Second visit to the kitchen, and with food this good, there will definitely be more in the future! We visited on a very cold morning, and orders are placed outside on the porch before entering. That's fine in normal cold weather, but at 22 degrees the overhead heaters just don't quite cut it. I think this part of the experience could use a little revision. My wife had pancakes with vanilla syrup and sausage. I ordered the classic breakfast with eggs, grits, sausage, and toast. Everything was very flavorful. My only complaint was that my food was lukewarm. It seemed like my food may have been finished and sat for a few minutes while my wife's pancakes were completed. On a cold morning, I would have preferred a hotter meal, the grits weren't warm enough to melt the butter, and the toast was cold, so I didn't even attempt to butter it. That said, even with the temperature issue, the food was still very tasty, and given how cold it was outside, I'm willing to let it slide. Everything arrived quickly, and the restaurant itself is very quaint, set in an old home that is very clean. On our first visit, they offered chocolate chip cookies to go, and they were excellent! Service and ambiance went well and the inside felt like being invited to someone else's house. I got a Reuben sandwich (with corn beef, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing) without Swiss cheese on GF bread, alongside potato salad. The flavors of the sandwich worked out well, but the bread I thought was a little soft. Regarding the potato salad, I usually prefer it warm and this was ice cold, but it was seasoned with paprika and chili powder, which gave it a good kick. This is the kind of meal you think about later in the day and wish you had another one waiting. The service was just as great. Everyone was friendly and thoughtful, and they even offered to bring water out for my dog, which was a really nice and unexpected touch. When we were finished, they also offered a to-go coffee, which says a lot about how much they care about their customers. The food was slightly above average as well as the actual restaurant but I absolutely hate that you must place your entire order and pay at the host stand before you can sit down, order drinks and relax a bit. it feels rushed like you're ordering fast food and produces unnecessary anxiety for guests. we also had to wait and hear the 2 groups of ppl in front of us ask numerous questions and gripe about the fact that they weren't ready to order yet and just started looking at the menu. This was such a great find! We were walking around town with our dog looking for a breakfast spot, and it was so darn hot! Louise's had a lovely shaded porch, and we were seated at a perfectly shaded table on the lawn. They brought us a water bowl for our pup too! It was so nice for him to be able to lay in the grass and cool down while we enjoyed the grit cakes and some over easy eggs. Decided to try a new place. My daughter and I love Black Mountain so we decided to drive up early for breakfast. We chose Louise's kitchen. My daughter order the grit pancakes, delicious. I ordered a veggie bagel with egg, and we shared a fresh made cinnamon roll. The food was absolutely delicious. I forgot pictures of our food because we just dug in so quickly and gobbled everything up. I apologize. Next time there will be pictures. The coffee (nice and strong, yummy )and the service were great. The house is absolutely lovely. I love the ambience and sitting in what was once someone's home really adorable. We went here while on vacation last week.... One star. Stand in line outside in the rain to order. Pay outside in the rain before you even get the food. THEN THEY ASK YOU TO TIP. BEFORE YOU'VE EATEN. THEY'LL ASK YOU TO TIP BEFORE YOU'VE HAD ANY SERVICE, AT ALL. That really pissed me off. Service was slow.... It was a long time before anyone came to put drinks on our table. If you go... bring cash to leave on the table for tip, otherwise, be prepared to pay (or not pay) a tip upfront. Beyond ridiculous. I don't appreciate business owners doing this. read more

Biscuits are quite good but not the best locally. I like the vibe. I have friends who love the pancakes. Coffee is good, they had oat milk. Out door seating is plentiful in warm weather. They get very busy. So if it's peak time (they close at 2pm) except a wait. My dining companion and I got Louise's Pancakes with vanilla bean syrup and regular bacon. Tough pancakes (over-mixed batter). One order of bacon was crispy and the other quite limp. The vanilla bean syrup did not taste like vanilla at all. I have vanilla bean paste in my refrigerator, and it looked like a very watered down version of that, but without the vanilla flavor. Food here is absolutely a must try! I got the Egg Special (served only on Sundays), which can be described as a Egg Benedict but with a twist! Sauce is super yummy and the sausage is amazing! From what I understood, the sausage is locally sourced and it has a lot of flavor! If you go for this dish, I assure you, you wont regret it! Order was taken and paid for outside at hostess/server station. Then we were offered seating indoors, porch or on the lawn. The porch was nicely shaded with adequate space. The service was friendly and impeccable. The whole operation runs smoothly. By ordering and paying upfront, it allows servers to serve and take care of customers requests. The cheese steak was tasty. I was expecting it to be more substantial; more meat and pimento cheese. It is a nice sandwich, however, and comes with a side and a pickle. Also shared a large salad with blue cheese crumbles. Wow line of people which is usually a good sign. It sure was great. We started with a homemade biscuit and homemade jam. That was a good start. Wife got a half and half. Curry chicken salad sandwich and Tomato soup. I got turkey, bacon, cheese sandwich with tomato and aioli dressing. Just the right amount of flavor and not overwhelming. The tomato was fresh locally grow, you can tell from the taste. My side was fresh fruit, blueberries, strawberries and bananas. Good thing I don't live near here. Lot of folks have had spirited debates on the best breakfast in and around Asheville, Louise's simply has to be in the conversation. It's in Black Mountain just outside of Asheville located in a historic house and has some seating around the deck of the house. They have a different style of seating you, you walk up to the house and wait in line, place your order with the server and then you are seated. I got the Big Boy Burrito which was just as advertised. A burrito filled with local eggs, sausage, cheese, potatoes and some fresh pico de gallo and on roasted red pepper wrap. It was big and of course filling, incredibly worth it. My wife got the Smoked Pork Quesadilla which you could dip in with Jamaican jerk sour cream or sweet chili sauce, was very delicious as well. Decent setting, as the converted house makes for interesting aesthetic. Bright white lighting kinda ruins it, but that may be just a preference on my part. Service was kind and gracious, with lots of coffee refills and care taken to clean up as we finished and then chatted. Ordered the Classic breakfast with grits, eggs, sausage, and a biscuit. Eggs, biscuit and jam were good, but the grits and sausage had a mix of herbs that were off putting to my palate. Not a picky eater at all (and I cleaned my plate like my dad taught me), but I will never order those items again if I were to return. In the end, the meal was overwrought and overpriced. For starters, they have you order, pre pay, and pre tip as you walk on to the porch. That felt quite strange. How do we know what tip we want to leave before we even get seated? We ordered a variety, as you can see in the photos. And it was just "so so" overall. My husband says his (the plate with eggs and biscuit) was good but not great. The sausage gravy was good and the eggs were cooked right. I found my potatoes to be very bland and the texture screams that they had been frozen not fresh. The French toast was ok but really seemed to lack flavor as well. The sausage was just inedible to me, it seemed fresher than the potatoes but was flavored in a way I just didn't enjoy. The coffee was really not good but I am, admittedly, a coffee snob and very picky about that. I like the comfy down home mismatched mugs but the one I was given was so stained it felt germy and filthy though I'm certain it had been cleaned. Staff was pleasant. Location easy enough to get to and nice to walk around some shops nearby. read more

Delicious breakfast items here! We came last year and loved everything so this year we came back for more! They are being extremely cautious with COVID. All the tables are outside on their patio (there are space heaters for when it's cold thankfully) and all the plates and silverware and paper/plastic. The tables are well spaced from each other. The food here is great! The biscuits are gravy are on point! The gravy is rich and herby, it has lots of rosemary and I think it's great! The creamy grits are yummy also!
