Driving through Chicago I'm trying out different pizza and sub restaurants and I stumbled upon Al's Pizzeria in Riverside/ Broadview. It seemed like one of those mom and pop hole-in-the-wall spots that usually have the best food! I usually do not care about bad customer service, but this was something else. The cashier was too busy hanging out with his friends all behind the counter to acknowledge me properly. No greeting, no welcome--just a flat "What can I get you?" Meanwhile, his friends got better treatment like they were VIPs. I decided to try the meatball sandwich, which turned out to be a joke. It came with two mediocre-sized meatballs on a dry roll that tasted like it was leftover from the day before--tough, crumbly, and hard to bite into. Honestly, I've had better sandwiches at gas stations. The side salad was barely that. Just the woody core of iceberg lettuce with two sad cucumber slices and a cherry tomato thrown in. They did give me a full container of ranch, which was overkill for the salad--but I ended up using it on the slice of sausage pizza I got, so that worked out. Speaking of the pizza--it was okay. Not terrible, but not memorable either. Then again, can you really mess up pizza? All in all, I won't be going back unless it's to give them a second chance to make that sandwich edible. read more

Myself and my fellow nurses ordered a couple pizza's during a rough shift. I haven't had Al's in forever - but remembered it as AMAZING. I even hyped it up over 2 other pizza places that we were deciding between. We ordered a stuffed Italian beef and giardiniera pizza. I was VERY disappointed as i ate a piece and it literally had one piece of giardiniera and a sliver of Italian beef. My co-worker had the same experience with her slice. I feel like we received a stuffed cheeze pizza. We also ordered 2 pieces of chocolate cake at 4.50 each. One piece was small and the other even smaller. Al's has clearly gone downhill and I will not be ordering from there again. read more

I will say the pizza at Al's did not disappoint this time. This was my child's first time eating Al's pizza and they loved it! The phone etiquette could be improved when calling to place an order by the young man who took our order. But when we picked up our order, the young lady was friendly and helpful. 3.5 stars for this local favorite. We have been grabbing Al's for many a year, due to their fabulous family packs. 2-3 of these "packs" can easily feed a family party of 15 or so. This last visit was just to feed our immediate family, though. Two adults and three children led us to ordering a cheese football pizza, garlic bread, cheese fries, and a pepper and egg sandwich. By using their mailer coupon we received $5 off totally $32. Not bad to feed the family and still have leftovers. When I went to pick up they initially overcharged due to them thinking I had ordered an eggplant parm sandwich. No biggie, it was easily corrected and a pepper and egg sandwich was quickly made. The food was fresher than how I remember it. The pizza had a fairly adequate amount of cheese and the sandwich was delicious. The cheese fries were too greasy for my liking. The garlic bread wasn't worth $2.75. All in all, we enjoyed the food as a Friday night quickie dinner. We will return. read more

Haven't tried tried their pizza, basing my review on a couple chicken entrees I tried which I was happy with, generous portions and good quality. What I really enjoyed was the calamari, both grilled and fried. It's one of my favs and every other place I've gone to around here has scrawny, dry, overly fishy smelling pieces. But here they were plump, cooked perfectly, and large portions. Would've taken a photo but ate it right away. This place has really great food. It can be a bit pricey for the fact that they don't even give you french fries with their sandwiches that was about the biggest problem I have with them other than that the foods tasty and the service is normally friendly but for $12, I expect french fries with my sandwich. read more

They have a big menu for no reason the only thing good is the pizza, gelato, and italian ice. I got gnocchi with pesto and I had like 10 pieces of gnocchi and there was just a disgusting pool of "pesto sauce with WAY too much cheese. We've ordered over 100 times from Al's. The last 5 times, our food has been delivered over 30 minutes late and cold. Al's is the best around! I recently went in and got the Buffalo chicken pizza.. fire. The als salad... great. I love the arancini and the als wings. The wings are big too. As far as covid, I felt safe and saw masks all around. Also lots of hand sanitizer available. Can't wait to go back. read more

