We took a drive to check out their French lunch buffet. It's not an offering I have heard about ever, so I was really excited to see and eat! We found a charming and lovely restaurant with delightful French cooking. The deal really can't be beat. The small buffet area was ample both with options and flavor! She asked if we wanted a salad and choice of soups that they had for the day. They were brought out from the kitchen with a basket of rolls. We chose the creme of leeks soup. So warm and comforting! On the buffet: Turkey meatballs Chicken Dijon sauce Mussels & Clams Garlic sauce Also some sliced and cubed cheese were out on the buffet. For dessert they had small portions of bread pudding to help yourself to. We ate until we could eat no more! Marie was very kind and attentive. We were not rushed at all. I had a really good time dining in at La Baraka. I always passed by the store but never really got the chance to go in. I'd been reading the reviews, following the restaurants social. I ordered UberEats from them before and was blown away by the tremendous offerings and generous portions. I decided to dine in and it was even better! The restaurant is located on the busy Northern Blvd between Morgan and Glenwood. The inside has a 19th century French ambiance, decorated with French posters, carpeted floors and a cozy warm dining area. Don't worry about the never ending traffic noise, commotion , and construction coming from outside. The calm and peaceful ambiance along with the music playing in the restaurant canceled out all the exterior noise. I opted in for their lunch buffet, which offered a ton of food for an amazing $18.95 deal which you can hardly find in this day and age. The restaurant gave a nice basket of warm bread with a generous amount of butter in a ramekin followed by a really good Tunisian salad with a little bit of everything. (fresh greens, cooked carrots, chickpea salad, diced cucumbers peppers and their take on the Ratatouille-- really good) I was given the option of getting their daily soup or the French Onion Soup with an up charge. I took the French option soup without any hesitation. Last time I had a good French onion soup was back when I attended college in upstate. Glad I got to try the one from here. The onion soup has an abundance of flavor with a generous amount of melted cheese and onions. The buffet selections were at the table. It came with two entrees (a chicken and a beef) cooked vegetables, mussels, mixed rice, cheese selection and slices bread cake. The entrees vary each day so be sure to call in and check. The chicken was moist, and juicy, served with a mushroom gravy. Similar to a Chicken Marsala dish. The stewed beef with mushrooms was nice and soft. The veggies included carrots and onions. The mussels were cooked to perfection, simmered in a nice buttery sauce. The meal also includes a cup of coffee or tea. What a great way to finish the meal. Marie was super nice and friendly. My husband and I came here for my birthday which happens to be a week before Valentine's Day, so it was decorated with that theme. We drove there and found easy street parking. The staff were very friendly throughout our evening and the staff even offered more free bread which my husband loved. And it was good - fresh and warm. We also took advantage of getting one of their $30 bottles of wine and it was quite good. The majority of their wine list is French wine, which is great, because they definitely isn't always the case with French restaurants. The French onion soup was quite good. So was the filet au poive. We tried the Tunisian stew and their specialty couscous platter with a multitude of meats, including a shish kebab stick Tunisian sausage chicken and the couscous. I'll start with the service. Service was absolute 5 stars. There were two people who helped us with seating as well as orders. Both were very sweet and great with explaining the menu. Our main waitress was very attentive. Came frequently to fill our water and when asked if there's hot water she came back to us with that in less than 3 min. Even apologized when the Fruit tart I ordered was not available and offered other dessert options that's not on the restaurant week menu as a substitute. Shame on some reviewers for saying the more senior waitress is mean to customers. She was nothing but sweet to our table as well as others. When she's observing the tables in the corner she's not smiling profusely 24/7 like she's high on something but who is? When she's actually interacting with customers she had a nice calm tone with a gentle smile. What more can you ask for. Ambiance was nice. This is a nice small restaurant with a very comfortable homey feeling to it. Appetizers Quiche Epinard (spinach quiche) - Not a fan. My single complaint was that the spinach flavor can be more potent. The pastry itself was very buttery and flaky yes but I would've preferred more spinach flavor as spinach was maybe.... 1% of the taste. Moules Farcies (stuffed mussels, garlic, parsley, butter) - This was great. Even my wife who normally does not like mussels loved this one. The mussels themselves were light and did not have that sea/seawater flavor. The combination of garlic, parsley, and butter gave them a great upgrade as well. Can't wait to try their escargot next time. Entrées Onglet Grille (hanger steak with bearnaise sauce) - My wife asked for medium well. It seemed more like we'll done. Ironically the steak was still extremely tender and not dry at all so we did not raise the concern. The portion was nice as well. We couldn't finish and had to bring the rest home. The next day I reheated it with a small bowl of water on the side in the microwave to prevent it from drying out. It was still just as tender as the day before. Steak itself has a really nice fresh beefy flavor to it. The bernaise sauce was okay. Not much flavor to that. Could do with or without. Truite Almondine (filet trout, almonds, lemon) - Starting off the fish itself is very nice. It reminds me of the deep fried flounders served in Chinese seafood/dim sum restaurants. The nice crispy fish skin on the outside while the fish meat on the inside is tender and flaky. Very very nice. Some parts towards the center was a tad dry but the almonds with the oil completely solves that issue as long as you eat them together. Lemon also adds a refreshing taste to it. Great combination. Desserts Gâteau au Chocolat (chocolate truffle cake) - Personally not a chocolate person but my wife liked it. Caramel Flan - It's hard to review this one. I want to say this was the least sweet caramel dessert I've ever eaten. Coming from a Chinese person that's probably the best dessert compliment one can give lol. Typically with caramel anything out there the item would be on the much sweeter side compared to non caramel options. Ironically this flan had a very light caramel flavor all around while being even less sweet