I give the food a solid 3.5. My mom got the fish of the day which was salmon served over a small bed of greens (not quite enough to be a salad). I could tell by the way she was scraping the salmon to the dressing on the plate that it was probably on the under-seasoned side. I got the roasted beet salad and a bowl of soup du jour which was tomato bisque. The salad was absolutely delicious but the blue cheese was a little bit too much for me. I loved the onion strings on the salad & the herb dressing was fresh tasting with its thyme flavoring. Most other roasted beet salads come out too sweet but not this one! I could've eaten two of these! The tomato bisque was good although I would've like to add more salt to it (but we had no salt or pepper on our table or any of the other tables in fact). There was a definite fresh tomato flavor to it...just needed a bit more seasoning. I also got a bread plate to share with my mom. We liked the baguette & country bread best. The olive bread & natural bread were only ok. The crust was decent although in comparing breads, I like the breads at Le Pain Quotidien more because their crust is crispier & more developed. But the bread here did have that homemade taste to it as it was just baked that morning. But there was a generous amount of bread. There was so much bread that we took most of it home. Maybe I prefer too much salt in my food but I felt the bread (aside from the olive bread) could have also used more salt. The breads were served with olive oil & unsalted butter as dipping accompaniments. The olive oil had a fresh clean grassy flavor. Although the dishes were a smidge pricey for the portions, it was sufficient. (I am sure this is how the French stay thin!) Overall: Cute place, good service, & clean simple food with fresh flavors. Came here for brunch on a weekend on our way down to Big Sur for the day. The decor here is quaint and cozy with some really cool seating seating options. They have a mini French style cottage inside the restaurant that some lucky diners get to sit in. I had the eggs in Purgatory which are poached eggs over a chorizo and potato stew, served with toasted bread. The food here was delicious but the portions sizes left something to be desired; there really wasn't too much chorizo and potato under the eggs. I also had their Americano coffee which was quite good and comes beautifully presented. Overall, a solid spot for brunch. read more

I can not praise this place enough! I am not much of a seafood person but we had spent a lot of time on the coast so had had mostly seafood for a month. I was just looking for a place that was delicious without seafood, but once I arrived here I had to order their lobster pasta dish. I did not regret it and this is the last place I've enjoyed my seafood since! This dish is so wonderfully made and absolutely delicious. It's a heavier sauce so maybe go easy on the fromage appetizer, but definitely order it! Our waitress was the sweetest person and super friendly. They had outdoor seating which was pandemic friendly. This place is absolutely fantastic-particular standout is the service! My wife and I went here for our anniversary and wow were we impressed with everything about this place! First off the food is insane! For starters we tried the Brie and Apple plate and the meat tray- fantastic! The locally sourced honey with the mild Brie was fabulous! A great lite option! Next the cured meat tray was wonderful-4 options all great! The standouts were the boar salami and oddly enough the pickles. Boar had fantastic salt and pork flavor and the pickles were light and fresh. Dinner my wife and I shared the squash and prochutto and the local mushroom pizza. The squash pizza was great-the arugula on top of the pizza added a great crunch and the squash/prochutto combo was phenomenal blend of sweet and savory. The mushroom was also great but had a very round flavor that was set off nicely by the addition of red pepper flakes. Both were epic. Lastly we are finishing with the chocolate mousse. Love the place super European and cute. Love the tables on the street. We ordered the margarita pizza very good, probably the best pizza I have had. The large gnocchi plate was still small, but had a very good sauce. I would have preferred a larger plate, gnocchi itself was alittle different was green in the inside, but still very good. So we arrived just out of time to be seated in the first seating but the helpful hostess offered us a reservation an hour later. We stopped by at Luca a few doors down for a pizza and burrata (see other review) to tie us over. Yes we are pigs. We came back at the alotted time and the previous table was just finishing up. We were soon seated and had a chance to order. Decor was artful and reminiscent of a Paris bistro. Coke in a glass bottle always tastes better for some reason so a nice touch. Some of the Yelper recommended items were gone much to our chagrin but we still had the Velo Burger. The meat was great quality, the bun was flavorful, but what really brought it home was the caramelized onions. The fries were perfectly crispy and salty - just like I like them! They did forget to bring our bacon on the side, but were apologetic and removed it from the bill when mentioned. The salumi pizza was too salty and oily. I guess that's what you should expect with a salumi pizza, but it really would have been served better by less meat and more tomato sauce. Odd to ask for less of the "money" toppings, but that's what I would have preferred. Watermelon salad was artfully prepared, refreshing and nicely seasoned. The star of the show was the Chocolate Mousse. Yes it is $14, but can easily feed 4 since it was so rich and delicious. I personally wanted a little more of an airy bubbly mousse, but hard to object to such rich luscious high quality chocolate. Probably would have been 3* but for this grand finale. read more

