Nashville has definitely stepped up the nightlife scene. LA Jackson sits on top of the four star upscale, Thompson Hotel. It is a trendy rooftop bar and lounge with a beautiful view and relaxing ambience. A group of us went on a Friday night at 7:00 to celebrate a friend's birthday and it was packed. They offer bar, indoor, and patio seating. 90 mins. later we were able to grab a table on the open seating patio. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks underneath the clear sky. The drinks are pricey but strong. The catfish chips were hit. Feel like dancing? There is a small dance floor in front of the DJ booth. He played 90s hip hop, pop, and R&B music. We had a great time and will definitely return. Our server recommended that we try brunch as he mentioned that food and mimosas/drinks are just as good but with less of a crowd. After nine be prepared to possibly be waitlisted to receive a token to the rooftop. Patrons must be 21 and up. There is a Premier Parking lot across from Bar Louie but make sure your time doesn't expire or you will get a $65 ticket. read more

It's called L.A. Jackson for a reason guys. Coming from L.A. this scene is very typical of what you'd find from a trendy hotspot: beautiful patrons, upscale environment, central bar to ogle and people-watch your heart out, and a sweeping view of Nashville's downtown skyline. We arrived at 11:30pm on a Friday night, no line, no wait for the elevator so we went right up to the rooftop. The security guard was friendly and we got in without any issues (so NOT L.A. lol) The space is separated by 2 main areas: Inside: perimeter lounge areas (first come, first served), round bar, and a teeny tiny dance floor. Outside: cafeteria-style tables, lounge seating, heat lamps, and a central lighted tree that sets the mood for a wild night out. $17 for a whisky on the rocks. $3 cheaper than L.A. standards, score!! (Just moved to Nashville after 15 years in NYC.... remember this while I write my review) LA Jackson is one of my favorite rooftops of all time. The space is complete with two bars--- one indoor and one outside. The views are panoramic and there is even a tree with warm, inviting light that sits outside. Have been here before pre-covid and really enjoyed it. Wanted to visit again, but this time I was disappointed. First, the frose is advertised on their menu as $13 (expensive, but I get it) and I was charged $16. Second, it's so small! Definitely not worth $16. Rather go to Hampton Social. Next, the music while it's still sunlight is so loud. More of a clubby vibe than expected for before dinner drinks. It's a very early to mid 20s kind of place. My wife and I were attending the U2 concert at the Bridgestone on Saturday night so we wanted something that had a big vibe to start out our night. There are a ton of rooftop hotel bars in Nashville but this one seemed like our jam since we like all of the Thompson Hotels. We were able to grab a seat at the bar and you could immediately feel a pretty good atmosphere with the music and the crowd. Things were hopping and the outside was really buzzing. My wife ordered the Frozen Rose' and she said immediately that this was what a drink like this should be like in terms of flavor and consistency. I went with their 4 Cellars Chardonnay which was a fine option as well. We did some preliminary research before we arrived so we knew that we wanted to try the Catfish Chips. Love them! I am not a Catfish person but these were great and the spicy aoli was a perfect compliment for dipping. We also ordered the Hummus but there was too much going on with it. I think you can overdo toppings on Hummus and it then just washes out the dish. The last thing we ordered were the Fried Artichoke Hearts. They were pretty good although a bit oily. We would come back here because it really has a good overall feel, the bartenders were cool and the food did the job. read more

Our server, May, ruined this experience for us. Three of us ordered entrees at our table of four people. When our plates came out, the food runners brought out an additional burger which we did not order. We let them know and they gladly took it back. About five minutes later, our server comes back with the burger insisting that we ordered it as she tried to put the burger back on the table. She was incredibly rude after we repeatedly said the fourth person did not order a burger. Lovely rooftop bar... the bar doesn't offer reservations but we are glad to have grabbed a seat as soon as we walked in around 5pm, the day before NYE. The drinks were complex and had the right strength. We were most impressed by the food. The burger alone was worth the visit and the shrimp toast was a must have. Came in Wednesday evening, not so many people. Great view outside! A fantastic place for celebration. The drinks are great! Food is amazing! We ordered Korean fried chicken burger, garlic fries, meatballs. We also got some brussel sprouts from downstairs restaurant, yes, you can have a downstairs restaurant menu but it just takes a little bit longer. The garlic fires need to be more garlic-ish but other than that everything else is so good. When it became dark, all the skyline shows up and the view is even prettier! read more

