I will never step foot here again. Found Loic via IG and it turned out to be a big regret. Showed up to my appt ahead of schedule and he was 15 mins late. After sitting down, I specifically told him I do not like blunt cuts and asked him to give me whispy ends with face framing layers. It turned out to be the quickest haircut I ever received and mind you I have very long hair. After the cut I noticed immediately that it was blunt which I mentioned to him but he insisted that I go home first and try to style it myself and if I'm still unhappy to come back. On top of the blunt cut, I got bangs that I never asked for????! How is that face framing??? It's like he never listened to me and just did his cookie cutter haircut that he does on every girl. Honestly I haven't been this annoyed over a hair cut in a long time especially after spending $300. This guy relies a lot on social media for business and when I told him I'm not an influencer, it's like I didn't matter?? He thinks very highly of himself and that he's better than other stylists from other reputable salons. This is based on our convo btw. I had such an amazing experience!! I came for a consultation before my actual color process. Hussein was attentive and extremely knowledgeable. He listened to my concerns and made me feel comfortable in the color we were going to do. The space itself is beautiful. It has a great location and a nice view onto 5th Avenue. Even though it looks like it will be a bit snooty when you walk in, it is so low key and relaxing. There aren't 5 million people running around, so you are able to not be frantic while getting your hair done. This review is for Dina and Laura, who recently started at L'Appartement. I did a single process color with Laura, who is always amazing. She has been doing my color for about a year and always listens to what I want and makes suggestions based on that. I wanted to go back to my natural color, and the color she mixed came out amazing. Dina has been cutting my hair for about 5 years, and she is amazing. The salon is beautiful. I felt like I was getting my hair done at Blair Waldorf's apartment. The staff is very professional, friendly, and very attentive without being overbearing. I went in for highlights, and Nora did a fantastic job at creating depth and dimension in my over-processed blackish reddish thick, coarse asian hair. The color is subtle, but I wanted it lighter so I knocked off a star. It's also about twice the cost of most other salons, so keep that in mind. P.S. They have the best coffee here. I have been going to the salon since it opened. My review is based on the current Covid environment. I was so happy when the salon reopened. I was like so many others excited to get my hair colored by Christy and cut by Mika. Unfortunately I can't say that the salons Covid protocol is ideal. I have been there when the owner doesn't wear a mask as well as clients don't wear masks. The good thing is I don't have to go back there because Christy and Mika are in a new place that adheres and practices the CDC guidelines Mane Salon in Chelsea. We can control the virus if we all wake up every morning and do the right thing and think about others. I'm disappointed that the owners of this salon didn't care enough to protect their employees and clients. read more

Madison and Tina, at L'Appartement, are hands down the best color and cut team in NYC. I am able to explain exactly the look I want, and they listen! And they still are able to explain how the style will/won't work with my hair (without talking down to me) and figure out a way to get the look I am going for. In the past, I have been pressured in to going for a style that I didn't particularly because of pressure and attitude from a stylist. With Madison and Tina, I am absolutely glowing every time I leave the salon, and normally I am SUPER DISAPPOINTED AND UNDERWHELMED and I have gone to the best. I have sent several friends their way with the same history, and they ALL feel that way. Madison's color is absolutely on point, not to mention I can trust her to go for the tones and placement that work best for my coloring/time of year. I don't even tell her what I want anymore I'll show her a few pics and let her work her magic. Tina understands her clients and each time she has given me a SUBSTANTIAL haircut (I'm the girl that has hair down past my back) and left me HAPPY to have gotten rid of the weight. & Her "sexy dent" is the best blowout in the city, and this is coming from a girl who would prefer to let her hair dry then get a blowout after a treatment. I most recently did Tina's "Hair Botox" and it has SAVED my hair. Air dries in half the time, and remains soft even through the 3rd day, where before it would feel like horse hair. I was just there a month or so ago and I am trying to justify getting something done, because I always leave feeling my best self. Not to mention, they are absolutely LOVELY, super knowledgeable and well connected to their clients. For those who are curious and in the same boat- here's a bit of history. When