Disappointing Customer Service Experience I was craving jerk chicken yesterday, 08/19/2026, so I stopped by Chef Tally and ordered a large jerk chicken and jerk pork to share with my brother. I asked the cashier if the meat could be split between two containers. She explained that I needed to purchase an additional plate, which I did, and told me to ask the person cutting the meat if he could place half of the order in the plate I purchased. When I asked him, his response was a very loud and aggressive "NO!" He cut me off twice and spoke to me in a way that I felt was unnecessarily rude and disrespectful. I wasn't being difficult or demanding--I was simply following the instructions given to me by the cashier. I calmly said "okay" and walked away because I wasn't interested in arguing. Unfortunately, customer service matters just as much as the food. Based on this experience, I personally will not be returning to or supporting Chef Tally. I hope management takes situations like this seriously because customers should be treated with basic courtesy and respect. read more

One thing that will always frustrate me is bad customer service, especially at a Black-owned establishment where Caribbean people go specifically to support one another. At 3:07 PM, I called and spoke with a woman to place a pickup order: one fried fish and one oxtail with rice and peas and plantains. I was told plantains are not served until 5 PM, so I said that was fine and switched the side to steamed vegetables. She clarified it would be steamed cabbage, and I agreed. I then asked my father to pick up the food. He arrived at 3:39 PM, more than 30 minutes later, and the staff acted as though they had no idea what he was talking about. He called me asking if I had actually placed the order because they were telling him they didn't have it. I asked him to put me on speaker so I could speak with them. When I asked the woman why the order wasn't ready after being placed over 30 minutes earlier, she rudely replied, "Well you didn't talk to me. I don't answer phones." Excuse me? I don't know your internal process, but I do know I called and spoke with someone for about two minutes placing that order. I certainly didn't imagine it. I initially told my father to just leave, but since he was already there he asked them to make the order. I repeated the order to the woman and the call ended. I then called back and got the same woman again, as I recognized her voice. I explained the situation and she sighed deeply before saying, "Let me see because I'm here now." She put the phone down, I heard rummaging in the background, and then she came back and said, "He already placed the order." Ma'am, that was not what I asked. The question was why the order was never placed and ready for pickup when I called it in over 30 minutes earlier. Her response was simply, "Oh well I don't know, but the order is made now." At that point I told her I would be leaving a review. If I could leave zero stars for service, I would. The only reason this review is getting two star is because the food actually tastes good and they're a Caribbean restaurant. However, customer service matters. Being rude and dismissive when a customer politely asks about their order is completely unnecessary. A simple acknowledgment or accountability would have prevented this entire situation. My favorite Jamaican restaurant, Maam Jamaican Restaurant on Ives Dairy, closed and I was really sad about it. I also really miss the sweet oxtail flavor they used to have. I've been craving oxtails, and since they're closed and I wouldn't be cheating on them anymore, so I decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately, the seasoning wasn't too good on either dish, but the food was very fresh. Unfortunately, I will not be returning nor recommending this restaurant, and I will also be sharing this experience on other platforms. read more

I walked over 15 minutes specifically to try this place, and unfortunately, it was a complete letdown. Despite arriving well before closing, they were completely out of sides. I was initially told by the woman at the counter to wait for cabbage after she went to the back to confirm only to find out later that there was none coming. Customer service was average at best. When I expressed my frustration, they brushed it off, saying the sides are "free," so it supposedly doesn't matter if they're unavailable. But here's the thing I would've ordered a larger plate had I known sides weren't an option. When I said that, the employee told me the large just comes with "one to two more pieces of meat and extra rice" for a higher price which honestly felt like a scam. To top it off, another customer chimed in saying this happens all the time they always run out of sides, even with their overpriced meals. Yet, they still charge you full price for a partial meal. That's unacceptable. Between the lack of transparency, poor customer service, sketchy building setup, and over $20 wasted, I can confidently say I won't be returning. The main attraction to this place I think is that they are open 24/7 which is rare to find a Jamaican restaurant that's always open. The place is small and it was packed when I went. So my husband went and purchased 3 oxtails dinner. The total is $54.60. Upon looking at the receipt I noticed there was a $10.00 charge for the tip, which he did NOT leave... Has never been painted. The floors are disgusting. The counter is a mess. If they don't care about what their guests see, imagine the kitchen in back that you can't see. They don't follow Covid guidelines. And I'm positive that if the food inspector made a visit, he would shut them down. Unless they paid him off. I ordered the Oxtail dinner. The rice was regular. I was taken to this spot in N. Miami by a friend who frequents this place when he in Miami. The spot is along side a busy road with a lot of traffic. I ordered curry goat which is my signature dish when I patron a Jamaican restaurant. It came with a side of cabbage and one plantain. There was plenty of rice n beans. A few month ago, I reaped the benefits of my supervisor's Keto diet when she gave me the fried dumplings from her take out order and I'm hooked. I'd never had the sweet variety of dumplings sold at JH. Another coworker culturally enlightened me they are sugar dumplings. Well sugar, they are delicious and the reason for my 4 Star rating. Fast forward to last Friday, I got to sample JH's ackee and saltfish. It was okay--very, very oily, salty with a bit of a spicy kick--maybe from all the black pepper. Drained of the excess oil and topped on slices of the dumplings, the pillowy soft dumpling insides blanketed tablespoons of the ackee and saltfish and er'ting was irie, mon! Thanks again boss!
