I thought I had found my new salon! I went here a couple months ago and found myself back here to get my curly hair chopped for summer. However my recent appointment was just so disappointing and Nery was so snippy and rude that I can't go back. I booked a 4pm appointment and got a call at 3:36pm when I was about two blocks away. She doesn't ask - she tells me - I have to come at 4:30. This now throws off my entire evening. But, fine, I show up at 4:30 and I get a dismissive hello and I see she's coloring someone with foils. I know this means she has a bigger money customer in front of her and I'm definitely less important. At 4:40 I politely ask her how much longer it'll be. She responds, annoyed, saying it'll just be a few more minutes. When I explain that I'm asking because it's been 40 minutes, she tells me that these things happen and how she hasn't even eaten lunch. I mean, sure, I get it - things happen - but when you're coloring someone's hair with foils it means you had a walk-in who was more important which makes appointments pointless and instead of being apologetic, you're acting as I'm the one who was late when I've now accommodated 45 minutes of lateness. She finally takes me in the chair and instead of getting my hair washed first like my first visit, she sprays my hair with some water and starts cutting. This already tells me she's rushing me out. She cuts my hair and then has me get my hair washed by someone rushing because she had to pause someone's blowout to wash my hair. At this point, Nery lazily diffused my hair to barely dry and was like OK you're done! She then proceeds to charge me $10 more for the same haircut that I had only 10-12 weeks ago. I was so aggravated I didn't even argue. I paid her, tipped her despite her rudeness, and then tipped the poor girl who had to do a rush job shampoo on my head. The best part? She tells me she's sorry for the inconvenience - but it was dripping with insincerity. I was appalled and walked out knowing I was rushed out for a higher paying perhaps more regular customer and felt like crap because instead of being an enjoyable experience it was another example of unprofessional people who really have no clue what customer service is. Obviously I'll never come back and I'm sure she doesn't care - and that tells me (and you) all you need to know about this deplorable excuse for a business. read more

My hair - it has all the feels. Thick, rough, not straight, not curly, dry and oily all at the same time - and on top of it, I am starting to go gray. Nery just gets it, and she gets me. Neri and Christy do amazing jobs. However they are over priced. When you come In on time for your appointments sometimes you are waiting there for a while. Neri tends to over book people without seeing how long she will impact the customer having to wait. This also falls on Christy. All pretty much to get more money. Which comes off as selfish. She is nice but comes off as money hungry and won't even give you a deal if your a loyal customer. Christy seems to be overworked. I feel if Neri is overbooking customers and have them wait so long at least as a courtesy do a free treatment or blow dry or something. I hope Christy finds a better job where you is less over worked. She's so kind. read more

After showing and texting her a picture of the highlights I wanted, Nery not only didn't color match my dark brown roots and instead dyed my hair box black, she also did a couple barely visible highlights in the back of my hair when I was clear and showed a picture of highlights all over. She argued with me when I pointed this out and blamed me for not hearing her (I didn't, we had a very clear conversation, she just did something completely different from what I asked for and showed her). I said so and stood up for myself, after she ran out of attempts at blaming me she said she couldn't see the picture clearly (I TEXTED it to her). She claimed she would fix it but only added a couple more barely visible highlights, again looking nothing like the picture I showed and explained multiple times. I only paid because I was so upset and wanted to get out of there without any drama. This salon is awesome! The service was excellent. I chose to come here after looking at pictures and reviews, and they were definitely accurate. I got a hair cut, colored highlights, and blow out. Neri, the owner, was very friendly, and even though she was short staff that day she took my friend in even though she didn't have an appointment. Although this process took about 5-6 hours and was a dent in my being a grad student status wallet :( (~$300, mainly bc of the highlights process), it was well worth it. I trusted her with how to highlight and the mixture of colors- I was looking for a purple/magenta tone. She checked and made sure what we wanted each step along the way, which I really appreciate. Especially since some other hair stylists don't necessarily work with what you want because they think it won't look nice or take too long. So I really appreciate that she put in a lot of effort to make sure we were comfortable and happy with our hair. Within the time we were there, Nery, her son who worked the front desk, and her assistant all made us feel like family. There was a lot of warmth and openness, which my friend and I really appreciated. We were both very happy with our hair :) i didn't get a picture of my hair when it was done on my phone :( but it was amazing! Also, that day I went to go get cash for their tip and it was raining outside. Not only did they not listen to how I wanted my hair, the stylist mentioned that golden brassy (which is not at all what I wanted) looked really bad and unnatural. That is exactly what I ended up with, a tacky goldish orange. The look I wanted was somewhat highlighted/ ombré but they just died my hair one flat color and it looks absolutely terrible. Bottom line: if you want something that is more complicated, like ombré or highlights, this salon isn't the place for you. On top of that, it cost $300. Lastly, my hair was cut entirely unevenly by about 2 inches on one side. read more

