This place surprised me. We stopped in for dinner after a long drive. It was a Saturday night and we were seated right away. They give you a choice of spicy or mild salsa with complimentary chips. We preferred the spicy. There isn't too much heat. I ordered the Pollo Asado and requested no queso. I have a feeling this restaurant caters to the preference for queso to smother everything in this area of the country. The menu even notes a $2.50 up charge for extra queso. My pollo was piping hot and tender. Very delicious. I enjoyed the Spanish rice and refried beans with smooth guacamole and pico with pickled jalapeños on the side. An order of tortillas is also provided with this meal. The guacamole had a good flavor with lemon and salt as the main accents. It was fresh and not at all yeasty. My girls mentioned they prefer the chunkier guacamole but I was happy with this. So many places serve badly seasoned, old, or yeasty guacamole. One of my girls got the Jalisco burrito and couldn't stop raving about how good it was. She said the shrimp was cooked perfectly and we had a debate over who had the best protein at the table. The portions were very large. We took half home. This was a laid back casual restaurant with friendly wait staff that took care of these weary travelers. We left happy and full.

I ordered tacos for takeout with a margarita while waiting. Margarita was great as always. The food was delicious and abundant. Tacos came with rice and beans and their salsa for the tacos was AMAZING! My bf and I LOVED the heat on it and loved the tacos. Will come again!

This was my second visit, its always pretty empty when i go. The food was good, the drinks have been well the times i have ordered ( $5 margaritas daily ). Today my friend wanted birria tacos and they seem to be the only place around with them. She order the lamb birria tacos ( they had beef as well ) i ordered the lunch acc ( $8 ) and we both got a side of queso. Overall, great experience.

2 small cups of salsa. We should have rec'd 3, plis an extra one we ordered & paid for.

Always hoping for the best, we decided to try this location - mainly because the restaurant had been added to TakeOut Triad delivery service. Alas, the results were not good, not good at all! The Salsa conainers were the smallest I've ever seen, and we ordered extra at $1.50 - ended up with 3 bags of chips and 2 itsy, bitsy containers of salsa - not at all cool. In addition, the Special Burrito ($4) was a complete no show - but the charge was very visible. The Ground Beef Quesadilla Verde ($7.75) was burnt - check the picture - it tasted like burnt toast. The Chili Relleno ($2.60) was a greasy mess - again the picture. The Chile Colorado ($10.50) was a very small portion for the price, and was bland, overcooked & chewy. The 3 hard Beef Taco ($4.25) were simply ok, and the 3 Chicken Enchiladas ($5.50) were the best of the bunch, but still on the dry side. What a train wreck of an order - overpriced, overcooked, overlooked, undersized - totally underwhelmed!!! NOTE: This review was posted in Jan 2014 to the La Bamba location on State Street. I ordered thru Take Out Triad and assumed the order was thur the State Street restaurent. I appologize for that mistake, and have corrected it.

I've been coming to la bamba for years. Their food is consistently good and their service is great. One of my favorite things here is their spinach quesadilla- they put a good amount of spinach in it and they add some pico de gallo! You really can't go wrong with anything here. I would say that I wish their rice and bean portions were a bit bigger. Their salsa is spicy but has a good, fresh flavor. It certainly doesn't taste like tomatoes straight from the can, like some other places I've been to. Their guacamole is smooth and creamy, which is nice! Their cheese dip is very good. My favorite thing here is their pico de gallo. It is the freshest I've ever had at a restaurant. I always get a large container to-go of it, and it doesn't get watered down as I eat off of it over 3 or 4 days. It's fabulous! When you come here, you know what you're going to get. Their consistency, fast service and good food is why I like this place.

