Let's set the record straight.... I used them and they were good. There's a recurring theme with a couple of the other reviews, which is that they believe the repair person wasn't very nice. Ok, I agree to that! He wasn't really rude, but he wasn't cheerful either. Personally, I'm not sure that I care. Rarely do I hire someone to come into my home to do work unless it's something I can't fix myself. If you're not an appliance repair person, you call a professional that knows what they are doing. If you think you know better than they do.....do the work yourself. I'm not hiring someone so that we can talk and be friends. So, yeah he wasn't really talkative. When he got started I was standing near him asking questions. It took him less than 5 minutes to take all of the outer shell / cover off the machine and make a diagnosis and give me a quote. Once he did, he straightforwardly said to me that he has 9 appointments today and he needs me to not be near him so he could concentrate and do the work. If you can't respect that, than you must be really bored sitting around your house. Let him get in and get out so everyone can go on with their day. Here's what I liked: Immediately he knew my specific appliance and the normal problems it has. He made a diagnosis and quote in 5 minutes. I thought it was going to take a lot longer than that. The whole job was finished in less than an hour.... maybe 40 minutes at most. The entire job was less than $250. It's probably a $1,500 dryer, so $250 actually seemed cheap to me. I thought it would have been much more than that. As far as him looking you I'm the eye when he talks to you:. He did look me in the eye and I believe he has a glass eye ball....so that might be a good reason he's not looking you in the eye. If he has 9 appointments for the day, he is doing something right. I caught Lou red handed trying to rip me off. RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM THIS PLACE! He tried telling me it needed a part for $358. I have a video and a statement from a 2nd appliance company and this fan works just fine. Fridge coolant leaks which was the real problem (2nd appliance company told me) and would cost more to repair than replace. I guess the $99 fee to come out and access wasn't enough. He is dishonest and was going to rip me off for hundreds of dollars for a part that works just fine and the fridge would have needed replacement! Try Mikes appliance in Libertyville. He was really honest and nice and felt so bad, only charged me $50 to come out. He was the honest one that showed me the fan worked just fine and what the real problem was. read more

He was able to repair my refrigerator, oven and was honest in giving me several options for an irreparable washing machine. Water started coming out of our ice maker today, so we called our home warranty but they said no one was available to help until Monday night. We were extremely upset because all of our food was going to spoil by the time they would come. Stay away from this business and they're a big scam. Lou was able to diagnose and repair the problem but in the process have damage the power button on my Maytag dryer. Worst part is he's denying it. He insist that it was broken in the first place before he got there. I called their main office but they won't listen to my complaint and i was told that Lou have worked there for so many years and he haven't done anything to taint the company. Little that i know that Lou was the President or the owner of the company. This company is an absolute scam, and I'm not sure if they really have skills to repair stuff. Owner showed up at my home, bitched about the snow before he even got in the door. He was in a huge rush, likely to take my money and run, and apparently knew the problem with my dryer without even investigating - he even pretended to care as he was leaving. He didn't listen to me, slapped a sticker on my dryer (which I've since removed), and cleaned the lint out of the vent, didn't even test to make sure that was the issue - had no problem charging me $89 for that. I came home late one evening to find my kitchen floor covered in water. Turned out to be a hole I the ice maker hose. I called Area Appliance the next morning and talked to Lou. He came to my house that afternoon, promptly at 1:00, explained the problem, what I had to do and didn't even charge me! He came back a week later, exactly at the appointed time, and cleaned the coils and vents (which were very dirty from two dogs) and the fridge now runs like a top! Called Area Appliance and spoke to Lou. Set the appointment and he came out on a Saturday! Of course dryers always break down on a weekend when you do laundry. Diagnosed the problem within 5 minutes, fixed the belt and the dryer runs like new. It only took him 15 minutes so he said. "NO CHARGE. Catch me next time." He said " I appreciate loyal customers" People just don't do business this way anymore. Everyone is out for himself. I called ABT and they wanted $179.00 just to come out! I have used Area Appliance in the past to fix my fridge and dishwasher. This is a person that appreciates your business and does an excellent job. Called this morning at 8:00 for a dryer issue (dryer wouldn't dry). They were willing to schedule me right away, but due to my own schedule conflict, had to push the appointment to 11:00 today. The repairman showed up right on time and got to work. He knew within minutes what the issues were and fixed them all. 45 minutes later, he was out the door on his way and the dryer works just fine. I have had many different service companies come out to service my house. We had a technician (Lou) come out to our house yesterday to fix our dryer. He was extremely pleasant to speak to. He fixed our dryer in an extremely short time for less than half the price of several other quotes we have gotten. We finally have our dryer back to working like when it was new. I called this company because their service would repair my dishwasher the next day, rather than waiting for Abt for a few days. The good news is that they did do the repair, for a few dollars less than Abt. However, the service person had an attitude. Complained about how did I break it? Said, "Why didn't you call Abt? They would have been cheaper". Complained about the lighting. Would never look me in the eye when talking to me. He went out and took the carriage in the truck to put new rollers on. I saw it was raining outside, and went to get my garbage can to the side of