Unfortunately La Barra is nothing extraordinary, in fact quite disappointing. The location is ideal and the interior is beautiful, but this doesn't make up for the mediocre food and nonexistent service. We came here for my fathers birthday dinner and although we had reservations they still needed to get a table ready......the restaurant was empty. We all sat down, looked at the menu and ordered our food. I ordered the gnocchi and it honestly tasted like gnocchi I could buy at the grocery store and boil in water at home. It was disappointing to say the least. Others ordered the burger and said it was nothing special, definitely not worth the price. My dad who ordered the lasagna ended up finding a hair in his food and told one of the employees who then got the manager. The manager came over, looked at it, apologized, and walked away. That was it. Didn't offer my dad another meal and the manager didn't even tell our waiter what had happened and didn't take the lasagna off the check till we told the waiter what happened. Our waiter was very kind and offered more of an apology than the manager. I know things like hair in food happens, but the fact that there was no communication between staff and no attempt to resolve the issue and make up for their mistake, is what earned La Barra the one star. read more

Terrific food -- the nachos are delicious, great pasta dishes and the pizza is incredible. The atmosphere is family friendly and fun. A great dinner spot or a place to get great food during the day. Will be coming back again! read more

It's 8:22 on Friday night. We walked in and asked for a table of 2. The hostess said we have nothing you can check the bar and then she walked away. She came back and said looks like there is nothing at the bar either. We asked how long the wait was, she said "there's no tables". I asked, "for the rest of the night?" She replied, "yes". They close at midnight. Really unfortunate! We were looking forward to a new local establishment. We will not be back! read more

Had a reservation for a party of 12 on Sunday for a birthday dinner. Got there a little earlier then reservation time and table was already set and got sat immediately. Had been to the one in Oak Brook and didn't realize they had this location. Food was delicious. I want to say that our Server Taylor was wonderful. She was attentive, explained the specials, very personable. I know a table of 12 can be intimidating sometimes but she handled it like a professional. Not the most pleasant experience with service, or the food. Went to la Barra last night for dinner, we got seated right away which was good, but it's all downhill after that. It took our server about 10 minutes to stop by and ask us if we'd like something to drink.... we ordered the fried calamari which was good, and a 14" 2 topping pizza which simply just lacked in flavor, it was very bland. Our pizza arrived we had no napkins, no plates, and no silverware, I had to ask for them from someone else other than our server because she was so inattentive. I was drinking beer while there (2 hours by the way, that's how slow they are there) and my date was drinking the "blue lady" our server must've costed the business at least 30$ by not being attentive because she never came around to see if we wanted more drinks, never asked how the food was, etc. when we were done eating it took at least 15 minutes for her to come back around and bring the check, I simply don't have the patience for that, and I will not be returning back. I haven't had worse service than this in at least 2 years. Maybe it's not her fault and they need to train their employees better. Not to mention : they weren't busy or the bad service would've been semi understandable. read more

This restaurant is welcoming, and the ambiance is upscale. Outdoor patio is fantastic. We love to sit either on the patio, or indoors. The bar is a nice meeting place for friends and comfortable to have a bite to eat too. The pizza is the best we've had in the Chicago area, the appetizers are delicious, and menu dinners, and specials have been consistently good. Even the bread served upon arrival is exceptional! Riverside has long waited for another restaurant in town with solid service and food. It is finally here! And was worth the wait. I have visited a number of times since they opened for dine in and take out, and have been blown away by the quality of food and service. Sure, there have been snafus as they are a new restaurant working out kinks, but they have made up for it by owning up to errors with comped items. I have tried half the menu, and it is all so good. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. This will definitely be our go to spot in the neighborhood! read more

First, full disclosure, I didn't actually eat here (although I sure would like to - place was bustling on a Friday night, great atmosphere and tasty-looking food). I I wanted to leave a review about the great service I had from the hostess and staff working at the takeout window. I was headed out to Westmont this past Friday for a birthday dinner for my boyfriend's father. My Metra ended up getting stuck/delayed for almost three hours just past Cicero. Trying to save a tiny bit of time and salvage at least a small part of my evening, I got off at Riverside and my boyfriend called me an Uber to take me the rest of the way. I told the Uber driver to pick me up at La Barra, but while I was waiting for him, my phone died. I was starting to wonder if he had the correct pick-up spot, so I went inside the restaurant and explained my situation to the hostess. She very quickly hunted down an android charger and took me to a quiet area by the takeout desk to charge it. While I let my phone juice up for a few minutes before turning it back on, my Uber driver arrived. Not seeing me outside, he actually parked and went in the restaurant and asked the hostess if anyone was waiting for a driver - she promptly walked him over to me and I was on my merry way. read more

