Wow. I hate leaving bad reviews for small businesses but please do not come here. I mentioned I wanted to leave my eyebrows as thick as possible and as soon as I sat down, without brushing my eyebrows or shaping at all she applied wax and I left with one eyebrow looking like a Nike swoosh and the other also looking terrible. The other reviews are obviously incentivized please do not come here. Also completely quiet and eerie you can only hear the tech breathing in a hot and uncomfortable room. I went to see Mary for a refill on my lash extensions after being told she had 10 years of experience. I was willing to overlook the condition of the room and salon bed. It didn't look very sanitary, but maybe it was. I was willing to overlook the communication barrier due to English being her second language, which resulted in her coming across somewhat rude to me during our very brief conversation. I figured it was just miscommunication. I was even willing to overlook a misleading description of the pricing on their website. What I expected to be a reasonably priced volume refill ended up costing much more than I anticipated. My lashes looked great when she was finished, and the retention was good. However, when I later went back to my regular lash artist, she asked if I had trimmed some of my extensions because several looked blunt. I told her I had not. She explained that it looked as if some of the extensions had been trimmed instead of being properly removed and replaced. I then texted KZ Lashes to ask about this, and they replied, confirming that Mary had trimmed some of the extensions because she didn't want to remove some of the outgrown extensions. My regular lash artist told me that trimming extensions instead of removing and replacing them is considered an unprofessional shortcut that can put natural lashes at risk and lead to other complications. I also found information online that was consistent with that explanation. If the health of your natural lashes is important to you, I would not recommend this lash artist. The fact that some of my extensions were trimmed instead of properly removed and replaced--and that this was never discussed with me beforehand--is a significant concern to me. It also makes me question what other shortcuts may have been taken during the appointment. Edit to add: I recently received another text from KZ Lashes, so I will add my reply here. Online consensus among certified lash educators, experienced technicians, as well as my own regular lash artist with well over a decade of experience, strongly condemn cutting or trimming extensions while they are on a client's eyes. The justification that it is for "lash health" is widely viewed by industry experts as an excuse for cutting corners to save time. Regarding the claim that trimming reduces leverage and weight on the natural lash: Cutting the tip of a lash extension does not change the weight of the base or the adhesive bond that is already too far out. When an extension grows out, it becomes top-heavy and starts to twist or lean, which causes stress on the natural root. Shaving a millimeter off the top does not fix a structurally unstable, outgrown base. Regarding the claim that "forcing it off by pulling places unnecessary tension": Professionals do not "force or pull" extensions off. They use the "banana peel" method, which uses two pairs of tweezers to gently pop the base apart without pulling the natural root. If an extension is genuinely bonded too tightly to remove with tweezers, a micro-brush with a tiny amount of target gel/cream remover can dissolve that single bond in 60 seconds without affecting the rest of the eye. Regarding the claim that it is considered "one of the healthiest methods during regular refills": This is completely false. Standard professional training across all major lash academies dictates that all outgrown extensions must be completely removed during a fill and replaced with a new extension at the base of the lash line. Leaving an outgrown, chopped extension on your eye causes a chaotic, messy appearance as it continues to grow out. These claims are an attempt to normalize an improper technique. In conclusion, lash extensions are manufactured with fine, tapered tips to look natural. Cutting them leaves a flat, blunt, square edge that looks chunky and synthetic. A blunt, cut edge is stiff and sharp. As your eye moves or you blink, those sharp edges can poke your eyelids or the client's skin. Using scissors inches away from a client's eyelid means a high probability of accidentally snipping the tips of your real, natural lashes. The bottom line seems to be that such an improper technique is used primarily to save the technician time and maximize profit. I also want to add that after posting this review, KZ Lashes texted me and offered a $30 refund on the condition that I remove this review. While their text messages sound professional, offering money to hide an honest customer experience is review manipulation. read more