I was careful about which place to pick considering it was the first time going from dark brown to blonde. I wanted one with a high rating on Yelp with one dollar sign to start. And then location was a factor. After narrowing it down to this and another place, I had a better feeling about this one so I called them up first and was able to get an appointment the same day on a Saturday. I want to thank them first for being so patient with me. I can't make a decision to save my life. I like so many different colors but deep down blonde was what I wanted. Both women there were very helpful in helping me decide and the ending result looked absolutely gorgeous. I was also happy to know they keep record of what exact color they used on my hair so I don't need to worry about wondering which color it was they used when I go back again. Absolutely loved this salon. I found this place by searching Yelp and doing a lot of price and review comparison and I was definitely not disappointed. Daniela takes her time to walk you through the process and understand what you want. She gave me the perfect color and cut and was jus so nice to talk to. I had previously gone to a very popular salon for a similar process and was unhappy with the results, mainly because it felt rushed, impersonal and frankly like they just wanted to get me out of the chair. Daniela took her time and slowly took my hair to a color that I was happy with. In terms of pricing, it's the best quality service for a great price. They charged me much less, for more services, then what I originally paid at the high end salon and the results where so much better. Love this place! I had my hair cut there for the first time recently, and the stylist (Neri? Can't quite recall the spelling, sorry!) did an excellent job on my long layers. When I've gone to other places to get a trim on my curly/wavy hair, it's usually kind of... Snip snip, done. She really took the time to make sure every section looked good, and worked on the edges so it wasn't just dead straight...I haven't had anyone do that for my hair in the longest time! Best part was that my cut can work curly or straight - there was zero pressure to blow it out, but this time I chose to, and she did a fabulous job. I was actually turning heads when I left the salon, so I'd say that's a great result. The price is standard for the area, but I think you get your money's worth here, so I'd recommend them. I have been pinning different ombre looks on Pinterest for over a year and finally decided to take the plunge. I researched salons and chose Salon Pigmentos & couldn't be happier with the color, cut, and service. Nery was very patient with my lack of hair color knowledge and walked me through my choices & helped me pick the color. The final product was my natural medium/dark brown to an ash ombre and it is gorgeous. My hair was really stubborn with both the lifting and toning process. She noticed that I had subtle tinges of brass/yellow and told me I could come back and she'd make sure it was perfect. I was super nervous but her and her staff really made me feel at home and welcome. I think I want to upkeep the color. But even if I don't this is my new go - to salon for wash n cut. I love this salon so much that this is my second review to leave for them. I use to see Daniela, but now I see Nery with the help of Marta. They give the best customer service and they took me at the exact time my appointment was scheduled for. With only using a blow dryer they give the best blowouts. Today I got light layers and a blow dry and now my hair has so much body and volume. They have the most reasonable prices and you can tell they are professionals. After having relocated to NYC from NC and a great hair dresser, I was very nervous about letting anyone touch my hair but I was getting desperate, it had been about 15 weeks since my last haircut (and for those of you with curly hair, you know what that kind of extra weight means to volume). In the interest of not paying NYC prices, I searched for lower price hair salons and stumbled upon Salon Pigmentos. I was given an appointment for 11 AM (open time) easily the day before. I arrived a little early and the owner was outside sweeping up some trash and told me to have a seat. She seemed very welcoming. The shop itself is nice, small but basically maintained. Now I will say, this is not a luxury experience but unfortunately, high maintenance women really aren't my type anyway. My hair was first shampooed and conditioned. I sat down at the chair and the owner, Maria was my stylist. We discussed what I wanted and what problems I was having. I think for me, it helped that she had curly hair about the length that I desired mine. I first received a wet cut, then a blow out, then a dry cut finish. Overall, I was very impressed with my cut (which cost $55) and absolutely adored Maria. She seems very friendly and has built a great network of women who come in regularly to see her. I'm the kind of guy who likes to change up my haircut... a lot. I also, according to the opinion of a plethora of my stylist friends, have really, really hard hair to cut. We're talking thick, unruly, and made up completely of cowlicks in all the wrong places. That said, I've never been unsatisfied with a haircut that I've gotten at Pigments (edit: Salon Pigmentos). Nary is an understated expert at men's cuts. She really takes the time to work with my hair and I know, no matter what I ask from her, that when I walk out of the salon, I'm going to be walking out looking my best. The fact that the pricing is beyond reasonable (I'd even say cheap, given the high quality of the cut and the time she puts into making sure it's just right) is just an extra perk. I moved out of the East Village one year ago, and since then have dealt with some good, some bad, always unpredictable cuts. I'd be lying if I didn't say that being one block away from Pigments isn't at least part of the reason for my move back. read more

