There aren't many authentic Japanese restaurants in the area, so it's nice to have another option. This place literally just opened on Sunday 20 July. Chicken karaage was really good. It was crispy, juicy, tasty & not greasy at all, though there was one bit of gristle. It was served with a good egg onion creamy sauce. Honmaguro sushi was a good mix of tuna parts, of really good quality. The green onion in the maki was nice, though the seaweed was not crisp (that's minor). Wagyu steak don had high quality meat with nice marbling & fat content; they use A5 Miyazaki Japanese Wagyu beef. It was plain on its own but is served with truffle salt & onsen egg. The truffle salt was very fine grained, so dipping made the beef too salty - sprinkling gave better results. The onsen egg dipping sauce was good. The don came in a nice lacquerware box too. Both sushi & wagyu were served with real wasabi, which was nice. We tried some of the white fish sushi, which was good too.

We arrived here on a weeknight one hour before they closed and it was packed. The server was really friendly and offered us better seating when it freed up. That said, food took a while to arrive, we waited about 20-30min. The menu items were on the pricier side but for the quality of the food it was worth it. We were also surprised there was a tempura poached egg in the tendon which was new to us and so good. A great small and cozy Japanese restaurant option in Aurora.

I thought it's kind of family restaurant which I have been looking for a long long time. Service staff is friendly but inexperience. Starting from the time we entered the restaurant, she should not offer two of us to sit at a 4-person table. They are full house after opening for 45 minutes. We ordered green tea and there's no hot water. they are not have everything ready before they open. I think they'd better to hire waitress with experience. The lady carried the same dish back and forth, she seemed quite lost and not sure what she's doing. There's a chiwamushi in the combo. We asked for a spoon and the lady gave us a big spoon! We ordered premium sushi combo, sanma sushimi (whole fish) and karaage. I had a whole fish and would like to go with a bowl of rice or make it a combo. However the server did not ask ... and I just passed it. The karaage was juicy but the batter was not as good as others comment. Having said that, they made nanban sauce which's out of my expectation The presentation of the premium sushi is nice. The Sanma sashimi is good. They are supposed to have free ice cream. I heard the other table asking for this and the server told them there is no ice cream tonight. Perhaps they can prepare some candies if they are running out of ice cream. I may not come in the next few months. Hope their service can be improved. It's kind of far to come from Scarborough.

The food was good and service was also good! It's a small space with parking at the back or on the street. I had salmon combo which came with soup, salad, and chawamushi. Love having chawanmushi and it's hard to find on menus that aren't an omakase.

Opted for their premium set ($50) each which is what my friends raved about and can say it's a solid 4.

Just loving the atmosphere here…read more As for the food, don't expect it to be a "traditional Izakaya" here, but that's not a bad thing. They do the "traditional" dishes with a twist / fusion. For example, the black cod is usually feel heavy with the miso based sauce, but they added some acidity to the sauce and they made the black cod taste rich and light (not to mention the black cod was perfectly cooked); traditionally the Brussels Sprouts would be finished by tossing balsamic vinegar over it. Sometimes that would still feel heavy. Instead, they tossed it with strawberry vinaigrette. So the acidity is very light and not too sweet. We finished our meal with the Yokai Signature Maki. Yes, they SHOULD be proud of this Maki enough to put their name on it. They hit it on the nail with the taste profile. I have a zero tolerance with spiciness, so they put the spicy mayo on the side, and I encouraged my wife to dip the Maki with it. She confirmed my suspicion that the spicy mayo took the maki to another level. We definitely will come to try other dishes. Edit: they comped us a slice of Matcha Cheesecake. While it is still not my cup of tea, but I was very impressed with how good it taste. My "dislike" is with cheesecakes because they feel heavy. Though it is still on the heavy side for me, but as soon as I spoon in a bit of the strawberry sauce, it just lightened up the whole thing. They have successfully amazed me with how well they play with taste.

So i was a bit skeptical. But I'm glad I take the risk cuz it was good! And I've tried quite a few sushi takeout during these covid months. We ordered the 42 pcs maki platter. It comes with 6 California, 10 red dragon, 10 caterpillar, 10 dynamite, and 6 spicy salmon. With tax and fees it comes to about $60. (If not doordash maybe closer to $50). The size of the rolls are big and the ingredients are fresh. And I'm so surprised that the rice actually tastes vinegary! This is rare for Maki takeout platter! Tho it is a tad bit too sour, if they can reduce the vinegar by a little it would have been perfect. And their rolls are not drenched with sauce yet each ingredient is so flavorful. I really enjoy the caterpillar roll, it has grilled eel inside it was so good. I think overall it is a very reasonable price and the Maki quality is good. It was also relatively quick so we didn't wait long until the food arrives at our door step.

Firstly, I love the fact they give you a choice to choose between 5 or 9 pieces for their specialty rolls. I'm the kinda gal that loves variety but can't afford the luxury with rolls as they are often times too filling. At sushi blue, I can have my variety of rolls and eat it too! The second thing that differentiated sushi blue from other Japanese restaurants were their prices. I was amazed how much cheaper they were than some of the neighborhood sushi restaurants but let me assure you, the taste was just as good. For example, my black dragon roll would average $17 else where, but it was only $13 here. The texture of the rice can be a bit better but the quality of the ingredients was on par with my other favourite sushi restaurants. We will for sure order from sushi blue again!

Ambiance was cute and the tables were a great size to do some damage. Let me explain to you that a smaller all you can eat menu is way smarter as the restaurant can then focus on quality rather than quantity. A lot of other places don't have fresh fish and rice. The other thing I loved as that this place had smaller rolls. I can't stand when there are huge rolls that you can barely fit your mouth around. It's more impressive to pack a lot of flavour in one small bite. I would say focus more on the rolls and nigiri and sashimi rather than the hot appetizers. They were still good but just not as good as the rolls. The chicken karrage could have been a little more crispy. Stand outs include: -Miso soup (it just tasted better than ones I've had and really hit the spot) -All nigiri and the torched sushi -Snow White Roll and the Feza roll -All sashimi -Takoyaki -ALL of the desserts We also split a sake flight which was so good as well. Great service and everything was soo satisfying. Just go and tell your friends. The one bad thing I would say is now I'm craving it again. I wanna go again..and again..and again.

Here's why: PROS: Location - off a main road, easy to find, parking is free Menu options - Good selection of items Taste & Presentation of food - Very good... food was tasty (with the exception of the Pad Thai in my opinion) and the seafood was fresh. Portions were good too. Service - Very attentive, quick and professional staff; conversation toward the end made them even better! Value - Price for all you can eat was very reasonable, worth it if you ask me! CONS: Ambiance - Floor was slippery (literally the entire floor surface, as though it had buildup of substance, it was odd.). Also the seating and general look of the place is quite old & outdated. IN SUMMARY: Overall ambiance is a factor in deciding on a restaurant, but is more important to me for a special occasion or on date night. When I dine out, taste, service and value are what mean the most to me. As for this restaurant, I would for sure go back! It's a great little local spot. As I upload the pics I'm also getting hungry again and that's always a good sign!!!