it comes to self care, I am happy to shell out a bit more $ for quality service and products. But I really hate to go to super well known & expensive salons and stylists, only to be given no attention and sub par treatments, all the while being charged an arm and a leg and served a nasty attitude. Ive always left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed and totally ripped off. I have naturally "good" hair, so leaving a salon happy with the results shouldn't be that difficult. Most recently, I had been seeing Nunzio and Stephanie from Nunzio Saviano - I liked Nunzios haircut (mild term for a $300+ cut), but I was treated as if I was beneath his other clients and my appointment would span hours after the salon would squeeze these women in between my color cut and blowout (by an assistant), despite being a regular customer every 3 months! and the color was mediocre at best. You shouldn't feel that way when your spending a weeks paycheck on a hair appointment. Sad to say I had a horrible experience here. I'm in the service industry and would never write a bad review unless it was justified. I came to this salon after being with my old hairstylist for 9 years (balayage addict)- I was just looking for a change. After discussing with the stylist what I wanted, the color looked nothing like the picture I showed her. She tried to correct the color by adding a clarifier. The color came out ok but after one wash I noticed my hair started turning an actual PINK. I went back to the salon for correction- they blamed the pink hair on ''the water in my building'' (my hair has never turned pink before after years of coloring fyi). Multiple glosses later my hair still looked terrible and was severely damaged. FYI my hair turned pink again. I called the salon asking for a refund for just my color since they clearly couldn't get it right and they said no. Moral of the story- worst 700 dollars I have ever spent on my hair. Never again. Now my hair is severely damaged- I will be chopping it off and returning to my original hair stylist for color. read more

I really wish I could give a 5 star review for this place but something was just off. I purchased a GIlt City deal for a haircut and blow out back in the beginning of June. I think the price was still around $90- still kind of expensive for my budget but I figured why not? I called on Tuesday to make my appointment for that Friday. The receptionist told me I would be with a stylist called Alex. I was pretty excited about this because I read his bio on their webpage and he sounded really great. I arrived for my appointment about 15 minutes early. As the elevator doors opened I saw a beautiful chandelier and a beautiful desk, but there was no one sitting there. I stood there for a few minutes when finally a male with glasses came up to the desk (I didn't get his name) I told him my name and what I was there for. He was searching in the computer for a really long time, not saying anything...awkward silence followed. I thought they had lost my appointment or something. FInally he said "the receptionist will be up in a minute" Oh ok... I thought he was the receptionist but whatever. Then he offered me something to drink. I wasn't sure if they had wine or champagne (it being such a fancy place and all) so I asked what my choices were. His reply was "Whatever I can find." Huh??? Rude..party of one! I opted for water. (no alcohol here) Finally the "real" receptionist came to the desk. She seemed really frazzled and also took a really long time finding my appointment. I was eventually given a cape and sat at a beautiful desk. Another client arrived just after I sat down and was seated next to me. There seemed to be some confusion as to who our stylists were going to be. The shampoo-er (I think her name was Georgia) finally brought me my water. I'm not exaggerating but after that 4 different people came up to us and offered us drinks within a 3 minute time span. The other client and I looked at each other after the third time and giggled...I already had water and how many times can we politely decline? A nice gesture but overkill. After about 10 minutes I was taken over to have my consultation. Georgia (the shampoo-er) asked me questions about my hair and was a little weird about what products I told her that I used (Aveda and other not cheap stuff) She told me not to use them and that my hair is not oily (Huh? I think I know my hair type.. sorry) A stylist called Shana came over to do my consult (what happened to Alex?) I didn't say anything about being told I would have Alex because she was very nice and I didn't want to seem too picky. Maybe they assign less senior stylists for GIlt City deals? I was then taken for my shampoo which felt amazing. I'm not sure why this happened but a lady came up to me and said "Manicures, manicures...anyone want a manicure?" It was so random and weird and reminded me of the behavior of any run of the mill nail salon- the kind that will try to upsell you. It was so awkward...hello I'm getting my hair shampooed- am I just