So pleased with this place! First I went with my children (6 and 9) I have always been afraid to take them to a high end restaurant because never sure they will enjoy or eat! As soon as we sat down the waiter told us, that they can make even burgers for them if they wanted, thankfully they opted for spaghetti and sauce, and they loved it! My meal was the Ricotta Cavatelli and it was exquisite. The taste was rich and I wanted more! Definite I would go back to this place more than once! This was a decent place to eat and try it once. Nothing special nor worth the drive to Ardsley. Much better Italian spots in lower westchester. Baked clams were actually raw with just bread crumbs. The panini was good and flavorful, but the burrata was all salad and mixed greens no burrata like maybe 3 dime size dallops, so I was disappointed. Those were the apps Then we all got pasta except one person got chick scarp. Every single plate of pasta was completely twisted into some different understanding of traditional dishes for example my carbonara was a pile of watered down spinach leaves with rigatoni.. like cool you want to be different and artsy ?? Well I want nice creamy tasty carbonara, if I wanted soupy water with spinach leaves I woulda ordered something else lol. All the other pasta dishes I tried and same thing - the sauce which is the base of all Italian food was just not good.. my fiancées dish was the seafood red sauce with black pasta and it just sucked. Chicken scarpiello lol I was hoping this was going to be good. But nah it was just ok. Half a whole Chicken cut up on top of the chicken scarp dish like really? Okay it can be cut and mixed into the sauce but when you're presented with it like this you automatically think "wow it's a half a whole Chicken.. ehh it's not really chicken scarp". Once again it's okay to be different but it just didn't work- the best dishes have their own slight twist not a complete transformation. All in all. We originally wanted to sit outside but after originally being seated outdoors we moved inside as we didn't care for the atmosphere. We ordered a whipped ricotta with honey appetizer which we really enjoyed. For dinner we ordered 3 pastas for the 2 of us too enjoy. We had the Ricotta Cavatelli the Creste di Gallo and the Black Pepper Rigatoni. We each enjoyed all 3 pastas and we ordered the half portions which was a lot of food for us. The drinks were also very good though I wished my Manhattan on the rocks came with one large ice cube instead of lots of smaller cubes. read more

I was a huge fan of L'Inizio for many years. But, I will no longer dine there. The food quality and quantity has decreased while the prices have soared, and the service is minimal. The so called "outdoor patio" reeks of cat odor to the point that it is nauseating. And, the fumes from the neighboring car repair garage only add to the disgust! In addition, the fact that they charge an extortionate amount for "holiday" dinners that you have to take home and cook yourself is ridiculous! I'd describe this spot as upscale but lowkey - one of my favorite atmospheres. Although the menu was Italian, it did not have that run of the mill generic Italian-American restaurants. We were there at opening, 5pm.. When leaving soon after 6pm, the crowd had multiplied and I'd recommend a reservation. I think it would make a great spot for a date. Lighting was dim but in an appropriate manner. The restaurant itself resembles a railroad style structure (popular apt. style in NYC), in that it consists of 3 mildly separate. Yet in addition, they had a bar area that was off to the side and near the restrooms. My date and I ordered a handful of items and we shared each... she got a white wine and I went for a pear martini. We then ordered a burrata salad, a small size of butternut squash risotto, and a simplified cheeseburger. We topped it off with 2 desserts : a trio of ice cream scoops (semifreddo?) and a red velvet bread putting that was a special. Those desserts, soooooo good!! All of the food was great. Again, it wasn't your typical everyday Italian restaurants.. the food felt elevated and we both agreed that all our food was 5 star. I wouldnt count on it, given that we were some of the first patrons at opening, but they did have a small parking lot to the immediate right of the establishment. I'm not sure the average person would notice but I really dug their soundtrack.. It was light and low volume but they played stuff like Matt and Kim! Loved that. Lastly, the service was pleasant and attentive. Overall, the dinner was well worth it and I think our total was $99 plus $20 tip. I would and will definitely return here. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Its a terrific ambience and a farm to table restaurant. We went here for Valentines Day and it did not disappoint. Been here about 5 times- with a smaller group (two people) and larger groups (6 people). Every time the menu has been different, new things added- seasonal foods made to perfection. Some staples remain on the menu such as the Ricotta drizzled with honey... can I tell you that I'm not a honey fan, but this appetizer is just incredible. I'm not telling you more bc you HAVE to go there to try it for yourself! Another dish that is not a staple is the sweet potato gnocchi with maple butter sauce- I think it's something like that... my Lord it was heaven on a plate. That was the reason we kept returning!!! Wishing it would be on the menu again... but, in place were other extraordinary dishes to explore. The people working here are gracious, as well as the chef/owner and his wife/pastry chef...who we met by chance in the restaurant during a slow time in the night. Delicious authentic Italian!!! I've been to L'inizio twice so far and I can't wait to go back. I came in for brunch on Father's Day and my family had a great dining experience. The restaurant is nice and cozy and had a great rustic feel. The brunch deal is 20.95 for 2 courses and a Bloody Mary or seasonal mimosa. Once we got settled in our server brought over some delicious freshly baked chocolate chip muffins. One bite and I knew this place was legit. I started out with the Hudson valley burrata crostini with bacon, honey, pea leaves and truffle butter. The burrata was delicious and bacon was nice and crispy and the truffle butter was like the icing on the cake. For my main dish I got the fried egg over octopus which was great as well. The grand finale was the bomboloni, WOW. One of the best desserts I've ever had. A few weeks ago I finally made it back for dinner. I came in on a Tuesday and much to my delight our waiter informed us there's a $30 3 course meal and wine bottles are 1/2 off on Tuesdays! I started out with the squash blossom which was so good! perfectly friend and the mustard aioli was a great sauce. Main course I went with the black pappardelle w/chorizo. Pasta was cooked perfectly and just full of flavor. I finished up my meal with the semifreddo, not as good as the bomboloni but still delicious. We ordered Linizio for Thanksgiving and were pleasantly surprised by all aspects of the meal. Ordering was easy (over the phone), and pickup was a breeze. I pulled up and within 60 seconds the team put the food in my trunk contact free. We received an instruction sheet for how to reheat and even provided a meat thermometer. They say it feeds 4-6, but it can feed so much more than that. And the food was delicious. The turkey was very flavorful, and the brussel sprouts were just the right level of crispiness. The sweet potatoes and marshmallow were a family favorite. We're already planning our next Thanksgiving and know exactly where to go! read more

