all stressed by the numbers, clearly well staffed! So grateful for the only 2 seats at the sushi bar that were waiting just for us! We were greeted fast for our drink order and soon after our server took our first round of sushi order... the rest of our sushi we just ordered from the chef. They had a few guys working the sushi bar, constantly busy preparing food and still very friendly. We chatted with Jay quite a bit while he was preparing sushi orders, (He's the manager) and he gave some recommendations that did not disappoint! Our server was so attentive, always checking on us. Also Hani ("honey") she was attentive and kind. Very welcoming! We chatted with her for a while too. I think she is a manager as well? We absolutely loved our dinner and will definitely be back soon! I highly recommend choosing Kuu when you need a sushi fix! This is the place to come! I believe they take reservations too and they were telling us they're very very busy on the weekends so keep that in mind!

Be decided on a Sashimi, Sushi, Tempura dinner. We ordered a bottle of hot Saki and an order of edamame to start! A Dinner of Spicy Chicken with Mixed Tempura for the wife & A dinner of Garlic Chicken with Vegetable Tempura for my DIL. My son and I split the SAHIMI SPECIAL B 31 pieces. 4 pieces each of assorted sashimi with 2 ebi tuna, salmon, albacore, yellowtail, escolar, seared tuna, 3 octopus, and 2 Japanese scallop & an order of Yellowtail Lover Sushi along with a Yellowtail Belly Sushi. Our favorites were the Octopus, the yellowtail and the Salmon although everything melted in your mouth like butter! 1 Coedo (Ruri) and 1Asahi for drinks! The seating is tight at Kuu make sure you reserve they do have outside seating! Inside you actually can witness the Chefs preparing the Sushi & Sashimi. The service is excellent with many people working together.

Feels very contemporary and not like a darker wood ambiance of more traditional Japanese sushi places. This place must generate most of their business from their super packed HH. Once 5pm hit, it got noticeably busier, and by 530pm- fully packed. Sumo is maybe one of the few places that allows takeout of their HH items because they know how crowded they get. That is generous of them. I think their prices are among the most affordable for HH sushi around this area and everything was fresh. I am not picky sushi rolls person, but I would guess their sushi quality is average, made for mass consumption and general public, not for people who really want Japan level top grade sushi/ sashimi. Service: it all depends. Most of the servers are college aged young women. So a lot of them huddle and talk during busy HH time while they constantly scan the busy entrance for new diners. It can take awhile for someone to actually come take your order; we were lucky our server was pretty sweet natured. But in general I don't get the vibe that most of the servers are very focused about their jobs. But with busy HH, warm and friendly service isn't a priority. We're here for the HH deals and fresh affordable sushi. For these points, Sumo delivers. The ambiance: modern and bright, not my first choice. I prefer more low key settings. I think if I came to eat solo, eating at the sushi bar would be a pleasant experience, if I came before 5pm rush.

Interior is…read morekept up well, it has a very cool vibe and what you would expect for a Japanese restaurant. There are multiple Teppan stations on one side of the restaurant and the other side is set up for sushi dining. We arrived 15 minutes before they opened and started seating. We were seated very promptly at 4:30 by a very friendly hostess. We were surprised to see the restaurant at least in the Tappan area full by 5 o'clock. That's always a good sign. You want to eat at a busy restaurant. The Teppanyaki menu has you choose your proteins, steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops, lobster, fish. Then It starts with soup, we ordered both the onion and the miso to try both. Our consensus was the miso was better. The miso must be traditional as that is what we have always been served at other Teppanese restaurants. Next is a little green salad with the house dressing. I swear the miso soup and the house salad seem to be the same in every Teppanese restaurant. Then the show begins. We all chose the upgrade to fried rice then the grilled vegetables each entre comes with three grilled shrimp. It's an appetizer. Always keep in mind with Teppanese they grill and put these things on your plate one at a time. Do not wait for everything to be cooked before starting or the rice and the vegetables are going to be cold by the time you get your protein. They brought the birthday girl a nice chocolate sundae with a candle and took a picture that they delivered to us. All in all a fantastic evening. Thank you to all the staff at O-sabi

The reason do 3 stars is that our soup bowls had dried food on the outside, which was a bit off-putting. Cleanliness is important, and that detail took away from the experience. We ordered 5 things, 2 rolls, one meh, the cherry blossom, one expectedly good, the crunch (reliability good across all locations unless something is seriously wrong) And finally one so bad that it was sent back after my father and I tried one, the Thomason. My father ordered the chicken katsu, one worthy mention is the oiliness of this along with it being significantly more bread than chicken. Gyozas (fried) were equally oily and the sauce being entirely unflavored, in favor of more oil. Finally ambiance, leading back to the first point, it's certainly new management, as previously, the ambience was immaculate, the staff were mostly Japanese, the songs were good, and while the seating was certainly cramped, it felt natural in a very Japanese way. Now the previously mentioned tight-quarters is quite glaring, as the music is the classic mix of pop and rock that fills places with no identity, the staff are mostly Mexican, and while I have nothing against that, its quite weird to be in a Japanese restaurant listening to Spanish. Unfortunately I am one who reviews only when something extremely interesting happens with the food and location, and the interesting happenstance at this restaurant is how much it is not worth your time or money anymore.