going to say sure I'll have a manicure and pop over there with my hair dripping? Crazytown! Thank God for Shana my stylist-the only saving grace of this experience. She gave me a great haircut and was very friendly. As she was finishing the rude glasses guy came up to us and said in a very fake way that my hair looked great, It didn't seem genuine at all. I feel like they may be told to come up to clients and do that. Maybe I'm wrong. I went to check out and again no one was there. The owner Tiffany finally came up and said that the receptionist would be right back. What the heck is going on here? Checking out took forever and when the receptionist finally returned she actually apologized for being so scattered. In conclusion: The Good- the place is gorgeous. Everything is brand new and I love the art on the walls of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. The decor is very chic. The location is very posh- just off of 5th Ave. Shana my stylist was great. The Bad- the customer service of pretty much everyone but my stylist Shana. As pretty as the surroundings are they were tarnished by the customer service in here. It was uncomfortable at times. Adorable new salon nestled between the Burberry and (Yves) Saint Laurent stores on 57th. Love the vibe here, it's like being in the apartment of the most chic woman you know, without being cheesy. They just opened in December as a full service hair-salon and I heard they will be adding more spa services as time goes on. Ross is amazing and I would highly recommend him - I've followed him here from his previous salon and it is worth it! He is professional, friendly and creative without being pushy - he always does a fabulous job and I leave his chair feeling like a new woman. Got a cut from him today and already got 3 compliments on my bouncy hair walking back to my office, it doesn't get better than that! I came here super spontaneously to get a trim and a glaze on a Friday afternoon! I was SHOCKED they had room to fit me in!! The place is nice, the service is wonderful and the stylists are so understanding! I can't remember the name of the girl that did my glaze but she was SO sweet and sat with me while I waited for it to stick to my hair.. she really did match my color perfectly and she was such a pleasure to be around! Cut- I was so scared to get my haircut by someone would get scissor friendly and start chopping off my hair. I was so happy to find Mica!!! She listened to what I said - she didnt cut off too much, but just enough that my ends arent all over the place anymore! My hair looks so much healthier and its not shorter! LOVE! Like most of the other reviewers, I found out about this place through a GiltCity deal. (I purchased the single process hair color + blowout deal for $75.) Totally worth it, considering a blowout alone is typically $35-40. So, my colorist decided to give me a "natural ombre" and gave me lowlights... got rid of the uneven tone of my hair since my dye job was growing out. Then, I got my hair washed (super relaxing) and my stylist did her thing... it was my first blowout experience and I now get why women do it. I left the salon feeling very va-va-voom. From the decor to the service, it really was such a treat. Would definitely recommend (and if you happen to see another deal go live, purchase it asap)!! read more

Most people understand why I'm skeptic of trying a new hairstylist but since my girlfriend wanted to get her hair styled for a business reception in lieu of us going to a spa I was on a mission to find someone that would be comfortable styling ethnic, African American relaxed hair. The salon is located on 5th Avenue between Burberry and YSL. Cons - there was a long wait before I could schedule a (same day) telephone appointment. Also, they do not accept tips on a credit card so please bring cash. They are expensive. Pros - we were able to obtain an appointment within 2 hours. The entire staff is very welcoming, friendly and accommodating...in fairness, we were treated like royalty from start to finish. The ambiance and decor is feminine, chic, ultra clean, organized and every girlie girls ultimate salon dream. The products are superb, hair stylists are skilled and Andre is handsome and fun to watch him working his magic. We were both finished with our service within 1.5 hours. I got the balayage highlight of my dreams from Christy at this salon. The blowdry I got from Mie looks amazing even after I had my hair covered in heavy winter jacket hoodie (it's 3 degrees out) and slept on it overnight. Check out the photos! Here is a more detailed review of L'Appartement Hair Boudoir, Location: It's located on 57th St between the the fa$hionable 5th Ave and Madison Ave. 2 minute walk from N/Q/R and 4/5/6. Take in all that high-end de$igner store window $hopping (or actual shopping if you're having a great month at work, just don't be late to your appointment!). After signing in at the front desk of building, take the elevator up to the 7th floor, and voila, you're here. The Salon: As soon as you stepped out of