The owner came out personally and fixed my door within the day I reached out. I will be a repeat customer and recommend you guys work with them. Negative reviews are inevitable in the service industry, think about how many jobs they have completed in their 30 years of business and then recognize that they only have 22 reviews. After a terrible experience with a fraudulent garage company, the owner of LA Overhead, Sam, personally came out, assessed the situation, and offered me several alternative solutions. I was able to schedule the installation immediately. The installation team was highly skilled, pleasant, and professional. They installed an excellent new system, walked me through the app connection, and made sure I was completely comfortable with everything before they left. I've seen some negative reviews here, but based on my experience, I find those reviews questionable. Sam is straightforward, doesn't waste time, and his sense of humor is hysterical. They came to my house 2X to repair the garage doors. First the price was outrageous and second it was dramatically higher than they estimated - call it bait and switch when you need your door fixed. The owners are very difficult to deal with and very aggressive - high pressure. Now my garage doors are broken again so after all of the head aches I'm back to the drawing board. My husband and I had just woken up and he starts in trying to upsell us a fancy new system with a camera and an app for almost two grand. I researched the product and costs about $150.00. Garage Door Not Opening June 30, 2023 My L. A. Overhead Door wasn't opening. This unit was purchased from them in 2008. Since then I had only one issue and that problem was quickly resolved many years ago when a sensor was replaced. I called them today and Amber took me through the process of resetting the system. He spent a total of 5 minutes inspecting my garage door, told me there was no solution and informed me that he would be sending a bill for just coming out as he rushed off. We gave a 1500 deposit and our door mechanics were installed backwards so the door came down on my brand new Mercedes!!!!!!! They NEVERRRRRR came to fix the door and after hounding them for a month we eventually had to pay another company to come to it! After 4 years he takes us to court accusing us of fabricating the photo of the door on my car! Forgetting that his installer actually came to the house and saw it real time. Also forgetting that he himself came to the house and said he would fix the door himself which never happened!!! Then he accuses us of trying to just get a free door?!?! We were the ones trying to get it resolved and a working door for over a month! ... at court I said a fair solution is to pay the actual cost of the door since we still have it. One star because the woman on the phone was helpful and kind. Plus an extra star for coming on time when they said they would, but what an unpleasant experience. The man who I assume is the owner has a helper drive him to the site, then they try to upsell you pointing out all the things that are about to break. When you don't buy the upsell he gets all huffy and doesn't want to complete the job to the best of their ability. Then he charges more than the office quoted for the work. I paid without arguing because I wanted him off my property asap. I would never use them again. I'm heartbroken to write this. L.A. Overhead installed our automatic system a few years ago and I was very pleased with the work and the price (the actual door was installed by someone else). When I was unable to open the door more than a few inches 3 weeks ago, they were my automatic go-to choice. Sam came out and told me the springs needed to be replaced and that they'd have to order the parts. I understood that the price being quoted was $695. He also said that because of California Law they would have to replace the automatic motor mechanism (which was only a few years old and was working perfectly) because automatic garage doors were now required to have back-up batteries in case of a power failure, and that he could do the whole thing (springs, new motor, battery) for around $2,000. I explained that this was not something we were in a position financially to do at the moment, so he agreed to simply replace the springs. About a week later, I got a call from the office to schedule the repairs. They were supposed to come between 2 and 4 on 9/15. They showed up around 4:30 due to traffic, and accomplished the repair in less than an hour. I was told they'd invoice me. After they left, I noticed that the door was making a groaning sound when it went up. I called the office and was told someone would call me back. It took 4 phone calls to get scheduled for someone to come out --- I was given the excuse by the office that they were "really busy" (NOTE to office staffs at service businesses -- NEVER say that to customers, especially long-time customers who are experiencing a problem with work you've just done; it only aggravates us further). Finally I got on the schedule for this morning from 7-9 a.m. At 6:25 a.m., they called and said they were at our house. I had literally just gotten out of bed. I met them at the garage, they told me that the noise was normal (funny, it never made the noise before