This is a marvelous place for an unhurried meal. It's cozy but not too close. The wait staff are attentive and highly professional. Our water glasses were kept full and drink and coffee refills arrived promptly. The wine list is reliable and deep enough to suit anyone's tastes. Try their escargots in garlic, butter and parsley for an appetizer, and one of their many crepes selections as an entree. Their pork chops are melt in your mouth tender. Consistently good, solidly affordable and one of the finest French bistros in the area. read more

Seriously reduced quality from a few years ago. Steak was smothered in steak sauce, fries were mid, and despite being a French restaurant they didn't actually have Dijon mustard (I was brought yellow mustard in a dish when I asked for it). Not worth the hefty price tag for a mediocre steak that I could've made better at home. Still a nice spot and the outdoor seating is good and good service. But the food really has dropped in quality. We were in the area for a week and dined here two nights in succession. The food was great (first night: seafood soup, green salad, ribeye and filet steaks, chocolate mousse. My mom and I had lunch at La Belle Epoque this weekend, and I foresee us coming here many, many times in the future. We called a few days ahead of time and made reservations for Saturday at noon. The bistro was small but cute- we loved the decor. There was an area of tables in the back of the room, and most of them were occupied. We instead decided to sit at a high top table in the front of the restaurant, near the bar. It was quiet and the perfect table- we also got to people watch through the front window :-). Our waiter was awesome. He came over and asked took our drink order, and suggested mimosas ($8 each). My mom and I love mimosas, so we went for it! They were a bit small, but incredibly tasty- and the perfect ratio of bubbly to OJ. My mom ordered the cream of tomato soup (the soup of the day, $5) and the crepe called "La Provencale"- it had olives, plum tomatoes, spinach, onions, goat cheese & pesto sauce ($11). I ordered the onion soup ($6) and the croque-monsieur with french fries ($8). Our soup came out in a few minutes, and they were both amazing. The cream of tomato was so light and tasty and interesting, and unlike any other cream of tomato soup I've had before. I could say the exact same thing about the onion soup- when it first came I was surprised, it didn't look very traditional- however, it tasted amazing. My mom and I were trying to guess all the herbs used in it, and I would definitely order it the next time I come. Both of our bowls were quickly emptied. Two thumbs up. Our entrees came right after. Their crepes are made with buckwheat flower, and I can't think of a single negative thing to say about the crepe- even the side salad was interesting and tasty. My mom had trouble finishing her whole plate, so I helped out a bit at the end! My croque-monsieur was authentic, and it transported me to a cafe in Paris. I always order a croque-monsieur, both at French restaurants here and in France, and this was one of the best I've ever had. The french fries were addictive, and I couldn't stop eating them! As we were eating, my mom and I kept talking about how good everything was. Overall, lunch was awesome. The food was amazing and not expensive, the service was great, the decor was cute, and the meal was very relaxing. We'll definitely be back quite frequently in the future! read more

Their Restaurant Week menu got me in the door and their excellent service, food, and atmosphere means I need to make an excuse to come back soon. Parking is nearby in lots and free after 6pm, the atmosphere is comfortable but busy. I definitely recommend reservations as the place was nearly full the entire long evening we enjoyed. The service was impeccable with regular but not pushy check-ins. The food ran the gamut of peasant to upscale but all had that old school French quality you hope for in a place that claims to be French focused. Everything we tried from the cheese plate to the tira misu was a bullseye of flavor and quality. Even their cappuccinos were a step above. If you want a cozy corner café/restaurant with a relaxed romanticism with food both familiar and brilliant, this is your must try spot. read more