We had a great evening at L'inizio. The restaurant is a logistical challenge- it's right by the cul de sac in Ardsley and parking is non-existent. I abandoned my car in a parking lot across the street, next to a temporary fence. The space is eccentric. It's narrow and long. We had the first table on the right as you enter, and it's a tight fit. The space is cute, but is all wood and very acoustically reflective. It was very loud, especially with the table of four Rodney Dangerfield clones hee-hawing at the top of their lungs next to us. Service was earnest, but uneven. The hostess was on top of things in the dining room, checking in with everybody periodically. We were served a nice combination of bread and breadsticks on being seated. I had been craving a Negroni for some reason. Lo and behold, a Negroni was one of the drink specials and it was excellent. My friend loved his sausage appetizer. I got and loved the octopus, although I always feel a pang of guilt when I eat it. This is one of the few restaurants where the main courses hold their own against the appetizers. The chef accomodated my wife's request for for no squid in a squid and shrimp combination that she really liked. My friends really liked their steak and roasted chicken. The halibut was excellent. It was delicious and interestingly flavored without being too over the top. Desserts were outstanding. The bread pudding was very good, but the Italian doughnuts were a top 10 dessert. The only lapse in the meal was the watery cappuccino. Great restaurant with a different flavor profile than other Italians in Westchester. The place has the potential to be 5 stars. Terrible customer service. And I always support small businesses. They blocked me because I didn't like that they did not respond to me privately. The below is the exchange. Their solution was I'm sorry and yes you will get credit for your husband not having a meal if you don't want to come back And pick up his meal. Throughout the pandemic I have been supportive. Perhaps they could have said next time you come we would like to give you a complimentary glass of wine. I spent 300 dollars and even tipped since it was before I received my orders. They are by far the worst customer service when you complain. They only like to hear the good things and choose to block you on social media. They could not have the decency to reply to me privately when I sent it to them and when I put it on google review they did. Not sure how everyone feels, but we pride ourselves in customer service. This to me is the worst example. 3 weeks ago I ordered 3 dinners on Valentine's Day at 230 pm on Valentine's Day. My order was confirmed at 553 pm. I was told to pick up at 640 instead of the 6:30 I requested becUse you have a lot of orders. Frankly I was not even sure if you actually had my order until I called to confirm. I promptly received my order. However when we got home one of the main meals was not there. I came from tarrytown and when I called david said sorry we can pick it up or just get credited for the entree. I was upset by the situation but my husband said to pick it up. When we got there we did get our dinner. David said he was the manager and I simply said that we have been trying to support small businesses but I just can't believe he didn't offer to At least comp the entree we received. Considering we had to drive back to tarrytown. I'm highly disappointed with this action. David did not try to do anything to alleviate the situation. By the time we came home the rest of our meals were cold. Sadly while we love your food as I have eaten there frequently when i dined indoors I don't think I can come back due to his lack of customer service. My first dining experience since the Pandemic began so glad we chose to dine here! We started with drinks from the drink menu I really enjoy a good Manhattan and this one did not disappoint. My wife and I shared the octopus appetizer and the crispy Cauliflower appetizer the use of sauces and spices where a shear marvel for the taste buds highly recommended by our waiter. My entree was the Pork Tenderloin with escarole the meat was as soft as butter cook to perfection and once again Chef Scott did not disappoint with an outstanding sauce for this entree. I have been driving by this restaurant for a while and finally decided to grab a bite and I am SO glad I did!! This place has a smaller menu, but it is far from your traditional Italian! Creative, fresh, cooked with love and pride, (yes, you know it when you have it) and a lovely trattoria type atmosphere. My friend and I ordered a few apps and an entree and all were SUPERB! You can def tell the chef and this establishment hold itself to a higher standard without being pretentious. This is a little gem located on Saw Mill in Ardsley. What a find! The service was stellar and the food was innovative Italian. We started with the grilled octopus salad with favs beans, apples and capers. The combination of flavors was divine. Our pasta dishes were flavorful and a perfect size at the half portion. The ambiance was perfect-tea candles in mason jars, restored bead board and artwork of vegetables along the walls. The cool colors and music made it a perfect place to unwind and enjoy. This restaurant is four years old and has won awards for top new restaurant (2015) and top Italian on Open Table. Impressive food, service and dining experience. Great spot! read more

