Wonderful ambiance, great food, a bit too pricey for the locale and market. I do recommend it though.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVICE. My girlfriends and I had a 2pm reservation for a birthday and we just left the restaurant at 430pm. At no point within our 2.5 hour visit did anyone take our drink order.. we had to flag down service, same with our food order. If you need something you need to seek out service, they do not come and check on you. And when you ask for something you are met with an attitude and unprofessional behavior, that is unacceptable for the service industry. For an "upscale" restaurant it's a shame the service isn't better, you have to flag someone down for everything you need including more water. And be prepared to wait a good amount of time for anything you ask for. We were fully prepared to have a big beautiful brunch with drinks and laughter and were met with distance and poor service. This is not the way to gain returning customers who frequently go out and review restaurants. You would think with all the negative reviews and consistent feedback the restaurant would make adjustments. Sadly that does not seem like the case. read more

We made a reservation to celebrate our wedding anniversary 2 months in advance and the restaurant just called to cancel it so they can instead have a private event. Now we're so close to the date that all other special options are booked for a Saturday night. The effortless perfected staff, reception and interior , create a warm, friendly atmosphere that will amaze you despite a packed salon and they will never rush you thru your meal, allowing you to savor every moment. I like this place! Right by the water, in front of all the little quaint yachts (we did a cruise on one of them for work once, so maybe that happens a lot). Lots of older women at the bar - good but pricey drinks - very cute atmosphere and place, with couches outdoors! Lots of space. My friend and I came here today (7/15/19) and the man working the front of the house (lunch) was extremely rude and uninviting. Did not even crack a smile as we walked in, reminded us sternly that we should have had a reservation (even though there were PLENTY of seats), and annoyingly seated us without welcome. When my friend went to use the restroom (it was her first time there), she went the wrong way and he obnoxiously stated, "That's the chef's area and he's not in a good mood!" WHO SAYS THAT TO A PAYING CUSTOMER LOOKING FOR THE BATHROOM?? Someone in higher management needs to speak with this man about how to be cordial, as his social skills are lacking! Not a good representation of front of the house. Take down your "fabulous" a couple of notches. On the other hand, the servers were GREAT! They were kind, attentive, and friendly. 4.5 stars An elegant restaurant in a faux rustic Franch style with a cool vibe and relaxed feeling. There is a patio which gets booked quickly but interior is quite nice and even preferable. Food is mostly top notch and special. (The boullibase was a bit thick and salty though). Soufle was amazing. Black sea bass was great. bread was wonderful. Prices are not cheap, but commensurate with the quality of food and the elegance of the restaurant. One negative was the attitude of the hostess - who seemed a bit arrogant and uncaring from the phone reservation and in person (reddish haired girl with glasses and up-do). Usually at this level of restaurant, the customer service is top notch. The girls in the front seemed to continually have an attitude problem. The wait staff, seemed to all have hispanic accents, but were did wonderful jobs. Another negative, was that a weeding was going on on one side with loud techno music, and a small band was playing in the bar on the other side making quite a bit of noise. The band stopped and took a 30 minute break and when we went to see them after our dinner, they never seemed to come back, and hostesses were not helpful or kind - so we left without buying any furher drinks. read more

I've always wanted to take my Mom to L'Escale to sit on the patio to enjoy the view and decided to go there for her 90th birthday. The staff was excellent from the host and hostess who managed to add an extra table so we could be on the patio to the waiters, food runners and bussers who were always helpful and attentive. The food was terrific. A generous couple at a nearby table sent over two delicious desserts and all the nearby tables joined in to sing Happy Birthday. As a place to celebrate a special occasion, L'Escale was perfect. read more

I am a local and have been enjoying L'Escale for years. Went for a Saturday lunch with friends and loved just about everything, as I always have here--beautiful view outdoors on a nice day, delicious food, gracious service. The front-of-house, however, was unprofessional, rude and completely discombobulated. While waiting in the reception area, I watched a senior citizen couple arrive, say hello and give their name. Camilla, the hostess, responded that she did not see their name in her computer (no "I'm sorry," no politeness etc.) The woman responded that she received a confirmation and definitely had a reservation. Camilla then picked up the phone, made a call, and started arguing, loudly, with someone else about an entirely different matter, leaving the couple just standing there. The woman (client) passed the desk and let herself into the dining room in protest. I heard her say, "well, if you're not going to help me, I may as well seat myself." Only when Camilla was off the phone did she follow the woman to chase her out of the dining room. This was so poor and really ruined my own visit (and I was simply a bystander). The woman's husband asked the second woman at the desk if she could seat them, but she responded, "sorry, I'm in training and I have to do what she [Camilla] says." Upsetting and embarrassing to say the least. But my meal, view, and table service were all lovely. read more