Wow! Where to begin, this place is amazing and charming. Definitely my favorite spot in Carmel. Madison our server was so sweet and full of recommendations like spacing our our selections so we had a 3 course meal. It was relaxing and each dish was perfectly timed when it came out. We started with the avocado citrus salad which was very refreshing. Then the spinach gnocchi as an appetizer with a delicious cream sauce that will live in my memory forever. Lastly the mushroom wood fire pizza was a complex layer of flavors and cooked perfectly. Great wine selection too. Came here to celebrate my wife's birthday and we were not disappointed. We had the steak special for the evening and the salmon - both were amazing! The service was fun and interactive, and we loved the dessert. To the point - Waitresses (some) are a little sleazy. The atmosphere here is really "old Italy" feel coupled with waitresses that aren't very professional (attitude and attire wise). Went here on a whim and some of the girls were in dresses that you would call far from professional restaurant attire. There was four of us and the waitresses are less friendly if you happen to be a female close to their age. I've come to hear this from other people as well. If you are a male, you will be treated nicely and the waitresses will gladly flirt and touch your shoulders and back as they speak with you regardless if they are with their girlfriend or wife. I guess a good tip is more important than being respectable and doing your job. The waitress that waited on us must've thought she was going to get a big tip for putting her hands all over my friends boyfriend and his dad. I cannot remember her name but she has dark brown hair and wore glasses and a thick build (not fat but not skinny). She's lucky we didn't complain right then and there to the manager about it. My friend wasn't too happy about it, we all weren't. These waitresses should have a little more respect for their customers and more importantly themselves. We have lived in Carmel for 12 years. La Bicyclette is by far the best restaurant in town. The food, the service, John the manager make the experience exceptional. Reading the reviews I have to chuckle as I have experienced some of the patrons who show up very late during covid for their table and expect to stay past next reservation. Then they post a negative review. Folks, we are still in a pandemic and the fact La Bicyclette continues to crank out amazing food and service is something we should all be thankful for. The service given to us at the restaurant was really awful and disrespectful. The person taking our order just shoved the food on our table without caring to even place it carefully. They did not even ask us if we needed to order anything throughout the course of the meal. They did not even care to pick up the dirty dishes for a while. Towards the end, we asked them to give us the dessert menu, but the server simply went to a corner and started wiping glasses. After that we asked another server for the menu to order dessert. This kind of behavior from restaurant staff is really bad, I hope the management takes appropriate action to fix the service quality and server behavior. read more

The coffee was to die and after eating eggs for breakfast the check came $50. Was recommended by a twitter follower to give this place a shot while I was in Carmel. My husband and I were a bit early and tried going to lunch at 11 a.m. We walked in were asked to leave and come back at 11:30, which kind of annoyed us since they had customers in there leftover from breakfast, but we decided to go check out art and come back. We arrived back at 11:30 and their door was now locked, which was also annoying. We waited about another 10 minutes before they finally opened up for lunch. My husband really liked his burger and I really enjoyed my chicken panini. I thought the atmosphere was a bit lacking, but the food made up for it. Service was pretty good but nothing to rave about. We had multiple different people helping us. Overall the experience was okay. I wouldn't say it was a great dining experience but it did hit the spot. read more

Perfectly prepared pasta with exquisite truffle sauce. Our other guests enjoyed the cassoulet (big enough to be shared) and the sea bass with a creative rice preparation. I think Carmel is one of the nicest beach "villages" in the USA, which I visit whenever I have a chance. This time we were on a road trip from PHX to SFO, and stopped in Carmel for some strolling, shopping and of course food delight. The place is super nice, deco is French-charming. Hostess very friendly, and waiter (Spencer) super attentive. We sat at a tiny table inside an "alcove" (an imitation village home, with windows and a roof), it was the cutiest thing ever (although very cramped, not for everyone). We ordered the Boeuf (Culotte Steak au Poivre, i.e. prime sirloin, peppercorn and cognac sauce, with fries) and the Fresh Tagliatele Pasta (Ramp Pesto, morel mushrooms, asparagus, sea beans, parmigiano-reggiano cheeses). To finish: the Mousse au Chocolat. What can I say? Everything was delicious, the service was great, prices fair, ambiance super nice. Recommended! read more

After a few recommendations we decided to try this spot before leaving back to the Bay. We came here on a Monday and it was a holiday; fortunately there was no wait when we arrived at 9:00 AM. They take reservations for those of you who do not like to wait. When we passed by later around noon there was a line along the wall. The day we came their coffee machine was down; only drip coffee and tea was available. I was okay with it because all I wanted was tea. They're a French restaurant with a few breakfast options, but unfortunately no substitutions. This was a bummer for me because I like to order egg whites only. Their menu always changes so I can't recall the exact names of our orders. The breakfast item I had was the wood-fired eggs. It was your basic dish with eggs, potatoes, spinach, bacon and baguette bread. The potatoes were seasoned well and diced nicely. They were lightly seasoned with a slight crisp to them. My favorite item from my plate were the 2 pieces of bacon. They were not too greasy and had an addicting crunch. I washed it all down with a lemon lavender tea that came with honey and sugar cubes. It was served in a tea bag with a wooden stick across the top to prevent it from falling to the bottom. I couldn't really taste the lavender which could have been masked by the lemon I added. My boyfriend had a breakfast plate with chorizo. The chorizo was served in a clay type dish along with eggs and slices of baguette bread. I tried some of his dish and the chorizo was nicely seasoned. The dish the meal is served in keeps the food nice and hot. Overall the breakfast was good, but nothing crazy. I'll be coming back for their dinner since the menu looks promising! read more