Update for our 2026 annual visit:…read more We ate in this year and the service and ambiance matched the quality of the food we had last year. I have been looking forward to the World Ninja Championships so that I can eat here again and the team did not disappoint. I had the special, chilaquiles supreme and YES! Flank steak butterflied and so tender that I cut through it easily with a butter knife. They make the chips fresh for each order of chilaquiles and you can taste it. Generous amounts of every flavor that went into the meal and I left stuffed! Hands down, my favorite place and I have a feeling we are making a second trip here this year for sure! First impression as you walk in, or look at images of the menu: AUTHENTIC! First impressions when you bite into your food: They nailed the first impression! I had the lingua, tripa, pez, and Pastor tacos. My family had the California burrito, chicken and beef tacos, and the Enchiladas Mexicanos with mole and salsa verde. We also added a side of guac and chips. Guac: thin mixed avocado and perfectly sized chunks mixed in with the tomato and seasonings. An absolute must! The 4 tacos I ate were succulent to say the least. The tripa was thin and crispy, but you could taste the rendered fat in them. It had the texture of perfectly cooked bacon. Al pastor is one of my favorites and this one did not disappoint. Then there was the pez taco that was just the right amount of crispy without being an iota overcooked. At last I ate the lingua taco. It melted in my mouth and I immediately wanted another. I don't even like mole sauce, but I couldn't stop eating the mole enchilada. Aces, hands down. The California burrito was phenomenal and had the perfect amount of each ingredient and a delectable amount of heat and sweet cream sauce. The chicken was obviously hand shredded and had equal amounts of larger chunks of meat and thin pulled pieces to soak up all the flavor in endless nooks and crannies. If you have not been here please do your palate a flavor and stop in. The value far exceeded the price of our meals and we plan on coming here every year when the World Ninia finals rome to town

True to its namesake, there are brightly colored folk art designs throughout the restaurant in line with their Mexican heritage. The trees that make it look overgrown from the outside actually serve to allow sunlight while masking the surrounding city, facilitating the transformation that makes you feel like you're in Mexico City. We came at an off-peak time in the afternoon and it was nearly empty. We were seated immediately and the service was prompt and attentive. I was pleased to see some unique menu offerings like Birra Ramen and Sopes that deviate from the standard American-friendly fare in most places. Drinks were good - we had a regular house margarita, a triple berry margarita, and a jalapeño cucumber margarita. All were tasty and I would order again. I tried to order a Mezcalita, since it's not often I see a Mezcal option, but they were out of that particular liquor. We tried to get street corn as an appetizer, which they were also out of. We got cheese and salsa with chips instead. The chips were hot and fresh, the salsa generous with the cilantro, and the cheese bold and warm. For entrees we had the Al Pastor Quesadilla and the Birra Ramen. The quesadilla was good, though the beans on the side were pretty bland. The ramen was a unique and very tasty option, and I was not able to finish such a generous portion. I think I'd leave the cheese out next time since it made some weird textures, but the flavor was great overall. Overall, there are some small things to improve (having menu items in stock, bland beans) and the prices were a bit high, but we had a great experience overall. I'm not often in the area, but I'll certainly eat here again if I am!

I got the lunch ACP, which was quick to come out, and a first for me, it was served with choice of corn or flour tortillas...I opted for flour. The food tasted great, and portion size was perfect, honestly, probably a little more than I should have eaten for lunch, but it will tide me over until dinner. Definitely worth checking out. I ended up placing a to-go order off of GrubHub so I have no idea how the service was or how the ambience was so I will have to get back to you on that, but I can tell you that the Quesabirria pizza with that consomme' is chef's kiss. The delivery was quite fast so the food was still fresh. They absolutely stuffed it with meat, cheese and the consumme' was perfect. It's like they skimmed the fat off the top of it so it's not too fatty and it came with Green salsa and red salsa. I ordered a side of sour cream which I absolutely did not need and wish I would have ordered queso but I'll have to do that next time. There was music playing in the background. It was a at a good volume to not have to yell in conversation. I've ordered the birria tacos for delivery but this was my first dine-in experience here. My friend ordered the birria tacos and I decided on the ACP - chicken & steak. They place the queso on the side in a cup. They advertised the margaritas and had a special for $5.99 on regular margaritas. They do offer bottled water & other drinks if you prefer other options as well. My chicken had a good flavor and the rice was cooked nicely and not mushy! Maybe some of the best rice I've had in a while at a Mexican restaurant. The steak had good flavor but I would have preferred a juicier bite there. Not quite jerky but drier than I wanted. My friend really enjoyed her tacos and they came out steaming. Parking can be limited, as it is a smaller lot. The service was good and we were checked on often. Overall, I'll be back to try more options and see what weekly specials they have available.

It did not need any flashiness or grandeur- just some good food and good vibes. Now the food: WOW I was blown away by the pork belly garlic fried rice. The pork belly was so incredibly fatty and perfectly crispy, the shrimp add-on was juicy and well seasoned, and the fried egg over a bed of DELICIOUS steamy garlicky fried rice was absolutely perfection.