the elevator, you will find yourself in this spacious and super fancy-classy-luxurious salon. There are crystal chandeliers everywhere, gorgeous antique-designed chairs and mirrors, private hair working stations (you will not be seated right next to another client in the room), and of course, completed with the forever-classy Audrey Hepburn pictures and art works. They have this delicous yummy candles lit throughout the whole salon. Oh, and they even go as far as using ACTUAL HAND TOWELS in the restroom, and nicely rolled up, of course. Checking-in: The front desk check-in is friendly, and didn't look at me twice when I gave them my coupon from one of those discount deal websites. They asked me to change into a robe, and then took my drink order after I sat down. Christy, the colorist: I came in half-an-hour early for my appointment, and my colorist Christy was able to see me right away. She introduced herself and greeted me nicely with a hand shake. I showed her a picture of what I wanted, and she told me how much she could realistically lighten to my very dark Asian hair. It was my first time here, so honestly, I got a little nervous because I was afraid the colors would come out too dark (happened before in a previous salon). But I decided to trust her anyway since we won't know for sure until we try, right? Balayage highlight technically uses a "foil-free and painted on" method, but she told me she's concerned the dye might dry out before it can reach the ideal shade for lighteniing my very dark hair, so she asked me if it's okay if she uses the foil. For me, as long as the colors look great, she could wrap bacon around my hair for all I care (I told her okay, and managed to save that last comment just for you, my dear fellow Yelpers). She worked quickly and quietly while I emerged myself in magazines and the current top 40 hits in the background. After she was done putting the color in my hair, I was asked to wait for some 15-20 minutes. She came to check on me once, and told me to wait for another few minutes before Mie, my blowdry stylist, came to fetch me for a rinse. It was a little unsettling that Christy didn't check on my hair one last time right before the rinse, but I kept my benefit of doubt anyway. Mie, shampoo and blowdry: Mie introduced herself, and ask me to follow her to the washing station. She made sure I was comfortable with both of my neck and water temperature. The water pressure was nice and strong, and the temperature stayed nice and consistent throughout (definitely not like your typical NYC apartment shower). After a quick rinse, Christy checked on my hair, and asked Mie to put some toner and glaze on my hair. Mie asked me to wait for 10 minutes, and came back to rinse everything off. After a brief discussion of how I wanted my blowdry (wavy on the bottom, overall volume), Mie started to blowdry my hair. She was friendly, and we had a nice conversion (even though it can be hard to hear each other with the loud blowdryer right next to us). The Result: My hair was styled to perfection by Mie, and the color came out waaaaay better than what I had expected. Christine came to check on it, and told me I can get the result I want from the pictures with future coloring session to layer with my current color. It may not look like the picture 100%, but I thought my hair actually looked better than any of the pictures I showed her in the beginning. Mie's blowdry stayed strong throughout the day (after wearing winter jacket hoodie over it constantly), and even after a night of sleep! Be sure to check out the photos. This salon is a gem! First of all, Ross is the best hairstylist on the planet, and that is the truth. I spent many years trying to find someone who "got" my hair and who gave me the cut that I was after. I sort of stumbled across him by accident as he worked in a salon near me, and my life was forever changed! I actually LOVE my hair. He is talented, professional but fun, and honest. I got a Gilt city coupon here for highlights and overall the experience was good. The location is great, building and entrance were great, the service was great- I was put in a robe and offered a drink when I arrived. The only thing that was not great, was when I was describing what I wanted done with my hair (a touch up on highlights), the stylist asked if I wanted my angles/layers touched up. I said yes, as usually doing angles/layers only takes a few minutes and my usual hairstylist will just throw that in, but the hairstylist (who was great and so friendly and did a wonderful job) ended up giving me a full trim and I was charged $100 for it at the end. I also had some treatment done that is supposed to maintain your highlights or something, but it was was apparently not included in the Gilt deal and ended up costing, I think, around $70-80. Basically everyone did a good job on my hair and the service was good but I went in with a Gilt coupon, for which I paid about $145 and ended up having to pay $189 on top of that, which is basically the full price of the service. If I had known I was going to get charged $100 for a 1 inch trim I definitely would have passed on that. read more

