We came here with a party of 20 and were seated right at our reservation time, which we appreciated. However, it took quite a while for the food to come out. Some dishes were a bit disappointing--particularly the rice and beans, which lacked flavor--though the meat itself was well-seasoned and tasted good. La Bamba continues to be a solid choice for Mexican and they do an excellent job with their takeout. Typically the food is ready within 15 mins and they package it in a way that keeps it fresh, intact, warm and tasting as it would in the restaurant. Last night I tried the grilled steak tacos ranchero and they were excellent. They are steak cooked in ranchero sauce with onions and cilantro. Served with a side of beans the three tacos make a satisfying meal and really it is enough to share. The corn tortillas have a nice corn flavor, but they do tend to fall apart a bit on the second and third taco as they absorb liquid. read more

The over all experience here was okay. The food came out hot which was wonderful. And the steak in the steak fajita quesadilla was tasty. The salsa was good, but not great. I ordered the house margarita and honestly, that's what brought my over all rating down to a 3 . The margarita was just not good at all. I didn't even finish it. Which is a shame because it was $6 and in the cutest glass. But honestly, I don't know if it's the mix they use or if it was the house tequila or what, but it was not good. Thankfully the food was good. So now I know just not to order the house margarita but honestly it makes me scared to order another drink here other than beer. And ya can't get Mexican without a margarita, amarite? The patio was nice though. Been coming here for years. Ambiance is nice. I always say they have the best salsa and margaritas in town! They have the best fajitas. Service is fast and friendly. The restaurant is always hopping at lunch so get there early or late. But even when slammed, they turn them pretty quickly. Their weak spot IMO, is ground beef and dishes using it, however, there is plenty else on the menu. read more

Unclear why every menu doesn't include a Philly Cheesesteak Taco and why I've just now had one. These were honestly so delicious and a nice spin on a traditional taco! They were very large tacos and filled nice and full so much so I was only able to eat one by the time I had a little rice and chips with guacamole! Speaking of the Guacamole, it was just me eating so I got a small Guacamole and while the guacamole with Pico in it is normally my favorite, I knew it would go to waste with just me eating it so I got the regular small guacamole, I wasn't expecting much it packed a little punch I must say! read more

This local Mexican joint is a common stopping place for my husband and I as its in walking distance. We dined-in right before COVID caused the stay-at-home order in mid-March. We have also gotten take-out a couple of times since then. We are not dining-in restaurants much yet but La Bamba has a very large dining area and outside seating, which is good for COVID social distancing practices for those that are. At the time of these photos, I got the dinner Mixed Fajitas (chicken and steak with grilled onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers). Meat and vegetables are always cooked nicely and seasoned well. Fajitas are served with rice and your choice of beans (you can actually get black beans here, which isn't an option at some of our go-to Mexican restaurants so this is a top choice place for me when being healthy as I don't want refried beans), guacamole, sour cream, salad, pico, and flour tortillas. I do wish they did offer corn tortillas as well as I prefer them and generally healthier. Maybe something they can consider for the future! Plenty of food for two meals! My husband got the Enchiladas Suizas- three chicken enchiladas with cheese sauce and ranchero sauce served with rice. I had a bite and delicious! Also, a nice size portion. Their complementary chips and salsa are also yummy. They give you so many chips when you get take-out as well. Absolutely felt safe when got take-out, cashier is behind glass, wearing mask and gloves, hand sanitizer around, etc. Food is always packed nicely and so far; orders have been correct. Do. Not. Recommend. Food is mediocre, at best. I ordered the chicken and steak bowl with rice and beans. Added avocado for a surcharge. I asked for no pico and to substitute it for lettuce and tomato. Rice in the bowl is parboiled, mushy and unseasoned; nothing like the good Mexican rice one would expect. I asked them to swap the rice, which they did. Yet, Mexican rice was under seasoned, beans were ok, chicken and steak pieces had nothing remarkable to them and zucchini had zero salt. When bill came, I found out I was charged $1.25 for one slice of tomato, and $1.50 for a handful of lettuce. One bowl, one sweat tea and service had just cost me $30!!!! I complained and got that $ back, but was told they charge you no matter what. Hours later it hit me they NEVER gave me the avocado I paid $2.29 extra for!!!! Very disappointing. read more

