Discovered La Baia by accident while in White Rock. We were beyond highly impressed and will most definitely go back! When you enter the restaurant you might find it a bit quirky (the colour scheme and decor), but do not let this deter you from their outstanding food and quality of service! Within a minute or two of being seated, our waiter (he could have been the manager he was very professional), first brought us water and delightful warm Italian bread with amazing olive oil. Shortly after, our waiter then reviewed the specials and suggested the grilled octopus as a starter to share between the two of us. WOW, this was truly the best grilled octopus we have ever had! The dish was grilled to absolute perfection and the seasoning flavours were delightful. It was an adequate portion to share and would have been enough as a solo main dish for one. For mains we ordered the seafood lasagna and the chicken parmesan. The seafood lasagna was superb. Filled with a wonderful cream sauce and lots of fresh seafood, every bite was divine. The portion was large and almost enough for two. The chicken parmesan was amazing (also one of the best we have had), served with al dente fresh vegies and again, could have been a portion size for two. We both took leftovers home for lunch and they were great. Dining at this "hidden gem" was a wonderful experience! La Baia restaurant is a old fashion Italian restaurant located right by the seaboard. Location us beautiful right by a major road. The ambiance is old fashion but relaxing. I ordered the pasta primavera with the red sauce. Quite good with a slight kick for 16.95. I ordered the house red as well. Overall this restaurant is a bit old fashion but decent. In an endearing way, this is a hole in the wall Italian restaurant. Dated decor, but warm mom n pop feel. There's some off street parking. Our server David was friendly and enthusiastic to serve us. My friend and I shared a 0.5L house white Chardonnay and casear salad. I ordered the seafood linguini. Good marinara and largely portioned. And for dessert we shared a slice of the tiramisu cheesecake which is homemade by the chef's wife...delicious! Flavorful and decadent. The only feedback I have is for handling of allergies. I'm a big advocate for the customer to really make it clear to staff that you have an allergy, but servers are human too and I would monitor handling techniques since the effects of poor handling can be fatal. The restaurant staff made an effort and responded well to constructive feedback, but in the days of modified diets and health conditions, this area can always use more attention and diligence. read more

I am easy to please, but if I am made to wait for an hour to get a not-so-worth it meal, then for the first time I will rate you the lowest. You have reservation options via Open Table, if you really want to serve your customers, you would only take in what you can serve and nothing more. The only thing pleasant about this resto are the servers, 2 female servers, very good customer service. I think the owner was there too but for some reason he talked to everyone but us, maybe selective? But anyways, we tried it but for sure we won't be back. If you have time to kill, then go here. But if you're tired from work and would love to unwind and enjoy a meal on time, walk along Marine Drive and there are other decent restos there, like Washington Avenue, Aljebires etc..worth your time and hear earned money :) read more

This is a great little Italian place that my husband and I go to every now and then! Right across from the beach in White Rock the location is quite lovely for a romantic dinner and stroll on the beach! The service is very good...attentive to all the details that make for a special evening out! Enjoyed sharing a bottle of wine together while we dined on fresh bread and pasta! The Fettuccine Alfredo was very good! My husband enjoyed the Lasagna! The decor is slightly outdated but we still enjoy the cozy, candle lit atmosphere. This was a very disappointing night for us all food wise. I am giving 1 star due to the excellent service because our waiter was very kind & polite. The food was not good at all. The pasta was not fresh as you would expect an Italian pasta to be made. The owner is such a nice guy but the food:( The clientele are all over 60, so if you are over 60- this is your place to eat. Wow. Impressed. Great service. Nice place, good honest cooking and attentive service. The wine selection is fairly good for a small place like this. We were a bit concerned as it was empty when we arrived and the decor and exterior looked dated. We got there just before 6 pm on a Saturday night. By 6:30 it was packed. Using the entertainment coupon was not a problem and the attention to service was wonderful the entire time we were there. This was a very nice surprise. I moved to White Rock over a year ago and I'm sad that I waited this long to try this place. I had a craving for spaghetti bolognese and was totally satisfied with the price, quality and portions. I also picked up the spinach salad, which is simple but delicious. I was a bit wary at first of the giant slices of onion, but they used the right kind of onion (the kind that is mild and sweet when eaten raw). I was also given a hefty slice of French bread to go with it. The food is spectacular, but what's even better is the service, which was incredibly friendly and accommodating. I could tell it was well run by the calm, efficient demeanour of the staff. I had takeout and they gave me a cardboard tray to carry it in. I felt their customer treatment was above and beyond the kind you can normally expect these days. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu. read more