the house while he was working. I accidentally "brushed" his van (in my driveway) with the plastic can. There was a "dirt smudge" (no scratch of any kind), and he was going to call the Glenview Police to file a police report. he threatened this 3 different times. Then when it was time to pay him, he didn't like the look of my check. Anyway, it's fixed, he's paid, his truck is fine. Then I called the owner to complain, and he might as well have been the driver/repairman. More of the same. He asked me if I recorded the conversations! No support. So I told him what I am telling you all now: I should have taken the repairman's advice in the first place, and called ABT. We had a dryer issue where the gas dryer wouldn't dry. The repairman showed up and was nice enough. I explained to him what was going on. He completed an assessment and explained to me that we needed to replace our igniter, door latch switch, and he replaced a couple of other parts that were "worn out" as well. This totaled $ 238.00. I would have been thrilled if the problem had been resolved. But it had not. After he left I tried drying some clothes but the basic problem had yet to be resolved. So I called back and he came back out. I explained to him what was happening and he essentially told me that I was wrong. He then ran the cycle through multiple times and you could hear the igniter clicking. Which would have been great if gas would come out of the nozzle to ignite, which it wasn't. He made the argument that it was "working fine" and left. He didn't charge me anything more --thank goodness, but I didn't have any confidence he was going to fix the problem I went online, found a site that explained what the problem probably was (basically there are two parts that could cause the problem of gas not coming out of the nozzle). I bought the parts myself and made the repair myself. While I like to tinker at times, when I hire someone to repair something, I want it to work better when they leave than when they arrive. And I should not have to then fix it myself. The repairman was nice enough, and maybe he was having a bad day or something, but I would not hire this company again to repair anything of mine. read more

Called this guy with intermittent dryer starting problem. Ad on Net says $49.00 plus 20% off coupon. Ok. I call and he's there in time enough, but when he walks in, he pushes the start dryer button, it starts, I tell him, most times it doesn't. He immediatly says - "it's the motor". OK...."250.00" Ok, is that it? "well, if it needs a fan, $300.00, but I don't stock them". (this after telling me on the phone he has $900,000.00 of parts in stock!) I ask what else can go wrong, then? He just shrugs, and sits there with pen in hand ready to write it. No explainations, no discussion. Just pay. I decide I don't like the whole thing. I tell him I'm begging off, and go upstairs to pay his $49.00. THEN he tells me it's $79.00! it's a $30.00 labor charge! Yep, to push a button. Unreal. And the 20% coupon is only for work performed - apparently not for work simply charged for. And the whole time he was curt and cold as ice. This is the kind of outfit that keeps the whole sterotype of home rip-off-racket true to form. No wonder nobody wants to fix anything anymore. With people like this, it's just too painful. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! At the time scheduled an appointment (admittedly on the weekend) the company stated they would arrive between 7:00 am to 8:00 am on Monday. This worked for me because it allowed me to get to work on time. When I called Monday morning to confirm I was told the appointment would be between 7:00 am to 9:00 am - a big difference for someone who has to get to work. Okay so the technician comes in with an attitude the size of Alaska. I had a problem with a leaking water line from the water line on the freezer/refrigerator. He quoted me an extremely high quote but maybe this was fair as I am writing this without the benefit of another quote. The big problem came when the technician looked at the Weber grill. I was having problem with a whishing sound when the gas was turned on. The technician tightened the connections and said the problem was solved. I wanted to test it and tried to turn the gas on but the connector was too tight for me to turn. I told the technician I could not turn the gas on and he sharply replied that he could not loosen it as that would be against the law. I have no idea what law there is that tightens a connector so tight the consumer can not use the grill. The technician basically ran out of the house and left me with a grill I can not use. Okay so I figure I will just replace this propane tank. When I went to remove the propane tank that connector was also to tight. So here I am stuck and unable to do anything about it. I call the company and say I can not use the propane and I can not exchange the tank because the connector is to tight. The company said oh we can come out in a week but only if someone is at home. So to use the grill I must take a day off work. I am calling another company to loosen the connectors. Area Appliance was rude, unhelpful, and I will never use them again. BE WARNED. This is a company that mislead me on the schedule, that left me in a worse condition than I was in before they came and they will not stand by their work. I just experienced truly great customer service......so good I had to give this company a compliment on yelp. I own a 31 year old Maytag washer that broke down. Lou was out the very next day and said we should try to keep it....they just don't make them that way anymore. Upon completing his inspection Lou discovered that my old Maytag would not be fixable at a reasonable cost. Here are some of the things I am most grateful for: He explained he could get the machine running by replacing belts, but the greater problem would occur again within a few months. He COULD have "fixed" it for me, taken the money and waited for the NEXT time it broke down. Instead he explained what is so good about that machine, and helped me identify what I should look for in a new one. He was on time, even called to let me know he was on his way, he was courteous, friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Really a very good experience and I appreciate it very much. Looks like a common theme. Lou the serviceman came out to my house. Looked at the dryer for 2 minutes. Then went out to his truck and came back to say it is too expensive to fix.