Order take out from them twice and both times the food was yummy! Absolutely love the queso dip. I always get the carnitas tacos. The first time it came with hot sauce but this time it didn't (it was better with hot sauce) but each entree came w chips and salsa so I just used the salsa for my tacos and it was fine. read more

Well, it is worth the slightly longer drive for the great food, ambiance, and exceptional service. We had chicken fajitas, a chimichanga, and the chicken special. Each dish was very good! La Bamba was my weekly lunch staple for over a year when I worked in the area. The lunch menu is diverse and very reasonably price. I hadn't been in months and just went during phase 2 re opening during COVID and it was as delicious as I remember and I felt very safe with the precautions they're taking. Also a y'all draft of Dos Equis (a staple for me when I eat Mexican) was $2.50 cheaper than the Mexican restaurant closer to my home. So last night, we went to La Bamba and my friend thought she had left her phone at the dinner table. Our bill came to $89. I paid in cash, $107 because we sat at the bar. It was an enjoyable time! When we called the restaurant to discuss a missing phone, they told us we owed an additional $40. All I have to say is never leave cash on the table. Always pay at the front! The waiter came and collected the cash while we sat there for an additional 10 minutes. If we needed to pay more money, the waiter should have addressed us in person. So my friend, races up to the restaurant to get her phone however they bombarded her and four guys told her if she doesn't pay $40 they will keep her phone. Well it turns out, her phone was sitting on the kitchen counter; and she paid them. I will never return to La Bamba and I will definitely tell all my friends that these waiters cannot be trusted! My husband took on a date to La Bamba and I absolutely loved the food. I always orders the white cheese and theirs is the best I ever had. The cheese coated the tortilla chips and the flavor was amazing. However, I was very impressed with the staff, the service fast the customer service was impeccable! To top it off, I left my expensive eyewear there, when I called days later my eyewear was in the lost and found. They won me over with the food but staff won me over too! read more

No dish really had bursting flavor, the place had no ambiance, the service was good, but overall can see why it's rated as such. I had the combo number 6 which was an enchilada, hard taco, beans and rice. The beef was seasoned really well, but didn't have any other ingredients to kick it up. The salsa seemed fresh but wasn't a ton different than Pace Picante. They didn't have any hot sauce which was a bit strange but their hot salsa was ok. read more

Their salsa picante (you have to ask for it, but it's free) is delicious. I mix it with the boring standard salsa they serve regularly in the little dishes. The burrito (on the left in the photo) was very tasty...the red sauce is different from what I used to because it has an orange tint to it...but overall, the burrito was delicious. I had the shredded beef burrito, but it had lots of green pepper and onions inside (which I'm not a fan of), so I had to dissect it to bypass those chunky distractions. The item on the right in the photo is a huge chicken tostada. The shredded chicken had a very unique and delicious flavor, but the tostada was so flimsy I couldn't pick it up and eat it the way I love to (like a flat taco or small pizza). So I had to cut it up and eat it like a salad with the chips. This was my first time here, and I'll definitely visit again. read more

This restaurant has been at this location for what? - nearly 25 years now, and sadly it has not kept pace with its competition in the last few of those years. Some of it is due to the growing competition, which increasingly brings new and different experiences to Mexican cuisine available in this area, and some is due to lack of attention to details. The service has always been slightly dysfunctional, and remains so, especially in comparison with other Mexican restaurants now operating in Greensboro. From strictly a cuisine point of view, this was never a creative, cutting edge kind of place (much like its peer, Mexico) - it was always a middle of the road, "Speedy Gonzales" lunch combo, Chili Relleno with a small piece of pepper kind of place. But it had a certain familiarity, so flaws seemed minor, not unlike the cousin with the large jaw and small ears. I don't know that the decline has been so severe as to warrant the harsh reviews here, but there is no denying that the quality is not what it once was. Both my wife and sister-in-law ,who have both loved this place for years, now prefer other Mexican restaurants. That is a strong statement; deny the feminine side at your own peril. read more