On Sunday La Baia offers a fixed price dinner for four. You can choose between a vegetarian, meat or seafood meal. We chose the meat and were not disappointed. Located just off White Rock Beach's strip, La Baia is definately a jewel. A cozy Italian eatery I have been here many times over the years for various celebrations. Two things will always knock off your socks - the service is phenomenal and the food is phenomenal. I went a few weeks back, my first time since going gluten free and was nervous about being able to eat off the menu (I usually stuck with the gnocchi). Although not eating seafood/fish and wheat limited my choices I still was left with menu items - plus the waiter let me know that they could modify meat dishes I liked. Swoon! I had a delicious chicken dish with yummy veggies on the side. Accompanied by some fantastic wine no less. And to make the meal complete - chocolate mousse for dessert (which was so good my brother in law ordered some up as well). I would definately recommend it! read more

This place is really cute and old-school italian. The prices are quite reasonable although the pasta was not made fresh there. The wait staff was attentive and kind, as long as you had your order straight. The house wine was probably the best that I've ever ordered for both red and white. The steak tenderloin was cooked to perfection and every sauce was great. The tiramisu was awesome. The only reason this place didn't get four stars is because the decor needs to be updated. It really is around a 3.5 star type of place. Then again, we were the youngest people in the place, so I guess we weren't their target market as far as decor is a concern. We were here on business in Vancouver, Canada for just one night and feel so fortunate to have found this wonderful restaurant after a very long day. We drove here from California and just wanted to relax and have a good meal---we definitely found that here!!! La Baia is our favourite Italian restaurant. We just got back from a 30 day trip thru Italy and found a few good Italian restaurants but only a couple as good as La Baia! We highly recommend their veal frangellico, Marco Polo steak, Salmon La Baia and the Lasagna - none better anywhere! The owner, Pierre is delightful as are all his staff who have been there for many years. The house wine - red or white is an excellent Italian wine and good value. When there is a special event in our family we almost always choose to go to La Baia to celebrate. You won't regret your visit! Enjoy! read more

While most (5 of 7) of our dinners were very good, it took over an hour and a half to be served. I would understand if they were busy but....not so much. If you come, the gnocchi is amazing. AVOID!! Our server was an old woman (late 60s-70s?) with long blonde hair and glasses. She clearly needs to go back to take some courses on customer service 101. My bf and I ordered one bottle of white wine, meat charcuterie board and seafood canneloni. When the charcuterie board came, she just plopped the board onto the table, and did not offer to ask us whether we would like some more bread (our bread basket was empty, and we had no problems of paying for extra bread). When we received the canneloni, it was beef and NOT SEAFOOD. I flagged down the waitress and she asked me, "Are you sure?". I said yes, and I cut apart the canneloni to show her that it was beef. She then became defensive and said that she had punch in seafood in the ordering system and told us that she would ask the kitchen to see if it was their mistake. She was unapologetic about the whole situation and disappeared for 10 mins. She came back and she said she checked with the kitchen and that they didn't make a mistake. She then stated, "Oh well, I can't do anything about it now!". My bf and I were shocked by her response. She then quickly changed the subject and said, "well what do you want? You want dessert?". We ordered 2 tiramisus and 2 coffees. I guess we are so used to going to restaurants with good service, that we assumed that she would comp the dessert since the restaurant made a mistake on our pasta dish and she didn't own up to the mistake.  But instead, she charged us for everything and we handed her a gift card, which was an old school paper gift card. We gave her the gift card and told her we would put the rest on debit.  She disappeared for another 10 mins and came back and told us that she could only put the $100 gift card through and that the debit machine was down. So my bf went next door to the convenience store to get her the cash. What appalling service, for mediocre so-called Itaian food, that is not even worth your time or money. No wonder this place was only half filled on a Friday night.  PS their bathroom floors are so grossly sticky! read more

Walked by the restaurant many times and it looked so charming. But I got a takout meal they call Clams and Shrimp Linguine. It had few clams and 2 shrimps! You can't call it clams and shrimps with so few clams and shrimps! It was supposed to be a wine sauce but it was basicallly tasteless. The owner was on the phone with a dissaitsfied customer and ignored me the whole time. I paid and walked out. Opened the door again to say "by the way, you're welcome", and he said thank you. I give him credit for coming out after me and apologizing butI won't be going back for the food. read more

