But I'm so glad my family and I decided to try it. If you've ever been around Israelis like I have, this place definitely gives off an Israeli vibe. This is ... THE BEST ... falafel sandwich I have ever had, though I am comparing it to mostly the poor Mediterranean scenes in ATL, and elsewhere, it really is the best falafel sandwich. I regret not trying other places in Paris, which people also say are so good. But, within my limited experience of Mediterranean cuisine, they do it right in my book. It is a lot of stuff they put in but, I think that's what I love about it. Most places in America don't do the "pocket", but they just fold the bread over the minimal ingredients, crushing the falafel (and they only put two of them in), so as to look more like a really thick taco. What really made me fall in love with this falafel is the grilled eggplant that they top it off with. Man ... I was all too happy after I had that first bite standing in the street. Who cares about the line when the end result is getting to taste this thing? Who cares about seating when you can just eat and walk and hang out in the street? I love eating while I'm moving. Hell, I love eating while I'm driving, but that's just me. I had another memorable menu item from them. The Poulet Saute Au Curry, oh man, I love me a sandwich like that, and remembering it from 2+ years back, it was nothing short of heavenly. If you're in Paris, you better shuffle your way over here at least once. If only for the eggplant that still haunts me in my dreams from time to time. Okay, yes, the falafel was supposed to be the main star, but I soon realized that I could have taken an entire pita stuffed to the brim slathered in some of that sauce. I'm pretty sure I've tried to eat at L'As du Fallafel every single time I've been to Paris since about 2005. And every time, they've been closed, or the line looked too daunting, or I somehow couldn't manage to get myself to Le Marais. And so last week while in Paris, I made it Priority Numéro Un to get this place off my check list once and for all. I consider myself to be a bit of an aficionado of falafel. It was basically a staple of my diet for the four years I was a vegetarian in my mid 20s (okay fine, we'll call it flexitarian, since I definitely never stopped eating foie gras). This place does not disappoint. Not only is it officially the best falafel I've ever eaten, but that daunting line outside? Wayyyy faster than it looks. We were two hungry ladies, were told the wait would be 15 minutes, which ended up being about 4 minutes, and we had food on our table (and subsequently in our bellies) in no time. Dare I say, this is the Mecca of Falafel. You have to, have to, have to eat here. I thought it would be more appropriate to keep to traditional French food while in Paris but who am I kidding. A) Paris has a bustling Middle Eastern community and B) This is actually the best falafel I have ever eaten. Delicious. I fell for the first falafel place on that alley (it has the green awning and this one has the red one) thinking it was L'As so I had to come back and actually have L'As! Everyone recommends this from friends who have lived in Paris to Rick Steves. I walked mine over to Place du Vosges (sp?) and finished it on a bench there. My husband and I decided to stop here for an early light dinner and we are very pleased we did. The atmosphere is like any other Parisian cafe with cramped seating and people engrossed in conversation. We made our way to the back and got to sit by the wall which was fine because I rather not feel any more enclosed than I already was. My husband and I sought out this window of greek goodness after our visit to the Picasso Museum and were not at all disappointed by what we found. The Fallafel and Shawarma were INCREDIBLE. So many layers of flavor and texture packed into those delicious pitas. And so cheap! Definitely worth the few blocks it took to walk there and we lucked out on a bench nearby to stop and enjoy our meal (very little seating avail). There was a line of about 10 people in front of us (tourists and locals) and staff were walking down the line taking orders and accepting payment which made the wait go super fast. Beware though, double check you are receiving correct change as I noticed we were 2 euros short and I heard a couple others in line wondering the same. We were on a trip to Paris and this place was highly recommended to us by a few of our friends. The lines were super long but we figured we had to try it. There seemed to be two separate lines: one for takeout and one for eating in. We waited almost an hour in the takeout line. They had someone come down the line to take your orders and payment which made it a little bit more efficient. Maybe because it was too hyped up for us plus the long lines made our experience just ok. It was definitely good value as the falafel sandwiches were huge with a lot of ingredients. However, the falafel was average. I think I've had better textured ones in the states. It's definitely worth a try but I recommend coming earlier in the day when the lines aren't as long. read more

This place is world famous, and deservedly so. Sure, there's always a long line, but these guys have been doing this for a while, and have perfected the art of getting the line moving quickly and efficiently. Your order is taken just as you get in line, though if you'd like to add to it after you've had some time to think about it, it's perfectly possible. I'd had falafel from two other places in London since returning from Paris and L'As du Falafel beats them both hands down. After receiving my falafel, I noticed a sign in the cafe window stating that this place was endorsed by Lenny Kravitz, along with a photo of said musician with the guy who'd just given me my falafel. I'm not sure if that in itself is an indicator of the quality of the falafel here, but I just thought it was an interesting, funny bit of trivia to throw in. While this place is open throughout the week, I'd recommend coming here on a Sunday, getting a falafel and then exploring the rest of Le Marais, given it's one of the few quarters in Paris which is open and active on a Sunday. read more

