I am such a dessert girl and I remembered this wonderful bakery. My friend was visiting from the UK and we were exploring Harlem. It was a beautiful day and decided on some sweet treats. First of all, I love the flower decoration of the exterior. The interior is just as cute and cozy. There are a variety of cakes to choose from as well as cookies and pies. We settled on the lemon frosted cake. Upon arriving at home I was eager to eat the cake and it was absolutely perfect and delicious. The lemon flavor wasn't overwhelming, it was moist and fluffy and the filling was excellent. Please forgive the pics. Not my best but we had the cakes in a backpack and it got a little crushed. Its like a child made my cake, no communication and expensive sloppy work. No one is available to speak to you to admit they served me garbage and rectify they're mistakes. I love Make My Cake. I am fortunate to live within walking distance of several bakeries in Harlem, and this is one of my three favorites. I alternate among them on my weekend errands, depending on what kind of desserts I'm in the mood for that week. At Make My Cake, my faves include the coconut pineapple layer cake, strawberry frosted cupcake, sweet potato cheesecake, apple or peach cobbler, key lime pie, and the coconut pecan cookies. I'll buy a cake slice or a cupcake and eat it over the course of 3 or 4 days. They stay fresh so every bite is a delight. Same with the cheesecake and the pie. The cobblers are huge so those last me through the week. And the cookies--I always get one or two on the side :-) The staff is typically local young folks as far as I can tell, who rotate somewhat frequently. It can get quite busy in there and I can see that they are sometimes feeling under pressure, but they maintain professionalism and reliable customer service. And with me, they are always especially kind and patient (could be my grays, signaling my neighborhood Auntie status haha). I love it. Store hours were hard to pin down when they first opened this location, but I think they found their rhythm now. The reason for my 2 star rating was simply because it technically wasn't the cake I ordered but what choice did I have on day of pick up for a party the next day...I placed this cake ordered from June 28th for pick up July 15. I've heard great things about make my cake . I was in contact via email as well as the phone. It was the shape that I wanted however the flowers was suppose to be purple and the inside was suppose to be strawberry. I basically got a plain vanilla cake with pink flowers. I was told that I had put a deposit the day I put my order in which was no problem. Leaving a balance of 87 dollars and was told that it would be extra because I wanted purple again no problem. It was for my mom's 65th birthday and purple is her favorite color. When i was told my balance was 95 i was shocked because that wasnt what i told over the phone. The 95 dollars wasnt the problem if i had gotten exactly what i wanted. As you can see nothing but pink all over and when the cake was cut not a taste of strawberry no where. It was basically a vanilla cake. I didn't make a fuss at the store because the head baker had an attitude. I left disappointed because it wasn't what I ordered and I didn't have a choice again cause the party was the next day. Overall my mom was happy and she enjoyed her cake but I was just disappointed because it wasn't what I ordered. What was the point of giving specific if they did what they wanted anyway.