than the chocolate cake if I recall. Also at the bottom the crystallized layer was a tad bitter. This place is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I've gone a few times with my wife and it never fails to please. We always order from the twilight menu, which is an amazing deal that includes salad, an appetizer, an entree, dessert, and coffee/tea for less than $40 a head (though you can upgrade some dishes for 5-6 bucks). The atmosphere is very homey, which I love. This is true for the art on the wall to the silverware. After coming here a few times now, this is a collective review of what'd I've had thus far: First there's the salad, which comes with what seems like a homemade dressing. I've had the Italian and the blue cheese, both of which were great. I don't normally get blue cheese dressing for anything but wings but this was so light and creamy that I loved it. In terms of appetizers: the French Onion Soup was delicious, potent on flavor of onions and herbs and topped with a thick layer of melted cheese. The quiche Lorraine had a great buttery flavor and perfect balance of cheese, ham, and bacon. I also tried the pate, which is normally not my thing, but this was pretty mild. It still wasn't my thing but it was worth trying and not so bad. There are a few entrees I've tried. My favorite by far is the hanger steak. It has a nice char flavor and was cooked perfectly medium rare. This might not be apparent in my picture but it clearly tasted perfect in every bite. The lamb chops were tender and the garlic sauce was flavorful, more so than I expected. I also had a few bites of the veal with roasted apples when I came here with a cousin, and I def would order it for myself some time. Also, the veggies and crispy potatoes served with these entrees are also pretty delicious and balance well with main course. The desserts are all of great quality, and a favorite mainly comes down to preference. My favorite is the cheesecake. Overall, this is a great spot with wonderful service and it'll likely get more packed every day as word gets around. I highly recommend it and plan to be somewhat of a regular here. read more

It's easily missed when driving or walking by but it's worth making a trip and reservation to visit and try. It is very worth coming for the Twilight dinner menu. It's a 3 course meal: appetizer, entree, and dessert for less than $40 per person! It's an amazing deal, especially for the area. The structure and menu and decor brings me back to my experience in France. The food had flavor but not too salty. We were so full afterwards. Everyone starts with a complimentary salad then the chosen appetizer is served. The green sauce with the mussels is so addicting and perfect for garlic lovers. The duck is cooked well and not overdone. The orange flavor sauce is quite strong and I felt it was a little overpowering but it wasn't too sweet which was delicious. Celebrating a big life event at home these days means stepping up our delivery game and going for one of the pricier places. La Baraka fit the bill for that last week! We had major issues with the Doordash app - not La Baraka's fault, from what we can tell - so we were able to get only most of what we had originally intended. I'd say for the price, it's a little underwhelming, but it was a still a solid meal. The lamb chops were cooked and seasoned well, and my partner's shrimp dish was pretty good but a little over cooked. The Ramequin Au Fromage was an awesome starter - even in the delivery container - though I'd skip the sausages next time. They seemed a little dry and pretty small for the price. This restaurant is so good! I went for twilight dinner and had the entree with and upgrade for the onion soup. Highly recommend the soup- The main course was boeuf bourguignon, which was very tasty. For dessert there was a strawberry mousse, which was very light and sweet. The prices are almost too good to be true once you bite into your food, especially with the twilight dinner special. I saved my 143rd review for this magical restaurant. My wife and I first came here 18 years ago, before YELP even existed. She studied the French language, but had never been to a French Restaurant, so I surprised her by taking her to La Baraka. It was a small, but elegant dining room with table cloth and tasteful decorations all around. It was run by a friendly French couple: Jean-Luc and Lucette. We liked it so much that we had our first baby shower here. We also had our baby girl's first birthday here, where we booked the entire restaurant with friends and family and brought in a string quartet to serenade her. Those were precious and beautiful memories. On what would have been my beautiful wife's 42nd birthday, I came back here with our daughter, who is now 16. The dining room is exactly as I remembered it. I showed Lucette pictures from our party 18 years ago and she seemed to remember us. Ambience: The dining room is quiet and cozy yet elegant in a way. It transported me to a quieter, happier time. It is somewhere you would take your date to impress her or take your lovely wife to reflect on a wonderful life together. For more than a year our son has been after us to try this amazing Saturday buffet lunch. The parking around here looks iffy, so we just took the #12 bus, then an easy walk to the restaurant. The stucco walls and French posters made us feel immediately at home, as did the owner who filled us in on his decades of feeding the hungry hordes of Queens residents. The food was unusually good for any buffet - standouts included the roast chicken, veal stew, and herbed mushrooms. We hope to return some night for their fixed price dinner. Went to La Baraka on a Friday night with my fiance. We made a 7pm reservation, but I'm not sure if that was necessary. It seemed like the place fills up with a lot of locals who know the owners with the occasional newcomers aka us. The place is very charming with lovely and unique decor pieces all around and the right amount of dim lighting for effect without making it difficult to see anything. The customer service was wonderful! Everyone who works there was so attentive and friendly. The bread (except for 1 piece) was warm and soft and delicious. We ordered the set dinner menu (me: the French onion soup, boeuf bourguignon and cheesecake; his: quiche Lorraine, trout with almonds and chocolate mousse) which came to about $43 pp without tax/tip. The French onion soup was my FAVORITE. I mean probably the best French onion soup I've ever had. It was just the right amount of saltiness and had so much cheese on top. I was SOOO happy with this soup - definitely the highlight of the meal. Everything else tasted as expected except the boeuf bourguignon... unfortunately, I found this to be on the bland side and a bit disappointing. The meat was cooked perfectly though, so with a little extra salt on top, I was able to enjoy my meal.
