I had a breakfast sandwich here this time. Of course we ordered ahead and then waited in the parking lot and it was brought right to the truck. We had given a credit card number so there was no contact which I love. And this was a really really really good breakfast sandwich. It's hard to take a bagel bacon, egg and cheese and do anything different with it but for some of this reason this really tasted nice. I was happy to to try it and to think Jeepers, we should go there more often because they are always so nice and friendly and the food is always really good. I also was reading signs on the restaurant itself while we were waiting for the food. It's just a little sandwich and breakfast shop and yet you have to call ahead before you can go in there to eat and for takeout you order from your car or wherever you are and then just go sit in the parking lot and they bring it out to you. I am very impressed as a small business like this goes to such lengths but I'm very grateful as well. We definitely will be back for more of this. read more

This place is HANDS-DOWN the BEST diner I've ever been to in my life (and I've been to a lot between MA and RI). The home fries are super flavorful and their homemade corned beef is so tender with a slight grilled taste. The waffle I ordered was soft, fluffy, and packed with vanilla flavor. This is my go to spot for weekend breakfast. The staff is incredibly friendly and they have the best bacon egg and cheese sandwich ever! Bacon is so crispy every single time which is a must for me. The home fries are great, too, as well as other assorted bagels and pastries I've tried. I also like the French Toast iced coffee a lot. Support your local small busines! The people that work there are so friendly and made me feel like a regular after only a few visits. I don't live in the area but I do work near here. Small locally owned mom and pop place serving some seriously delicious food. As others have said seat yourself, check out the menu on the wall and when you're ready order at the counter. Food will be brought out to your table when it's ready. Single handedly the item I feel the need to talk about is the corned beef hash. This is not from a can. This is the real stuff and by far the best I've ever had. As I was told if it's cooked slow it's good and it is real good! Home fries were excellent and I love those nice crispy pieces. I also love a place that knows how to put some French lace on my egg. My friend raved about her Banana hazelnut iced coffee and we all left nothing on our plates. Okay, so the waitress brought someone else's order to us, then neglected to inform them of the mistake. She told us we could eat what she'd served us while they prepared our actual order, as she'd have to throw it away otherwise, anyway. The couple whose order we were served eventually inquired as to why the wait was so long, and were told then of the mixup. They understandably left at that point. I almost followed suit when the server called us to the counter to say that she'd forgotten what we'd originally ordered, but the cook yelled to her then that our order was ready. The food was actually good, the service was obviously abysmal. The bottom line is that they need more help, and if you mess up someone's order, you should probably let them know at the outset. read more

Yet again, I disagree with all the 5-star reviews on here. Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to bash on Messy's. On the contrary, I really want to like the place, and I think it has great potential. It's just that my visit on Saturday morning was in NO way worthy of 5 stars, and probably not even 4 stars, and that goes for both food and service. First off, Messy's sends a mixed message to its dine-in patrons (of which I was one of). The restaurant has several tables, yet no hostess or waitstaff. You have to seat yourself. You have to walk up to the counter to place your order, and pay in advance, although one of the two women behind the counter will bring your food out to the table. And, what really blew my mind, was that even though I was dining in, they handed my coffee to me in a to-go cup! WTF? Messy's seems to do more business with take-out customers. So, Messy's, if you are not going to have full waiter service for your dine-in customers (as other reviewers have suggested, at least on weekends), then WHY bother to have all those inviting-looking tables? If you're a fan of the series "Breaking Bad," then you know what Mike says about half-measures. So, whaaaat's uuup?! I will say the two women behind the counter were pleasant, however, despite the odd system the cafe has. Okay, now the food ... I got their 'big breakfast' (not sure if that's their exact name), which included two pancakes; two eggs; two sausage patties or bacon; home fries; and toast, for the princely sum of just under $10. With coffee, my breakfast cost me about $12. Um, folks, this is West Warwick we're talking about ... ya' know ... blue collar, working class ... not East Greenwich or the East Side of Providence. For $12, breakfast had better be banging. Sadly, the only item worthy of that adjective was the pancakes, which were perfectly cooked. I ordered my eggs scrambled, and they were over-cooked (a rarity among breakfast joints), with a tell-tale brown tinge belying a too-hot grill, or bad timing on the cook's part, or both. The sausage patties had great flavor, but they, too, were overcooked (actually, almost burnt) on one side. Ironically, the home fries were the opposite of the sausage patties: perfectly cooked, but very bland. And the toast ... sorry, dude, you were redundant. I only ate one out of four pieces, since the rest of my breakfast was filling. Besides the pancakes, there was one other thing worth noting: the slice of orange as a garnish is a great touch, and rarely seen on most breakfast plates. As I stated, Messy's has potential. It's not much to look at from the outside, but it's more inviting indoors, with colors and decorations bringing life to what would otherwise be drab, dark gray tile. In the past, I have tried their famed corned beef hash (got that to go) and it is truly excellent, but the portion was very small (I guess to keep the price down - I know corned beef is expensive and shrinks a lot). I really want to like this place more and it should have no trouble garnering a 4 star rating; I guess the cook was having a rough morning during my visit. But to earn 5 stars from me, this place will have to adjust its prices to what working people can afford. Yes, the food is (usually) good, but the value is just not there. read more