Amazing!!! Everything we ordered (and we tried several dishes because the menu is hard to resist!) was delicious. The salads were crunchy, fresh perfection. The flavors paired with the creamy burrata--fava beans and thinly sliced pickled celery--were a delicious explosion. The sauces on our pastas were out of this world. Even the basic marinara was like tomato velvet. The chicken parm was perfection, the meat sauce was out of this world. We unequivocally enjoyed everything we tried, and can't wait to go back. If I could give this place a zero I would for the horrible service we received last night. We eat out very often so I'm always looking for new restaurants to try and I found this restaurant so I made reservations. Once we arrived we ordered drinks and waited a while and even got our drinks before one of the waiters came by "finally" with a basket and put "one slice of bread" on each plate. We ordered the 18 month old prosciutto di Parma which was excellent and the Cauliflower Rice and Quinoa salad which we didn't really care for. For our main course I ordered the market steak which was a NY strip and it was cooked as I asked , medium but the meat was a little a tough, my husband ordered the Sweet potato gnocchi which was ok, still none of the dishes had a wow factor. Now my mother in law got the "Chicken Scapariello"and my father in law another pasta dish. So we all started eating, when my mother in laws pulls a long hair out of her mouth, we were all disgusted and choked that this happened, totally not expecting that something like this would happened in a fancier restaurant (all the dishes run about 29 and up). Now her dinner was ruined. We called the waiter who came and my mother in law gave him the hair to see if he can check in the kitchen maybe someone that needs to tighten their hair. And he took the plate with him, then another waiter came in who I believe was the manager and apologized and offered to remove her dish from the check and he asked if he could get her something else, my other in law ordered another Chicken Scapariello but her experience was ruined already but anyway she waited for her dish and it arrived cold which was probably the same chicken she had gotten before with the hair. We get the check and "they never removed" her dish. The waiter said that it was removed and then added back on. Then the hostess who is the "owner" comes rudely and says to us that we still ordered another the chicken and we ate it, it doesn't matter that our experience was ruined and that the waiter offer to remove it as a remedy for what just happened. Which is what any restaurant would do and specially this overpriced restaurant. I had higher expectations. The owner went on to tell us that they have a restaurant in NYC and they are very successful. This nice person that greeted us suddenly became an irrational human being that had the audacity to tell us that we still ate and we shouldn't expect to get anything for free. It's not about the $29 overpriced chicken dish, we have no problem spending and paying for it, it's the principle and that's not how you treat customers. read more

