It's a Mexican place so you can guess what the food taste like. However the people are really nice and make sure to always check up on you.

Was visiting and my friend said let's do Mexican. I'm always down for Mexican so we went to La Cocina. I asked her what she normally gets and she said she has never had a bad meal here. I decided to try the ACP ultimate, which had steak, chicken and shrimp with cheese. At her suggestion I got the cheese on the side because she said it's too much. I should've got it on the plate, not sure if they skimped because it was on the side but it wasn't enough. It was however plenty of food(meat) I could've done with less meat and more rice; especially since the steak was over cooked and dry. The shrimp was cooked nicely and the chicken was mixed with some dry and some fresh. My fried deciders on the birria tacos and said she takes back about everything being good. I have never seen birria tacos look so pale and no consommé. She ended up eating the meat out of the flour tortillas. It's a nice place, I would give them one more try if I'm in the area. Great food! And the environment is really fun. Our server was kinda busy at first, but the service picked up after a while. Everyone got margaritas and they were really strong! I love that they have virgin drinks for children and those who don't drink. They were on top of keeping chips on the table. Recently we had La Cocina last minute for take out in hopes it would satisfy our craving. I've had them before but tonight I felt like they were off. The chips tasted a little aged and I'm big on tortilla chips. The service I can't really speak on because again the food was a pick up order. If there was an option to leave zero stars I would do that for this experience. We were barely greeted walking inside the restaurant. Our server was incredibly rude. We ordered our food and she brought us a side of something we didn't order. Then proceeded to become upset when I mentioned it to her. She never asked us if we needed anything else or how the food was. My daughters ACP looked like it was still raw. Rice was hard and dry. So we paid and left it on the table. One of my go-to spots to meet my parents for dinner who live in Durham since I live in Greensboro! Favorite Mexican restaurant in Burlington and easy access right off Huffman Mill road plus plenty of parking being connected to the old mall. Service is always great and the food is too!! Their salsa isn't too thick, could probably use a little more chunky tomato's or onions but still tasty and pro tip - we always ask for pico de Gallo on the side to add and it's always super fresh! Plus have a hot salsa option that's definitely fire to your mouth! I always get one of their combos (I prefer their beef or cheese over their shredded chicken)or chicken fajitas and my mom loves their shrimp dishes or good ol' enchilada and taco combo. My dad loves their different big burritos! They treat you like family when you come, always willing to accommodate your order and are always on top of their stuff when it comes to keeping your chips & salsa and drinks filled!! First time here, and it'll be our last time here. Food was ok -- 3 stars for that, but there are plenty of 4+ star Mexican/Latin places in the area that do a lot better. Service. Was. Awful. Absolutely terrible! We didn't see our waiter Cuevas much, although we did see others going back and forth. Drink refills took about 20 minutes, and I waited about 30 minutes before my black bean soup FINALLY arrived. He never did bring the extra salsa we had requested. This guy needs some serious training. Prices were ok, although we were charged $3.24 for some requested tomatoes and sour cream for my wife's tacos (which we only saw once we got our bill--our waiter did not say there would be an extra charge). I had the Avocado Salad and Chicken Soup for Lunch, which was on the light side but still filling. To my surprise the Chicken Soup was absolutely the Very Best I had anywhere in the world. The presentation, aroma and taste could not have been more pleasing. The salad had shredded lettuce topped with avocado, simple, but an excellent light dish. My wife and I usually eat at San Marcos decided to come here today. Best chicken quesadilla I've ever had. Service was fast friendly very clean. Portion size generous and lunch runs around $7. We ate outside and our waiter probably checked on us at least 10 times. I've had to amend my review due to a cardinal sin we experienced on our next visit. On either side of us, people broke out cigarettes and started smoking. Evidently, they have the right to do this in North Carolina. My wife said, "Just finish your food inside." So I have to pick up my half eaten food and carry it inside? I pushed away and left. She yelled at me for "making a scene." But she's never suggested we return. I was disappointed in this place this go round. Usually I have great experiences here with no complaints. The waitress we had was kind of rude to me and some of my family members. The food we had was not all that good and we all ordered different meals. I ordered the ACP and the chicken was over cooked and dry and I guess after they finished cooking it they let it sit in the back because it was cold by the time I got it. The wings I ordered for my girls had a burnt taste to them like the wings were fried in grease that had been used for too long. The horchata was really good so no complaints there but overall I am hoping that they will do better next time. read more

The food is quick and tastes awesome. It all starts with the guy who literally stands at the door with chips and salsa. As you sit on your table, the next moment that chips are with you. Also, the chips are very crispy and well made, when compared to other mexican restaurants. This is my second visit in one week. Itself means that I liked the food here. And since am out of town, I wanted to taste it before I leave. I ordered Pollo Chipotle. The chicken was delicious and the chipotle sauce added the extra flavor. Being an onions fan, the food had enough onions to add that little sweetness in every bite. The food was quick, and i was out in like 45 mins. Honestly, they have pretty nasty food and I would honestly advise others to eat at more tasty restaurants.

