Hidden in a basement of the Maddox Hotel this is a real gem of Nashville's nightlife. Changing themes four times a year and having to close down during those periods, the bar is otherwise open the all the remaining days of the year. The staff are incredible and the cocktails are cool. There is a feeling of a private club to the whole spot, but also having a very fun vibe. It's elegant and dark, it's unique and alluring. When I visited, the entire place was transformed into a "A Christmas Story" fever dream--in the best possible way. Think leg lamps glowing proudly like "a major award," and pink bunny‑suit energy tucked into corners. Speaking of drinks: fantastic. Creative, balanced, and themed with the best call backs. I really love coming to this speakeasy hidden bar. They always change the theme and it's always worth checking out for sure. The service is always welcoming and friendly. On weekdays doesn't get too packed but weekends can be a hit or miss but you can usually get a place to sit. Haven't tried much if their food so can't really say too much on that. I had read about the Hidden Bar upon researching speakeasies in Nashville. Hidden Bar is undoubtedly one that lives up to its name. A hidden speakeasy nestled underneath Printers Alley of downtown Nashville, Hidden Bar is one you need to do your due diligence to know where to go to locate. But if you're able to connect the dots, you will enter another universe, enjoying exquisite and tasty cocktails that will allow you to live your best life. To find the Hidden Bar, you need to find yourself... or just locate Lona on Church Street and head down the stairs. You have to see, not just look, and find a door that typically leads only to storage. And from there, you will be whisked away into another dimension -- dark, hidden, and mysterious. Through another door, you enter the glorious crimson lights of the Hidden Bar, where cool Euro dance music fills the air as mixologists craft and serve excellent cocktails with precision. There is this large chandelier with a crazy 3D effect. I loved the style of the shelving that helped radiate the aura of French Nouveau Dreams and disco machines. Taking a read of the menu that was created with a newspaper-like design, I enjoyed cocktails such as the Last Word, the Fairy Cream, and the gorgeous Nia's Car. I enjoyed the Fairy Cream the most, which tastes like a Russian Quaalude, only with absinthe and a focus on using dark and light crème de cacao. The Last Word had more anise-forward flavors with the green Chartreuse but was cut with the sweetness of the maraschino liqueur. The Nia's Car was a complete left turn from the first two drinks, and the one I finished the evening with. Comprising Brandy and Sorel, with cranberry juice, agave, rhubarb, and orange bitters, your palate went on quite the journey that is also balanced with the hibiscus sugar rim. The mixologist behind the bar made magic with the drinks. I would return in a heartbeat, especially if he were slinging. It is impressive how they have designed this bar. Once you figure out how to get there, whether you sit at the bar or grab a darkened nook around the back, you will enjoy the vibes and subdued energy of the bar that will make you lose track of time as you sip drink after drink. read more

Came for the Halloween event - so fun! I love a good Speakeasy and Hidden Bar did a great job - from the hidden entry to the fun decor and themed drinks! We loved it all! So the first night I would've said 5 stars for drinks, service, and ambiance. The Halloween decor is next level, and their menu is amazing. First night we loved the drinks made by the woman bartender! We had the pale one and nocturnal, and they were nice and gave us free all hallows dram shots because we came back to make sure we closed out (they didn't take our card or info when we ordered). So we were thrilled by our first experience so went back the next night. This time, the man made our drinks and threw it together. Tasted terrible, so we left them behind. Such a fun speakeasy! We went for their vampire themed pop up and it did not disappoint. Everyone was dressed so on theme and the drinks were unique. We came here for the Beetlejuice pop up bar. I love that they change out the themes of this speakeasy. It was a little interesting to find, but we asked around and then were able to locate it. We didn't have to wait too long, about 30 minutes to get in. It's right outside the Makeready L&L, so you can enjoy that bar while you are waiting. Don't try to run off with their themed glassware, or you'll end up with a heft $100 fee. Apparently that happened within the first week of opening. They have a couple snack options, but I didn't see many people ordering anything other than drinks. read more

As a MASSIVE Christmas Story fan, when I first got wind of Ralphie's Christmas, I made it my mission to get in that little green door before Hidden Bar transformed into something else. After a handful of attempts where wait times were pushing 2 hours, we got a 50 minute wait on a recent Thursday night. We checked in, bellied up to the bar at MakeReady and waited until we got to party in the Chop Suey Palace with a few of the Bumpuses dogs! Pretty close to on the noise, our text message came through and we made our way to the check-in table where they stamped our hands for reentry and directed us in. Upon entry you are immediately greeted with the famous "fra-gi-le" leg lamp in the vestibule, and then you turn the corner and the bar opens up for you. The space is tight, so them only letting a certain number of people in is certainly smart for enjoyment, and I am sure, fire safety purposes. Even with monitored entry, many folks have to stand. As mentioned, Christmas Story is my all time favorite holiday movie, so seeing all the things made me unbelievably happy! Red Ryder BB guns, Chop Suey signs, the pink bunny outfit, Santa and his Elves, the Bumpuses dogs and even a couple of tables set up as Ralphie and Randy's beds! It was a cool place to hang out for a few cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, they had 8 themed cocktails including a Triple Dog Dare, Drink Your Ovaltine, Fra-Gee-Lay and of course the You'll Shout Your Eye Out! As you can imagine, I had to try a few and started with the Drink Your Ovaltine. After I finished that off, I went with the You'll Shout Your Eye Out as I wanted something a tad less cream forward. Unfortunately for me, the You'll Shout Your Eye Out was not that, as they added banana cream and banana chips to the cocktail at the end, neither of which were mentioned on the menu. I am a trooper, so I pushed through, but would have been nice to know the entire details of the cocktail. The same goes with the Ho-Ho-Ho, which turned out to be a hot cocktail, again, not listed or shared upon ordering. The cocktails were tasty, just not what was expected. They do have a tiny food menu featuring Crispy Duck Fried Rice, Lo Mein and Egg Rolls, and even a dessert called OHH FUUUUUDGE. We did not partake in the food, but other did look to be enjoying. Service was solid from entry to exit. The check-in staff were friendly and welcoming, and the bartenders inside were energetic, helpful and friendly as well. Overall, cool theme that brought back all the memories for me! I cannot wait for the yearly 24 hour marathon of A Christmas Story in mere weeks! read more

Came here on a Wednesday night, probably our first mistake. There wasn't much going on and it looked pretty dead. We were staying in the hotel and decided to check the place out. It's a very large space with lots of seating areas and a large bar. Music was ok, what bothered me was the large bright chandelier. It took away from the speakeasy ambience. Ok first off.... LOVE!!!! If you are a true Christmas Vacation fan, the little decorations and details in this place will give you so much serotonin. I came here last year and it was Home Alone themed, which was also fantastic. I would not recommend staying here as an all night type of thing, but coming for a cocktail or two is a fantastic idea.