the repair) and asked if I could write them a check (they still hadn't sent me an invoice). I said no because my checkbook was upstairs with my sleeping husband and that I hadn't yet gotten an invoice. Sam had the invoice in his car, so he handed it to me. It was for $1,420! I told that I thought it was supposed to be around $695 and he claimed that I had misunderstood -- that amount was just for the motor. It was not yet light, I was freezing and had not yet had my coffee, so I just paid it via Zelle. Later this morning, I read the invoice carefully and discovered I had in fact been charged for the initial diagnostic service call (which I'd been told would not happen if I decided to use them for the work) and that I had been charged $575 for the labor and $295 each for the 2 springs as well. I called the office about the initial service call charge and was told that that was because they opened the door for me (not sure how you would diagnose a problem without opening the door....). The office seemed disinclined to refund the charge, but I was transferred to Sam, who did agree to send me a check, which was the right thing to do and I do give them credit for that (although not for charging it in the first place). That made me decide to do a little digging, so I went on Yelp and saw all these reviews :( It made me wonder if I had been seriously over-charged and I'm certainly glad I didn't have the motor replaced!!!! As I said at the outset, I'm heartbroken because this is a company I have used several times before and always felt I'd been well-treated in the past, but I'm likely to look elsewhere in the future. read more

Sadly, I made the mistake of calling LA Overhead Garage Door several years back - they have a storefront located in my neighborhood. Wanting to support local business, I asked them to come out for an inspection and estimate of our broken opener. They told me the unit was not powerful enough to support the weight of our custom door. As a result, the motor burned out. I paid them to replace the opener. Things were fine, however, their sales/estimator (Sam) is pushy and rude (and sexist toward women). Always trying to up-sell and dismissed me with a wave of the hand when I told him I need to chat with my husband about anything extra. Flash forward to last week, I noticed one of the springs was broken. Called them to come out and give me an estimate. I was told it would be approx. $175-250 for the coil, plus $125 for the service visit. They came back a few days later and installed 1 new coil (to replace the one broken coil). Or so I thought. I received the invoice in the mail two days later - they charged me for the replacement of 2 springs even though I only needed one. Additionally, without quoting me, they charge me for another item I wasn't told needed replacing, and $375 for labor (40 minutes of work for 2 men). Our total invoice is $935. No way on earth are we paying for this egregious and false invoice. We have been taken advantage of and will not be paying the amount we were charged. The guy who came out was extremely rude and abrupt. Also condescending. He told me the entire thing needed to be replaced at a cost of $1700. This team of Nate, Rafael, Amber, Jose's go above and beyond and especially during Covid when parts are hard to access and they are all working beyond. This business doesn't advertise whatsoever and they are all word of mouth. I was recommended this company by a very experienced contractor as well as others who are starting in the trade that are friends. I had the most amazing experience even with the slight hiccups but the communication was great and Nate takes pride in his business and personally addressed any of my concerns/issues and even the compliments. Both Jose's who installed were neat, friendly and did an exceptional job. I wish they did exterior doors and fencing/concrete as I wouldn't think twice doubt hiring them again. I did my research on other companies and this fair, honest, clean and my all glass garage door and Lift Master are just beautiful. Everyone has complimented the door and thanked me personally for increasing the value of our neighborhood!! Thank you Nate, Jose, Jose, Rafael, Amber and anyone else I missed. This company is really Mesa Garage Doors, which we found out later. We requested a SERVICE call, but days later after 1.5 hour wait, they sent a SALESMAN, who nicely told me that our door could be fixed for under $300. The entire top panel needed replacement. He was supposed to give this information to the service department and we have never heard from them again, although I've tried several times to reach them over the past 3 days. The next serviceman, from Pro Service Garage, came that morning, looked at the door and agreed it could be fixed for under $300 but the problem would reoccur because the springs are over- driving the door, causing the top panel to bend and preventing the door from opening. The upshot is, we need a new door and this time, I'm dealing with a firm that is recommended by AAA, BBB, etc. I hope it goes well because it's very hard to know who to trust in this business. Last year we paid $800 to Garage Doors for Less who obviously screwed us during an emergency. Had they fixed the door then, I would not be in this position now.