3.5 - 4 stars. The ambiance, cocktails, and food are wonderful. Got the tuna tartar, shishito peppers, salmon, cavatalli, and some mixed cookies for dessert. I was a little bummed that I experienced food poisoning later that night into the early morning (based on what my husband ate we narrowed it down to the pasta). I would hate to mistakenly pin it on the restaurant but I hadn't eaten much that day except cereal.... Service was very good and there is plenty of staff to assist you. Pompous! That is what I'd call their director of operations David Fletcher. How he got to this position based on how he handled our visit is odd. We came to l'escale restaurant on Saturday after a wedding and it seemed they were short staffed. The groom recommended this place because he was staying there and we'd come to him to celebrate. We were ALL on the patio and enjoying ourselves and no one complained about the wait for drinks and the bartenders were doing a great job. No worries at all. A female manager then shooed us off the terrace and said to go inside. Ok we did as instructed and 10 minutes later the band stopped playing, lights came on and we were told the bar is closing so close your tabs. It's 9pm! We were dumbfounded. David Fletcher wanted nothing to do with us (20 adults) and wouldn't even talk to us. After most people left I asked him why and he said, "I wanted you all out and we're going to reopen when you're gone". Were we loud? There was a band playing over us! Did we confront anyone and be disrespectful? NO to both. David was a arrogant and a pompous bully and all of us said we'd NEVER go back nor recommend l'escale restaurant to any of our friends. If you want to enjoy yourself go to East End Restaurant at the bottom of Greenwich Ave. This is my first post ever of badmouthing any establishment. read more

Food was delicious, particularly the ricotta gnocchi - but what we were hugely disappointed with was their careless disregard. They charged us for an additional bottle of wine - which we might well have not noticed. But fortunately we happened to and brought it to their attention. A late dinner on the patio by the water, on a warm summer evening with great friends, it doesn't get better than this. We shared a few appetizers, the highlight being the mixed seafood platter. Fried goat cheese with arugula and figs was delicious. Kale salad and tuna tartare also good. We finished with the chocolate soufflé and coconut sauce. Attentive service rounds out this restaurant. I'm a patient guy. I truly am. I usually only care about the food. But the service disaster we just sat through was egregious. Let me itemize it for you: * Took 30 minutes and two requests to get water * Took 45 minutes to get our appetizers. The Caesar salad arrived without dressing and when we pointed this out, the waiter told us we were wrong without even looking. * Took 30 minutes to add dressing to aforementioned Caesar. *45 minutes between appetizers and entrees. No explanation. No apologies. Nothing. * Medium-rare burgers arrived well done. * Our waiter never once asked anyone if they would like another drink after we first sat down. Maybe we just hit it wrong or had the wrong waiter, but this was one seriously unpleasant experience. read more

This restaurant is a sham. It charges a ridiculous amount of money because it's on the water. The food is nothing special. By this I mean not very good. The crab cakes were fine. The capers mayo that came with it was fine. All of the flavors were muted and way too boring. Especially when it's $14 for two lame crabcakes. The worst offender was the small cut of goat cheese (with nothing else - just a small 1 inch slab) for $17! and it was some of the worst goat cheese I've ever had. The "fritatta" they made was not a "frittata" but rather an omelete. If the chef reads this and would like a recipe for a frittata, I would be happy to oblige. The french toast was ok, but the bread they used was nothing special. And it should be considering the price. The shrimp cocktail? Good, but the cocktail sauce was nothing special - and it should be for $15 for 4 shrimp. The worst offense was the eggshell that was found on my friend's eggs. The chef had clearly stopped caring by the time our order went in. I rate restaurants based on the expectations they place on themselves. If you are going to price your plates this high - you demand criticism if you are going to make such obvious mistakes and such bland food. read more

