I really wanted to try different soft serve flavors with lots of options to choose from. We drove 30 minutes to go here (back in August) because of the over 350 flavors of soft serve that they offer. I was not disappointed when we arrived. Lots of flavors, add ons, and mix ins. I got mint chocolate chip soft serve with chocolate sprinkles. My mom got coffee soft serve with chocolate sprinkles. The mint was amazing, very strong flavor. The coffee was good too but the flavor was not as strong, it could've passed as chocolate to be honest. We had driven by here quite a few times and there was always a line. we were finally able to stop and stood in the line for about 5-10 minutes. The line moved pretty well. This place was recommended by a friend and I can see why. There's over 300 different soft serve flavors which is absolutely overwhelming in the best way. I didn't even look at the sundaes which were also numerous. I mixed Nutella & peanut butter and my husband got a lavender lemon, both on cones. I wish we were warned that they start melting instantly and there's no way to manage it. I wouldn't have ordered a cone. And it wasn't even a terribly hot day! Know before you go, bring wet wipes & cash. They're cash only. They have a few picnic tables to sit at, and there's a swing set, too. Our daughter loved being able to swing & slide after eating her (very melty) ice- cream. They lost our family's business and recommendation after this. We occasionally come here because they have some crazy flavors, however, prices have been creeping up. First trip to Eskimo King and well worth it. I kept driving by this place and finally decided to try it. They have parking for probably 40 cars and they need it because they draw quite a crowd. They have 300 flavors of soft serve and 27 flavors or hard icecream plus sherbet, frozen yogurt and sorbet. Sundaes, malts and banana splits too. I had two scoops of hard icecream in a dish (because I'm messy at times). Chocolate chip cookie dough and cookies and cream. It was creamy and not overly sugary and lots of cookie dough! The rest in our party had soft serve and they enjoyed it. The prices are pretty reasonable. 3.80 got me a medium 2 scoop dish, which was more like 3 scoops. The lines move a little slow unfortunately, but the servers were friendly, and they have a lot of variation, and toppings too. I felt like a kid again. read more

The one thing that I have had a difficult time finding in New England is a good chocolate malted milkshake. For whatever reason, nobody seems to make them taste good. I decided to give into my malt craving recently and am glad that I did. I was extremely impressed with the best chocolate malt that I have had in many years! If you are not in the mood for a malt, Eskimo King has about a million flavors and can serve it however you desire. We have set the dial to 1957 in the town of Swansea MA. The Eskimo King frozen dairy drive-in opened its doors in 1957. And was a Big Hit. People from all over would stop in to the shop at the Swansea Massachusetts location. It is located a little over an hour's ride from Boston. During the late 1960s, the store acquired its fiberglass mascot, a grinning teenaged boy holding an ice cream cone. The boy was originally an A&W Root Beer Teen Burger statue that was modified by the manufacturer, International Fiberglass. It was changed from a Burger Boy to a into its present Frosty Fiberglass Figure. The statue is outfitted with red overalls & a white shirt and a lip slacking tongue. Now during Covid times a Giant Mask has been added on too. People who follow the A&W Root Beer Family Statues will go Wild for this mascot. Eskimo King has kept the area very 50s's looking all these years with its Retro Sign, grassy area to sit down & picnic tables. There is a giant cut out that you stick your head in & snap a picture with an Eskimo King Crown on your head. The staff is helpful and friendly and prices are reasonable. While I have no complaints about the quality of the ice, there is nothing outstanding about its flavor or texture. This is an utterly solid stop for ice cream. I took other Yelpers' advice and got the hard ice cream instead of the soft serve because it's reportedly made onsite. It was an "ice cream for dinner" kind of night so I got a scoop of brownie batter and a scoop of cake batter with whipped cream and hot fudge in a waffle bowl. In hindsight, it looks like I went hard on every front. The cake batter and brownie batter were both solid. I can't seem to escape 'hard' or 'solid' in this review at any turn, it seems. The cake batter was full of full cake chunks. The brownie batter also had a really good swirl of batter with lovely brownie chunks. Neither ice cream tasted too sweet. The whipped cream was unsweetened-NICE. The hot fudge was really good. The waffle bowl was a waffle bowl. I enjoyed the ice cream a lot and it was worth the frightening onset of sudden and severe lactose intolerance behind the wheel on the drive home with a cop car blocking the exit to my place on I-95 and driving off as soon as I decided to take another exit, adding yet another clenching 15 minutes to my drive for no reason. Lactose intolerance SZN, folks! Here lies the caveat. If someone were not from the area and asked me if they should go to Eskimo King, I'd say yes. If they asked if they should go out of their way for it or if they had to go, I'd say no. It's simply good local ice cream with an immense soft serve flavor selection. There's nothing there that's particularly original, especially with the explosion of creativity on the Providence ice cream scene and nationally famous ice cream places in Boston. I know this place is a local establishment and it's been so for many years. For that reason, I don't want to really besmirch the high ratings and genuine, and