Tried to make a takeout purchase last night, where they've taken card for years, and was informed that they would be cash only... which would be totally cool, except for that their ATM was out of service (as a note, usually when their ATM is down, they accept card). So... I asked the carry out person on the phone where they would recommend getting cash out and she told me she doesn't know but they're giving me plenty of time to figure it out on my own before getting there and that this is how it's always been and I could either place my order or go somewhere else. I was honestly shocked by the hostility that this "host" was throwing at me. I live two doors away... I eat here once a week... I will NEVER be coming back again. Please train your FOH staff how to talk to customers. She essentially yelled at me and told me to take my business elsewhere when I asked for help. read more

The layout is a little different, and you order at the front counter, which is then out of sight when you sit down. They did not get my order correct, and I just did not feel like asking them to correct it. My search for the perfect Carne Asada taco continues. read more

This place is OK. There are tons of places to get tacos of various levels from basic to fancy in the city. L Patron falls in the basic, though the price they charge and the temperament of the workers are high up there. We have been here a handful of times bc the elote and guac are good. But to charge $8 for a taco and $10 for a burrito seems step to me. Plus none of it comes with any sides. read more

The arrechera meat is like nothing you've ever had in a tortilla before. This is not an exaggeration. Flavorful, juicy and grilled to perfection. I ordered this, "sin nada," "plain" because that's the real taste test. Nothing else matters. Nothing else gives or takes away. Sprinkle some salt, a dab of lime juice, a dab of chile and the meat speaks for itself! Mmm! This is the number one taco to order here. Numero Uno! Second place taco to order here is the Pastor Taco. I typically don't order pastor bc at most places I know I'll be disappointed. Totally not the case here and the pastor lives up to its reputation. I'd def like to see some pineapple chunks in there next time because I didn't have any in mine. Third place taco is the Pescado Taco! You can tell they take their time battering it in high quality batter and then fry it to perfection. Light, crispy, and super fresh fish! Creama, tomate, lechuga! Your better off eating this taco before it gets too cold! By now, I was feelin like a little Gordita and my tummy couldn't handle anything more! 3 Tacos is plenty! Don't miss out on the fresh guac. L'patron never disappoints.. tacos are consistently great. The guacamole topped with cranberries is a must, and the tostados are great as well (We like shrimp, with cojita and pickled red onion). We used to go when we lived in the neighborhood and now make the drive.. worth it every time. I became a fan of L'Patron at their old Diversey location and fortunately the food hasn't changed at their Fullerton location. The space has definitely been upgraded and they also now have an outside patio. Still cash only and it's BYOB. You order in line then have a seat and they call your name on the loudspeaker. Their tacos are definitely some of the very best I've ever had and most are still less than $3. I continue to find it impossible to stray from their tacos to other menu items because they're just so darned delicious. I've tried them all and the Al Pastor marinated pork with pineapple, onions and cilantro is still my favorite with the Carne Asada a close second. After hearing my friend rave about their fish taco the other night, I guess I need to revisit that one, too. They come wrapped in paper with twisted ends to help hold them together but you'll likely still end up happily licking your sticky fingers! The guacamole and salsa with their homemade chips are not to be missed. They are a tad pricier than some others but once you taste all the quality ingredients, you understand why. Both are good sized servings and absolutely delicious. Their side sauces are also great and pretty spicy. Don't be fooled into thinking that the green ones aren't hot, particularly the neon green one - it's killer!! I do miss the atmosphere of the old place with the bumping music in the tiny space that always made me feel like I was actually in Mexico. The new place on Fullerton is pretty great, too. read more

This place changed so much from the old location. The presentation is still there but I was really disappointed in the food. The green salsa that I used to love, tastes like mold. I don't know how else to explain it but it tastes disgusting. The steak that I once called the best cut of meat in Chicago...now tough and chewy and tasting really funny. The fish tacos, very good but again some strange ingredient in the sauce that tastes like mold. I don't know what it is but it's overpowering. All this makes their usual customer service antics unacceptable. The super slow cook time. Cash only and then a credit card machine that magically appears when the ATM machine breaks. I even called ahead to place my order. They did advise it would be 15-20 minutes but for TWO TACOS?! Come on now. But it ended up being 30+ minutes. Not to mention the steak was poorly seasoned and did not taste all that great as it used to. Every time I call I'm immediately just placed on a hold. No greeting or nothing. But I can say that if these aren't the best, for my taste, they are damn close. Amazing. We started going to L'Patron at their old location on Diversey which had a unique atmosphere to say the least. Since they moved, they certainly have upgraded the space, added some items and increased serving capacity all without changing the food quality. It's superb. I was looking for the best Steak Tacos in the city and a friend of mine recommended this place. I can say their tacos are good and better than Big Star. Ambiance this place is small but has a relaxed vibe to it. There isn't any music that is played but there is a small amount of space between the tables. I always end up ordering to go but I enjoy walking in. Staff this place has the most amazing staff ever. I ussualy stop by once or twice a week but when I want to try something different they are always generous with the samples. Not sure how this place can stay open with so many better taquerias in the area. I ordered two steak burritos when I arrived - took the cooks 25 minutes to prepare these and the place was nearly empty. Also I felt they were extremely overpriced for the quantity- def did not over eat. And I had to cook them when I got back home - they were u w cold and the tortilla was cold and soft. My cousin recommended this place so I decided to give it a try. There isn't a parking lot so you'll have to circle to find street parking, after all, it's on Fullerton. The decor is cute and very festive. The menu is on the wall and you can view it as you wait in line. The tacos are over priced in my opinion I mean $2.89 for one steak taco? No beans no rice just the taco! The tacos were grilled which I love but they weren't hot they were warm which means they were sitting and waiting. I asked for avocado on the tacos and the weren't cheap with the serving or the price. I love horchata and they make some awesome horchata but overall the meal was good but not spectacular. Over $3 for a taco, 89 cents for a sliver of avocado, 69 cents for a pinch of cheese, and 49 cents for a dash of sour cream made this a five dollar chorizo taco. the burrito was underwhelming for $8, it had an incredible amount of lettuce to fill it. This is the best Mexican food truck in the city of Chicago. If I can give this rating a million stars I would! The steak Is full of flavor and tender. The shrimp tacos are the best I've ever tasted. Their bottled drinks Horchata and lime juice are amazing! They even have a good variety of soda like grape and orange which are hard to find.