Oh. My. God this place! A bit of context to begin this review. My good friend told me over lunch that she had extensions put in by TIffany (the owner) at this salon a few weeks ago and I kid you not, these were the most extraordinary, luxurious extensions I've ever seen. I mean she looked like she was about to go on tour! And I've been wearing extensions for 15 years so I know of what I speak. The job they did on her was so brilliant, so Oscar red carpet-amazing, that I made an appointment as soon as she told me about L'Appartement. Located in the the nexus of Manhattan's ultra luxury square mile (between Saint Laurent and Burberry), this salon is just beautiful. Beautiful. From the warm welcome at the front desk, to the killer French-inspired decor and furnishings (you feel like you've stumbled into a Vogue fashion editor's appartment in the 8th Arrondissement), the friendly staff and the completely delicious cappucino (!), I was thoroughly impressed. Tiffany herself sat me down and explained the entire process, how she actually put them in, showing me all the different options and really being more of a consultant. She wasn't pushy at all which I certainly appreciated. First of all the hair extensions themselves are sourced in France, from a brand called Great Lengths in Paris and you're not getting better quality. They are the top of the top of the line when it comes to hair extensions. But the hair itself is only half the equation. What really makes this salon stand out is the way they work with it. I had started losing some hair after my pregnancy and Tiffany who is really incredibly knowledgeable about her craft, was able to rebuild my entire hair's volume, density and appearance in a few hours. The extensions and your natural hair are in perfect, seamless harmony and they will then cut and style it however you'd like. They made me look absolutely incredible (the stares from the men AND women on the street when I walked out were all the confirmation I needed!) and it goes without saying that L'Appartement will be my go to salon for extensions/style and cut from now on. I have not a single bad word to say about my experience there. And I recommend it unreservedly. read more

First time to this luxury hair salon, once the elevator door is opened, the interior design is amasing. It does not feel like you are in the salon, you feel like you are walking in to a luxury appartment, just like home. My hair stylist was Andre and he did a wonderful job. I walked in with long hair and I walked out with short hair. I originally had a very long hair down to my waist and I wanted to do sometime different but did not have any idea so I told Andre to decide whatever he thinks it will look good on me and he did, now my hair is short, an inch below my ears and I feel so light, so stylish and so bouncy. I even got couple nice commons on the train from strangers and asked me where did I get my hair done. I got a voucher from Gilt City, $80 for hair cut and blow dry which the original price is around $160 and usually Andre charges around $195 to start for a hair cut. Even if I need to pay for the full price for a cut by Andre which still worth it. He really did a great job and I am planning to go back for my future hair cut. Absolutely worth it, try it out and you will feel what my experience. Request Andre if you can, you will be surprised. read more

The salon is gorgeous, HOWEVER very irresponsible and not very client conscientious at all. I set up an appointment and showed up only to find out that my hair stylist was unreachable and had not been to work for 2 days. I never received a phone call advising me of the problem; it took me over an hour to get to the appt. as I live across the bridge and although I was treated with respect, that is no way to treat clients. I sat around for almost another hour as I was told he may or may not show up. Then I decided to let the owner cut my hair, I did receive an apology and should have never been charged her price instead I should have been charged the customer inconvenience charge (whatever that is). Needless to say, I would never go back as this is no way to do business; I don't care how good you think you are. read more

I get my haircut by Guillaume who just arrived from France. He really has this incredible French training I was missing. Though a young man, he has 10 years of experience in French salons. I can vouch for the thorough training he acquired since his mentor has cut my hair since I was 10 years old! I highly recommend Guillaume on all accounts. read more

Best salon I've beento in NYC! I've been to quite a few in Manhattan. This is by far, tge best. It's charming with a friendly, accomodating, and oatient staff. I'm impulsive and decide on dramatic cuts/color within minutes. I've been indulged every time. Tina for cuts and Andrew for coloring: they've been able to take my botched/fickle descriptions of hair styles and manifested them into amazing hair-dos.
