I can't rave enough about Kyte. For jobs I am working on outside of Manhattan, it has been a game changer.

I've been using Kyte regularly since February - about 6 months and 6 trips so far. It's been amazing! The cars are clean and new. The "surfers" drop-off and pick-up on time and are genuinely nice. They seemed to really care about making sure Kyte was a good experience. The price is comparable to other rental cars, but with the huge added convenience of delivery. I've used cars for both day trips and long weekends, and have a car booked for a week coming up (for my sister's wedding!). I've actually been in touch with Kyte customer service a few times - always able to speak to a live person and get the issue resolved quickly. Once the gas was low when delivered, I took a photo of the gauge, texted it to them, and they quickly confirmed that I wouldn't be charged for a full tank. They've been a little late for 1 pick-up and 1 drop-off but communicated well and always arrived within 30 minutes of the scheduled time. I also really appreciate that I've been able to seamlessly extend my trip for a later return on the same day for free. There are 2 things I'd love to see Kyte improve/add-on. I'd pay for an option for larger cars that seat at least 6. I also have mixed feelings about the new option to add a tip for surfers. It's always nice to have the option to tip folks, but I'd rather have a guarantee from Kyte that everyone is appropriately paid and not having some of their pay based on the whims of all of us users. read more

Very poor service! No one appears to be able to answer basic questions and their screening process is likely illegal. I've rented cars from every car company out there over the last three decades or so and NEVER been denied a rental but this company has you upload your drivers license and then does some kind of "screening" and will reject anyone it's "algorithm" doesn't like and no one will respond about why the "algorithm" rejects drivers let alone provide you an appeals option. Honestly a great experience. Was suspicious of the low prices compared to everyone else (especially over the holiday), but ended up with a car in great condition, extremely friendly and helpful Kyte personnel, very clear instructions (over text and through an app that was actually nice and useful), plus they don't try and gouge you over tolls, a nice bonus. read more

We have used Kyte twice now, and we're loving how much time we're saving. The only thing that has been a upsetting is that both times we left items in the car by accident. It's kind of hectic handing the car off in front of our building in a small window of time and making sure we, and our kids, have double checked the car. We left brand new Ray Bans in a case the first time and my son's wallet and air pods the second time. Both times I immediately contacted Kyte, but they have not recovered the items. I know it's our fault for leaving items in the car, but we have left items in other rental cars, hotels, etc. and pretty much always got them back. In the this case, I don't understand why they can't just contact the surfer and whoever received the car and see who has our things? read more

We gave up our car here in NYC and decided this was more cost effective since we don't use the car often. We also used Kyte in San Francisco and had the same service. Delivery and pickup at your apt door is great. However they have the WORST customer service. Not responsible and incapable of understanding scenarios even when explained to them over text multiple times. If you have no issues then great, but if you ever need to contact customer service, then you'll want to pull your hairs out. read more

They rescheduled my trip in the middle of the night to 11 am so there was no car at 7 am and no response from customer service. This is not a reliable car rental company and I would not use this service for a car that you are relying on to have at a certain time. They do not have a customer service phone number or 24/7 online support. read more

the Kyte surfers were great and the car was good (although minor inconvenience of wiper fluid being empty). However, what really caused an issue was Kyte's authorized user policy. I had a work event during the dropoff time (the only possible time we had available to pick up the car for our trip early the next morning) so I added a secondary driver (my wife). She completed all necessary steps and was successfully added as a secondary driver prior to the arranged delivery time. However, it turns out that Kyte's policy is that secondary drivers are not allowed to accept delivery of the car. I do not understand the reason why a pre-authorized secondary user of the car, especially one who is the spouse of the primary driver, is not allowed to pick up the car. I had to leave my work event across town extremely early just to pick up the car, even though my wife was there - ready, willing and able to pick it up. This policy is frustrating and the resulting Kyte experience I had from it was extremely disappointing. read more