Tonight's dinner could have been better. I haven't ordered from here in a while and was super excited. I'll start with the good, The delivery driver was kind. The Asian ginger wings were delicious. They were probably some of the best wings I've had in a very long time. I ordered Angel hair pasta with meat sauce. The amount of sauce versus noodle ratio is horrible. I had to go in the kitchen and open a jar of sauce and heat in order to enjoy a decent portion of the pasta. I would rather get less pasta and an adequate amount of sauce rather than a mound of pasta with very little sauce. It ruined dinner for me. In attempt to pick my jaw up off the floor. I'll start by saying I use to be a regular at Al's. I would order the family pack all the time (football pizza, dozen wings 1/2 tray of mostaccioli & two 1-liter cokes. The wings was the best thing but hated the mostaccioli (I only kept ordering it because it was cheaper to get the package vs. ordering the pizza and wings separate.) Possible 5 years had passed since I last gotten anything from here and just completely forgot what this pizza tasted like. It was 11:15pm and at the time so everything was closing in the area which is how I originally ended up hear. The place basically looked DEAD. When I pulled up it was only one car parked in front of the place. but lights looked half on half off and I didn't see anyone in the front.. Got to the door and it was locked and figured they just closed 45min early today. Got back in my car as I started my car up someone came from out the back kitchen to the front door and waved me back. He mentioned they keep the door lock when no one is in front. (I'm sure all customers appreciate that!) Walked back in asked for onion rings. cheese burger and a slice pizza. (Yeah that much....it was going to be a long night.) wish I had looked at the menu. turns out cheese burger was $7.50 and automatically comes with fries. (I hate places that force you to get stuff you don't want) Onion rings were good but I always say white castle makes good onion rings. Burger? well it was a 1/2 pound but minus that it wasn't doing anything for my taste buds but asking for water. I could have gone to burger king and had it my way for less. I bite into the pizza and from that moment on I was trying to figure out why in the world I was going to Al's so much in the first place. I knew I shouldn't have gotten this slice knowing slow business meant pizza possible set over a hour. Matthew N. review describe this exactly like it tasted to me. "microwave melted cheese on ketchup cardboard." I notice they remodeled, expanding the kitchen. it's now only three SMALL tables to sit at in the front of the register and not the tables and chairs you see in the photos, but they really need to CLEAN up by removing that old wooden cupboard. You have mail, fed ex box's, cups, napkins, cash register machine paper rolls, inventory files, caulk and other crap that don't belong up there. If you're in love with the desserts you can but buy it from Lezza Spumoni & Desserts and Eli's cheesecake (I recognize the cannoli + tray and Italian ice flavors) Although I have a feeling ordering a whole pizza would give different results I'm not willing to waste my money to find out. This place could get 4 maybe even 5 stars, but their delivery sucks. Both times pizza was cold. We are only 14 minutes away so pizza should not arrive cold but it takes them over an hour for delivery. Maybe put pizza in a warming container for delivery driver like normal pizza places. I am not sure we will order for delivery from here again. Pizza should not arrive cold and me having to put it in the oven to heat it up again. Ridiculous! read more

I work down the road from this location and our office has ordered pizza and salad many a time from Al's. The football sized pizza (the largest one) is a good value and can feed a ton of people. The pizza itself is pretty good- nice topping options, good amounts of the toppings on the pizza, tasty crust (not too thin, not too thick), etc etc. They go a little light on the sauce though, IMO. We did our first pickup order last week for home. Since I recently moved, they gave us a coupon for a free medium pizza (1 topping) that I wanted to take advantage of. Again, we thought the pizza was good, but not mind blowing. The medium, at $16 did not seem that big and we had no leftovers, but it was ready when it was supposed to be and the staff was nice. Ordering is easy too. This site only has 3 tiny table and 5 chairs if you are considering dining in. The shop is so small that you'd be awkwardly close to the ordering desk and other patrons coming in, so I wouldn't recommend doing that. They always have coupons going on, so save yourself a few $$ when ordering! read more