English: This is my favorite Falafel place. Hands down. I've probably eaten here more than all the other restaurants I've been to in Paris combined. When I lived in Paris I went here at least once a week. And now every time I go to Paris I stop here for lunch, unless it's a Saturday when the restaurant i closed. Amazing falafel. Amazing toppings. And... I just discovered when I went there to sit down for the first time in ages, that Monday through Thursday you can get schug ("piment vert") there on top of/instead of the harissa, which is much spicier and more delicious. The schawarma is also very good. Your options are waiting outside in line (which goes very fast) and just eating as you walk through le Marais, or eating in. 95% of the time I just get it to go. The line can be a bit intimidating and sometimes it gets hectic, but don't be discouraged, because it's well worth the 5 euros for one of the most delicious falafels ever. Francais: C'est mon resto le plus preferé a Paris. J'y ai mangé plus fois que tous les autres resto's que j'ai visitée a Paris. Quand j'ai habité a Paris, j'y ai mangé au moins une fois par semaine. Et maintenant chaque fois je vais a Paris, je vais aussi a l'as du falafel pour le dejeuner (sauf samedi quand le resto est fermé). Le falafel est extraordinaire, les garnitures sont extraordinaire. Deep in the Marais, I finally returned to L'As du Fallafel, often imitated (there's another one across the street) but never beaten. The quirk here is that you actually have to go inside to buy your meal, before heading back outside to hand it to the vendor. Many a tourist has queued up, finally reaching the window before being sent inside and subsequently to the back of the queue. Not this guy though! Instead of the standard fallafel, I opted for the meat, both chicken and lamb, grilling slowly on the spit, it had fantastic flavour, and the pitta was stuffed full of it, along with chili sauce, fried aubergines, lettuce and hummus. I wish I had more napkins, towards the end the combination of the sauce and the drippings for the meat lead to a little puddle in the bottom of the wrapper and it did get everywhere when the paper finally let go. One mark off for that and the fact that they could make it clearer for tourists to go inside and pay, it isn't that hard to figure it out, but you kinda assume that if you line up, then you can do everything in one go. Finally, something outside of a boulangerie in Paris where someone can get a budget bite on the run. My friends and I had just spent the past 4 hours in doing the Louvre. We were exhausted and I warned them of the long walk to this place. The journey was filled with complaining and my constant soothing, "We're almost there!" In the middle of the day, the wait was about 10-15 minutes. A man walked up to us while we were waiting on line and took our money and order. By that point, we were so jaded from the walk that we realized that we could have almost gotten scammed. American tourists must always be wary when traveling Europe. Don't worry though, the guy actually does work for the falafel shop. The sandwich was not the best falafel I've best, but definitely up there. Filled with many ingredients, a spicy red sauce, and well cooked falafel balls, I would recommend this for a cheap eat and something different from Parisian baguettes and bistros. read more

This is by far, the best falafel I have ever had. It's an interesting, hectic little street full of twists and turns, but we were definitely there for a reason so we were not distracted.. You can dine inside or order with the guy outside and take it to go. We took it to go and ate on a hydrant, along with a box of fresh strawberries, as to not feel like complete fat asses. L'as du Falafel is always jam packed with people, but there is always an option for take away and sitting on a sidewalk nearby! The guys who work here make falafels like magic: swift, sharp movements... a few slices of eggplant here, some lettuce, topped with crispy falafels, quickly layered with some sauce, then another few falafels thrown on top. So got in line, waited 15-20 mins, it's a lively street so the atmosphere is great and makes the wait go by fast. So the sandwich. The bread, is absolutely lovely. It's very soft and just absorbs all the flavor! The sandwich, as an idea is great. Delicious, big, saucy, messy. A good sandwich is messy. But I think in the hype they've gotten, they slipped a bit. At least the night I went. It was salty. The salad was salty and the falafel was salty. I could tell the sandwich would have been epic if not for that part. I couldn't finish it. The salt killed me. Wowza! 5euros for a whole falafel wrap!? This was by far the biggest surprise for me in Paris. What a great little joint. You know its going to be good when the line not only wraps around the plaza and but the place in front of you is selling the exact same stuff and there are only 2 people.
