Was just there celebrating my son's 40th birthday. The burger was the best burger I've had in a very long time. The service was terrific, friendly and the place was very clean. And the music was good too! Very nice place, you'll enjoy it!

Perhaps the thing I appreciate most about Petra Rickman, the owner of Bun & Bone, is her drive to take chances and bring stylish, interesting dining to NYC. She has brought us Taco Azul, Ginger and Lemongrass (the Whitestone location was formerly here; now only the downtown Manhattan location remains), and the short-lived Langos Bar - one of her rare misses. Arguably, she has been responsible for making Whitestone a true dining destination. My friends and I visited on Sunday and ordered a variety of dishes to share, which was a great way to sample the new menu. Here is the rundown: Pate: Extremely rich with a solid layer of bone marrow butter. The portion was sizeable, perhaps a bit too much for the two slices of bread provided. Chargrilled Oysters: I was looking forward to these, but they didn't quite hit the mark. I felt the chili, maple butter, bacon rendering, and cheese obliterated rather than complemented the oyster flavor. I'd like to see this tweaked to find a balance that highlights the oyster and captures more of that "char." Moules Frites: A tasty pot of mussels. I need to order these again to give them a fair shake; there were so many strong flavors on the table that I don't think I fully appreciated them this time. Smoked White Bean Soup: A rich, filling soup with a wonderful smoky essence and large chunks of smoked pork rib. French Dip Burger: I expected this to be my favorite, but I actually enjoyed the mushroom burger more. That said, the beef onion broth was very good. Very Mushroom Burger: I am a huge fan of mushrooms on a burger because it amps up the meaty flavor so well. This was a great version. Smoky & Spicy Burger: This had a refreshing tanginess that cut through the richness of the beef perfectly. Shoestring Fries: These came with all the burgers and the mussels. They were the pinnacle of "McDonald's style" fries, which, to me, is the highest form of praise. Smoked Pork Ribs: Fall-off-the-bone tender, smoky, and delicious. We almost didn't order these because we feared it would be too much food, but I'm so happy we did. They were fantastic. The decor is a slightly tweaked version of the Ginger and Lemongrass aesthetic, though the layout remains the same. Service was very good, especially considering they are still in their soft opening period (I always consider the first month a "breaking-in" period). Thank you, Petra, for bringing this delicious change of pace north of the LIE in Queens. It is a spot I see myself frequenting (much to my doctor's dismay). Nearly every dish features decadent, tasty ingredients. I can't wait to try more!

New restaurant concept by the owners of what used to be Ginger & Lemongrass. It is now a Brassiere focusing on meats (burgers) and some seafood. The interior remains the same with many comfortably spaced tables and booths. Service was friendly and attentive. They refilled water and cleared our overfilled table when we were done with a dish. We wanted to try a variety so we shared everything: -Pate: I wish there was more bread as there was really only enough for half the pate. We did ask for more bread and got a couple more slices, we also used some of the bread from the other dishes. The cold butter on top is an odd choice as it was tough to spread, maybe a softened/whipped butter on the side would do better. There also wasn't much garlic flavor in the butter. The pickles (picalilli and corniciones) on the side were great accompaniments to cut the richness of the pate. -Chargrilled Oysters: had a little bit of kick and smokiness, which does overpower the oysters. Good flavor though, but may be better on something stronger in flavor. -Moules Frites: The mussels tasted fresh. The beurre blanc was a bit light in flavor, and could use a lot more garlic. Still, it was good for dipping bread (and fries) into. -Smoked Pork Ribs: had the perfect amount of smokiness and was fall off the bone tender. -Smoked White Bean Soup: a hearty soup with a balance of ingredients in terms of flavor and quantity. The bread really soaks up the broth. It is the same pork ribs as above, so you can really taste the smokiness. We got 3 burgers, cooked medium and we asked for them to be cut in half: -French Dip Burger: good onion flavor, but not my favorite . The bun is so soft and airy that feels like it'll fall apart once it soaks up all the soup. We mostly had the soup separate. The horseradish aioli had the perfect amount of horseradish. -Very Mushroom Burger: the truffle aioli was very truffle-ly which I love. I added it to the burger for extra mushroom flavor. It pairs so well with the patty. -Smoky & Spicy: I enjoyed the crunch from the fried onions. The relish is more spicy and tangy than it is smoky. I enjoyed this either way. The chipotle aioli added a bit more spiciness, though was lighter in flavor compared to the other two aioli, so it was overshadowed. The fries that came with the burgers and moules frites were shoestring fries, which could be crispier. We had a lot leftover, and I ate them later (crisped up some more and they were perfect). I enjoyed dipping them in the aioli and beurre blanc. Overall, happy to see this new restaurant from the owners. The burgers are solid, and they use good quality ingredients. Some minor tweaks and I can see this doing really well! I will definitely be back to try other things on their menu.

I was sad about ginger and lemongrass closing, but this spot made me forget all about them. The vibe is very similar on the inside as they kept some of the original decor pieces and fixtures. We came close to 3pm on the weekend and there were surprisingly a lot of people coming in and out. Since the restaurant is called bun and bone, of course we had to try one of each. We ordered a mushroom burger and the short rib. Both dishes were spectacular. The mushroom burger had a wagyu patty, which was excellent quality. The flavor was really good and of course the truffle fries were a perfect complement. The short rib was very tender and had a delicious sauce. I also loved the texture and creaminess of the mashed potatoes underneath. Given the quality and taste of everything, it was totally worth the price. My only complaint was the service. It was difficult to get any of the waiters' attention. Our watering was not refilled during our meal.