A little unsure about the stuffed pizza, the cheese is different then their thin crust pizza. I do like the sause on the Stuffed pizza just the cheese has a weird taste after a while it becomes over powering slimy & way to milky. If you live near cicero or Berwyn you know Al's. Deliver late and fairly quickly even to riverside. Wife and I got bored of pizza so we tried pasta and calamari.....what a mistake. The pastas were ok. We could cook better food especially for the price they charged with delivery and tip. The calamari was aweful. Rubbery, cold, we tossed it out immediately. They sent the smallest cup of sauce I have ever seen. Bottom line, stick to the pizza read more

I have ordered many times from Al's Pizza and I have always enjoyed it. The pizza is good and they have great specials. The last 2 orders i have had problems. For the second time now they have not been able to get into the building or contact me for access. I have given them my information over and over again. When I got my pizza I also got a lecture and a scolding from the delivery driver about how he couldn't get in the building or in contact with me. I verified my phone number and they had it wrong. I had given them the door number to punch in but he didn't know it. This is not my fault. When I called to complain I was told that the manager was busy. He did however say that they were sorry and I hope that you get a nicer delivery person the next time you order. After years of ordering it saddens me to say that I will be looking elsewhere for pizza. read more

I've had takeout from here twice now after the suggestion of my sister who works at Loyola and has had it catered in a few times. This is a little hole in the wall-type place with a few tables inside if you decide to eat in, but it definitely seems like it's mostly a take-out and delivery place. To start...I must say that the lady who was working behind the counter when I stopped in was hilarious and SUPER friendly! SO my type of person! Love her! And the owner is who handed me my food after helping prepare it in the back...um...yeah...totally my type of place! I have tried the vegetarian pizza, hot and parmesan/garlic wings and the breaded mushrooms. I have to honestly say that everything was AMAZING! The pizza was perfection, tons of FRESH veggies and plenty of melt-y cheese. Yum! And the mushrooms remind me of the ones from Brown's chicken which in my opinion is a very high compliment! =] Now those wings...those LARGE, crunchy, juicy wings...OMG...SO good! My favorite is the garlic/parm because they are tossed with TONS of fresh garlic, butter/oil and parmesan. They are honestly WAY more than one would expect from a little pizza place. Holla Al's! Pizza is amazing! They load the cheese on and I love cheese!!! They also have Bosco sticks, garlic bread sticks with cheese in them (not your regular cheese sticks), which are delish! Great location and easy to get to. Smaller inside, but geared more towards takeout! If you want an amazing pizza, I highly recommend this place. So good and quick delivery. I hate to do another review on some slices in the burbs, but that's what I got. You advertise it, I'll try it. You've heard the story before... prebaked slices that have a very crispy bottom under really soft dough and sauce that seems dried out. Same at Al's. I did like that there was an abundance of toppings and you get a lot of bang for your buck. The sauce was of the savory blend, not sweet. Sausage was well-seasoned, but not dried out. The pepperoni was pretty standard. If they had put the pepperoni on top of a prebaked cheese slice before going in the oven (like a lot of places do) I couldn't tell, which was a pleasant surprise. Al's is my teenage niece's favorite pizza--she may age out of this opinion soon since she has hit puberty. I think it's great for delivery for kids. They have a babysitter's special deal that is a 14" large cheese pizza, 12 chicken fingers, cheesy garlic bread, and a liter of pop for 19.95. This special is available daily. It is cheap and the kids love it. I find it a little mild for my taste but it's a great crowd pleaser for the tot to picky teen set and I see it more as an alternative to frozen pizza for kids (think along the line of a John's pizza or Totino's, not classy frozen like Kashi or a Home Run Inn). They have a pick-up only special that is (4) sausage sandwiches or (4) Italian beef sandwiches for 14.25. We like this as a quick, decent, cheap takeout option.
