Walked in for our res (kinda late) and no issues w the host, they were actually super nice. Really cool vibe - dark and moody but not like lights off and can't hear dark and moody. Sat in a corner booth and service was great! Waiter had really great timing too. We ordered the lasagna, fusilli and veal parm. Cheesecake for dessert (with a candle in it for a birthday). Even though I walk by Sartiano's almost every day, I never realized it was a restaurant--or how big it was. The vibes were amazing. When you walk in, there's a bar area where I assume they seat walk-ins, but if you have a reservation you'll most likely be directed downstairs. The setting and ambiance were great. They also have a coat check, and even the details stood out--the soaps were Le Labo. The service was phenomenal: very attentive yet respectful, and we never felt rushed. The food was incredible. Arrival was upstairs street level at the café tad confusing, but figured out right away to go downstairs to meet the hostess. We were seated right away for our reservation wasn't too busy and wish they would've seated us in our location. That was a little less crowded there was a lot of open seating and all the tables for two or but it up so close to each other. It would've been nice to have a little bit more privacy. They were a bit behind so they lead us to the bar to get a drink before we were seated. The martinis were absolutely fabulous and had a strong kick to it. Solid first impressions before being seated. I also ordered the dirty umami which came with a side of caviar and it was a kicker for sure. I would get in trouble if I ordered another! Although we had reservations we did have to wait 20 minutes past time to be seated. The tables are a bit close with an open kitchen vibe. Service was on point and pretty attentive. We started with the focaccia bread ($12) the smooth ricotta was a delightful pairing with the meatballs ($22). We then moved onto the rigatoni ($29) which was flavorful and so good! Loved the sauce. Incredible dinner. Vibes immaculate. Had the lasagna bc I feel like most times, lasagna is rarely vegetarian friendly, and this one didn't have any meat, so that is a win! For starters the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL! We sat at the bar while we waited for our table and I ordered an umami dirty martini that was so GOOD. It came with a spoon of truffle caviar! There wasn't a dish I didn't like but I will say the pasta was my favorite dish (unfortunately I can't remember the name and it isn't on the menu) followed by the baked clams. The branzino came in an olive sauce that made the dish very unique and delicious. For dessert I ordered the pistachio semifreddo which was perfect because it wasn't too heavy. I will say the only negative is that the staff knew it was my husband's birthday and no one sang to him or even attempted to make it special. Very sultry spot inside The Mercer. You would never guess the level of sexiness just walking by on the street. If I'm rating anything first, its the pizza. This pizza is award winning! I took an out of towner to try the famous Rubirosa's Tie Dye Pizza. The pizza from Sartiano's is better. I ordered the Calabrese pizza but my wife asked for 1/2 red onions? They made for us a 1/2 red onion pizza with 'nduja and red calabrian chili honey, its was a killer pizza. So why the four stars? Ambiance? Sultry. Sexy. Downstairs had a beautiful bar with an open kitchen. And the bathrooms?! OMG, they had Le Labo soap AND hand cream! In the mens room! Very classy touch. We each started with a glass of wine, I had a glass of Tuscan red and my wife and a nice glass of orange wine. Next, pizza and salad. The salad was a Chicory Salad with chopped pears and candied pecans. There were also delicious mild slices of Italian cheese, this was another fabulous dish. Finally the Cacio e pepe. I was just in Rome last fall and I was craving a good Cacio e pepe. The pasta comes to the table. Freshly made Bucatini with another mild cheese. Just a little light on the pepe. We truly enjoyed everything we ordered - no misses or regrets. Our server was very helpful in guiding us through the menu and helping us make decisions. There were for our us and we ordered the Caviar Cannoli, Crudo, Meatballs, Steak Tartare, Clams, Focaccia, Lasagna, Doppio, Caesar, the 10oz Waygu Zabuton, the 12oz NY Striploin, and 3 desserts. Came here on a Monday night and had a lovely time. The inside is absolutely beautiful with dim lighting. The staff were also very attentive. We started with the foccacia which is a must get and was so fluffy and delicious. We also got the fritto misto which was perfectly crispy and the aioli sauce was delicious. For our mains we got the paccheri which was perfectly al dente and filled to perfection with ricotta. I didn't love all of the meat that comes with it separately but the pasta itself is absolutely incredible and the meatballs were great. We also got the doppi which was a ravioli and was delicious as well, though a bit of a small portion to share. We were seated by the bar area as the dining room was full, the ambiance and interior atmosphere of the restaurant is quite lovely as I do love classic cars and the light and mixing of elements within the restaurant. The staff was friendly and we were greeted by our server immediately and ordered drinks. We both enjoyed the orange wine, and started to order- for appetizer we shared the Cesar salad, and for mains I ordered the Branzino while she ordered the 8oz prime center cut filet which came with salad