    Torta Cubana
    Zac G.

By and large, I'm not a food challenge guy. I won't try to wolf down an obscenely large steak in an hour or partake in mouth-eradicating atomic wings. But every once in a while, I come across a sandwich so ridiculously overstuffed that curiosity compels me to check it out. The Torta Cubana at Gusgueras is one such sandwich, boasting mozzarella, chorizo, egg, ham, sausage, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream, all between two pieces of bread. Challenge accepted! For those less inclined to engage in such feats of bravado or stupidity, Gusgueras offers many, many other options. As the name suggestions, they specialize in seafood. You can get pulpo (octopus) several different ways, a fried or grilled red snapper, and more. Of course, the expected array of tacos/burritos/ACPs are on offer here too, but Gusgueras is a place that begs you to try something different. I was quoted a speedy ten minute turn-around time when I called in my sandwich order, and they were just finishing it up when I arrived. Gusgueras took over the former original Porter House location, and while I had fond memories of the previous tenant, it is nice to see the space get a refresh. The folks at Gusgueras were nothing but kind, and if I still lived in Greensboro, I could see myself visiting with some frequency. Back to the sandwich: it wasn't the gut-busting monster that I had expected (or that the $16 price tag would have more easily justified), but it was still plenty filling and plenty tasty. The meats delivered salty goodness, the jalapenos a bit of heat, and the vegetables a refreshing crunch. The accompanying fries were just okay, but they threw in chips and a homemade spicy salsa as well. Given how saturated Greensboro is with Mexican eateries, Gusgueras is going to have a hard time displacing anyone's local favorite. But the kindness of the staff and sheer scope of the menu make it worth a look. I'm glad my ongoing fascination with "kitchen sink" sandwiches gave me a reason to check this place out.

    Quesabirria Tacos

I came here for takeout lunch and ordered the Quesabirria tacos and the Pineapple and Cucumber Agua Fresca. I called ahead, and the young ladies on the phone were super polite. When I arrived, I noticed a clean space with lots of wood decor. The wood was shiny, like a sports bar, with knick-knacks for purchase up front near the register. When I arrived, my order was ready. I paid after having a friendly conversation with the servers and left. I was going to take the food back to work, but the aroma of the tacos was so heavenly that I took a bite. Then I took another and another until they were all gone. The birria was juicy and well-seasoned. The tacos had just the right amount of cheese, with excellent, crisp tortillas that were bursting with the consomé's flavor. The consomé was rich and flavorful. The accompanying veggies were super fresh, and the red and green salsas were divine. Overall, 10/10. I cannot wait to come back.

I hadn't heard about this place until a friend from out of town said they saw a post about it. So glad he mentioned it! When we walked in, it took a few minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. I realized they only had three servers so it wasn't a big deal. Eventually we were told to choose our own table. We walked towards the back and were then told we couldn't sit back there as there was a party happening. Completely fine. I just think the initial greeting and confusion of where to sit was a bit off putting. The food made the experience better! My friend ordered the fried snapper and I got the quesabirria tacos. Both dishes were so good! We kept eating off each other's plate. The variety of sauce they provided was a nice compliment. We dipped the tacos and fish in all the sauces. My friend ordered a lemonade and when it arrived we just had to laugh at the size of it. It was huge! He also got a strawberry smoothie. It taste like a strawberry milkshake more so than smoothie. I ordered a margarita with my meal. It was an average restaurant margarita. Not much alcohol, but still worth the money. I will say the restaurant was very loud. The party was doing karaoke and it could be heard throughout the establishment. We enjoyed it and danced and sang along with it, but just a heads up if you're not looking for a lively experience.

Carne asada burrito with black beans instead of fries

Welcomed in immediately and told to sit wherever we wanted. Service was quick and efficient. I ordered a strawberry margarita but got a lime one. (No argument it was still good!). The burrito was good. Filling meat and pico de gallo and guacamole. I replaced the fries with black beans instead they could have been hotter. The cheese did not melt. The flavor was good though. Chips and salsa were good. We were given three types of salsa. All very good. This place is roomy and clean. We saw two bars with a bunch of seating. Nice place!