I chose Salon Pigmentos based on Yelp reviews. I'm pretty happy with the results. Nery and her staff are complete sweethearts and listened to everything I had to say before getting started. She explained what she was doing and why before she did it, and checked in throughout the process to ensure I was happy. It took ages because I had a single process, highlights, and toner, but I'm pleased with how it turned out so I don't mind - although I'm glad it was a slow day (Sunday) because otherwise I would've felt bad that they spent so much time on me. The price was reasonable, especially for Manhattan. I don't give 5 stars because the blonde isn't exactly what I was looking for; there are too many dark areas on the underside and the tone is a little warmer than I prefer. read more

I was going in for a single process and I needed them to match my red hair, which is not an easy shade to match. Daniela's work is AMAZING. I came here because of the wonderful reviews. I wanted to go for a change since I had black hair for so long. I REGRET it. I was there for 11 hours for a color that was totally off and broken hair. I clearly told her from the beginning is it possible and she said yes or I can get close to it. I wanted a wine color and came out with patches of brown, black, and little pieces of red. She said she would charge me $450 for the entire thing and come to find out on my credit card she secretly charge me $470. Not only did my hair came out absolutely horrible, she secretly charge me more than she said she would, which is absolutely horrible. Horrible experience I do not recommend this place. When my hair lady of 9 years left to North Carolina, I was looking for a trusted replacement. After a lot of research, I decided Salon Pigmentos would be a good place to try with a haircut and a blow dry. Neary is a goddess. She gave me a cut with a longer front and a short back with lots of layers that made/makes me feel like a total badass. To date, I've received blowdries, haircuts, and a keratin treatment. My hair is much more well behaved and so much better overall. My sister is getting a perm with Neary to get her curls back as I write this review. A few protips: Call ahead of time; pay with cash if possible (they do take cards though); and for any kind of major hair changes or cuts or colors, bring a picture for reference! read more

I decided to write this review after a month so that I can look at it with a cold head. I have been at pimentos many times. I always thought Nery did a reasonable job. However, my last experience was more than bad. I went to Nery to get my hair done because I wanted to let my own natural color grows. I am 50 with some gray hair. I thought this was the right time for me to let my natural color. The first time, she did a fair job adding some silver highlights to the front. However, I noticed some yellow spot in the roots and decided to go back and see if she can fix it. Then I told her that I would like to have the same silver effect that I had a week ago. MY MISTAKE!! She bleached my hair too much that she burned it. Even a couple of time I suggested that it was a little too long the time with the bleach in my hair but a friend of Nery that was there even gave me a little lecture saying: It sounds a little bit offensive to doubt about an expert. Result she burned my hair, she did not even say sorry. She even blamed on me that I decided to do this. (I am not an expert, I trusted her). She even said. Why do you cut your bangs short? (it was the part of my hair that was burned). When I passed my hand on the side of my head where the highlights were done, I ended up with hair in my hand. When I asked Nery look at this, she said ooh sometimes the process and bla bla blah... Never said I am sorry or something. In the end, she told me you don't have to pay me; however, I did not want a favor, and I paid her 50 dollars the money that she charged me for the color. Ah by the way, she tried to cover the yellow spot in the root applying color over color that never worked. This is not a bad place, is not great either. Nery is a nice person but being honest with a client I think is crucial. Blaming on a customer who put her hair in her hands.... mmmm hh hh bad. She also is pricey for what she does. Sorry I went many times because I did not know any other place. I wear glasses. Whenever I tried to put my glasses on she asked me to wait to see he final result. My daughter that was there, noticed that and she did not understand why Nery did not let me put my glasses on. Now I laughed... sure she did not want me to see the mess she made in the front. I came in here one summer afternoon after googling "salon for curly hair". I've been coming ever since. Ive had my hair cut as well as had my grays colored and i'm never disappointed. Sure, you can go to Ouidad or DevaChan for a superior "curl specialist" cut, but for the price, this is really fantastic. I mean, Nery has curls - you gotta trust a person who has curls herself. And, if you're a curly girl who likes a blow-out after a haircut - these ladies really are magic. My blowouts last at almost a week while still holding the beautiful curled ends like I like. Pigments Salon is excellent! I stopped by as a walk-in on a Friday late afternoon requesting a quick trim on my shoulder length hair and they welcomed into their salon with open arms. The salon is cute, I felt like I was in a stylish home. And I got an excellent hair cut! She took her time with my hair, executing perfection, even on just a simple trim.
