08/27/20 - Yikes Ive dealt w/L & L Appliances longer then I care to admit, but I have never been to this location. They have 3 different stores. One is on 3240 W Lawerence Ave Ave which is where I've bought 95% of the appliances I've bought from L & L over the years. The second store was @ 4250 W Montrose (this is basically a storage yard) and the third one that I went to today for the first time is @ 2553 W North Ave. they are nothing fancy just inexpensive functional appliances. L & L Appliances has a large assortment of different used appliances for personal & commercial use. I use to own 3 buildings so I needed to buy used appliances like refrigerators & stoves for the tenants & an occasional coin operated washer & dryer for a fraction of buying something brand new. They are a second hand refurbished appliance stores. I have an upright freezer in the basement of my house that isn't working properly so I called L & L Appliances to see if they might have something to fit my needs wo/having to buy a brand new freezer. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just functional to fit within given dimensions in an alcove in my basement. I called one of my contacts at L & L only to be refered to another person. I texted information to my new contact on what I was looking for and the search began. I touched base about once a week just to let him know I was still looking. Well persistence pays off as there are other people that were also looking for a utilitarian freezer, nothing fancy just functional to fit the designed space. I received a photo of the freezer that was available. It is a little smaller both in height & depth then the one I have now but we can live with it. I looked at it today at the North Ave location bought is and have delivery set up for tomorrow afternoon. L & L Appliances has 3 stores, but all 3 are currently closed due to Covid (no walk ins wo/an appointment. 2 out of 3 of my contacts are either deceased or retired. I set up a time w/Chuck the last of the Mohicans to meet him and see the freezer in question. I have dealt w/them for years. Sure they're not brand new and for my purposes they didn't have to be top of the line manufacturers, but I fear they're a dying breed as Father Time is catching up w/the owners of L & L. I have literally saved thousands of dollars over the years buying used appliances from L & L and will continue ur to as long as the need arises or until they close up shop. L &L has a number of shops around Chicago but is mostly found on the north side of the city. Their satellite shops including this are just storefronts containing different selections of stock. All are run by the same owner and staff. Unfortunately due to the pandemic they have since lost some employees due to a variety of circumstances. That aside, they are now running out of their North ave shop and if you aren't satisfied with the stock here, you can request to see stock at their other locations. It is because they are low on hired help that their other locations are not open. I was recently in this shop and only after purchase, an employee mentioned I could have seen stock at a different location.... Thanks for telling me after the fact! ***For anyone unfamiliar with this shop. They are a used resell shop. The buy experience will be nothing close to buying from Sears, Home Depot or other. For some, entering can feel out-of-the-norm and you may feel like.. oh hell no! These shops are not well maintained. All their monies are spent on offering the best of used equipment. So, when buying, ask them to clean it well and fumigate, if necessary. What they are and offer. Cut rate, most often used appliances and equipment. All merchandise is sold as is and if they offer a warranty, it'll have a short span. Something like 30 or 90 days. Most of the time that kind of short warranty may do because once it is tested, if it fails, call them immediately. More than often, they will send out a technician to try to troubleshoot and repair. If there is still a problem, they would exchange or you could add a little more and upgrade. If you plan to shop with them, do some research first! Visit a big box store or look online. Get a feel for appliance pricing and what new features to look out for. Many people that own rentals usually buy from L & L. It's fun/funny to see how others barter. Prior to the pandemic there was some leeway to play with. Now, they aren't trying that hard to please. Expect to use cash, so come prepared. Also, take the time to look around. If you don't care for a specific look, they could choose on your behalf based on your spend. I have done this in the past with limited success. IMO, it is always best to choose on your own. In essence, kick the tires. Or in this case, open the doors, flip a switch, turn some knobs and handles. Oh yeah, if it is a stove or appliance with removable parts. Open it and ensure those are OEM parts. Not aftermarket substitutions. Remove them and place them back in looking to make sure those pieces properly fit. After an appliance is delivered and installed, it will ruin your day to find out some of the accessories are not in working order. Last but not least, they offer delivery for a cost. For the longest time they have been singing the same story. We have to blah blah blah. Every shop has to pay their employees, but to force customers into additional fees can be utter BS. In the end those charges could take away any advantages you saved by purchasing used. So, if you have the means to pickup and deliver. That could save you some monies. read more

it doesn't even deserve one star! they said the stove worked fine. all they had to do was clean it up. when the stove was delivered parts were missing and the stove didn't work. wasted half a day waiting for their repairman to come out and fix it. i will never go there again. i would not believe anything these people say! read more

Leaving my beautiful front-loading washer and dryer behind when I moved was tough. I decided to be frugal and buy a used set, and I got a stacked washer/dryer for $550 at L & L. They delivered it on time. It was scratched, dented, had some lint inside. But it worked fine for some 4 months. Then the dryer set on fire. Entire 2nd floor was filled with black smoke so thick I could not even see, fortunately I acted fast and put it out with a fire extinguisher, burning my hand in the process as the handle had melted off, and then the fire dept came as neighbors saw smoke billowing out of the windows. My load of laundry was incinerated and now it permanently reeks of burnt polyester in here. So I will be back to L & L soon this week to buy a new set!!! This time I will buy a better quality dryer and be very careful using it, lest my house burn down. read more

