Came here for dinner after the hurricane and had a nice meal. They had bottled water and styrofoam containers. The inside is really cute like an old diner. Workers were really nice. The food was terrible. The chips were unsalted and flavorless. The bean dip tasted like it had gone bad a few days ago. The salsas at their little salsa bar were all watered down and they all tasted the same despite claiming to be different kinds of salsas. I got a burrito combo and my husband got a torta. Both were completely flavorless. The outdoor area was spacious and nice- though we felt forgotten outside. The waitress, Iraes, took our order and never checked on us again. We were only able to ask for the check because a different couple came to sit down outside, and she came to get their order. I cannot in good faith recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

Solid Mexican food. I read there was a salsa bar and was geeked to try it, bit I didn't see it or ask about it so that's on me. I guess I was taken aback by the server and everyone being so vanilla. Not unhelpfull if you would ask, just doing the bare minimum My Diablo shrimp had zero diablo, cooked lovely, but it came with zucchini and onions and peppers??? None of which were mention on the menu. Just threw me off - not what I expected nor had at other places...I was looking for spicy shrimp no fuss no muss. Beans n Rice were awesome and my bf's cali burrito was way better than my dish (he let me finish half of his!!!)...which if I found the salsa bar, I would've been much happier putting jalapeno verde on my cali half! So if I was local, I would prob give another shot so I could find my fav dish why? I was so pleasantly surprised by Nachos and Beer- from the outside it is very unassuming (it looks almost like a trailer), but head inside and there is plenty of room and some great food! We were sat very quickly, and I saw them work to accommodate a party of 10 that came in right before us, too. They were busy on the Friday night, but the waiter said it's hit or miss with that. The menu is large and has all the staples, and is all very reasonably priced especially considering you get 2+ meals out of each! The food all came out very quickly (maybe 15 minutes, if that) and was delicious. I recommend adding the queso to your meal, and eat as much of their bean dip as you can! read more

My husband I dropped by for dinner on a whim and we were pleasantly surprised! We both got steak fajitas which were good overall. I'm gluten free and there were no choices to substitute flour tortillas and nothing was designated GF. I took a gamble and so far I'm not reacting to the fajitas. Will update if that changes! The drinks were surprisingly HUGE which we both really enjoyed we didn't look at the drink selections beforehand so it was a nice surprise. I think the entire staff were robots. Ok, not how I wanted to start this out, but every person that I saw or interacted with was amotional...not good, not bad, just there. No one smiled, ever. Enough about robots and on to the food. The food was solid stuff that you can't go wrong with. I had the California Burrito which was tasty. The rice that came with it was solid, but no beans or pico on the plate, which should have come with it. Our robot, I mean waiter, asked if there was anything else, put the check down, and rolled away before I could form words. Apparently, no one gets a to-go option. Would I go back? Probably. Best Mexican in Asheville!! So worth the drive. I came across this place on the way to an appointment I was extremely early to so I popped in for lunch. Yay for me! It was so packed on a weekday at 1pm. I wasn't sure what to expect but was happily surprised by the simplest of items. I ate at the bar so I had the opportunity to speak to a couple of seasoned regulars who swear by this place. I brought my father here for fathers fay as Mexican is his favorite cuisine but it's so microwaved and blah in most places this restaurant is the exception everything we have had is good. As far as Mexican joints go, this place is very good. Converted from a moved 50's style diner right off Charlotte Hwy, this restaurant is a little out of the way, tucked right under Reynolds Village. The 50's style diner kinda throws you off, but the booths are cozy and the staff is very friendly. They have a full bar and the margaritas are amazing. Prices are great, and the amount of food you get is worth the dime. Food quality is good compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. (I usually order the Choripollo here). Food is always good here, always seems to come out quickly, and I have never had any issues with the service or the food. They have a nice big covered patio on the back side of the restaurant, so even if it rains, you are not gonna get wet. Inside, it is spacious, big booths and tables, long bar right inside the front door, an another along the back wall. Not a lot of complaints: I don't really like the salsa here, but the queso is great, so it compensates for the salsa. They do great with takeout, as I have had that a few times. So, they told me I would have difficulties finding a good Mexican restaurant in Asheville. They were right, it's been a challenge, but one that has been sucessively met! Before trying their specialties I wanted to see how they did on the basics. Between the two of us we sampled taquitos, cheese enchilladas and chili reyanos. I had their Beef Taco combo and was surprised that the beef was shredded instead of ground. Maybe I should've specified I wanted ground? Maybe I should've been asked? In any case it tasted uh... ok... rice and beans were good (but that's kinda hard to mess up, right). On the plus side my draft beer was nice and cold. My second visit was borne out of curiosity to affirm whether my first impressions were valid or not. I had another one of their combos, which I don't even remember what it was now and again it was just ok. So, next time I have a craving for Mexican I think I will be driving past this one. read more

Affectionately referred to "the Silver Bullet Diner" this has been our "go to" restaurant for years. Go at least once a month. Consistently good with great service. Great prices. Beer specials daily from $1.99. We got our meal pretty quickly. My chicken bowl was awesome! Made 2 meals out of it. Chunks of grilled chicken, rice, fresh tomatoes and cilantro with whole beans. Fresh sliced avocados on top! Left out the onions. Yum! Not highly seasoned but tasted good. Could have been warmer. Mike's shredded steak burrito was large with lots of rice. Prices are good.