More than once has the arrogance of this restaurant triumphed it's ability to provide remotely any hospitality or decency to its guests. On one occasion, I booked a table for 6 and requested outdoors. Upon arrival, the hostess informed us that parties of 6 were not allowed to sit outside. As we made our way to the indoor table, several parties of 6 and more were seated outside. When confronting the hostess she got aggressive and failed to make any rational explanation to the reason she lied on behalf of lescale policies. Our food then took over 3 hours to come and the hostess was unapologetic and consistently rude. On another occasion, I booked a party of 9 over the phone for 10 days in advance. With the call history on my phone and several witness who heard me make the reservation, Lescale denied that this call had ever happened. My grandparents who are 90 years old were visiting and had been excited for this reservation that L'Escale denied existed. It is honestly beyond disappointing when the arrogance and entitlement of a restaurant makes them incapable of admitting a mistake. It is safe to say I will not be returning to L'Escale. read more

The seating outdoors by the water was very nice on a warm day. The service was good. The food though was a complete let down. Out of 4 of us, none of us thought our dishes were very good. The tuna nicoise salad I had was drenched in way too much oil. It ruined everything in the salad and the pieces of tuna tasted too fishy. Really I should have sent it back. At the prices they ask, the food needs to be much much better. My mom commented at the end to the waiter how the meal could be so different/so much worse this time around than when they were there earlier in the year. The dining room is as pretty as always but the food was awful. We went for brunch. The smoke salmon tastes like an imitation , fake and very salty. The croque Madame appeared to have been pre cooked, not much taste and the portion was very small. We ordered an egg for a child, and it arrived uncooked. The burger was ordinary and even our 5 years old reported that her pancakes did not have any taste. The bathroom was dirty and unkept. L'Escale - French Near Me - Greenwich, Connecticut

I love L'escale, but not for the food - I love it for the atmosphere and absolutely stunning decor. Every single room in this restaurant is dramatic and elegant, from the blood red bar room to the white linen tablecloth and candle formal dining room to the fairy lit back patio on the water. Every time I have an out of town guest, my go-to for drinks is the bar at L'escale. Maybe its because I used to waitress here in college when it was the laid back Atlantis beach bar, but I have a strong sense of familiarity and comfort sitting in this restaurant, which always make for a pleasant experience. It's also a big hang out for Greenwich "townies", and if you are from the area you will most likely always run in to someone you know. The red room bartender practices Sivananda yoga in the Bahamas on his off weeks, and can fix you a mean fresh raspberry caipirinha upon request. The french fries on the outside deck are crisped to perfection, and while the champagne is expensive, its worth the view. The tuna tar tar salad is an absolute must order item. I would definitely recommend this place for before or after dinner drinks. You will run in to the hedge fund crowd here, so if suits and stilletos aren't your thing, you may want to head to Greenwich Avenue around the corner instead. read more

This place is the place to be if you're stuck in Greenwich over the summer and must socialize with the Polo playing crowd and/or the yacht docking crowd. Right on the water, it's beautiful as the sun sets. The indoor is more formal, while the outdoor area is much more casual (thus the polo players). It is a high end crowd and there are a fair amount of both well-taken-cared of single females and males obviously looking to meet each other. Drinks are pretty good. The food on the other hand is on the bland side and between the salad and the halibut, I found myself stuffed but not really satisfied. Overall, I think you are better off just grabbing drinks here. Lastly, their parking lot usually has a nice selection of cars (this is Greenwich afterall) with a couple of Bentleys and from time to time a classic muscle car. During the workweek, this place does fill up with suits and if you must dine a client in Greenwich, this is certainly the place to do it at. read more

Went here on the recommendation of an associate at work. The decor is a little old school, but it's executed well. Contrast that with the service, which was executed horribly aside from the constant, almost intrusive re-filling of water. The food was quite terrible. I had the grilled calamari to start: a little rubbery, absolutely tasteless sauce, dry chickpeas and inedible leaf garnish. No one at the table liked it. The entree was a crab and green pea ravioli. The presentation was awful; it looked like a shiny, green bowl Nickelodeon slime. The ravioli itself was alright, but an overpowering acidic sauce destroyed the crab's delicate taste. Not good. I was with two other people, and they are responsible for one of the stars given. One of them ordered the grilled lamb, which looked really appetizing (a star). Another ordered a chicken dish, which also looked good but was overcooked (no star). There are plenty of decent restaurants in Greenwich. Stop at L'escale's bar if you must, but walk away if you're hungry. read more