I can't speak of the other locations, but the North Ave location rocked. Chuck, one of the owners, was helpful, and respectful.....I gave him my wish list, which was essentially, "i want a higher end gas range/stove, for $300ish"...after he was done laughing, he actually met my wish list. It was delivered that same evening, hooked up, old one taken away, and I made my Thanksgiving side dishes in my new oven....Happy Happy Happy. Understand, whatever you might buy there has most likely been Frankensteined together.....nothing wrong with that......so if you're looking for the brand new, no dings, perfect thing....go to Abt. If you're looking for something that meets a lower budget, but works.....and works well.....this place is great. Word to the wise, if you go in there acting like a Jerk, you won't have such a great experience.....if you go in there looking for a decent quality appliance, at a great price, and treat the folks there with the respect they're due....you're going to have a great experience. I was referred to here by a contractor buddy. Know what you're looking for in advance and have a dollar range in mind by checking online first. I bought a brand new Kenmore Elite H/E Front Loader Washing Machine with a few scratches and dings. It was brand new with a warranty and I paid about 40% less than new. My contractor buddy bought a subzero stainless fridge for 60% less than a appliance place was selling it for. They specialize in scratch and dents so be aware. It's a very rough block in Humboldt Park and it's like walking into Fort Knox. I grabbed a guy from A/A next door and he helped me deliver it. I would go back, no doubt. I live around the corner from this place and watching last week out of curiosity. I couldn't believe it when I walk through the door. This place has all the high-end manufacturers. Viking Thermador Jenn-Air Sub-Zero Plus KitchenAid GE Whirlpool Maytag you name it. A lot of his stuff he carries is brand new. His prices are amazing. You can get new 4 less than half the price you pay at places like Home Depot Sears and Lowe's. I think it's one of the best kept secrets in the area. The guy that owns it has been at that location for over 40 years. If nothing else we can tell you how the area has evolved over the years. I been buying stuff at L and L for about 10 years now and I have decided to never use them again. It seems each year they get worse and their appliances never work and it can take weeks sometime to get a repair guy over. Most recently I bought a washer and dryer set and they dryer that they brought over did not work on day one. They said they were going to bring over a repair guy for a most recently purchase dryer and I waited over a week for him to show up. In addition, I bought two refrigerators over the years and both had cock roaches. The first time I thought maybe it was a flute so I made the mistake and bought another one a couple years later and the second one had roaches as well. I spend more money paying terminex then I did buying the refrigerators. Never again will they get my business. read more

Bought W&D at L&L and had them install. They are not working, man on repair line suggested we disconnect the dryer exhaust to see if our line is clogged or if the dryer is the issue. This sounds reasonable, but in attempting that test, I notice a faint smell of gas. The old-fashioned soap-bubble check shows the gas line is leaking where it connects to the dryer! When they installed it they left a leak, did not check it! Moreover, the exhaust line connection is DUCT TAPED and snaked around nearly in a figure 8. This is a fire hazard and not acceptable under any code. I will amend this review with an update on how L&L handles it, but right now I am appalled at their shoddy installation and carelessness with basic safety rules. 1st update: I received a phone call within 3 minutes of sending the repair number a link to the gas leak video. They said someone will try to come before noon tomorrow. read more

Stay away from L&L Appliance Mart! I will never give them my business again. I was sold a coin operated washer/dryer set for which I can't find parts anymore because it's over 25-years-old. I didn't realize how old the set was until I had it serviced by another company. L&L sold me the set for $600. These hunks of worthless metal aren't worth $25 at the scrap yard. When I first bought my house I couldn't afford all new appliances, and someone recommended L&L as another option. I was able to fully outfit my kitchen and get a stackable washer and dryer all for under $1200! Some of the appliances had dents, or were used, but on the whole I was very happy to be able to set up my new home with affordable options. That was 12 years ago. I've had to replace some of the appliances over the years, but all of them lasted at least 8 years, and L&L came out to repair my dryer twice at very reasonable rates. I'm just now replacing the dishwasher! Given the fact that brand new, "high end" appliances I've purchased haven't lasted as long or performed as reliably, I have zero regrets about using L&L, and I'm planning to go back for my next dishwasher! read more

I am a property manager and have used L&L several times after being referred by a fellow property manager - they are a lifesaver! Whenever I need to replace an appliance (and I have now used them for ranges, dishwashers, washer/dryer, and refrigerator) they always have it in stock and available for delivery within days. Words cannot express how Happy I am with the service I received at L&L Appliance Mart. I had the unfortunate luck of needing to purchase a new washer & dryer set recently. I was panicked because it was right after the holidays and I did not have a lot of money for this. A friend referred me to this store and I was able to purchase a great Frontloading washer and dryer set for a fraction of what I expected to spend. I'm a mother of three and the washer and dryer are constantly being used and they run great!! I have already told all my friends and family about this place! In fact, my sister purchased a complete stainless steel kitchen set and it is beautiful. She is also VERY happy about her purchase and the service she received. My father owns a building and purchased Coin Operated washer/dryer set from the Lawrence location. He is also very pleased. I am surprised by all the negative reviews I have read about this store. My experience was great. I would refer anyone looking to purchase appliances. I'm sure glad I didn't read the reviews first, or I may not have gone there. They are the best! If you own a building and havent used them well you're spending way too much on apt unit appliances! We just bought a new (floor model most likely) whirlpool side by side for $600 before taxes and when i looked it up to print out a manuel it is being sold for $1799 from sears. I also bought $2800 worth ( 2 stackables-GE elite)for only $800 they are brand new with one or two scraches for which i bought a white-out sized bottle of paint from the mgf to match the color and it's perfect. The Story of the owner is awesome- he is classic Chicago-if your from here you know what i mean! so back off lol-respect them and they will respect you!- anyhow,it is a second generation business where his dad started the business and passed it on to him and they work hard. they have been great to me for the past 10 years and look forward to doing business with them for many to come. p.s. dont wait "buy before you need" said a wise landlord i met years ago.Keep the units in the basement because going there last min will only allow a selection that came in that day/week- which the same unit you looked at today is usually sold by the next day...they move that much inventory! we go in once or twice a month when we know they are open to peruse the current inventory.