and potatoes. The food was served promptly and the quality of the ingredients was fresh and well balanced. We did not opt for dessert but I overall enjoyed my meal. The portion was also decent so I would imagine this restaurant would be great as an option for a date night. We are still talking about our night at Sartiano's! From the moment we walked in, the maître d', Chris and his front of house team made us feel so special and welcomed. The service was exemplary (loved our waiter and his tatted assistant!) they treated us like VIP's. We started out with Champagne and a few of their specialty cocktails. Each of them were creative and fantastic. We especially enjoyed the Unami martini! The food was outstanding. Delicious apps, beautiful desserts and more -- our out of town guests were blown away! Chris stopped by and greeted us again at our table, kindly making sure we were having a pleasant experience. He even took the time to pose for a photo with us. Very gracious. As were rolling out of the restaurant, happily stuffed and completely satisfied one of our guests spied one of their favorite celebrities dining at a nearby table. At that point I think Sartiano's solidified itself as their favorite restaurant in NYC! Lol. I must say, It was truly a perfect, over the top New York dining experience for them and even for us slightly jaded New Yorkers. I have to give credit to the designer, but from that point it went down hill, we had drinks at the bar, I hate when restaurants overcharge for drinks and serve children size drinks. Serving a martini only 80 percent full is a pet peeve for me. Wine by the glass is 24 or 25 per glass, for a mediocre wine. Now to the food. For the apps we had the Caesar salad,yellowtail Crudo, meatballs and focaccia bread. The apps were the best part of the dinner in order were. 1 was the bread, 2 yellowtail, 3 Caesar salad, the meatballs. All pretty good , certainly not great. The meatballs were very underwhelming, too much cream and garlic Have had a lot better Italian food at CB places 1/2 the price. We had the scallops, bucatini and Camarillo. All have same issue too drowning in cream and butter. Literally my stomach is aching. There was one highlight. It was my son's birthday and we ordered the tiramisu. It came with a candle, so thank you. The dessert was delicious. I just don't get it $30 for some Cavatelli with some sausage, very little sausage and pasta, too much sauce too much garlic. The restaurant is really big and filled up quick, but wasn't too loud where it was hard to have a conversation. As for the meal, we ordered the foccaccia, winter citrus salad, lasagna, and tagliatelle. Overall, the food was good. The foccaccia came with a delightful ricotta spread and the olives embedded in the bread were a nice touch. However, our loaf seemed unusually airy for a foccaccia. The salad could have benefitted from more lettuce, but I loved the balance of sweet and more bitter flavors from the citrus slices and the endives. The pastas were good, but got cold really fast. Despite this, the tagliatelle was the favorite dish of the night: it was perfectly creamy and buttery and the crab was cooked really well. The lasagna, although a crowd favorite, did not stand out to us. There was too much of that truffle cream sauce, so it was hard to taste the flavors within the lasagna itself. We did not try any of the desserts because none of them piqued our interest. In conclusion, Sartiano's a nice spot for a reliable Italian meal. I came here for my birthday dinner and absolutely loved the experience from the food to the service. However, I gave 4 stars bc it was my birthday and they did charge for dessert. I got the tiramisu, it lacked the kind of sweetness I and felt heavy due to the chocolate glaze. The tiramisu just wasn't tiramisuing and the coffee flavor was gone. I've been to plenty fine dining restaurants that do give complimentary dessert for your bday. We did however receive free shots courtesy of our waitress. Regarding the food, skip the appetizers and go straight to the entree. I got the whipped ricotta w/ foccacio which was nice but not spectacular. The foccocia was alot harder than expected. The branzino was amazing but not filling. For a filling meal get the pasta. I got the buccuanti w/ lobster and its garlicky buttery taste was heavenly. While I do prefer my noodles softer, the al dente pasta did not take away from the flavor. The waiters were soooo kind in taking photos and really went all out to give you a light filled photo with the dimness of the area. We ordered a few food items : the focaccia. It's not focaccia. It's a big fluffy roll shaped loaf of bread cut in half. Comes with a side of butter or cheese, we couldn't figure out what the spread was but It was good. The bread was tasty, but it's def not focaccia. We ordered the Ceaser salad. Everyone said it was good. Honestly it was meh. It has tahini which is kinda weird and makes the flavor a bit chalky. The salad def needed salt or something to bring up the flavor profile. The pasta to share comes with don Angie looking ziti, and a side of meatballs, short rib and sausage. The sauce was good but the overall flavor of the pasta was pretty bland. This was also under seasoned. I will be back because the scene was good and the bartenders were nice but I'm not sure if I would order any of the dishes. As someone who has had a lot of martinis in her life, this was probably the best one I've ever had. It came with Kalmata olives and a hefty spoonful of caviar that was absolutely delicious.