I was looking for good French cooking in Delaware County, but not uptight, jackets required, overpriced French cooking. I had just about given up hope until I dined at La Belle Epoque in Media. Once again, I had to go to Media to find the best this county has to offer! The escargots was in a very simple garlic and olive oil sauce. They were well seasoned and not too chewy. My entree was a trout that was teeming with flavor, was cooked perfectly, had a crispiness on the outside and was very flaky and fork tender in the middle. It was prepared almondine style with haricot verts that had the essential snap to them as well as being very chewable (whatever that means). The server was impressed with my ability to pronounce the actual French names on the menu (I practiced them several times before ordering, I must admit), and the service itself was very prompt and friendly. Its a small cafe so I can imagine a wait if it got really busy. The restaurant is very cozy because of its size, welcoming. They offer fresh bread service at your table, the rolls are very tasty as well. For the food you are gettting, the price is very reasonable. The menu, atmosphere, and overall vibe I get from this place is very New York Balthazar, but without the price tag and the annoying New Yorkers (JK?) read more

I was disappointed. This is not real French food. I don't think the chef is French. All the food tasted like it was already made and re-heated. Salty and not fresh. I got the salmon with fish eggs on top served with green beans. The salmon did not taste like salmon. It tasted like it was reheated this place does not taste French. Everything was very salty, even the pilaf was too salty. We were so disappointed. The awning wasn't big enough to fit three tables. I got the beef stew it was so salty I could not eat it- and I actually like salty things. Just overall NOT French. read more

Nothing bad to say, really. I have been coming here since 2009 and love this place. The ambiance is cozy and romantic in the evening with gentle jazzy music and candlelight. Expert bar and wait staff answer any questions with ease and poise. My favorite Golden Ginger Martini by Ronan is an all too rare indulgence that I must enjoy more often. The food is delicious. Sunday Brunch should not be missed. Wes, probably the most professional server I have ever encountered, serves on this historically busy day. Be prepared to wait a bit. He is charming with his knowledge of the preparation of the menu options, wines and cocktails served, and general man-about-town things, when there is time to chat. The waitresses are lovely. Tatiana is graceful as she sweeps through the room, smiling at her guests. I lose myself here just watching out of the huge windows or meeting the other guests at the tiny bar with that enchanting music (Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald) and the rich aromas from the kitchen, the clinking of glasses... Really disappointing. The seared tuna was way overdone, although our waiter adamantly assured us that it was medium, though it was pretty well done, and did not even offer to replace it. He was also very curt and unfriendly toward us): We also tried the Basil Gnocchi, Escargot, and Salmon, which were all okay, nothing to note haha. The decor is also dusty, and the service subpar, seeing that I had to go get the check myself after the episode with the tuna. Another 5 review! Sorry I didn't get pics of the beautiful asparagus omelet and the crepe La Mer. Both were delicious, but the crepe stole the show! Plenty of seafood and perfectly seasoned cream sauce. Each came with a side salad with a yummy vinaigrette, and the omelet was also accompanied by potatoes. Large portions too. We each had a drink (cranberry mimosa and Bloody Mary) and the bill, with tip, was $37 each which I thought was reasonable. read more

This restaurant gave us one of the worst dining experiences. We felt compelled to post something because the reviews that we read were overwhelmingly glowing and were a misrepresentation of what we ultimately experienced. Our reservations were at 5 p.m. - the time the house opened - and upon arriving, we waited much longer than we should have before someone greeted us. The server who finally did was curt and lacked any hospitality/semblance of a personality that is requisite of the restaurant industry. Her chilly greeting was as cold as the 30 degrees outside. After seating us, she said the only special was tomato bisque. However, minutes later, we overheard another server tell a table that the specials were tomato bisque AND branzino. When we asked our server about this, she said the chef arrived after 5 p.m. and was not sure what the special entrée would be...so that is why she did not mention the branzino. Wouldn't the chef know what the specials are the day of before the house opens? Also, any apology or contrition was absent in the server's response to us. Everything continued to be a slow march toward hell from there on out. Shame on us for presuming that bread would be customarily served in an establishment that represents itself as a French bistro. NO BREAD. Well, that's not entirely true - the adjacent table received bread. That one really stung. Our food TOOK OVER AN HOUR to be served. Add further insult to injury: The guests who had been seated well after us received their food before we did. We had hoped the actual food would make up for the atrocious service, but it was not to be. The shrimp and lobster raviolis tasted like they were from a can, the risotto tasted like freezer burn, and the braised short ribs resembled something that could be whipped up at home in a crockpot. Our server only checked on us once. But perhaps the most troubling thing of all - aside from the abysmal service and the substandard and delayed food - was overhearing one of the servers say they were unable to understand the chef because of his French accent. Real class. Because that's what you want to hear when dining out (or anywhere), a tinge of xenophobia. That was the coup de grâce to our first - and LAST - patronage at La Belle Epoque. read more