Ordered breakfast Togo at 10:15 AM placed an order for the waffle, which is just, and the hash. Waitress, if that what you call them, said 20 minutes for pick up. Arrived at 10:35 to find 3 other parties waiting for food to be prepared. Grabbed a coffee for the wait. The three other parties had received the togos they ordered after they left 2 more separate take out ordered came in and received the food and left before I got mine. Finally got my take out at 11:05 AM. While waiting I noticed the two "chefs" in the back dazed and confused. Saw one half order cook wearing no gloves, gross. The other one looked like he had just woke up. Still waiting and really taking the place in, the "wait staff" don't even wait on the Costumer's while they are eating. Saw one woman had to get up and ask for a box Togo. Finally got home to eat my food. Opened up the togos to find the food was cold, only live 5 minutes away. I will never go to this place ever again. They don't deserve one star. Don't ever recommend anyone to ever eat her. Plenty of other places to go. read more

Not to be selfish; but kinda feel like this is our neighborhood place, even though we just moved to RI 6 months ago. On our first visit we were taken by the eclectic non-linear, multi-color window coverings, bright walls, crooked paintings and clean, comfy atmosphere. The food was good, home-made family style, hearty fare. Nothing fancy, not expensive, just simply good, homey, and always served with a smile. There are too many good things to say about Messy's. We just moved in down the street about two months ago and we've already been here about 25 times. It is just too good! The way they make their breakfast sandwiches is just perfect. I love the English muffins they use, nice and big. And the bacon is ALWAYS cooked to perfection as well as the egg. You won't find any fake ingredients here. I rarely get anything other than their breakfast sandwich even for lunch because it is just that good. They have wonderful weekend specials for their sandwiches and coffee combos as well. The coffee is outstanding. I forget what kind it is but it is roasted locally and it is damn tasty. I recommend the snicker doodle kind. They don't use nasty syrups either, they're just roasted that way. I usually call ahead because this isn't a Dunkin where your food is microwaved, they're actually cooking it from start to finish. But I've beer had pickup take longer than ten minutes and it is always ready when I show up. They go out of their way to say hello and remember your name. You just don't find many places like this anymore! Every once in a while I try their desserts and baked goods and they are great. The fritter is my favorite so far. OMG I am not a person to just complain.. Visited Messy's several weeks ago and was pleased. Today we brought family.. very disappointed is an understatement. We ordered, paid and were served coffee in a reasonable time.. we waited 30 minutes, watching table after table be served, eat and leave.. No food. Was told we were next and might be 10 minutes more.. After being there 45 minutes we asked for a refund. Staff asked if we wanted a refund and our food to go? I was not pleased, the place was not that busy while we were there.. I said this and staff told me.. " It was very busy when you came in, don't tell me we ate not busy". As we were leaving, another staff member chimed in with a sarcastic comment... Who uses sarcasm when dealing with upset customers.... Avoid this place..