However the crux of my problem was around the fact that we attended for French Restaurant Week, which featured it's on separate menu. While the choices were outstanding, you had to choose two courses between appetizer, entrée and dessert. There was a dessert I had wanted to try, the Paris Brest, but ordered an appetizer and entrée figuring we could pay for the dessert separately. However the dessert was not on the regular dessert menu, so our request was refused. Moreover, I had ordered as an appetizer the Veloutè de Champignons which was listed verbatim as: Truffle Mushrooms, Chive Cream, Toasted Brioche. However it failed to mention the soup was served cold. Not being familiar with French cuisine and it being FRW, which should be assumed to attract folks unfamiliar with French cuisine, and introduce them to it, the menu should have indicated that it was served cold. I never would have ordered it had it been listed as served cold. I'd have shared an app with my dining companion and then shared the Paris Brest. Moreover, an idiosyncrasy of a promotional menu and a rigidly programmed POS (Point of Sale... quell your foul mind ) system should not interfere with customer satisfaction at a restaurant that is otherwise outstanding quality.

We were the only customers dining in but there was a steady line of people picking up food to-go. Service was very friendly and the food was great. I got the French Dip Au Jus and my girlfriend got the Brasserie Burger with mushrooms and Swiss cheese (cooked medium). My niece is 20 months old so we just decided we'd let her have some bites of our food. The food took a little bit to come out, but I guess that means it really is made to order. I started off with the French Dip and it had a decent amount of meat on it. The bread was nicely toasted and the Jus was super flavorful. My niece actually liked it a lot and dipped her french fries in it. Even without the Jus the sandwich meat was moist and flavorful while the bread did a good job of soaking up the juices and adding crunch. The burger was also surprisingly good. The patty was actually cooked to medium so it was also juicy and flavorful. Mushroom and swiss is an undefeated combo on burgers provided the meat is good, and in this case the meat was quite good. Both entrees came with some fries and greens which were average. We also had black coffee with our food which was pretty good. It's on the pricier side, but it seems to be reflected in the quality of the food. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this spontaneous meal. I would certainly come back.

The lighting is dim, the ambiance is intimate, and it looks romantic. I had made reservations so we were seated immediately. It's funny to note that the place settings were placed next to each other instead of across from each other at a four person table. We usually prefer to face each other, but when it's Valentine's day why not be cute? We ordered a few drinks during our dinner, the Sugar Plum Fairy, Memere 75, Avion en papier. My favorite was definitely the Avion en papier which had a slightly sweet, slightly bitter, citrusy taste. They had a pre fixe menu for Valentine's Day which unfortunately did not have the steak tartare i was interested in trying. But for $88, you get 3 courses: an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For our appetizers, we got the TARTARE DE THON (tuna tartare) and COCKTAIL DE CREVETTES GEANTES (shirmp cocktail). Between the two, i preferred the tuna tartare. The shrimp cocktail was good, but the only thing really special about it was the massive size of the shrimp and the freshly grated horseradish in the cocktail sauce. For our entrees, we got the CASSOULET DE CANARD and FILET MIGNON. The extremely tender duck leg confit was served with pancetta, white beans, toulouse sausage, and foie gras breadcrumb. It was rich, savory, fatty, and filling. All great words to describe food. The duck leg confit reminded me a little bit of a smoked turkey leg with the red coloring and shreddable texture. The filet mignon was served with pomme purée, wild mushrooms, and a bordelaise sauce. The filet was cooked medium rare as requested, but a bit under salted. The pomme purée aka mashed potatoes tasted like it was 50% butter so it was obviously delicious. Dessert was good, but my least favorite part of the meal. We got the TAHITIAN VANILLA CRÈME BRÛLÉE and the VALRHONA CHOCOLAT POT AU CRÈME. Both were very sweet. The brûlée crust did not shatter well, but it otherwise had a nice creamy texture. The chocolate pot was covered in flaky feuilletine which gave a nice contrast to the creamy chocolate, but my wife found the brandied cherries overpowering. The cherries made me think of German chocolate cake. Service was excellent. Staff was quick to refill water and checked on us constantly. Pace of the meal was relaxed and I'd even say they were slow to bring us the check since we had been dining for over 2 hours. My wife wants me to bring her back for their bottomless brunch on a Sunday so I will eventually be back.

Although Poughkeepsie has a decent variety of excellent restaurant options, there aren't a lot of upscale places to select from. We opted to book reservations for Brasserie 292 for a Saturday night. When we arrived, we were nearing the end of the dinner rush. We were sat right away, unfortunately it wasn't all too romantic being sat in the middle of the restaurant but understandably the restaurant is on the smaller side. The waiter was attentive, and addressed any of our questions about the menu, even hunting down the bottle of pinot noir we ordered. We opted to start off our night by splitting a half-dozen oysters which came with their in-house hot sauce, and an order of pouple, which was cooked to perfection. For our entrees we selected the red wine braised lamb shank and the dry aged prime NY steak. Since sides for both entrees were not mentioned on the menu, we also ordered sides - wild mushrooms, brussels sprouts and crispy smoked peewee potatoes. Overall the food was excellent and I'm still dreaming about the mushrooms. If we lived locally, would we go back, maybe but overall we had a great experience.
