    Great ambiance.

Superb. The value is surpassed only by the food--delicious--and the service is pleasant and everything it should be and more. Really happy I found this place for lunch and one day I'll try it for supper. Very well done.

What a nice small restaurant. The ambience was very quaint with the entire restaurant floor carpeted and has a real homey feel. We tried the Tunisian stew and their specialty couscous platter with a multitude of meats, including a shish kebab stick Tunisian sausage chicken and the couscous. This was preceded by house salads with your choice of dressing. Would definitely return to try their escargot sometime. The service was impeccable with a very friendly and attentive staff.

5 stars!! A little small restaurant on northern blvd. Easy to miss but so delicious!! We came during restaurant week and had no expectations. Everything was delicious. There is parking located in the back of the restaurant which is fantastic. The small restaurant easily filled up for dinner. I would definitely try to make reservations ahead of time. The portion sizes were surprisingly large. The seafood pasta was delicious! They were also very accommodating to our two young children on the table. A must try!

This place is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I've gone a few times with my wife and it never fails to please. We always order from the twilight menu, which is an amazing deal that includes salad, an appetizer, an entree, dessert, and coffee/tea for less than $40 a head (though you can upgrade some dishes for 5-6 bucks). The atmosphere is very homey, which I love. This is true for the art on the wall to the silverware. After coming here a few times now, this is a collective review of what'd I've had thus far: First there's the salad, which comes with what seems like a homemade dressing. I've had the Italian and the blue cheese, both of which were great. I don't normally get blue cheese dressing for anything but wings but this was so light and creamy that I loved it. In terms of appetizers: the French Onion Soup was delicious, potent on flavor of onions and herbs and topped with a thick layer of melted cheese. The quiche Lorraine had a great buttery flavor and perfect balance of cheese, ham, and bacon. I also tried the pate, which is normally not my thing, but this was pretty mild. It still wasn't my thing but it was worth trying and not so bad. There are a few entrees I've tried. My favorite by far is the hanger steak. It has a nice char flavor and was cooked perfectly medium rare. This might not be apparent in my picture but it clearly tasted perfect in every bite. The lamb chops were tender and the garlic sauce was flavorful, more so than I expected. I also had a few bites of the veal with roasted apples when I came here with a cousin, and I def would order it for myself some time. Also, the veggies and crispy potatoes served with these entrees are also pretty delicious and balance well with main course. The desserts are all of great quality, and a favorite mainly comes down to preference. My favorite is the cheesecake. Overall, this is a great spot with wonderful service and it'll likely get more packed every day as word gets around. I highly recommend it and plan to be somewhat of a regular here.

This restaurant is a great spot for a date night. It's a small restaurant who really pays attention to the details in their food. It's easily missed when driving or walking by but it's worth making a trip and reservation to visit and try. It is very worth coming for the Twilight dinner menu. It's a 3 course meal: appetizer, entree, and dessert for less than $40 per person! It's an amazing deal, especially for the area. The structure and menu and decor brings me back to my experience in France. The food had flavor but not too salty. We were so full afterwards. Everyone starts with a complimentary salad then the chosen appetizer is served. The green sauce with the mussels is so addicting and perfect for garlic lovers. The duck is cooked well and not overdone. The orange flavor sauce is quite strong and I felt it was a little overpowering but it wasn't too sweet which was delicious. The pear tart had almonds in it so nut allergy people should be aware of. Otherwise, lots of pear slices baked in the tart. Not too sweet. I would recommend small groups to come and try if they're looking for something a little different or special.

Not our first sold out Valentines Day fixed price dinner at La Baraka. Still a small, spirited, charming French restaurant with a home made feel and the now much older sweet couple who run it and welcome you, Edith Piaf songs, French plates and posters on the wall, some traditional French dishes, soups and desserts, courteous service.

This restaurant is so good! I went for twilight dinner and had the entree with and upgrade for the onion soup. Highly recommend the soup- The main course was boeuf bourguignon, which was very tasty. For dessert there was a strawberry mousse, which was very light and sweet. The prices are almost too good to be true once you bite into your food, especially with the twilight dinner special. Overall this place has such a homey feel, the service is fast, and the food is very, very good. Check them out!

Celebrating a big life event at home these days means stepping up our delivery game and going for one of the pricier places. La Baraka fit the bill for that last week! We had major issues with the Doordash app - not La Baraka's fault, from what we can tell - so we were able to get only most of what we had originally intended. I'd say for the price, it's a little underwhelming, but it was a still a solid meal. The lamb chops were cooked and seasoned well, and my partner's shrimp dish was pretty good but a little over cooked. The Ramequin Au Fromage was an awesome starter - even in the delivery container - though I'd skip the sausages next time. They seemed a little dry and pretty small for the price. Cheesecake was standard, though it's nice they have a special that includes a dessert. Glad we tried it out!

