Oh my goodness! My friend. Imi & I stopped in to this adorable restaurant to pick up carry out. We discovered the Mexican store in the back & purchased some lightly sweet dessert to go with our nachos and Chimichangas. Our food was so good! The green sauce and hot sauce were delish! The first time I'd ever eaten here it was fantastic. In the past year it has went very down hill. The past few times I've eaten their tamales they have been horrible and I'm not over exaggerating in the slightest. They've become small hard rocks at this point. I decided to just go with something else from the menu, the ACP, it's a classic right? well somehow they've managed to do away with the quality of this dish as well, the rice over cooked and just plain sad, the chicken rubbery and at this point I don't even think it's real chicken. I am very upset with how this place has down graded I used to love it! The only good thing about this place are the servers always so nice and kind. I just think they need to have the owner come in and see how the food is served and maybe just maybe they will see the food is just unbearable. read more

I'll have to give my review here a little less than I would like. I love to support local Hispanic food and restaurants, and I will say my visit here missed the mark. I saw what was advertised on the menu as a "California taco" plate, which immediately caught my attention, it was described to be served with pico, cilantro, onion if im not mistaken What I got was a cheap cut of steak, that had seasoning but didn't taste like "carne Asada" , coved with shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomato... I was so disappointed when I got home, I still ate them which I won't tell you the were terrible or the worst I've ever had, but I don't feel we're not advertised properly and definitely did not live up to my expectations personally. Food was hot, the lady that took my order was extremely nice, and the food came out promptly which was perfect being i only have a short lunch break as well. I'll be coming back to give them another try and hopefully update this review, if not I'd love to have the owners or managers maybe reach out and we can discuss some things further about how to improve their menu while maintaining quality product and keeping cost low for them if they are ever interested. read more

Went there today and was pretty disappointed - the food was fairly low quality - meat had much grizzle and was not tasty. Salsa was served in tiny Dixie cup - waitress brought me several and a salsa bowl - that said they would have been better to buy salsa at the grocery across the street - it was not good. When moving to Swannanoa we were nervous that we wouldn't be able to find delicious food like we did in Asheville. La Bamba has changed our minds! We love the dishes we have tried, the prices for what you get, and the friendly service. It is rare to find people who take the time to explain menu items without hurrying you or seeming frustrated. The employees here are top notch. We have only experienced them to-go so far but plan to dine in soon. The first couple of times we have ordered, I've avoided the Ropa Vieja because I didn't think it could come close to my mom's cooking - but with the enjoyment of their other dishes, I'm confident it will be fantastic! read more

