This place surprised me. We stopped in for dinner after a long drive. It was a Saturday night and we were seated right away. They give you a choice of spicy or mild salsa with complimentary chips. We preferred the spicy. There isn't too much heat. I ordered the Pollo Asado and requested no queso. I have a feeling this restaurant caters to the preference for queso to smother everything in this area of the country. The menu even notes a $2.50 up charge for extra queso. My pollo was piping hot and tender. Very delicious. I enjoyed the Spanish rice and refried beans with smooth guacamole and pico with pickled jalapeños on the side. An order of tortillas is also provided with this meal. The guacamole had a good flavor with lemon and salt as the main accents. It was fresh and not at all yeasty. My girls mentioned they prefer the chunkier guacamole but I was happy with this. So many places serve badly seasoned, old, or yeasty guacamole. One of my girls got the Jalisco burrito and couldn't stop raving about how good it was. She said the shrimp was cooked perfectly and we had a debate over who had the best protein at the table. The portions were very large. We took half home. This was a laid back casual restaurant with friendly wait staff that took care of these weary travelers. We left happy and full. read more

We stopped here coming back from Raleigh. Being from Texas, we love our tex mex food, but I was surprised by the food at this restaurant. I got a veggie burrito, and it was pretty good. Always hoping for the best, we decided to try this location - mainly because the restaurant had been added to TakeOut Triad delivery service. Alas, the results were not good, not good at all! The Salsa conainers were the smallest I've ever seen, and we ordered extra at $1.50 - ended up with 3 bags of chips and 2 itsy, bitsy containers of salsa - not at all cool. In addition, the Special Burrito ($4) was a complete no show - but the charge was very visible. The Ground Beef Quesadilla Verde ($7.75) was burnt - check the picture - it tasted like burnt toast. The Chili Relleno ($2.60) was a greasy mess - again the picture. The Chile Colorado ($10.50) was a very small portion for the price, and was bland, overcooked & chewy. The 3 hard Beef Taco ($4.25) were simply ok, and the 3 Chicken Enchiladas ($5.50) were the best of the bunch, but still on the dry side. What a train wreck of an order - overpriced, overcooked, overlooked, undersized - totally underwhelmed!!! NOTE: This review was posted in Jan 2014 to the La Bamba location on State Street. Other meals had more issues with kids meals... 6 old didn't even eat the hamburger (yes I know it's a mexican restaurant) but it was pre cooked then put in the microwave... it was nasty... fries were obviously frozen then put in the microwave. Go down High Point Rd and places like La Bamba are a dime a dozen. This street used to be THE place to eat out in Greensboro back in the "heyday" of the Greensboro Coliseum. Now it's just the random chain restaurant that's choked out by pawn shops, cheap Mexican restaurants, car stereo stores, and the occasional ethnic gem of a restaurant. This isn't one of them! Reluctant to say why I'm here on a Saturday morning at 11am, nonetheless I was here with only one other table occupied! The building looks deplorable on the outside, and roughly the same inside. There's literally a place on the ceiling where there was obviously water damage, that has since been covered with plywood and painted black. The plywood has rotted and started sagging, which leads me to wonder how places like this actually pass city inspection? The food actually has potential, as from the first bite of the chips and salsa, I actually thought there was hope! The Carne Azada was brought out in a very large portioned plate, with a decent sized flank steak that had been pounded out thin, I was disappointed at the toughness of the over cooked steak. The chicken enchiladas I must admit were packed with shredded slow cooked chicken! The problem was a complete lack of any flavor. There was the potential for a great dish, but with seemingly no seasoning, the dish sat their looking sad! Seeing the tamale side item delivered to the table with a red/brown sauce poured over it, with apparently chorizo mixed into the sauce, was a strange combo indeed. I've been coming to la bamba for years. Their food is consistently good and their service is great. One of my favorite things here is their spinach quesadilla- they put a good amount of spinach in it and they add some pico de gallo! You really can't go wrong with anything here. I would say that I wish their rice and bean portions were a bit bigger. Their salsa is spicy but has a good, fresh flavor. It certainly doesn't taste like tomatoes straight from the can, like some other places I've been to. Their guacamole is smooth and creamy, which is nice! Their cheese dip is very good. My favorite thing here is their pico de gallo. It is the freshest I've ever had at a restaurant. I always get a large container to-go of it, and it doesn't get watered down as I eat off of it over 3 or 4 days. It's fabulous! When you come here, you know what you're going to get. First time trying this place. Drive by it all the time and never went in. Sat as soon as we walked in the door. And server took our drink order. Asked for queso and was brought to us in less than a minute. Queso was warm and very good! Chips were warm on arrival. Wasn't to crowded. Server was fast and friendly. Got order right on first go. Their menu has all of the usual suspects, such as fajitas, enchiladas, combo meals, etc, etc. The preparation is average--certainly nothing noteworthy. They do typically have booze specials, so one can expect inexpensive beers and margaritas. The food tends to be overly salty, so booze goes well with most dishes. La Bamba's menu is mostly well priced, and they offer inexpensive lunch and taco options. So, if you're looking for average, mostly inexpensive Mexican food, this is the place. read more