In short, a very disappointing dinner. When the wine (at $10.00 a glass) was delivered at a minimal pour, we should have realized what was to come. We ordered appetizers as a first course - I ordered the grilled octopus, the wife - chicken liver pate. Both were meager servings. The grilled octopus was really a cold octopus salad - slices of (admittedly tender) octopus served over a bed of hummus. I did find several slivers of one Castelvetrano olive (the dish promised olives - plural) with some pickled non descript vegetables. I did expect grilled octopus as the menu stated and I thought that meant hot. The pate was served on three slices of crostini that looked lost on the service plate. To say it was a pate is overly generous. it was barely noticeable on the bread - a bare "whisper" of a coating. The little bit that was there was flavorful - too bad it was so sparse. On to the main course. I chose the Branzino dish off the menu. A generous portion of the fish, well cooked, tender and flavorful. A hit! The wife opted for the pasta special (wild boar ragu). We actually thought she was served the "half portion" that is available on the menu. "No, this is the full portion" confirmed the server. It was greasy and seemed to be chopped up spaghetti in the bowl. The plate did not appear appetizing and you could not tell what it was. There was no taste of the "wild boar ragu" either The score - one dish successful out of the four tasted? Not a great score. What's most interesting is that there are many quite positive reviews here. Was it an "off night" Friday? Maybe. We will not return to find out. read more

My boyfriend and I had dinner at the restaurant recently. The food and service were quite good. However, they seated us in a table an inch -- not an exaggeration -- from the door to the rest rooms, etc. All night long, people were going in and out. I was hoping for a relaxing night out after a busy week, but being constantly disturbed by the comings and going made relaxation impossible. I understand the economics of getting rid of a table, but come on... I doubt very much that we will return. read more

Solid food, great service, love this place. Parking, finding it, navigating the weirdness of where its located, all suck, but once you get there you'll always go back. I've had the pleasure of dining here a number of times since they opened and just realized that I forgot to give this place it's much deserved "props." Being a bit generous here, as it was really more 3.5. In general, the place is a nice, sophisticated environment with very good but at times uneven food. The front of the house (such as it is, as it's a super tiny/cramped area in the front of the restaurant) was wonderful, super patient with us as we were running late and then searched for parking. On that note, if you are coming on a weekend, I'd encourage you to leave early because there is really no parking available and it's a 1/2 block from a crazy 5 block intersection that is completely discombobulating. In fact, L'inizio should go out of their way to let customers know this is the case, because I was already pretty frustrated before we were even sat. Another issue is the room itself. It's small, and they are expanding (which is a good thing, shows they are popular) but the current set up of the room, at least the back room, is not set up in a logical way. Tables are two wide and consequently everyone is on top of each other. Servers literally can't get to you to serve you water or bus tables. They should consult with an interior designer quickly to fix this. The music was also way off and we had the unfortunate luck of sitting next to an arguing couple for the majority of our meal. Ok, so a lot of strikes so far, but the staff was positive and the food was mostly excellent. We had three appetizers, the baked clams, the chicken liver pate and the smoked ricotta and honey. The latter two were exceptional...two of the better appetizers I've had all year. Must order on both. The clams on the other hand were a miss...bready and undercooked. Decent sauce, but didn't make up for it. On another note, again due to ergonomics of the room, it took forever for us to get bread and when it was served it was cold. Easy thing to fix. The two pasta dishes were both very good, but the smaller portion is indeed quite small. We had the Amatriciana and the wild mushroom Fettuccine, with the latter being the superior dish. We finished off with a nice cappuccino and perhaps the best dish of the evening... Bomboloni "Italian Doughnuts". Unreal, not too heavy not overly sweet. Perfect dessert. So L'inizio gets a recommend from us, but can do some easy things to make the experience even better. read more