Mice authentic seafood Mexican restaurant that new to the area. Location is off West Market where alot of the international food spots are. This place was delicious and had many different options available. Place is spacious and has TVs available. Many drink options as it operates as a full bar too.

This place has the best Michelada in town! If you're looking for really good seafood or a place to get some good Mexican food this is your place the Molcajete are huge. Highly recommend the Volcan. We also had the seafood dip was definitely loaded with seafood great flavor. If tortas are you thing. You definitely need to get one they do not skimp out they are loaded and the put the frijoles on the bottom. You will not leave this place hungry. During the week the service is great on the weekend. They get very very busy still great service and if you enjoy live music, that's the time to go.

I absolutely LOVE this new Mexican restaurant near our salon! The staff are warm and welcoming, and Liz (the manager) is simply amazing she makes the best margaritas around. Always ask for Liz if you want the perfect drink! The food? Not only delicious, but also presentable and smoking hot every time it comes out of the kitchen. Chef Elit puts his heart into every single dish, and it truly shows. I've never been disappointed with any order! It's also very family-friendly, which makes dining here even better. The servers speak both Spanish and English, and they're always so friendly and accommodating. On top of that, they host Wednesday Night Karaoke so much fun and they even have a party room for private events, which is perfect for celebrations. I met the owner as well, and she's so sweet and friendly! As a Filipino, food is a big deal to me, and this place hits the mark every single time. I come here 3 to 4 times a week because I just can't get enough. This restaurant is doing everything rightgreat food, amazing drinks, family vibes, and fun entertainment. Highly recommend!!!

I placed a to-go order after reviewing their many many options menu. Ordered the Burrito Gordo/fries. It was full of meat, jalapeno's gave it an extra kick. Service was ok as it was just a to-go order. I will most definitely return.

    Beef fajitas

We saw the 4.7 reviews and drove 15 extra miles to try this restaurant. The sign wasn't very clear, so we hesitated a bit before going in. The server was friendly, and we were the only table left as a party was just leaving around 3 p.m. Since we were starving, we ordered beef fajitas--the flavor was okay but the beef was so tough with a lot of tendon and hard to chew. We also ordered chicken burrito, but it came out as beef again. At that point, we were just hungry so we ate it anyway. Overall, it was an interesting experience, but probably not one we'd return for.

    Grilled Salmon
    Ms Y.

Was promptly greeted, seated, and asked for my drink. The food came out quickly. I ordered a strawberry horchata, which was decent, though not quite to my taste. For my entrée, I had the grilled salmon, and it was amazing! The only downside was that I would have preferred more rice instead of the salad, but overall, the service was good, and the food was pretty great.

When I came into the restaurant nobody greeted me or said hello.; This made me wonder if it was closing time but decided to sit at the bar. After waiting a while someone took my order. The Michelada was delicious and so was the draft Modelos. The fail was when I ordered a chimichanga and asked how large it was. I'm a decent big guy and wanted to make sure it was enough. After a long while the food finally came out and to my disappointment the chimichangas were the size of something you would get off the kids menu; Wal-Mart chimichangas are bigger than what they served me. I'm surprised they weren't embarrassed when they served it to me; it was tiny lol almost criminal . I thought they were joking but were entirely serious. I ate 3/4 of one of the tiny chimichanga. The food that I asked for was a chicken & shrimp with jalapeño slices inside the chimichangas. I was fully expecting them to charge an upcharge for the shrimp added. I expected the upcharge something I was fully prepared to pay. What I got was tiny miniature chicken chimichangas with no jalapeños inside it and maybe a piece of shrimp inside it; they had of course forgotten. Mind you I confirmed twice with the waitress the second time she asked me to verify what I had ordered. They realized their mistake with the jalapeños and brought some in a little cup to self serve. Sad to say the only good thing for me was the Michelada and drafts. Petty people and petty food. I don't recommend this place spend your money where they actually care about customer service and the quality of the food.

I had a really good experience, food is amazing, staff are lovely great service, they also have karaoke nights on Wednesdays, very family friendly, no waiting time quickly seated.

