Mom passed away 11 years ago, but the tradition to celebrate her birthday lives on, always with Valencia cake.
    Ivie P.

I grew up eating Valencia cake. It was the ONLY cake we buy, whether for birthdays, baptism, graduation, getting a new job, bridal shower, weddings, baby shower, even divorces. Valencia cake was part of the family tradition to celebrate. In 2021, I bought a Valencia cake at Burnside Ave in the Bronx since the one I used to go to at Jerome Ave was closed (was still the height of Covid pandemic) . I quickly noticed the texture was dry and hard, the flavor was off. It was a fiasco. Overall, it tasted old and stale. I was disgusted and threw it away after 1 bite. I heard owners changed and so did their recipe. I read and heard from others many bad reviews, I never wanted to buy another Valencia cake ever again. 3 years later, even though my mom passed away 11 years ago, my brother, sister and I still celebrate her birthday. We went to East 103rd St known as El Barrio, also known as Spanish Harlem to buy a cake from the Valencia Bakery. I had such an awful experience 3 years ago, but my brother insisted we buy from El Barrio. We halted the birthday tradition for 4 years (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) due to Covid. We took the cake out of the box, you can see how moist it was by the pineapple filling drip at the bottom. A blessing to my mom, and we ate the cake. It was exactly as the cake I grew up with. Pineapple filling was delicious, the cake texture was soft and flavorful, the frosting that only Valencia has that technique was on point. I came to the conclusion in El Barrio, you don't mess around with Valencia cake that has decades of tradition. If East 103rd ever sell that dry, stale cake I brought in the Bronx, customers, especially Puerto Ricans will not forgive and blast out in anger and hardcore protest over disrespecting that cake that has a life of it own. Not sure if the main bakery facility went back to their original technique after customers complained, but glad, this location still receive the cake from the main bakery warehouse that's made old school... that's expected.

Today was my first visit to Valencia Bakery. I was doing some investigating for my friends that have three children. Someone is always having a birthday. Plus I felt like having a slice of cake to taste test later. It's my impression that Valencia Bakery specializes in cakes for children. There's no adult themes here. I was really impressed by the huge selection. The man behind the counter was very helpful. The rules are posted so you shouldn't have any doubt about what you are committing to here. I'm really impressed that they take EBT. That's Electronic Benefits, they used to be called Food Stamps in my day. I'm glad I gathered the information. I'm going to have the slice of cake. You can buy a slice for taste testing. I think it's a good idea before I recommend my friends commit to a whole cake!

I got a cake from here that was described to me as a Vanilla cake, but I think it was the Vanilla tres leches cake. Overall, I would say the cake is average. Not the best out of this world cake and not the worst cake as well. Employees at the bakery are super friendly and are happy and cheerful when I walked in to get my order. The top couple layers of the cake tasted fine, but the bottom layer had a chemical-ish taste. After cutting a couple slices of the cake, I also realized there was an additional layer of styrofoam on the bottom (eg. Cardboard holding cake - Styrofoam layer - then actual cake; see pictures). This came as a surprise to me and caught me a little off guard. Not sure if this contributed to the chemical taste or not. I may come back and hopefully have a chance to try their pastries and other goods as well. For now, I am all caked out.

I visited store on 4/9/24 evening to pick up cake. Same night after dinner, I was about to remove the plastic around the cake to serve it to my kids and noticed the mold. I picked up additional items as well but will not be eating anything.

Ordered a birthday cake from here and this is a chocolate cake with chocolate chip custard filling. (Side note: chocolate cakes you need to order in advance). Deliveries can be made for a fee and they give a time frame of delivery. Cake filling was sparse and could have used more between the layers. Altogether the cake was good and it was enjoyed.

Dont bother. This used to be a great bakery with quality baked goods. Somewhere in the past year or 2that changed. Spend $30 on a birthday cake. (The only plus was she under charged me my cake should have been $50 but with the job she did on the cake it wasnt worth $5. I don't know if they sold the place or what happened but whoever owns this location now is giving Valencia bakery a bad name. Photo below of the actual cake given to me. They are lucky I wasn't the one who picked it up because the chick who did the writing on it would have been wearing the damn cake if I was

Growing up Valencia cake was the staple for all birthday celebrations, a few weddings, and baby showers too. Everyone over 30 that grew up in Williamsburg knew of Valencia Bakery. However, our home location closed in the late 80's early 90's there were a few others scattered throughout the boroughs & when you attended a milestone event and Valencia cake was being served you, Knew you were in for a treat. Our family usually purchased the Pineapple cake, or the vanilla cream. While visiting family in Spanish Harlem, I stumbled upon this location and was super excited to have a nostalgic slice of Pineapple cake. I decided to have the three milk cake instead, because I never tried a Valencia version of three milk cake. It was very moist and good. This location is more of a store front, very tiny but still a one stop shop. The slice of cake was $4 the entire cake are still reasonably price, half cakes are $11.00 small entire cake is about $20 & up depending on size which is not bad at all. The Valencia name brings back great memories.

The orange has a base made of chocolate Rice Krispies. All of them have more fruity filling than the mousse. They are very fragile. I recommend eating there if you can. Finding can be a challenge because it's busy and there aren't many seats. I got mine to go just to be taken to the park across the street . The mushroom kind are totally ruined. There was no place to sit down because of how busy it was but the staff kept the line moving quick enough. The place still seemed reasonably stocked with their desserts and treats, despite the late afternoon time that I arrived. I ordered 4 different treats to go and they're packed in small box individually. Unfortunately, they didn't quite stay intact during my trek back to my hotel and were tumbled around in the boxes. Nonetheless, the taste and flavors held up well and even after a few days in the fridge. The yuzu daisy has this vivid pastel yellow-pink base and adorable gelatinous yellow gem atop a white flower. The yuzu gives a subtle infusion of tart that is balanced out by the light delicate skin texture of the rest. Sitting atop a thin round rice crispy. I loved the red mushroom one which is a creamy pink mousse inside the cap. The stalk is a thin porcelain-white chocolate light base also filled with a rich cream. Adjacent are two cute little tree nuts. The orange and mango have such vivid colors and are aesthetically pleasing too. Just like the previous ones, their delicate chocolate exterior houses a rich tarty mousse-y filling. I think the mushroom has a better balance and variety of flavors. Although I don't eat mousse treats often, I look forward to trying some of the other ones in the future, like the blueberry, banana and cloud.

Today I decided to make a special trip to go here to grab a few goodies. I forgot how small the place was and how low the ceilings were. That wasn't an issue though. The place was nice and cakes were stacked neatly. What was surprising to me is that they don't have any cookies laid in the front display. It's all placed in the back almost hidden. I was deeply disappointed with their cookie selection. It was deeply surprising that they don't sell the butter cookies that had jam in the middle and dipped with chocolate on one side with sprinkles. I did ask the clerk and even showed him a pic of what I was looking for and he said they never sold them. They only had the linzer cookies and they didn't look so good. They also did not have the lobster tail. They did have the sfogliatelle which they also called a lobster tail. I thought they were not the same? Some bakeries sell both and they are definitely not the same. I did end up buying one of their sfogliatelle with cream and some rugelachs. The sfogliatelle was good but the rugelachs tasted slightly underbaked. It did taste fresh though unlike many I've had in other bakeries. However, for $28 per pound, I wouldn't get it again. For those not having lobster tail and not having the Italian cookies, I will have to give Veniero's a low rating. I never thought an Italian bakery would not carry staples. Very disappointed. I need to find another Italian bakery now.