The scene to been seen. I am all about rooftop bars and skylines, and LA Jackson has both. I have been here a few times both solo and with friends. I definitely rec coming with your friends since this is more a great place to chill and people watch. It can get busy, but if you are flying solo - it offers a great opportunity to breathe in the brief Nashville skyline that makes up our downtown and midtown area. I'd say there is a mix of local and tourists who frequent it. I like that people remain 'vibed' here and it seems less about the bachelor/bachelorette parties and more about the mood of the place. The demographic definitely feels more business casual earlier in the evening and then it turns up. Aging varies mainly mid-20's to mid-40's. I haven't noticed a ton of younger 20 something's here which probably why I like it more. It offers an open air patio along with a decent inside. Both fill up fast on the weekends. Plus, you can rent out a section if you wish to host an event here. I don't know the cost of it, but it is there for your offering. The rooftop bar is in a hotel. Drinks are always good. I liked that they can make you basically anything and they aren't stingy on the alcohol within the drinks. My most recent visit prohibited me from drinking due to being on antibiotics. That didn't limit me to turning it up. I still had a blast. But, the bartenders make me some really reasonably priced mocktails that actually helped my throat feel better. Drinks are a bit steep, but with no cover charge and the ambiance - you're paying for your experience through the booze. At the very least, they taste amazing and have quality versus crap you'd get downtown on Broadway for the same price. LA Jackson is a lot classier than that. The DJ (varying people) always has good tunes spinning. I have never complained about the music here. People will get up and dance for fun more than for seriousness. It isn't a club so do not really expect club dancing. It is more chill and vibing as said before. You will never hear me complain about early 2000's throwbacks. I think what draws me to this place most is that it reminds me of something more metropolitan than Nashville. I moved here from DC. Even though I am from Tennessee, I much more prefer bigger city living than Nashville aspires to have. Yeah, Nashville is transient and growing, but it is still a big small town with lots people. Just for a little bit of time when at LA Jackson, you feel like you've escaped that big small town and feel more like you're back in DC again. I appreciate that feeling and gives me reason to return time and time again. LA Jackson isn't for everyone. Some people might see it as a bit too uppity or out of their range for Nashville. For me, it hits the spot. I love it here and I love that it gives me reason to get dressed up and hit the town. I wish more rooftop bars could only try to be half as awesome as this place. read more

Ask for light ice or you will spend about $14 for ice. Not big cubes of ice either but a tall skinny glass filled to the rim with small round ice pebbles. Did I mention that it was filled to the rim with it? Our small group was a mixed group, Asian and black males and females. We noticed waiters and waitresses greeting parties and getting their orders while We came in and ended up walking inside the bar to order our drinks. It wouldn't be a big deal but it was a Friday afternoon and the rooftop wasn't crazy busy or crowded. A group of women came in and sat down in front of us and not too long after a waitress came over and took their drink orders, had a conversation with them, laughing, talking, giggling, and even took their group picture while they were sitting at the table. This place is ok, wasn't bad but wasn't good. I really wanted to love this place but I don't. For a more diverse group of people, I would recommend skipping LA Jackson. There are so many Instagram and social media worthy rooftop bars in Nashville too so its not like your missing out. read more

This rooftop is everything you could want out of a trendy date night/girls night out spot! My mom, sister, and I came here during a girls trip on a Friday evening, and while the rooftop was certainly busy, it had just the right amount of activity to keep it fun. There are waiters and waitresses who were taking orders, but we found it was quicker to make our way to the bar to order. Surprisingly, drink prices were pretty reasonable (or at least on par with other comparable higher-end bars). Two glasses of rosé and a craft beer cost about $35-$40, so definitely not cheap but not unreasonable, either. Regardless of drink prices, the view alone is what makes this spot worth it. You can see the entire Nashville downtown skyline while the sun sets, and it's a perfect spot for some instagram action :) I can say with confidence that I'll definitely be back, whether for a pre-dinner cocktail or a drink to wind the evening down. The review is limited to the bar as I didn't go for dinner. And, I suppose I'll caveat that I went last week (early January) when the weather was freezing cold so we couldn't enjoy the outdoor space. The drinks were fine. I got a whiskey/rum drink whose name I don't recall but it was good. Was it good enough to justify the price, probably not but in my mind you're buying the atmosphere and, especially in the summer, you're buying the rooftop. I'd be willing to go back, but only for that summer rooftop - could definitely see hanging out on a Saturday afternoon or a perfect Friday happy hour. read more

Went to LA Jackson a few weeks ago for a nice cocktail and views of the city with my girlfriend. Overall it was a good experience and what you would expect from a place like this. It has a club like vibe, I would call it "snooty" rather than "upscale". Lots of young people drinking expensive cocktails wearing expensive clothes. Feels like it should belong in NYC rather than Nashville. Nothing wrong with this vibe at all, it's fun to be a part of this crowd, but it is certainly not a relaxed or intimate atmosphere (if you're looking for that, I'd suggest the bar on the roof of the JW). The cocktails were good and priced right. A Woodford Manhattan was around $17, which is pretty much on point, especially given that they make it big and strong. Ordering from the outside bar took a while, most people congregate on the roof and they all try to order from the outside bar. I'd recommend just going to the inside bar for a drink - there are less people here so they will be much faster. The views are awesome. 180 degrees of the Nashville skyline. Two stars for the food. It was pretty good. Lack of stars for the service given by our server and lack of management presence to check in on guests. Regarding the server, we politely asked for his recommendations on the menu. He was snub, arrogant and unknowledgeable. The food runner was more personable and engaging than him for a mere 30 seconds when she brought out our orders with a smile. He wasn't welcoming or friendly at all and it was my friend's birthday. Once we received our order it was wrong, but my friend and I just began to dig in anyway. When we made him aware, and instead of making a good and courteous judgment call, he asked if we wanted a re-do... umm... we're already eating so it didn't make sense to stop eating just to wait another 30 minutes for another 'try again' order. It was my friend's birthday so offering a desert or something else would've suited a correction for hismistake more...or even something else comparable.