We have eaten here many times, great service and food. The plantains are a must! This time we catered a birthday party from here, the prices very reasonable. Food was amazing and fresh however when we picked up food we did not notice that queso and plantains were missing. I called restaurant after we got home when realized this. We had not been charged for these items. I told them nicely it was ok and to not worry. Manager called back to say a worker was driving the missing items out to us! Who does this! Wow !!!!!!how kind and considerate . Needless to say missing food was delivered to our party and enjoyed by all. They went the extra mile . Mistakes happen and they tried to make it right. I'll make a long story short here. My server was nice, but my food wasn't. Everything was served overcooked and bland. I will never be back, which is a pity because the lunch prices are excellent but the food mediocre. The reason why I will never be back, is because my meal was served completely overcooked and greasy so I sent it back in place of something else. Because I took like one bite of each thing and realized none of it was edible before sending it back they wanted to haggle on the price. First 1/2 price. Then $3. I didn't feel like dealing with this ridiculousness anymore so I just balanced the $3 out of the tip in frustration since I couldn't even see any servers the whole time with the ridiculous wall that they have where none of their customers can see the servers. I had to raise my hands in the air like I was doing the wave trying to get my servers' attention multiple times. Due to mediocre food & poor treatment I'll likely never return. We are new transplants from Los Angeles, and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the MEXICAN food at La Bamaba. OH MY GOODNESS! I just ordered the Colombian-style lengua en salsa through Grubhub (where it's known as La Bamba Sazon Latino), and it is AMAZING! The cilantro garnish is the perfect touch. The avocado garnish was so perfectly peeled, I tried to pick it up because it looked like it was still in the skin, and the salsa mixed well with the side of rice. Ordering over the phone didn't go well, I had to repeat my order several times and to my dismay it was still wrong when we showed up and we only ordered three dinners. To their credit the lady who both took the order and worked the front was very kind and tried very hard to be helpful. The food was ready when we got there but there was even some confusion as to what order was mine and there were only two others seated inside and I feel like I need to point out we showed up just before 6PM so it's not like we were ringing the bell for last call by any means. In summary, two of the three orders had items different to what was originally ordered and everything was so bland the old joke everything tastes like chicken couldn't even be used, not to mention the arepa I had was so hard on the edge I thought I might actually break a tooth! I hate to even be writing this review, the food looks great, and the staff is very friendly although there is a language barrier. This place is AMAZING! I don't know why they only have 3 stars... they are worthy of 5 stars for sure! I've only had a variety of tacos, they are so delicious I don't feel like I can try anything else because I'm always happy with my usual barbacoa or chicken. They tortillas are some of the best I've ever had. I usually grab a stack to take home. They've also sold me an lbs of meat to take for later. I'm giving this place four stars because it is seriously one of the most overlooked and under-rated restaurants in the East Asheville area. Its neglect is probably due to the fact that it is a new business, and also that it is located in Swannanoa, also known as "swannanowhere". Set up like one of those build-your-own burrito type eateries, they have a great assortment of tacos, burritos, nachos and other standard Mexican foods. They also have delicious house-made juices. For dessert I recommend their fried plantains with sour cream. If you're ever craving tacos and passing through the area, you won't be disappointed. read more

Less than five minutes after we left the restaurant, our stomachs were extremely upset and we were nauseous. We rushed home and my husband and I vomited so bad and my daughter had a stomachache. I don't know what they put in those burritos. they were bland and were the worst burritos I've ever eaten. It just tasted like mush. This is my favorite of the express burrito restaurants. The burritos are large and have ingredients (i.e. lamb) that you would never find at the chain burrito restaurants. All burritos also come with chips and salsa, and their salsa bar also has a pleasant variety. NO NO NO. I've been there twice, one of those times I almost died from food poisoning. It's a weird concept and dynamic in that restaurant. They've got a table that's supposed to be a steam table everything is pre cooked and sitting in tepid water.So if you get a burrito with unseasoned boiled meat or some type of canned vegetables all of it's too soggy. It's kind of expensive. The food is so bad it's funny. These poor people if they don't know better somebody needs to teach them. It's not going to be me I hope they close down. Not bad for Swannanoa, given that your only other choices are the Ingles "cafe" or Burger King, I would say this is the best restaurant that I've visited in Swannanoa :-) Salsa's that we tried were meh, the carne burrito was decent. The steak was too moist, it was scooped on my meal out of a tub of water so that probably had something to do with it. DD enjoyed her quesidilla, it wasn't too crispy which is just the way she likes it. We'd go back here again but would try something different the next time. read more

This place is legit. I have read some of the other reviews on here discussing bad experiences (I have only been going for a little less than a year so maybe changes have been made). I have never had any bad experiences and the food has always been good, not to mention daily special deals such as $2.99 64oz dos equis pitchers on Sat and Sun. It's not expensive nor fancy. I ate here for the first time yesterday while in the area. The burrito I got was pretty tasty and ingredients were fresh. Chips seem to be served with all meals and there is a good salsa bar for them. Several vegetarian options. Prices were pretty good - about on par with Chipotle. I've always had good food and service at La Bamba. THe lamb burrito was a special treat. The place reminds me of the little taquerias in West Texas. You find them everywhere in gas stations in trendas and on the street. The food is always well seasoned and fresh. Same goes for LA Bamba. Nice friendly staff and reasonable prices. read more
