Was very excited to try this new local spot and it did not disappoint! It was unexpectedly crowded for a Thursday, so I was happy to have made reservations. While it looks a little cramped at first glance, once you're sitting down it does not feel claustrophobic at all. The atmosphere was really nice, soft lighting and music without being too dark or loud. We got the bruschetta burrata as an appetizer and it was delicious. The cheese was creamy, the bread just crunchy enough, the plate was piled with fresh arugula and the balsamic glaze was the perfect topping (I actually forgot to take a picture because I was so excited to eat!). For our mains we both had a steak dish (Bife de Chorizo and Ojo de Bide), based on the reviews of the chimichurri sauce. Only complaint was that I could have used a little more! Steak was well seasoned and pleasantly charred on the outside while remaining tender on the inside. It cut easily and was really good. The place is a little expensive and this property has been under three different owners (at least) since we moved to this neighborhood 1.5 yrs ago, but hopefully this place can make it work! Would definitely recommend for a date night or nice drink. It would be nice to see a happy hour special and more appetizers to make it more accessible for neighbors to stop by for a quick drink/bite. read more

Literally one of my favorite places to eat in Baltimore. This was a welcome change to the neighborhood though prices are relatively high for the area (but worth it for the quality). To start, the bread and chimichurri were so addicting, but don't fill up on it since there's more to come. I was surprised to see so many vegetarian options and have tried different dishes every time I've gone. Every single one of them has been delicious and extremely flavorful. Their salad is full of flavor making you forget that it's technically healthier. The garbanzos picantes are the perfect crunchy snack to have throughout your meal. Their pastas are all freshly made in house and you can taste the quality. The mushroom polenta was also amazing with a great flavor profile. And don't forget the dessert. They're all great, but the flan was outstanding. Great ambiance, but it is a small place like many in Baltimore. Make a reservation if you have a group or want to go on a busy night. My favorite little spot in Baltimore. The food here is great. Steaks are always cooked and seasoned perfectly. The homemade pastas are delicious and the portions are very generous, always end up bringing home leftovers. Salads and starters are also just really, really tasty. Wines and cocktails are very good as well. The menu is really just a winner all around. The ambiance in the restaurant is great. It's a nice little date spot, but also local and friendly enough where you can just pop in for a meal at the bar and not feel out of place. Staff is amazing and provide awesome service. this spot is the loveliest spot in butcher's hill. the servers and owner are absolutely lovely and wonderful people. they are attentive and patient with you. the outdoor seat is super on a quiet night and the neighboring streets have strung up lights! one thing to note is there are mosquitoes - there, you are warned. the food is totally out of this world amazing. everything is cooked to perfection and you can taste the care they put in the food. my friend and i shared a flatbread and the ingredients were so fresh. i love burrata! and, the burrata on the flatbread was creamy, flavorful, and wonderful. The tomatoes were seasoned to great sweetness and so fresh! topped with a mountain of arugula salad and some balsamic vinegar reduction (not dowsed, which was perfect). i always, always get the empanda because i cannot NOT get it! they like me mix it up and get one spinach and one chicken empanada. two empanada definitely gets you satisfyingly full, but not maxed out so definitely get an appetizer, salad, or dessert! the pasta dishes of my neighbors looks like generous portions and i hear their ravioli is just remarkable! Racist, plain and simple. The white male curly haired host was dismissive and rude. And we watched white person after white person come in and he was so friendly and helpful towards them. It was disappointing to see such blatant racism on display. We watched the staff seat people of color in the back, we watched at the bar how the bartender was chatting up white patrons while slamming down glasses in front of black people and barely checking on them. It was just so obvious and disappointing. I love the ambiance of this place in summer/early fall. They have an open concept and you're able to sit in the window area and feel the breeze on your face while you sit inside, which is very covid friendly. Loved the empanadas and the mushroom fettuccini. Service has improved markedly since my last visit and I would definitely come back! Good decor, great bartenders and generally wonderful staff, so why am I only giving La Barrita 1 star? Let me first say that I would give this place 4 or 5 stars if it was a dive bar serving up only cheap beer and fries with some Chimichurri sauce on the side and charging $7 per person. But this place doesn't charge $7 per person, it charges closer to $70 per person, and when an establishment is charging prices so exorbitant, it simply cannot be serving up such bland, boring, and uninspired food! South American cuisine should be brimming with flavor in every bite, it shouldn't be the dry, sterile and lifeless mess my group encountered at La Barrita. Take, for example, the empanadas - traditional (cough, REAL) empanadas are made from dough that is packed with flavor and fat (traditional recipes often call for lard to achieve the desired effect). However, at La Barrita, despite the presentable exterior of its empanadas, upon closer inspection, it is clear that the owners (likely in a cost saving measure) are using store bought pastry dough. The result? a bland, dry and pasty exterior that encases what can only be described as sterilized chicken or beef, completely devoid of the spices and strong flavors that define Argentinian, South American or Portuguese cuisine.... Excuse the hyperbole for a moment, but La Barrita's empanadas would best suit the flavor palette of someone whose favorite restaurant is Taco Bell and favorite home cooked meal involves a tray of frozen TV dinner. Unfortunately, the steak was even worse. I didn't know there was a part of the cow with meat as tough and dry as the rubbery clumps of protein rolling around on my plate, slathered with Chimichurri sauce, so as to distract from the flavor and texture of the meat itself, which was clearly not of Prime or even Choice quality (I will say however that the Chimichurri sauce was well done). Before ordering steak here, make sure that you ask about the cut and grade of the meat that they are serving. I was absolutely baffled by the texture of the meat presented before me, note to the chef: you don't get Michelin stars by serving up pieces of Michelin tires! I wish I could've reached into the nearest TV screen and magically dragged Gordon Ramsey out into the restaurant to have him scream at the Chef for the atrocity of a steak that I was trying to chew through. The scent and taste of a well-prepared meal can transport us to the Sampietrini roads in Rome, the white sandy beaches of Playa Del Carmen or Ko Phangan, the bustling streets of Tokyo, Shanghai or New York, etc., the list goes on and on and on. I came to La Barrita expecting to be transported to Argentina, I sure as heck paid enough money to be transported somewhere, but alas, the food didn't take me anywhere, or maybe it got me to Aeropuerto Internacional and left me in the dingy baggage area. Now, some might say that I simply expected too much! But I wonder, how much should one expect from a restaurant that is charging nearly $100 per person during the COVID-19 pandemic when many people are financially struggling? read more