Waiting half an hour for someone to pick up the check (until we had to walk it up to the hostess station ourselves). Another 20 minutes before our waiter came to the table. We had to ask for water four times before it was brought. I've been once before years ago and had pleasant memories of the place. Today, you would literally get better service heading over to IHOP. We had a private party of about 25-30 people here and from what I saw all the people were very happy. It's located in a gorgeous touched up 'historic' hotel. I'm not sure if what I had was vegan or vegetarian, but I had a salad and gnocchi. The salad was very tasty and the gnocchi was amazing. Also, the balcony was really nice and you could see a nice river from the top. Would definitely go here again for dinner. read more

New Year's Eve brunch with old friends here. The decor is charming with a great view of the harbor. Food was good, not over-the top special but better than average. Ambiance was relaxed but upscale. Points off for somewhat stressed/confused appearing staff and the fact that my salad arrived while I was away from the table, accompanied by what I assumed was a small cup of salad dressing, however after I poured it over the salad one of my friends informed me "Oh, that was juice, they told me to tell you but I forgot." This is really in the 3.5 range. I am giving them 3 stars because this is really not a "As good as it gets" type of place, but a very nice place nonetheless. I visited L'Escale with my boyfriend and his family during brunch. The service was wonderful and the ambiance was dreamy. It seemed like a place you would host a wedding or event as the dining room was big and bright, and the decor was understated but very effective. What I am trying to say is that I felt good being there, looking over the water, and drinking my brunch bloody mary. So yes, the service was good and all of the servers are very attentive. However, the food was just average. From the bread, to my butternut squash soup, to my entree (omelet), to my dessert, nothing wowed me to the point that they bump up to four stars. Food had no flavor. I ordered the Christmas delight which came with meatballs, ham, two small hot dogs. Meatballs were like rocks, cold and tasteless. Hot dogs and ham the same. Then I ordered the lobster, I was tired of constantly chewing each piece, I spit out a few pieces. Tasteless like rubber and cold. Dessert I ordered chocolate gaunach and that was hard as a rock and tasted store bought. Nothing fresh there. My wife's steak had rubbery pieces too with a medium rare cooked steak. She spit out a few pieces also. Her creme brûlée was cold, I tasted it and it wasn't good. When me and my wife first arrived, I asked the waiter if he can suggest a semi sweet red wine from the menu and he looked at me like a deer in headlights for about 20 seconds and said let me find out. 20 mins past I see him with a tray of drinks and handing them out to another table a few tables over from us. Then finally another woman comes over to us and doesn't give me choices of semi sweet wines from menu she just has one bottle ready with a glass in her hand. She makes me taste the wine and I just said yes because it took forever anyway. Then my wife orders her wine from the same lady and it never came, another 20mins later. We had to flag down another waiter to get her wine. The food runner was about to put the food down to a table next to us and they tell him we haven't ordered any food yet. We weren't checked up on from our original waiter thru out the dinner, he was swamped with table everywhere. He came once to see if we were ok at the end of our meal. The final bill comes and it's $187.00 two pre fixed $85.00 meals. We give them the credit card and my wife sees a bill paid of $217.00 on her phone. We're thinking they already added the tip. The final card run receipt comes and they forgot to add the two wines we ordered. We thought maybe it's part of the pre fixed meals price. No one mentions so sorry we forgot to add the wine. Nothing. Complete shit show. How they have all these positive reviews and they charge what they charge is beyond me. Won't be coming back. read more

L'escale was fabulous! I attended a party over the weekend and we all had a blast. As soon as we arrived the parking lot was full but the valets were lined up ready to assist. We entered and a friendly gentleman escorted us to where our party was. I admired the pretty dining room when we walked through. Our party had a private room so we were half inside and had half of the outside patio on the water. As the night progressed the service was top notch. Drinks were poured nicely, servers making rounds and the food was outstanding. We had a hot buffet with some yummy items. The apple and walnut salad was great.The farfalle pasta was tasty and the filet mignon was juicy. Loved the sauces on the side. After the party finished we hung out at the outdoor bar until close. The location is perfect for a warm evening. Take a walk along the dock, sip some wine, and check out the yachts. 5 stars for a great experience! read more

