Our go-to ice cream place since moving here. Very generous servings and tons of flavor. I love their Grasshopper Pie - they don't always have it but there are tons of other choices when they don't. They also have soft serve! We've never tried their sundaes or milkshakes but imagine they would be tasty too. Decent parking and outdoor tables. Cash only!! I think they are way better than some of the more hyped places in RI - more affordable with more flavors! My only gripe is that I wish they sold tshirts haha. I have driven by this place so many times while doing errands on that busy street and never have I stopped for ice cream. Well that it will change in the future because they have great sugar-free ice cream. And that's my favorite kind. Mike and I stopped and he got a Sunday and I got a cup of sugar free ice cream with walnuts on top and it was delicious. Of course his Sunday was delicious because they had all of the toppings that he loves the best. They also have a great selection of items on their menu. Would pretty much make anybody happy I believe. The service is excellent the parking is easy. I would not recommend however on basis of the owner is often rude and yells at children and teens, and after a troubling story he shared with a customer. The owner danced around several black children being threatening because they had sweatshirts on and were walking to KFC. He stated he needed to be safe and always has "protection." He said the kids were suspicious because of their sweaters in the summer although they did not go to his establishment. I cannot support such a business. read more

Typical roadside ice cream place. Just not as good as typical. Pros: The young lady behind the counter was very friendly and nice. The servings are quite big. A small cone was a LOT of ice cream. Prices were higher end for the market, but not out of the realm of what should be expected. Picnic tables are available, but in the sun, without shade- which means you better eat that big cone of soft serve very quickly, or else. Cons: The hard ice cream didn't taste very good. I had bland, uninteresting black raspberry which aside from the lack of flavor, did have a chemically aftertaste that is reminiscent of bad tasting local water. Newport Creamery, which is nothing special either, is significantly better. The soft serve was watery and melted almost immediately as a result. Combined with the lack of shade on a sunny day, my son had to throw 3/4 of his cone away in 5 minutes. Is it better than nothing? Maybe. Certainly uninspired. There are better choices nearby, however. read more

Stopped by L'il Rhody this past weekend after running some errands along Route 2. It was very, very hot out, and while I knew that getting ice cream in the late afternoon would spoil my appetite for dinner, I found myself not caring all that much. They have a ton of flavors to choose from, and they all sound great. I got the cherry vanilla, and the fella got a mint chocolate chip milkshake. The milkshake could have used one of the straws with the little spoon at the end, but it was good nonetheless. I ordered a kids size cup, and I was pleasantly surprised at how big the helping was (about a medium-sized serving back at the ice cream places I used to go to in NYC). Considering how big the servings are, the prices are reasonable. Cash only as others have said, but they do make that very clear. I'm not one to carry buckets of cash in my wallet but having a few dollars in there this weekend worked out for the best. Keep a few bucks in your glovebox for a last minute trip to L'il Rhody, just in case. read more

You tasted the pb and the oreo, and whoever the genius is that thought to combine these flavors deserves some award. And the gram cracker ice cream was completely new to me and it was amazing. Chunks of tasty gram cracker throughout and almost a toffee like crunch as well. So good. Go there now, you'll be happy you did. Oh and how can I forget, they have doggy Sundaes! I'd actually rate them at 3.5 stars. A stop here on a picture-perfect Sunday afternoon capped off our Labor Day Weekend trifecta, having been preceded by a filling meal at Tommy's Clam Shack, and walking it off at Rocky Point park/walking path. L'il Rhody is on the southbound side of Route 2. If you are traveling north on Route 2, it's a bit tricky to get to, since Route 2 is a divided road in this area. However, there is a break in the divider that will allow you to turn left and enter a parking lot between L'il Rhody, and a KFC. They have a large selection of flavors (although I was a bit bummed out that they were out of peach). Prices aren't cheap, but the portions are generous. A small cone was plenty big for me. Service was friendly. My wife was a bit disappointed that they get their ice cream from Bliss Ice Cream in Attleboro, Mass., and not a local business (such as Warwick Ice Cream, which is literally just down the same road). Their ice cream tasted decent, but we both noticed that it seemed to melt faster than usual (at least they did give us a cup and spoon with our cones, in case we couldn't lick them fast enough and had to dump them into the cup). They have some outdoor picnic tables, some to the right of the building, and some to the left. There is not much charm or ambiance to the location, just the sight of traffic rushing by on Route 2 (although I tried to make the most of it by gazing at a grove of trees at a plaza across the road). It would also be nice if the owner(s) reinvested some money back into the business, as the building (which appears to have been a residence quite some time ago) that the ice cream shop occupies has fallen into disrepair, with broken or boarded-up windows and deteriorated siding and trim. read more

They have both real ice cream and soft serve with the flavor swirl thing, but chocolate or vinilla as the base. It is not high-end ice cream (which is fine, just don't eat it and expect that 'wow' factor) and on the occasions I have been there, one one person has been working so you need to wait. They have the absolute best chocolate peanut butter ice cream - great chocolate flavor with actually chunks of hardened peanut butter (think smooth, not crunchy). Delish. Waffle cones are great and service comes with a smile. Parking lot is not the best and there isn't much in terms of seating, but ice cream is worth it. Tasty, tasty yumminess. Their soft serve varieties heal the aches and pains of my normally bland, healthful diet of veggies and lean proteins. While I'm not a fan of "hard" ice cream at all (generally speaking), from what I did taste of my friend's serving, it was pretty good. The softies though are amazing: like, every flavour of the rainbow including my number one favourite of all time that I will swear by until the 2012 apocalypse, creamy pistachio sans the nuts. I love the ice cream stands that use the "gel" system (a mixer makes the soft serve and from there, a flavour gel is mixed individually to each order with whatever flavour the customer chooses). Love, love love it! Located across from the Christmas Tree Shop and on the same strip as many a plenty shopping venues, prices are pretty inexpensive and parking is relatively ample.
