Stopped in after a rehearsal dinner in the area and we wanted a sweet treat. Scoops is a super cute little ice cream shop with plenty of flavors and some super fun locally made sodas. I got a root beer, and a single scoop cone with two flavors: butter crunch and RI Black Bear. Both flavors were great! The gals working there were SUPER nice. When we came in we were the only ones there so they helped us sample a ton of flavors before settling on our scoops. We used to come here every weekend because it is close to where we live. It's easy for us to spend an average of $18 for several orders of ice cream. The servings are in the smaller side. Three weeks ago we ordered a large chocolate soft serve, which is what I usually order. Right away I noticed a sour taste - characteristic of a rancid dairy product. I suspect it was made with spoiled milk. I wrote the owner a private message via Facebook, as directed by the way employees; they said that since I could not prove it was from their store, there was nothing they could do for us. The owner has not responded to me, which is unfortunate. We wanted to get credit for the rancid soft serve, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, spoiled food is a health safety issue. Lack or response from the owner is unfortunate- more so because this type of customer service is uncharacteristic of a small businesses in Smithfield. Go to Blackbird Farm, another Smithfield establishment, which we prefer. They make their own ice cream and use milk from the cows they raise here. Anne Marie, the owner, is on site and great with customer service. Alternatively, if you are in North Providence, go to Cool Licks. They have a similar set up to Scoops, but deliver larger servings. George, Emily, and their children are usually there. They take pride in their ice cream shop and love to talk to their customers- they will bend over backwards to make you happy. Cool Licks is my husband's favorite ice cream place. He has been going there for 20 years. It's important for residents to support locally owned businesses; that is why we were so disappointed with Scoops. It really doesn't take much effort provide ANY type of customer service. I recommend that you support other dessert shops in our area who appreciate their clientele. read more

It's been a few different names but the service is always the same and ice cream yummy. I'm not sure where they get the staff from but every one of those young ladies are happy friendly and personable. There are generally Long lines since its the summer and everyone wants ice cream but they do a good job moving the line along quickly. They have so many different flavors it's tough to choose one. They have soft serve. Hard ice cream. Slush. Cookies. Sundaes. Even allies donuts. I always get coffee with jimmies. It was so huge I took it home and ate it three times. A cute little place that we stopped by for some ice cream but left with that along with some local donuts. Place is mostly outdoors with ample seating as you watch the cars passing by. You'll have to bring cash for this spot and they don't have an ATM machine... With many common flavors, I was more curious about the donuts that they had on display. The worker was able to go through each one explaining what they were as I continued to eat with my eyes. I finally couldn't make a decision and had the worker pick their favorite and I'm glad that they did as I were treated to a delicious donut while my sister and her friend consumed their ice cream cones. It saddens me to update my review on Scoops, but I feel like I have to as my most recent experience was so drastically different than my first. Scoops is no longer a safe option if you are looking for hard ice cream and have a nut allergy. I chose to go to Scoops to have a Sunday treat of ice cream. Having many choices in the area, I remember having such a positive experience, I decided to go back to Scoops. It was not too busy. A friendly girl came to help us, she answered questions about flavors. All was well, until I mentioned my nut allergy. Once I said I had a nut allergy, another employee rushed over to tell me I could not have any of the ice cream flavors. I needed to avoid everything. Nothing was safe. This has happened to more before at other places, and it is completely understandable. The attitude with which this information was delivered by an employee that was not originally helping me though, was very unexpected. I absolutely appreciate them being upfront and honest about their practices and how it would not be safe. It just caught me very off guard as they had been so accommodating in the past and their employees all very friendly. The delivering of this information was very brash and audacious. The girl who was originally helping us tried to offer other options like a vanilla soft serve or slushie, as those options might be safer, but at this point it was too late. I developed a sour taste in my mouth and I was ready to leave. I am sure Scoops is still great if you do not have an allergy. And I appreciate their honesty in their accommodating practices. I just hope in the future they can lend a more understanding ear. read more

I walk here on hot days to grab a slush or a cone. There's always a large selection to chose from. Last time I went they were still cash only which helps keep the cost lower than most cone shops. An ice cream shop with a variety of flavors AND that sells Allie's Donuts. What could be better!? It's cash only and they let you sample the ice cream and frozen yogurt flavors. They have a ton of interesting mixes and many Sundae options as well. They also sell Allies Donuts everyday except for Monday but be aware that they do sell it quickly. You can also order a donut cake through Allies and let them know Scoops will pick it up for you. I'd rather pay the $5 extra and get the donut cake from 5 minutes away than drive to South Kingstown to pick it up. read more

"Cash Only" policy in the year 2016 is a tad ridiculous, as is "shutting off" the soft-serve machine when you're getting ready to close but it is still business hours. However, when I am able to be served this is a fun place to come too. They have good flavors and great sizes. I also like their association with Ali's Doughnuts. read more