The did a great job with our carry out order. Even to go the provolone croccante was crispy, hot, like they just were plated in the kitchen! We had the burger, lemon chicken,meatballs and Cacio E Pepe, how I would describe all of them was simple Italian goodness done at a reasonable price with excellent customer service. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. This is our 2nd time here. The first time we came, the service was still a little off, but it was the 2nd day they were open. No issues this time though. We've been here about 5-6 times and each time the service was uneven. Last time we talked to a manager and she assured us they were working on it. Well, tonight was awful. We waited 45 minutes for our salad and almost 1 1/2 hours for the pizza. (It was a Thursday night, they weren't crowded.) Half of our party got their food about 10 minutes before the other half. The pizza is good here but it's not good enough to put up with the service. We won't be going back. read more

service: terrible. food: less than average. Ordered $75 worth of food for carry out. Was told on the phone it would take 15-20 mins; took an hour from time of order until food was ready, after being told several times while I was waiting it would only be a few more minutes. Manager did come out right before the food was ready and removed the cost of 1 of the 4 meals (no explanation for the delay). from what I overheard, they gave my lemon chicken orders to someone else and had to re-make the 2 lemon chicken entrees (while the chicken parmesan and sandwich sat waiting for 40 mins!). lemon chicken was warm when i got home, however, chicken parmesan was just luke warm and they forgot the spaghetti that, according to the menu, was supposed to be served w/the entree. chicken sandwich had cold, soggy fries after sitting for 40 mins while they remade the 2 lemon chickens. they should have re-made the entire order, not just the 2 entrees. I should have just left, but I already paid for the meals! Price: Not worth $18 per entree. won't be back, plenty of other options to choose from. read more

Riverside is lucky to have this place. A welcome change from La Grange. Classy comfortable atmosphere. Ingredients are all fresh and tasty. Obvious great care taken in the preparation of the dishes. The pizza is thin, but packed with ingredients. Our server was pleasant and friendly. We will be back. Plenty of parking close by. read more

La Barra Riverside is a hidden gem in the Chicago suburbs. The Pizza is the best I have had in years, they make you feel like a regular from the second you walk through the doors and the service is out of sight. My wife is a design fanatic and could not stop talking about the decor but my kids feel right at home too. When the patio opens this summer I am sure it will be on the short list of Chicago's best restaurant Patio's! Celebrating a friends birthday. Service was fair, food good but owner/manager decides to turn music up and conversations stopped. Several people at other tables had some reaction we did. I opened a sound app and saw 92db level. I got up from the table and asked owner if he could turn it down to previous level. Update 7/16/17. I am still going to keep this at three stars. This time we didn't have a waiter butt in our face! We went at 7pm on 7/15/17. Our waiter was awesome.....the hostess was an idiot!!! The same hostess that other Yelpers have complained about. La Barra, time to up your game and get rid of that idiot, moronic hostess!! We made reservations through open table and noted we wanted to sit outside. We got there and the ditzy hostess said they don't take reservations for outside tables and it was a 40 minute wait. Umm, you had our phone # when we made the reservations asking for an outside table. How about you get some customer service and call us if we cannot reserve an outside table??? We decided to sit inside, we asked for a booth and twice the moronic hostess she tried to sit us at a table. Then the first booth we sat it was so NOISY FROM THE DANG MUSIC!! I know others have complained about the music level in there. Does La Barra know they are a restaurant and not a music hall or concert venue?? Thankfully when we asked for a different booth, the music there was not as loud. Here is an idea La Barra, how about you don't play music at all or play it at an acceptably low volume. Went to La Barra on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. The place was well staffed with waiters and waitresses helping each other to make sure the customers were taken care of. New for Wednesday was half bottle wine so this was an added bonus for us. Wine selection is good with a nice selection to please most people. The toasted ravioli nachos was a suggestion from our waitress, I know right nachos....They were amazing not like nachos I was thinking of. Beef short rib pieces, melted fontina cheese and giardiniera on top of toasted cheese ravioli, mouth is watering all over again. The Arancini and Mama's meatballs were very good with just enough red sauce for the bread to follow up on. My wife had the Garganelli Panna but as usual wanted to add chicken to the dish which I always think can be a pain for the chef but was easily taken care of with no problem at all. The vodka sauce I had with my pasta was fresh and full of flavor and the fresh slivers of basil put it over the top. The chef here understands the delivery of the dishes along with handling the various requests from the customers. As the restaurant started to fill up, it was obvious that the staff just picked up the pace and what was great to see were the different age groups from families with little kids to older couples that were coming into the restaurant, followed by business people getting off of work from the train station. We had heard this place gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights so we will be prepared, order the wine and our NACHOS at the same time, sit outside or at the bar and enjoy the action. This place will see us again and the small room on the side will be great for our next party...Thanks to Suzanne, the Chef and her staff for the great food and a wonderful evening. read more
