Goulash Soup
Chastity V.

Delicious cheese fondue, a nice and spacious outdoor booth on a dog-friendly patio, excellent service, and a doggie menu for our pup! This place had it all. We were the only customers in the outdoor patio just after 6pm on a Tuesday. Our server was friendly and helpful, and was so kind to our dog. I started with the goulash soup (4/5) which was very savory and hearty. For my entree I got the Swiss cheese fondue (5/5) with a side of sausage - for dipping, it came with a big basket of bread and a plate with broccoli, cauliflower, and apples. This was definitely more than enough for one person, so my partner had some fondue as well. He also got the chicken schnitzel (5/5), which was excellent. Our dog got the chicken and carrots bowl off the doggie menu and loved every bite of it! They also gave him a fresh bowl of water. A wonderful dinner for all of us. We'll definitely be back when we're in Carmel again!

So adorable!

I've lived in this area for years and never knew this place existed! It's so charming inside, with beautiful European wood work and decorations. The food was all excellent. Seasoned very well and as good if not better schnitzel as I have had in Germany. Great service as well. Please please don't ever paint all the cozy charming woodwork WHITE! like they did to the rest of the barnyard:(

Very romantic, very mindful, very cutesy, very demure. Walked in pretty close to the end of their dinner service hours, but were still able to be seated outside on the table with the fireplace--there were plenty of empty tables inside as well, but the weather was nice and so outside dining was the move. I ordered the fondue for 1, and my partner got the pork schnitzel with spatzli--we shared both so that we could enjoy more! I wasn't a fan of the cabbage that came with it, but we cleared out the rest of our food quite easily. Melty cheese is very delicious.

Great spot I come when I am in the area. Great service and ambiance. Good food. Nice plaza and interior has amazing Swiss feeling. Feels like you are away in Swissland. I specially love their onion soup and sausages. Can't find this anywhere else. I truly love this place. Feels welcoming. This place took care of my new child and asked to come again. While I was there I can see the regulars and just mention my usual to the server. This is how ideal a restaurant should be with class. The rest rooms are clean as well.... Man I think the Swiss culture and its legend is preserved here. Come check it out and the prices are great as well with good portion size. The creator of this place Andre has passed but we can appreciate his careful crafting of this spot. May it last into the generations. Wish you well Andre L!!! You definitely made a hit of this Jem of a place...... make many patrons happy with you food my man... cheers to you for your hardworking. And glad to say I am enjoying it even after you have left the place. Very satisfied with this spot

While visiting Carmel we were staying close to The Barnyard which is where this restaurant is located. We love fondue and enjoy the experience, so we decided to come here for dinner. The restaurant wasn't very busy but we went kind of early as we had been traveling all day and were pretty exhausted. The restaurant is very cute, located on the lower level. The service was excellent. The food was very good too. Not the best fondue I've ever had (Mona Lisa Fondue in Manitou Springs, Colorado has been my favorite), but this was very good. We had fun and I would recommend

Call the restaurant- it's a very small place- wonderful food but very tiny place. They are very nice and should be happy to answer your question.

Tldr: Ludwig's cares…read more Ludwig's always hits the spot. The portion is always great in consideration for the cost of the dishes. I've come multiple times, solo, and with friends, and I've never had a bad experience. The service has always been consistent in the way that this establishment always take care of their guests. Every guest around you is always having a good time. This is a key component that you want to experience in a restaurant setting. Masha took care of me today (and multiple other customers at the same time.) I observed and received nothing short of what is expected in a restaurant setting in Mountain View on Castro Street: Quality service, and great suggestions. I think guests sometimes overlook the novelty of being able to enjoy your time in the establishment you choose to dine at. Folks seem to be in such a rush these days. It's nice to slow down and enjoy the sunshine and hustle/bustle of the world around while enjoying a quality meal and some sunshine or indoors while letting the wind sweep your table top. P.s. if you ever have some issues with your experience--talk to the staff. Don't leave a low quality yelp review. It doesn't help anything besides, perhaps, one's self esteem.

It was a sunny day and the weather was beautiful (but slightly hot), luckily we got a table as there were reserved seats around us. For happy hour, we got their happy hour sampler which included, 2 spaetzle cheese balls, a pretzel with sweet mustard, pickled veggies, and a cheese sausage/brat wrapped in pastry dough. We also ordered some jager fries (fries with mushroom gravy/jager sauce, cheese, and green onions). The wrapped sausage was the standout! We also ordered two half liter beers - I love the selection of German beers and local beers. This being a biergarten, of course we went German. Overall, a beautiful way to spend an afternoon! I would definitely try non-happy hour menu items and try to make my way down their beer list.