Worst Italian restaurant I've ever been to! The restaurant is small and lack the Italian ambience an Italian restaurant might be expected to have. The whole restaurant is filled with Chinese decor. The food is the worst...we ordered the daily special...mussels. The mussels arrived lukewarm and tasted very "fishy". (We've had cooked and raw seafood often but never had anything so fishy.). We've spoken with the waiter and was given another "special" of the night. (My husband ended having a bad stomachache and diarrhea that ended our date night early.). Our $20 main entrees consisted of very small portions. My veal looked nothing like the Italian veal dishes and tasted very dry. Instead, they resembled of Chinese pork slices from Chinese dishes. The service was very slow for such a small restaurant. I'd recommend many other Italian restaurants and would never return to this restaurant. It's not worth the money for the poor food quality, small portion, lack of authenticity and slow service! read more

I had the steak and spaghetti which was very flavourful and tasty and had the tiramisu for dessert . I've had tiramisu many times, but this was the best by far I've ever had. I will go again soon to try another pasta dish and more dessert. It's reassuring that I can put my trust in a team of professionals. They really know their stuff! Worst service I've ever experienced. Came here with my boyfriend for my 18th birthday dinner and was sat and then ignored for the first 20 minutes. We were eventually served some waters after that yet still no offer for drinks. Next we sat for about 45 more minutes before we were asked to order-still no offer for drinks. I must add they were not very busy so did not make sense since the table who sat just before us was receiving excellent service and not us. When our food finally arrived we had to ask for our drink order to be taken and received the smallest glasses of iced tea filled to the top with ice. It was about 3 sips. When we asked for refills, we were told there's a charge because "this is Canada". We were checked on once very briefly. Once finished we sat for about 20 minutes waiting for someone to take our plates. Another girl working noticed we had been sitting there for a while and came to help us and brought us the bill. Once that had arrived our server finally had an interest in us, of course. Short old man who figured since we were young we didn't deserve good service. Was recommended this place and did notice when we first went in that it was like something from 1981 and had never changed since but seems the place was busy we thought that maybe it was just great food that had kept people coming back. Our service was slow and the starters were just ok. All served on old fashioned low quality plates and glasses. When my husband asked for the Basa fish but asked if all of the fresh is fresh? The waiter advised that it is all frozen therefore he didnt go with that option. When out meal EVENTUALLY arrived my husband was offered parmasean cheese and said he didnt want any the waiter proceeds to tell him "he must be crazy!!!!" The main course was bland tasteless, frozen fish, my husbands pasta was dry and had teeny tiny shrimp in it. He didnt even eat it - infact neither of us did. When the waiter came back i told him "we really didnt like the food - his reply was "Okay, I'll get you the bill!" No questions as to what we didnt like, if there was anything he could do and he went on to bill me for the full amount. Absolutely terrible service, dated place, dreadful food. No it was my friends desert with a candle in it. When we asked about it the owner was very rude and short about it also the chairs have basically no padding on supposedly padded seats. very uncomfortable the tablecloth was dirty with dried pasta stuck on it. This restaurant is well located on busy Marine Drive. (Actually all the businesses are separated from the water by a street, narrow parking lots and a railroad). It has parking, something in very short supply in this long restaurant row. It's a big step up from the ubiquitous taverns and take-out joints. The owner was present and stopped by our table twice. Kelly, our waitress, was wonderful and very friendly. (We purposely engaged her in conversation). We shared a Caesar salad which was pretty small for $9.50. The sausage with fettuccini was perfect and my veal dish was very good as well. We shared a terrific dense chocolate cake. The only negative was the bread which was pretty much balloon bread rather than the artisan style that an Italian restaurant should have. I mentioned this to the owner. We'd return. read more

We just returned from dinner at La Baia. The restaurant accepts reservations, but I had not made any. Luckily, there was one table available, so we got seated. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable, but maybe not as available as I would like (though it is still better than a waiter who is overbearing). With limited Yelp reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. Upon arrival, most of the patrons were locals of retiree age, which made me feel secure about the quality and prices. I wasn't disappointed. Perhaps the local vibe and slow pace are normal for this area, but I was a little bit pressed for time and waited 10 minutes to receive my check plus almost as long to have it processed. I have no problem with the antiquated décor, as the establishment was clean. Five stars requires exceptional ratings in all categories. I would consider this to be 4.4 out of 5, so definitely worth trying! read more