I know there are two La Bamba's in greensboro and I am reviewing the one on 601 state street. It was my first visit & I had an awful experience here all around. I WILL NOT be back. 1. Ordering on the phone: The staff who answered the phone seemed very unknowledgeable about the menu. She would ask me the same questions multiple times and at one point i was reading the menu descriptions to her. 2. Extended wait: Once i placed my order i was told "10 minutes" Mind you I don't live close so it was probably about 20 minutes before I arrived and the food was not ready. I waited another 20 minutes once i got there. 3. Surprise fees: when i placed my order on the phone the staff did not indicate there would be a "pick up fee" for each item i ordered they added an extra 25 cents to my total. I never mind paying extra when i know what i am paying for but this was never explained to me. When I asked the staff what it was for they didn't seem to know ... talked to the manger the next day and he said it's something that the owners implemented and it is for the chips and salsa (that i did not ask for). Either way it's important to disclose all fees at the time of ordering. 4. The food was inedible: I order the two taco combo (one pork, one steak) soft shell , which i received hard shell which is an extra charge as well, order the quesadilla rojo which was soaking wet and the tortilla was so soggy and unenjoyable, also order the la bamba bowl which was the best of the 3. My tacos came out incorrectly looked like a mixed between pork and steak but it did not look or taste good. My sister did not eat her quesadilla especially because the sour cream tasted spoiled and i did not eat my taco. 5. Manger had Amnesia: I called the manager to see about a refund and explain my dissatisfaction. He kept asking to remake my food but that isn't what I wanted at this point. Finally he agreed to give me a refund. I show up at the restaurant and a staff member is handling my complaint and he has to keep running to the back to ask the manger questions. I explained how i expected the refund and he says"we can only refund the tacos" I say that is not what i was told and the manger comes out. He says that he DOES NOT remember me explaining about the other food items besides the taco... this just shows me he was not listening. We argue back and forth but he ends up giving me a refund for 2/3 items. Mind you I brought the food back with me untouched so he can see i truly did not eat this crap. I felt like management was calling me a liar and the process to get my refund was not smooth. At one point staff told me my sister had to come back and get the refund for her food even though it was all on my card? He tried to get over on me by not giving me the correct amount on the refund but luckily i had my receipt and suddenly was able to get the correct amount. I do not recommend this restaurant! Stopped in for dinner, had the Chori Pollo. The chicken was cooked nicely with plenty of flavorful chorizo sausage and cheese on top. It came with the usual beans, rice, lettuce salad and tortillas on the side. I also ordered the Churros, they were good, they just lay theirs on a plate side by side with a squirt of whipped cream and a small drizzle of chocolate syrup on the whipped cream, nothing fancy. La Bamba is to me a quintessential mediocre Mexican fast food restaurant. You can expect a generous supply of chips for your table and swift service, but don't count on eating great food here. With that said, I don't mean to sound condescending because actually I like La Bamba and eat there fairly regularly. I generally come for lunch, which is reasonably priced at around $5-7, knowing I can fill up without taking up too much time. It's hard to recommend anything in particular, so instead here's a breakdown of two dishes common to Mexican fast food restaurants: First, the Speedy Gonzalez lunch. For $4.80 you get an enchilada, hard taco, and a choice of rice or beans. I'd personally suggest the rice over the heavy, bland beans. Your taco will be meat topped with shredded lettuce and a pile of shredded cheese. It's as heavy and one-dimensional as it sounds and greatly benefits from the salsa they provide with your basket of chips. The enchilada is made with a corn tortilla topped with shredded cheese which is then drowned in a brown sauce. Second, I'll describe the steak lunch fajitas ($7). The core of this dish, the steak, is a bit tomatoey and has an almost grainy mouthfeel from the seasonings with which it is cooked. Mixed in are slivers of green pepper, onion, and chunks of tomato. To dress the wrap you'll be building you also receive rice and beans, shredded lettuce, guacamole, and a small amount of pico de gallo. The pico de gallo provides a much needed dose of freshness so don't be surprised if you want more than they initially bring you. Overall, La Bamba tends to serve combinations of about three different taste qualities: heavy, crunchy, and spicy (a little, if you load on the salsa). If they could manage to find greater balance by adding more freshness and transforming heaviness into savoriness, I think their food would be leagues better. But honestly, it would probably take them beyond their scope as a fast food restaurant to do this. Not that I'd mind. read more

El Lunchador is all about chowing down on some good Mexican food and the go to place for him in Greensboro is La Bamba when convenient and definitely when in the mood for Camarones a la Diabla, which is the best in town. If you like it hot, this is the dish for you and it is kicked up at La Bamba to perfection. I have had other offerings here with my dinner mates and it is always good, with no complaints from them. Granted, El Lunchador has eaten at better places in California among other destinations but I am judging La Bamba against the local places and find them solid and consistent. read more