Three of us came here for dinner and we opted to share a few starters and entrees. We ordered the Meatball Spatzle, Goat cheese Purse Salad, Double cooked Pork belly, and classic wiener schnitzel. And then we finished off with the Strudel for dessert. Everything was great and we'd definitely order any of it again. There were so many delicious sounding things on the menu though, that I think I'll have to try new stuff next time, just to try more of it! The portions were really good, especially the Spatzle, and all of that was plenty of food for the three of us. I wanted to be able to eat more, but sadly I was getting too full. We ordered a variety of cocktails and wine, our server was very generous in letting us try the different drinks before ordering. I ended getting a glass each of an Austrian and German wine, and loved both. Cocktails were also thoroughly enjoyed by those that had them.

June 2026 -- Santa Clara, CA Beer, Brats, Bladder Strategy…read more Pretty fun place. Good food. Great place to watch a World Cup soccer game. One word of warning: arrive with an empty bladder and a working relationship with patience, because the restroom line moves like it is being reviewed by a committee. Das Bierhauz is located right next to the VTA and Caltrain station, which makes it a very practical stop before heading to a game at Levi's Stadium. There is shaded outdoor seating and indoor seating, but this place fills up fast. Do not show up late and expect the universe to hand you a table. The universe has other appointments. The beer selection is very good. We got there around 6 PM before the Austria vs. Jordan World Cup match, and the stouts were already sold out. That tells you two things: people know what they are doing here, and you may need to move with purpose. Order the huge 20 oz glass if you want to have fun. It is not subtle. It announces itself. Food-wise, the combination appetizer is a strong move for a group of three or four. It comes with hummus, crushed eggplant, olives, a cucumber-yogurt-style dip, and other Mediterranean support staff. For the main dish, I recommend the veal knockwurst with fries. It was simple, filling, and did its job without trying to explain itself. The ordering system is where things get a little loose. Seating is basically self-directed, which means the bold inherit the tables. The line to order can feel scattered, although the menu is clearly posted above the cashier. You order, pay, receive one of those coaster number things, then sit down and trust that civilization will continue. To their credit, the staff found us with the beer and food without incident. There were TVs everywhere showing Argentina vs. Algeria, and with the international crowd in the room, the energy was like getting electrocuted by friendly aliens experimenting on how to make adrenaline surges in the body lightning fast. Loud, lively, and just the right amount of chaotic. Overall, I would give Das Bierhauz a 4 out of 5. I would not want to be here when it is absolutely packed, mostly because the queue system could become chaotic like a school of fish in a class on how to properly get into an auto accident. That said, the staff were reliable, the food was good, the beer was strong, and the location is hard to beat before a game.

The owners were lovely. It's now owned and run by a Latino couple. They told me they purchased the place about 4 years ago. I ordered the bratwurst in a bun (I chose the polish sausage) and a side of potato salad. The total for the two came to $20.10. The polish sausage was good, the pretzel bun was delicious. I actually sliced up the sausage and ate the sausage and bun separately dipping both in the German mustard. The mustard was the star of the plate! It was absolutely fantastic. The potato salad was supposed to be a traditional German potato salad (made without mayo) but it was very runny and had no flavor. More like bland runny mashed potato's (but with no butter or cream) with lumps of potatoes in it. It was $5.95. I would suggest to pass on this item. I couldn't leave without trying dessert so I tried the almond lemon torte and a berry cream cake. The cake was a very light sponge cake with whipped cream filling. The lemon torte with the light almond crust was delicious. I would highly recommend! The two items came to a total of $17.90. The breakfast seems to be pretty popular and looking at the menu I can see why. I'll be back again to try some of the breakfast items and a few items I noticed on the lunch/dinner menu. (And I really want to try one of their large pretzels, made in house, with that delicious German mustard)

The peaches were ripe without being overly sweet, the salty cheese offset the fruit perfectly, and the pine nuts added a great bit of texture. The biggest surprise was the gnocchi. I normally avoid gnocchi because I find it too heavy, but our waitress convinced me to try it and I'm so glad she did. It wasn't made with potatoes, so it was much lighter than expected, and the creamy, cheesy sauce was perfect for dipping the bread into. We also shared a half Margherita and half Salumi pizza. The crust was thin and European-style, with fresh ingredients and plenty of cheese. The Margherita was light and flavorful, while the Salumi had great depth from the salami, red onion, and house-made chili oil. We were told the peppers are roasted in the pizza oven, which gave the oil an amazing smoky flavor. Our waitress was incredible. Even in a full restaurant, she made my family feel special. She seemed genuinely excited about the food, the restaurant, and her job, and that enthusiasm made the experience even better. The atmosphere was also so charming. The room we sat in had little building facades that created an almost optical illusion, making it feel like we were dining on a street in France. It's easy to see why La Bicyclette is included in the Michelin Guide. I'll absolutely be coming back anytime I'm in Carmel.