I saved my 143rd review for this magical restaurant. My wife and I first came here 18 years ago, before YELP even existed. She studied the French language, but had never been to a French Restaurant, so I surprised her by taking her to La Baraka. It was a small, but elegant dining room with table cloth and tasteful decorations all around. It was run by a friendly French couple: Jean-Luc and Lucette. We liked it so much that we had our first baby shower here. We also had our baby girl's first birthday here, where we booked the entire restaurant with friends and family and brought in a string quartet to serenade her. Those were precious and beautiful memories. On what would have been my beautiful wife's 42nd birthday, I came back here with our daughter, who is now 16. The dining room is exactly as I remembered it. I showed Lucette pictures from our party 18 years ago and she seemed to remember us. Ambience: The dining room is quiet and cozy yet elegant in a way. It transported me to a quieter, happier time. It is somewhere you would take your date to impress her or take your lovely wife to reflect on a wonderful life together. The servers speak French, so you can practice your French or use the English subtitles on the menus. Food: Where do I begin? Escargot - this is a mixed bag. Some shells had a substantial piece of escargot inside, while others had very little. The flavor was succulent (3/5) Mussels - Juicy and flavorful. (5/5) Canard L'Orange - crispy skin, tender juicy duck meat. (5/5) Cotes D'agneau - Lamb chops! This is instagram worthy. Nice platting. The taste was spot on. (5/5) Gateau Au chocolat - chocolate cake. Mmmm. (4/5) Strawberry mouse cake - a little tangy, but sweet. (4/5) Creme Caramel - ordered one for my wife's birthday, and sang happy birthday to her. Hope she's looking down on me with a smile...(5/5) Service: Very friendly staff, who go out of their way to help you figure out what you want. TL/DR: Magical French restaurant which will always hold a fond place in my heart.

Food was okay. Interesting flavors. Definitely more on the subtle side. For my palate, it was a bit bland. Duck was cooked really well. Lamb chops were probably the best thing we had ordered. Would definitely order the mussels again as well. Service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming staff. Seemed like they get a lot of regular customers. I'm glad I tried it once.

This is beef tajine, their most popular dish. Not totally sure what's in the dish aside from meat and veggies and possibly cinnamon.

As authentic as you can get it, this Moroccan restaurant checks all the boxes for a hidden gem in Kyoto, a definite must try for anyone. Even those who may not have a taste for Arab food, there is a certain sweetness in this dish that one cannot overlook the deliciousness of. Decor gives off a very calm and friendly atmosphere. The service was great and the chef and his wife can share about where he's from and the significance of their dishes in African culture.

Ask the Community - La Baraka

Is there a small private dining room for 10/12 persons?

No. It's a relatively small place, like nice-sized living room.

Is this restaurant kid friendly? I read on Google a review that they kinda turn away a couple with a 2 y.o.

The couple who own the place are lovely, gracious people. That said, I wouldn't bring a two-year old here.

I wish it wasn't just a special but a main stay because I'd definitely order that each and every visit. It was that good. I was apprehensive about the gnocchi since im not a big gnocchi fan in general but so many people have sung of it's praises so I decided to try it. Easily one of the best dishes I've had this year. The flavors were so perfectly balanced. It taste of the toasted sweet potato gnocchi was something I didn't expect but was pleasantly surprised. Kept it more simple for entrees because the starters were so rich and indulgent. We had the filet mignon and the steak sandwich. Both perfectly portioned and delicious. Ended with the stroopwafel cheesecake, it wasn't too sweet which was nice. The service was great, I love how the manger was so hands on and checking in with tables. There was an older couple nearby celebrating their anniversary and the manager came over and surprised them with a mini bottle of champagne and congratulated them. That really was so thoughtful! There's also a separate lounge and bar area if you want to skip the formal dining room and just want light tapas and drinks. Their website says everything is made in house including the desserts. I had dinner here once before but it's been a hot minute since (my pre-Yelp days). This visit was for a friend's birthday and I wanted to introduce French cuisine to her. It was a brisk night out but nice and warm inside. Parking lot is located in the rear of the shopping plaza where this restaurant is located. Onto the food: we started with cocktails and ordered wine to pair with our dinner. For starters, we ordered the poached artichoke gratinee. The presentation was quite pretty, seasoned with chives, parsley, and Parmesan crumbs. I love most foods with cheese! Not shy about that! We also ordered the Hudson Valley foie gras, paired with a port poached pear and honey served with a cranberry brioche. It's an acquired taste that I really enjoy but if you're not into liver, then this dish is not for you. My friends never had foie gras so I ordered this to introduce it to them. This was also the swap since they didn't want escargot (overplayed by reputation for the cuisine). The third appetizer we chose was the crispy octopus. So many flavors in that plate, think olives, red pepper hummus and potatoes served with it. This was a great shareable dish and the dish was delicious as well as appetizing. For dinner: we shared all three entrees, 1) Herb crusted Rack of lamb, which I ordered medium temp. Divine! 2) Veal Chatelaine had a nice chestnuts and sherry sauce, very tender, and 3) Filet of Sole en croute, which the fish was moist and tucked inside the pastry shell. A bit thicker pastry than expected but the first was nicely seasoned. For dessert as I said, it was a friends' birthday...so despite all that food, we ordered three desserts to share as well. The Pistachio Tartufo, the Tiramisu and the creme brulee. All were delicious for the flavor profiles they were but I definitely preferred the creme brulee. The Pistachio Tartufo was really good - packed a lot of flavor. The tiramisu was light and airy.