I loved everything about my rental experience with Kyte. It was so easy. I usually do crazy inconvenient things to get better rates on car rentals (seriously, I take a ferry to Queens, then get a citibike to ride to LGA to pick up the car). With Kyte, they meet you out front of your apartment, you show your license and sign and wavier, and hand you the key...that's it! Same thing when they pick it up from you. And the best part was that it still cost $50 less than what I would have paid at LGA. I just hope the prices stay this reasonable! Another thing I really appreciate was that I could customize the coverage I needed. I have the CDW coverage with my credit card, so I was able to decline that coverage and still pay for the third party insurance my credit card doesn't cover, which made the price way more reasonable than other car rental companies. Customer service sounded literally like a bot. They rejected my application for an unstated reason and told me to reach out to their 3rd party vendor to see why I was rejected. The third party vendor told me kyte needed to provide the information... everyone just talked to someone else. super poor customer service just to TRY and rent. kept telling me to come back in the future to consider them again when I was approved but still couldn't tell me why I wasn't, when I would, or even work to see why and how to resolve it.... read more

I almost never leave reviews for any business, but my experience with Kyte has made me actually want to write one. I recently tried Kyte for the first time this past weekend and absolutely loved it! I was intrigued by how affordable it was and the benefits of them picking up and dropping off the car for you as well as taking care of filling up the gas tank. My car arrived within the time frame given and it was the cleanest rental car I've ever used. It was in great condition and offered awesome features like CarPlay and Bluetooth. Additionally, as a dog owner in NYC, I was over the moon to finally find a car rental service that allowed dogs in the cars. When I needed help adding something for my trip, the customer service was very helpful and got it sorted out for me within no time. Both of the Surfers I had were extremely pleasant and nice to interact with. Overall, I had a 10/10 experience. Finally, an affordable car rental service in NYC. I will without a doubt be using Kyte again and I can't recommend it enough. Thank you, Kyte team! read more

Customer service is non existent. I rented a car and needed to change the time. I reached out over the app to inquire about the change. I was placed in queue and then it was radio silence. After 5 hours, I received the following message - "Due to inactivity, I'm going to go ahead and close this conversation." Sure the price may be cheap, but it's pretty obvious the reason for the low price is that they cut corners, like not hiring staff. read more

First time using Kyte and to say I am unimpressed would be incredibly kind. The car was an hour late with no communication. After having driven 70 miles we realized the Kyte surfer never gave us the key fob and we knew we were driving on borrowed time. We pulled into a rest stop, and after idling for a few minutes, the car locked down. We are still sitting at the rest stop two and a half hours later waiting for someone to bring us a fob. Day one of our vacation is shot to hell. What an absolutely miserable experience. The convenience of having the car brought to me was the most tempting part of the rental. But it wasn't worth the pain. DO NOT TRUST KYTE. Lousy service. No help. Never again will I use Kyte. App based companies with skeleton crews are too unreliable. read more

Encountered 3 reps: 2 nice & knowledgeable, 1 not. App on my Android crashes, ID verification difficult due to recognition issues. Car delivery and pickup were seamless. Car was in good condition, but speakers gave out static when connected to phone via Android Auto. Very frustrated and angry about being mistakenly charged $72 for fuel when I refueled it myself. Can't rate the app more than 1 and the company more than 2 stars. Won't use this company for my next rental. read more