First off, I have never been inside a Mexican "Restaurant." They are usually sticky shacks with minimal service. La Cocina is a real restaurant. The tables are wobbly but the service is quick. There is a bar with a TV and PLENTY of space. To start, you get unlimited chips with salsa. They will give you cheese sauce upon request! My girlfriend and I ordered the Chicken/Shrimp/Beef Fajita plate. For $12.50, you get enough food to feed 4 people. Just order an extra two set of tortillas (for $0.45) and it's an incredibly balanced dish. It's not a super-fancy place and it's expensive compared to Chipotle, but it's a nice place to bring your friends. read more

The portions are huge, the service has always been top notch, the quality of the food is as good as it gets. One thing, we never go here or to any other restaurant when they are overly crowded. We showed up this morning at 1125, before the lunch and the after church rush, These guys serve an absolutely phenomenal number of covers, especially on the weekends, and I want no part of that. I wish that I could tell you that I can devote the same time and devotion to tickets when they are piled up, but I cannot, and I figure most others are the same. We like to get there when everyone is fresh, starting the shift, not dealing with the mind blowing number of tickets, and ready to serve. Came here for an impromptu Mother's Day lunch (very fitting, I know..) because the place we originally wanted to go to was super packed and didn't do reservations...and we were hungry!! La Cocina had NO wait time at all! The place is spacious and even though we were a somewhat-large party of 8, there was no problem getting a table right when we walked in. The servers were very nice and got our drinks and salsa ready right away. There were a couple salsas available, including a very hot one which the whole table was a fan of. Yummy! And the chips arrived to us very warm, which was great. I ordered the carnitas verdes and I thought that this pork would be of the pulled variety, but it came out in big chunky cubes, covered in verde sauce. I'm not big on thick cuts of meat, and it was tough and not tasty. My mother got the shrimp diablo and that was pretty good, but that's the only entree out of 8 people that was above standard. They also offer the standard trillion Mexican lunch burrito/quesadilla/taco/enchilada combos. Nothing special at all. Did La Cocina fill me up on typical Mexican food? Yes. Would I come again? Nothing ground breaking here, but solid Mexican-American food. It's located in a Mall, but don't let that deter you. Despite a large crowd, seating was pretty swift. Chips and salsa came right away, and both tasted fresh and home-made. I ordered the camarónes de diablo and the dish was satisfying and filling. Not too hot, but a bit spicy. The carne asada at the Mebane location comes with grilled green onions and a deep fried jalapeno, at the mall location it came with diced white onion and a pickled jalapeno. This is my favorite Mexican place ever! I'm so sad to be graduating and moving away. I came here accidentally freshman year and now I come here at least once a week during the semester. This is my go to place with numerous friends and we wouldn't even think about going anywhere else. The staff is great and a lot of them know me by now. They are also super great either my allergies (peanuts, nuts, & shellfish). Their chips and salsa are amazing and every time I come to this place I definitely go through at least two baskets (even if there are only two of us). The queso is also amazing. I cannot remember the last time I ordered queso here and didn't finish it quickly. If you come here you have to get the queso. Also I'm new to guacamole but this place has good quac as well. I also love their margaritas. I order the Texan margarita and it's definitely worth the extra few dollars. I've come here just to drink margs and eat chips and queso. This place is my go to at Elon and I'll be sad to leave but I will always return to this restaurant for sure when I visit. read more

I'm not a huge fan of chain Mexican food, but I do love margaritas, and at La Cocina the margs are STRONG, so I'd find myself here often in college. The food is pretty decent, I personally wouldn't come just for the food but I do always order when I'm here for drinks. The staff is really friendly as well, though sometimes they struggle to be attentive to their tables and check in on you in a timely manner. I had a very scary experience here. I came in for lunch and ordered a number 6 on the regular dinner menu. This included a beef enchilada and taco and rice and beans. On my second bite into the enchilada, I felt something hard. When I pulled it out of my mouth, it turned out to be a staple!! There was a STAPLE in the enchilada!!! The "New" La Cocina is inside of Holly Hill Mall. Very spacious inside, it's great for large groups or family get-togethers. Drink specials almost every night, a great lunch selection and fast service make this the Mexican restaurant to try for the locals or if you're passing by on the interstate. read more