I think deserved, love for a place that many people have visited their entire lives. The staff here is SO nice. The flavor varieties are epic. And the product is utterly solid (AGAIN!) to the point where I'd never object coming with the bf or friends on a nice day. As far as local joints for which people harbor a lot of nostalgia, this really does still deliver on a lot of fronts as compared to other such establishments. Located off of Route 6 in Swansea, MA, you will almost always find a very efficient line wrapping around the stand on a warm summer evening. I got the S'more's Campfire Sundae, because I couldn't resist the combo of hot fudge, graham crackers, and some delicious vanilla swirl. The good: -Very thick soft serve. Super creamy and not too sweet. -They have over 300 flavors. Anything you can think of, they have. Oreo cheesecake? They have it. Peanut butter and jelly? They have it. White chocolate cranberry truffle? Yep, that's a flavor too. The sheer amount of choice available was almost overwhelming. The bad: -I wish the environment was nicer. They had a swing set and a large rock to sit on, but there weren't any benches or other outdoor seating. We ended up standing on some grass as we ate our ice cream and finished it up in the car. The lines are long on nice nights, but move fairly quickly depending on who's serving you. If you happen to come through Swansea you need to stop in and get 1 Of the 300 flavors or 1 of the signature sundaes. The options are endless and you won't be disappointed. The parking lot is fairly small though and it does suck to pull out into traffic when you leave depending on the time of day you go. Stopped by at 9:30 tonight on our way home from dinner in Bristol. When we walked up to the window I was completely overwhelmed with the amount of soft serve flavors... It's quite difficult to drive by Eskimo King, the tacky looking plastic kid on the pole holding a ice cream cone has a strange and powerful appeal. Eskimo King claims to have over two hundred different flavors of ice cream. I've never actually counted but I do know they seem to have an endless menu. Not only hard and soft ice cream but also some sherbet, sorbet, low fat yogurt, frappes, milkshakes and various pies and cakes. You could come here for years and get something different every time. The store itself is dumpy looking but in a very quaint sort of way. Eskimo King been around since the 1960's and I have a feeling this building has been around for at least that long. No fancy chairs or decor, just the menus plastered on the outside walls, some picnic tables, the little playground in the back and of course the huge plastic, funky looking kid holding up the ice cream cone. Eskimo King is certainly not the place to go if you want some overpriced fancy frozen treat. Just great ice cream, at good prices, and endless varieties. It does get crowded in the summer and the lines can be quite long. You see people looking at all the different flavors and options and getting overwhelmed and asking a lot of dumb questions. This tends to hold things up a bit, but that's all right, it's worth the wait. After many times driving by Eskimo King during dark winter nights making various deliveries for my old job and going on Sip N Dip runs, I got to experience the glory of an Eskimo King cone. As it had never been open when I roared on by, I figured it was simply a DQ reminiscent soft serve joint. Boy, was I wrong. Pulled up fairly late into the evening on Sunday, there were 2 longs lines out of each window. A parking lot that easily was 3x the size of the building. A play ground, 2 seating areas. What exactly were we getting ourselves into, all we wanted was some soft serve! Then we see the flavor board. Over 300 flavors. And custom combos are a possibility as well. A large list of sundaes was on the wall as well, ranging from rice krispies sundaes to ones with cracker jacks, and your standard banana splits. Pumpkin Cheesecake was the choice of the evening. If you like soft serve ice cream and are looking for over 300 hundred flavors of it, then Eskimo King is your heaven. The flavors are as unique as you could imagine. Some of the flavors I saw were tequila, cheesecake flavors, mojito flavors, snickers, Reese's, chocolate-marshmallow, and fluffernutter (peanut butter and fluff). I have never been to Eskimo King before and I got there one minute before it closed. I figured the staff was going to be upset and rude with me, but they were so welcoming and very pleased to serve me. From the beginning the large list of flavors can be very overwhelming, but eventually you make your way through the list to find the flavor to satisfy your craving. Also, if you don't see anything on the list that jumps out at you, you can even make up your own combination of flavors for an extra $0.40. Eskimo King also has an extensive list of Sundae combinations you can choose from that range from a Bears in Hiding Sundae or chocolate ice cream with hot fudge, Oreo cookies, gummy bears, whipped cream, and a cherry. All the way to a Peanut Butter and Jelly Lover's Sundae. They also have 27 flavors of hard ice cream flavors. The area has its own moderate sized parking lot that is easy to get too. There are three windows to order from, which I'm sure would help during peak hours. The prices aren't too crazy a kids size which is still a good amount of ice cream is $1.95 and a medium is around $2.50, they also have larges which ran to about $3.00. Eskimo King also has three flavors of dip for your ice cream in chocolate, cherry, and caramel. These also cost extra, and there are also various topping you would find at any ice cream spot, and they have milk shakes! The ice cream flavor I chose was chocolate-marshmallow and it was very tasty. I would recommend this flavor 10/10 times.