HELLLOOOO CITY MICE! There is a new way to rent a car in the city. The KYTE app, they deliver the car to you and pick it up. Weekday prices are like $52 a day and weekend is only $82 a day. It's a dream, no more Ubers to the airport!!! They also take care of refueling at market value. You get 600 miles and anything over is just another $18 a day. So make sure you know how far you're going. I think it's .45 cents a mile if you go over. Insurance is also super cheap. I've been using Kyte for over a year and I truly won't go back to any other rental car service. I've made about 5 different rentals to date where every car has been extremely clean and reflective of a new model with things like Apple CarPlay, etc. The fact that the car is delivered right to your door AND is where you drop it off has been such a game changer. I'm based in NYC so you now have the option for delivery or picking it up at a lot to fit your budget needs. I strongly DO NOT Recommend! I had such a hope with this rental company, Kyte, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. These people will steal your money just because they have access to you credit card number. I reserved it through Expedia and I chose the pick up time at 10:30am, but they have it where you must get their app to be able to get the car. This information isn't given to you until you've already paid on Expedia. Wait, it gets worse... If you don't reconfirm the time again on their app, where they force you to pay $300 deposit, they will automatically change the pick up hour. Let's not forget, their app is so glitchy, you can't even use the chat window without freezing 100 times. Finally did everything they asked of me with me wasting so much of my time dealing. I only rented the car for a day. Then three days later, the charged my card $17.95 for a $9.00 NYC Congestion fee. I explained clarification, and they said they charged me this: Congestion $9 + Cash cost 50% surcharge=$13.50 + Admin fee 33% $12.50 with a total of $17.95. So, for a congestion fee of $9 they charge you $17.95, which is them stealing money from your card. When you get the invoice, this isn't explained. Only when you chat to customer service. This is not transparency at all! This is ridiculous! Needles to say, I won't ever use them again. read more

Scam scam! I booked a car through Priceline. Their app cannot verify my NY driver license (HD photo)due to tech problems . Booking was canceled for no reason the night before trip. No refund for rental and insurance received and got an additional $300 charge. read more

The car was very nice. Pick up and delivery on time. The problem is that I did not see the contract and rent the car for 6 weeks. The last week kyte ask me to switch the car as service was needed. I was 9 hours drive away. I read the contract and say that kyte has the right to ask to switch the car and if you did not do you would be charge with felony. This was very distressing. Long way to switch car. And wish I could read the contract prior. The maintenance was not due before 1000 miles. read more

Writing after my first rental with Kyte. Car was clear and in good shape, but a very, very basic model even though I opted for the mid range. Still, better than the condition of many Zipcars. It was considerably cheaper as well, but I think this is because it's new and the pricing probably won't last. I'm not sold on having a human drop off and pick up from you - it's not necessary and not really easier in a market like NYC where tons of car rentals have either street or garage parking pick up spots within walking distance of you where ever you are. One annoyance is when you return from your trip you have to just wait until your Surfer arrives to get the keys from you in person - instead of just leaving the vehicle forever like you do with Zipcar, GetAround, Turo etc. I happened to get back an hour early, and you can't change your trip end time within two hours of what you stated, since a human-being is commuting to meet you. So I had to just hang around instead of getting on with my day so I could meet a person near my apartment in an hour. My advice to renters: refill the gas tank yourself. I decided not to this time, as it's marketed in a very chill way as if it's no big deal for them to do it at the regular rates. It's also presented as a *plus* since many other car rentals ask that you return gas levels in the way you received it or get charged a high fee for them to do it. They charged me $5.25/gal (when it was $3.42) and sent a text implying that was the price in Brooklyn today (it was not). So I feel their gas approach is very misleading. I will try it again definitely, especially because they are promoting a subscription model where you can easily rent a car for a month at a time. It's a bit more than the cost of leasing a car, but dramatically less than if you were to rent from other other apps for 30 days. I think it could be a good option for the right circumstance. Overall, good for them for trying to disrupt the short term rental industry, and we'll have to see how they respond and adapt to market specific criticisms. read more

This was my second time using Kyte (NYC), and I had another seamless experience. Both times the surfer arrived on-time if not early, handoff took less than 5 minutes. Both cars I got (Nissan Altima and Toyota Corolla) were nearly new, clean, and worked perfectly for both trips (around 4 days each). Kyte sends lots of texts with updates or confirmations of toll payments, so communication is great. I also love the option to extend the drop off time for no extra fee (before a certain time). Both times drop-off was seamless, just hand over the keys. All in all, seems like a great service with the best prices I've seen. read more