Simply put, this is a little piece of Monaco just outside New York City! Take the unassuming exit 3 in CT from 95 North, right at the light and there you have it. A yacht laced marina hugging the Delamar Hotel greets you with a view of the Long Island Sound, which may as well be the Mediterranean Sea! It's always a bit of a car show as you pull up to the valet. Walk in and you have three options: sit in the lounge area, the main dining room, or outside next to the boats. Surely it does depend on the seasons. I have sat in the dining area a few times on a sunny Sunday morning for brunch, which by the way is excellent. The lounge area is perfect for a Friday or Saturday night when it turns into a classic piano bar with a classy and very upscale crowd. And the outdoors is ideal for an evening meal while watching the sunset. There is also an outdoor bar which opens at 3pm which is a great hangout. I've been there over 10 times so this review is a bit overdue. I went there last night again so this review is fresh. Now for the food - it's an excellent menu and really well thought out. The seafood is always fresh and the flavors are never overbearing. There's something for everyone, even vegetarians! Try the truffle risotto... a must do dessert is the Black and White Soufflé, which is unique to this place. A hidden gem on the wine list is the Cade Sauvignon Blanc which people would easily miss and not too pricey. The steak here is also good and quite hearty during the winter months. As for service, they like to take it slow, so never go if you're in a rush to get somewhere. For you city folk, surprise your date with a nice little drive up the coast and be transported to Europe! And because it's connected to a hotel, you may even want to spend a night. The SPA I hear is excellent. There's also a small cruise if you so choose. And a short walk will get you to downtown Greenwich which is filled with shops and restaurants. So, this is my go to place if I want to relax and "get away"! One of my favorite restaurants, the atmosphere is relaxed, the staff very attentive and the food.....always good. I am a profiteroles fan and they make a good one, so I'm always eating something light to have my favorite dessert. One of the other reasons I go to this place because we can have a quiet conversation without loud music or big noisy crowds. First time here last night! The ambiance, drinks, food and service was all on point! Friends of ours introduced us to this gem and we will definitely be back. The chicken paillard was cooked to perfection! I have never seen chicken pounded so thin! The greens on top were fresh and had great taste! Terrible service. Don't go unless you have a lot of time and just don't care when you get served. Plays to a very upscale clientele and I'm really surprised people come back. The food was just OK. Nothing great and certainly nothing I couldn't have eaten at a thousand other restaurants. As for the service: 1: The waiter never returned and asked if we would like another round of drinks before dinner. 2: Took an hour to be served the salads-and one was wrong. Took another hour to get the main course. 3: Took 20 minutes to get a single cup of coffee. When I asked the waiter where it was he replied "if it doesn't come soon I'll get it myself". We each had the special of scallop stuffed shrimp, I had the calamari & he had a very simple, but beautifully flavored pasta, followed by bananas foster & creme brulee. Where do I start...I ordered a Corona beer and my server poured it into a warm water glass. Then as I was halfway eating my oysters, that my server made me feel bad about asking the quantity in the order, a storm came through and started knocking glasses and bottles everywhere and rain getting into our food as well as all over us because the curtains they had were not fastened well so rain was getting everywhere. My fiancé and I went inside and awaited for our server at a new table because of the chaos. He said, "oh I though I lost you guys." I said nope, we're here and can we actually order some food. Then he said the kitchen had just closed so we couldn't get anymore food. So no food and only a drink. My girlfriend and I ordered 1 Prosecco and 1 dry martini. Our waiter as a comp brought us two glasses of rose that we didn't ask for. This made my fiancé really sick and she ended up throwing up later that night probably because you don't mix Rosé with a vodka. I paid $80 for two drinks and 6 Oysters that got covered in rain...They didn't bother comping us for anything except the rosé that we didn't want and that made us sick. The owner seemed cool but the waiter was annoying and the storm was unfortunate in a way...Nice area though! read more