I was so looking forward to it, but was disappointed. The regular salsa that they serve is no more exciting than tomato sauce, so ask for the salsa picante...it's much better. I ordered a chicken tostada (and asked the waitress if the tostadas had beans on them (because it's not mentioned on the menu))...she assured me that they had beans, but when the tostada came, no beans. :O( And as soon as I picked it up it started falling apart. The "crisp" corn tortilla may have been crisp in the kitchen but it didn't last until it was served to me. C'mon...they can do better than that. Tasty, with the shredded chicken, but ultimately I had to chop it all up and make a tostada salad out of it. The ground burrito was satisfactory, but the red sauce could have been much more flavorful. The restaurant itself is in need of a SERIOUS upgrade. I felt I was back in time by 20 years. This was my first trip to La Bamba. I had the Tacos De Carnitas. These were listed under their street tacos in their menu. They were quite good. They are served with rice and beans, a lime to squeeze and what appeared to be some type of chipotle sauce. It was good as well. The salsa was good. Not too hot but hot enough to get your attention. Chips were just okay. Overall I was impressed with the entire menu and look forward to another visit. The health department rating was posted at a 93 which I knew before I went there because I had looked on line. We won't generally eat anywhere that is below a 96 but I thought I would take the chance. For that reason alone the wife did not go with me. Was quite pleased. Looking forward to seeing a 96 or better on their next inspection. read more

Okay I usually rate businesses higher but this one was a little disappointing. It took like 8 mins to be sitted when there was only 2 of us and there was plenty of tables. I think there was only one waitress so i tried not to complain. I ordered the arroz con pollo and my sis had the Acc she said hers was pretty good but mines was overly salty and the salad was loaded with cheese to the point that i couldn't taste anything but it. My girlfriend keeps dragging me here for $1 dollar taco night, so I've had a few opportunities to try the enchiladas, quesadillas, and burritos, and as someone who has lived in the SW where you can throw a stone and hit any number of great Mexican restaurants, I've eaten A LOT of good Mexican food. La Bamba is not good mexican food. Poor quality ingrediants, "burritos" with nothing but meat in them, soggy taco shells. You can tell when you flip thru the 12 page menu and see sliders, cheese sticks, and onion rings what they're going for--they're trying to please everyone and feed less than mediocre Mexican food to people who have been eating chicken and biscuits for most of their lives and may never have had good Mexican food. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Greensboro! When I come to La Bamba the customer service is always up to part! I always order their "ACP" there chicken, cheese, and rice which is so good also, with there sweet tea which is also really really good, but before the meal comes the waitress brings there nachos and salsa which is kinda spicy but always taste good! I always get the same waitress I forgot her name but she works very hard so I always leave her a nice tip behind! I never have to wait to be seated when I come in they always have room for me and friends to sit down which is always good because nobody likes to wait. I love the waitress because she's not boring she loves to talk with us and she always have our order right o matter what. read more

If it was possible, I would put 0 stars. Myself and my boyfriend have come here for over 7 years and in the last 5 times, 4 of them have been truly awful. The wait and customer service have been at an insane all time low. We waited for 45 minutes for tacos on a Saturday when there were 4 tables occupied.......beyond ridiculous. We were not acknowledged by the waitress who is the owners girlfriend or wife until 43 minutes before we received our food. We also had the pleasure of being waited on by a girl who got our order wrong, our beer choice wrong, failed to deliver queso after asking what size we would like and then proceeded to text at the bar when we asked for napkins. It is truly a shame because this place is good and has great food but enough is enough. No one checks on you to see if you need anything and our waitress just placed an open crusted up tapatio on our table when I asked for hot sauce and walked away. This is always our go-to quick, fill you up for dinner spot. There is always a drink special going on as well as lunch specials. Came in here with a large group of fellow fitness instructors, and we were super hungry, so we ordered our own entrees, as well as guacamole and queso for our chips. The queso was so smooth and delicious and the guacamole had just the right ratio of salty/sour taste. The service was great; I got to practice my Spanish with our kind waitress, who followed up with us frequently, filling our waters, etc. When our food came, we had an absolute FEAST. I ordered the Quesadilla Deluxe- filled with Shrimp, mushrooms, and onions, something I had never tried before but absolutely LOVED! It tasted just as great the next day as a left over meal as well.