If there was a negative star option, that's what I would give. Friday night at 7:30pm. My wife and I were greeted by hostess and brought to infamous Table 41, a table so bad both the hostess and waiter nervously joked about how bad it was to sit at that table, which: blocked the fire door, had parking lot flood lights shining in and my wife sat shoulder to shoulder with the fire extinguisher attached to the wall. Oh well, it was date night and we brought a bottle of Gaja wine with us, so we soldiered on. The waiter brought four sad and oddly cut pieces of bread to the table. We ordered chicken liver pate on crostini and rigatoni carbonara for apps. The pasta was INEDIBLE. Served cold (not on purpose) the egg yolk in the sauce was scrambled, the pancetta was uncooked and the spinach wasn't wilted but instead thrown into the mix raw, it was sent back. The crostini were luckily served on parchment paper, lucky because they were dripping with grease. For entrees we picked braised beef puttanesca and chicken scapariello. The completely bland and unsalted beef dish was bereft of the puttanesca promise, but wasn't offensive. The (again) unsalted chicken lump sat atop a mound of greens. Those veggies were flash cooked in something other than olive oil (vegetable oil?) and were burned, not charred. There was one half of one slice of sausage on the plate, five fingerling potatoes that were par cooked leaning towards hard and a unseasoned sauce that had no taste of cherry peppers. We both pushed our forks around the beef dish but neither of us had the courage to go on with the chicken disaster. We immediately asked for the check. We were told the pasta was taken off the bill. We tipped 30% and walked out. The manager followed us outside and asked what went wrong. We informed him of all that happenned. Both my wife and I had worked in restaurants before and we didn't believe his insulting excuse that they were having a problem with one line cook who must've made the two most offensive dishes, the pasta and chicken. Please. The chef was in the bar schmoozing a few friends, maybe that was the problem. I would never, never go back. Luck for us we were able to get a decent burger on the way home. read more

PEI muscles, baked clams (what a beautiful yummy way to eat these little bad boys).. hmm what else.. beautifully done fresh fish..oh amoungst the other plates I was way engaged with my roasted cauliflower puree to notice anything else but that duck breast and its jewel like berry gems sitting ontop and next to it...and I was last to finish, all because I wanted it to continue.hehe. The staff is pleasant, personality and positive vibes ..and what can I say..when the chef comes out to check up on you to see how your meal is..Well...says this guy and his staff are doing it right, awesomely right. Tables desert choices were all over the menu map, (was so nice to have the ability to pick from other peoples plates..esp. if they decided to share..lol) I picked the strawberry rhubarb..with vanilla ..bang bang! Tart party in the mouth..Chocolate torte, the cookie platter, and others, (forgot to mention last time I had the cheesecake in a jar..what fun!) I am thrilled that we finally have a gourmet restaurant in Ardsley. The dining room is small and quaint!! We started with the Special cocktail of the day which was very tasty and fresh! Our waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We all ordered our appetizers I had the clams and although the sauce was amazing there were only 4 small clams-- really?? Definitely MORE sauce then clams I tried not to eat the bread but I had to and dunked in the sauce because I was hungry :( My husband ordered the salad it too was delicious but small. Our friends ordered the Burrata which was tasty and fresh. Unfortunately, nothing was sharable which I enjoy doing..... The Wine list was extremely limited and the least expensive bottle was $45.00+ When it came to the wine selection, the third tasting proved to be a charm as the first two bottles had to be returned. We had the one Spanish wine on the list which was good. For our dinner entrees, I had the striped bass; it was cooked to perfection very tasty but the fish portion was the size of a small stack of credit cards. My husbands fish had a small amount of clams a small piece of bass and was salty, our friends ordered the ricotta pasta was mediocre and portion was the size of appetizer 1/2 portion size come on!!?? The bargain of the evening was the desserts they were interesting, creative yummy at approx $5.00 a piece ... My overall impression is that this was a nice dining experience but it's expensive...dinner for four with drinks and wine will run around $400...for that kind of money...they are going to have to step it up a bit...either give you a little more portion size or throw in after dinner drinks or do something to get people to be repeat customers...personally, I want to see this place do well because it really is unique and the food is really very good...I'll give them another chance in a few weeks...and we'll see what happens read more

A real restaurant that uses real farm fresh ingredients and prepares insanely delicious dishes. House-made pastas, ricotta, etc. A true farm-to-table restaurant that I would compare to the liking of a Restaurant North, Arethusa al Tavolo, Community Table, etc. We will definitely make this a regular stop. Dinner at L'inizio last night was fabulous. We started with the baked clams and the smoked ricotta and they were great. For entrees we had the ricotta cavatelli, the chicken scarpariello and the halibut and all were outstanding. I cannot wait to go back again. read more