On the pricey side, but well worth the price. My father and I split the platter of steaks for 2, and each cut was delicious and cooked perfectly. The menu had a lot on it that I would love to come back and try. The owner, Sebastian, is very friendly. I had the panqueques for dessert at his recommendation, with their homemade dulce de leche-very tasty. They also have a really good selection of local beers on tap for you to choose from. All in all, a great spot for a little more upscale dinner. My friends live in the apartments above, so hopefully I will be back soon. read more

There is nothing to dislike about this place. Great food at a very reasonable price, great service and great environment.

They made a mistake about our reservation and upon our arrival told us they cannot accommodate the table we had reserved. The "manager" stepped in to resolve the issue but instead of mitigating their mixup, he kept insulting us and lecturing us about how difficult it is to run a restaurant with a very rude and unpleasant language. The very basic right thing to do as a manager in this situation is to be accountable for your mistake and respect the customer. He was not even slightly apologetic about their mistake, and instead continued insulting us so we decided to leave. I sincerely hope the restaurant invests in training their staff to be capable of handling such situations professionally. read more

From the time I walked through the door La Barrita Restobar captured my senses. Little did I know how endearing this little Argentinian style restaurant and bar would become....and how quickly. Small, Cozy, dimly lit, but energetic and up beat the dark woods, long full bar and wonderful aromas pulled me right in. We had made reservations knowing seating was very limited and were surprised to be seated immediately at our awaiting table. The only empty one in the house. We were greeted quickly by our waiter and then with in minutes, Sebastian, La Barrita's owner was introducing himself and shaking our hands. Sebastian, recommended a wonderful Malbec as we delved into the mouth watering menu. La Barrita is an Argentinian steakhouse offering superbly prepared meats in proportions that perfectly satisfy, but it doesn't stop there From the Gnocchi Santa Fe to the Risotto Con Tuco and the Empanada Sampler the appetizers were "out of the world" delicious but that was just the beginning. Perfectly prepared New York Strips, Sirloins, Rib Eyes and Short Ribs Argentinian style in dishes such as, Bife de Chorizo, Ohio de Bife, Vacio, and Costilla Entera are absolutely mind blowing. But it's really important to note that as wonderful as the food and service are at La Barrita it would not be the same without the charming and sincerely warm and friendly atmosphere created by it's owner and host Sebastian. So it's my humble opinion that if you're looking for a truly inviting and deliciously wonderful and satisfying meal in Baltimore, then you need to checkout La Barrita Rest. I came here with a group of friends and had an excellent time! There's a lot of street parking in the neighborhoods nearby. We came for dinner on a weekday so it wasn't too busy. The food was delicious. It was my first time ever trying real olives (I had only ever had olives on pizza before, which I'm not a fan of) but the fresh olive appetizer tasted really good! The fried chickpeas were nice and crispy, and a great appetizer to snack on. One of my friends really loved the meatballs and the marinara sauce was nice and hearty. The pasta portions were huge. Racist. Me and my gf stopped by to enjoy dinner and there were open seats everywhere and they told us that there were no openings for seating. They took my name and number and never called or texted me to let me know that seats were available. The only other black people in the restaurant were seated all the way in the back.