Super quaint French bistro- nice selection of wines. Just wish the bar area was a bit bigger (only about 6 seats). The bartender was extremely helpful and great to chat with regarding the area and restaurants. We only had some wine and a few appetizers but what really stood out were the mussels- the sauce was decadent and so yummy. I literally wanted to drink up the sauce at the end (tasted like the best tomato soup!). Will come back again and will try some of the other dishes (heard the trout was excellent)! read more

Was so excited to dine here as place nice looking with outdoor eating. The special appetizer was octopus that we shared. It was an overpriced ($25.00) lukewarm over salted tentacle with a tasteless sauce on plate . We both have had octopus elsewhere done correctly! But the real crime was the Boeuf Bourguignon ($28:00) advertised as a "classic french stew" but what was served was very dry chewy beef cubes, 3 carrot pieces with no broth and some bland mashed potatoes on top. My friend was too nice to send back as it should have been. My fish special was ok. ($34.00) The mushroom risotto it was served on was the best thing about entire dinner. 1st time here and won't return. read more

I ordered only off their crepes selection: the Brie cheese and bacon, and the olives, tomatoes, goat cheese crepe. For their crepes in general, the outside is perfectly crispy, and the portions are large. Each crepe comes wth light salad of green leaves mostly with balsamic vinegar. The cheese for the crepes were applied generously. Eat the cheese slowly and let the flavors evolve in your mouth. The olives, tomato, goat cheese crepe is like a fiesta in your mouth. The flavors are so vibrant, and they come together so well. I don't even like olives, and it was a good addition, not too strong or overpowering. The Brie cheese crepe is not as sharp because as we know, Brie cheese as a more smooth flavor. It actually pairs well with the balsamic vinegar dressing, which balances out the smooth flavor with a twang. Other: Other than food, the service is good. I split with a friend two crepes, and they plated them on two separate plates for us. It did take them a while to take our order, but having recently been in Paris, that kind of slowness feels authentic. In fact the waitress also had a French accent. Improvement: To make it more authentic, they can have more outdoor seating with the chairs that face out to people watch, like the French do. This could just be me being nostalgic though read more

Wonderful experience for our party of six. Ronan our server was skilled, knowledgeable, and very personable. Food and wine were great and fairly priced. Overall a great night for us sitting on the deck on a warm spring evening. I will definitely recommend this restaurant and I will return. On visit April 27 2018, am glad to report that this place has maintained it's 5 stars. It was fun to see super server Ronan again. Escargot app and duck entree were perfectly prepared and delicious. Lovely looking place. Had dinner for my husband's birthday last Wednesday. The food was okay, a bit salty although my husband liked it. What I really could not get over was how drunk the bartender was. He was able to walk straight but was loud and obnoxious. It was a Wednesday night and it was snowing so there were not that many people in the restaurant which may explain his relaxed behaviour nevertheless it felt very unprofessional. Thank you for an excellent dinner. Wes was a perfect host and server, we enjoyed his company and his great wine suggestions. I enjoyed the Pinot Noir very much. My husband and I shared the escargot; the sauce was perfect for dipping the bread brought to us fresh from the oven. He ordered the filet and I had the roast chicken, both were the best we had ever had. The mashed potatoes were the creamiest and most decedant.