Update for our 2026 annual visit:…read more We ate in this year and the service and ambiance matched the quality of the food we had last year. I have been looking forward to the World Ninja Championships so that I can eat here again and the team did not disappoint. I had the special, chilaquiles supreme and YES! Flank steak butterflied and so tender that I cut through it easily with a butter knife. They make the chips fresh for each order of chilaquiles and you can taste it. Generous amounts of every flavor that went into the meal and I left stuffed! Hands down, my favorite place and I have a feeling we are making a second trip here this year for sure! First impression as you walk in, or look at images of the menu: AUTHENTIC! First impressions when you bite into your food: They nailed the first impression! I had the lingua, tripa, pez, and Pastor tacos. My family had the California burrito, chicken and beef tacos, and the Enchiladas Mexicanos with mole and salsa verde. We also added a side of guac and chips. Guac: thin mixed avocado and perfectly sized chunks mixed in with the tomato and seasonings. An absolute must! The 4 tacos I ate were succulent to say the least. The tripa was thin and crispy, but you could taste the rendered fat in them. It had the texture of perfectly cooked bacon. Al pastor is one of my favorites and this one did not disappoint. Then there was the pez taco that was just the right amount of crispy without being an iota overcooked. At last I ate the lingua taco. It melted in my mouth and I immediately wanted another. I don't even like mole sauce, but I couldn't stop eating the mole enchilada. Aces, hands down. The California burrito was phenomenal and had the perfect amount of each ingredient and a delectable amount of heat and sweet cream sauce. The chicken was obviously hand shredded and had equal amounts of larger chunks of meat and thin pulled pieces to soak up all the flavor in endless nooks and crannies. If you have not been here please do your palate a flavor and stop in. The value far exceeded the price of our meals and we plan on coming here every year when the World Ninia finals rome to town

Service was really bad. Our server was absolutely terrible. Got most of our order wrong despite showing her the items on the menu. She didn't check the table at all and we had to send other employees to get her and even then she performed what was a very simple job extremely poorly despite having only one other table. Ambiance was terrible. Music was so loud. We had to actually yell at each other as did the other patrons and we asked multiple times to turn it down without success. Will never return to this awful restaurant.

True to its namesake, there are brightly colored folk art designs throughout the restaurant in line with their Mexican heritage. The trees that make it look overgrown from the outside actually serve to allow sunlight while masking the surrounding city, facilitating the transformation that makes you feel like you're in Mexico City. We came at an off-peak time in the afternoon and it was nearly empty. We were seated immediately and the service was prompt and attentive. I was pleased to see some unique menu offerings like Birra Ramen and Sopes that deviate from the standard American-friendly fare in most places. Drinks were good - we had a regular house margarita, a triple berry margarita, and a jalapeño cucumber margarita. All were tasty and I would order again. I tried to order a Mezcalita, since it's not often I see a Mezcal option, but they were out of that particular liquor. We tried to get street corn as an appetizer, which they were also out of. We got cheese and salsa with chips instead. The chips were hot and fresh, the salsa generous with the cilantro, and the cheese bold and warm. For entrees we had the Al Pastor Quesadilla and the Birra Ramen. The quesadilla was good, though the beans on the side were pretty bland. The ramen was a unique and very tasty option, and I was not able to finish such a generous portion. I think I'd leave the cheese out next time since it made some weird textures, but the flavor was great overall. Overall, there are some small things to improve (having menu items in stock, bland beans) and the prices were a bit high, but we had a great experience overall. I'm not often in the area, but I'll certainly eat here again if I am!

I got the lunch ACP, which was quick to come out, and a first for me, it was served with choice of corn or flour tortillas...I opted for flour. The food tasted great, and portion size was perfect, honestly, probably a little more than I should have eaten for lunch, but it will tide me over until dinner. Definitely worth checking out. This spot has an amazing bright and vibrant atmosphere, beautifully decorated with bright colors, a much different look inside then out. It did not need any flashiness or grandeur- just some good food and good vibes. Now the food: WOW I was blown away by the pork belly garlic fried rice. The pork belly was so incredibly fatty and perfectly crispy, the shrimp add-on was juicy and well seasoned, and the fried egg over a bed of DELICIOUS steamy garlicky fried rice was absolutely perfection. And they do NOT skimp on the portions. This heaping bowl was just $15, and it was generously topped with the pork belly.
