La Bodega is one of my favs in KC. The menu is diverse and delicious. The tapas are shareable dishes with creative flavor combinations inspired by Spanish cuisine. The Cabrale Flatbread special was tasty with flavorful steak and fluffy flatbread. I especially loved the Montaditos del Carne de Cerdo. The braised pork and the accoutrements on top tasted so good together! Our server was attentive and helpful. She gave great recommendations. She suggested we ordered two tapas per person. With 4 people, we ordered 6 tapas and struggled to finish them, so take that suggestion with a grain of salt ;) The weather tonight was perfect for outdoor seating. La Bodega has a beautiful outdoor seating area with canopies and color that make you feel like you're not under an interstate in KC. It's lovely. The inside is also quite aesthetically pleasing with beautiful art and neat lighting. I love coming back to this place when I visit KC. It's a must try!
La Bodega has been a favorite for many moons! Dare I say, one of the best happy hours and industry nights in Kansas City. Friendly and knowledgeable staff in a setting that is always buzzing with a fabulous sense of community. Ample gluten-free and vegetarian selections make it perfect for most!
First time here and it was a good experience. I'm from Los Angeles so I love Latin cuisines and this spot did a great job on all levels. Food: The food was good and had flavor, the presentation and portions were not bad. The starters were small so be sure to order multiples for larger groups. The fresh oysters were really good, the paella was really good and large in portion size great table shareable or as a entree. The cheese board had a really good variety of cheeses and crackers with some fruit. That was a nice little gem on the menu. They do serve alcohol but could be a little more consistency on the pours. Two of the same drinks tasted completely different and they do have a wine section. Service: The staff was nice and quickly provided seating for our large group of 10 people. Our waiter was great! He took orders checked on us and provided some really good feedback on menu items when asked. Thank you, Atmosphere: I love the decor! It was rustic with hand pai ted murals and gave a artistic vibe to our experience. However, I was not a fan of the metal tables, it felt to industrial and the tables were off balance as well. The size of the table were also interacting as they seemed really skinny and most likely ment for smaller groups like 2 people. The ceiling at La Bodega was the best part of the decor. It was such a great twist on smearing colors together. Price: Coming from Los Anegeles I thought the prices were right on targetand fit with the portion sizes. Location: It's located in Kansas City Mousori. Parking: We ubered to the restaurant but parking did look to be tight on the street side not sure if they have another lot in the back.
I went to la bodega a handful of times several years ago and it was always good-- but I felt it could have been better. WELL I went back recently and every dish was elevated, delicious and the service was great. Way better than it had been in the past. I recommend the sangria with champagne on top, deviled eggs and sausage platter. Happy hour is incredible with sangria pitchers being 50% off!!
Went with a friend for happy hour and definitely exceeded my expectations. The sangria was top notch and the deviled eggs were very good! Service was good, and the waiter was very attentive and gave good recommendations. Ambiance was solid, with even better outdoor seating for the nice weather. Highly recommend for a happy hour with good folk.
Popped in for the first time during happy hour! Their happy hour menu had lots of tapas and drink options, that were all very reasonably priced! We got large portions even on the happy hour menu! We started with a pitcher of the white sangria, it was very light and refreshing. And the pitcher was HUGE! Then I had the elotes, which was a very large portion, it had the perfect amount of spice and citrus zing and the cheese on it was very melty and yummy! I also had the Alubias Blanco, the pita with it was perfect grilled and had many slices, the hummus its self was very flavorful was a heaping portion! They have olive oil on the table so I dipped some of my pita in it and WOW it was good! Lastly I had the Pintox de Higo which was truly the star of the show. The goat cheese on it was perfectly creamy, the balsamic gave a beautiful sweetness and the bread its self wasn't too soft or too crunchy! The service was a little slow but over all we loved it and will definitely be back! It's also super cute inside, pretty small but not too loud! Beautiful artwork to look at as well! Parking was the biggest downfall but I was able to park about a block away and walk! They also have a beautiful patio out front as well!
La bodega experience was great today. Thanks to La bodega for the special curated lunch menu for the KC restaurant week. We get to try different dishes in the Tapas sampler (second course) today. Wall paintings, bar area, vibes gave us a proper Spanish experience. We started with House-made soup of the day (Black Bean soup) which was little tangy and actually good. Our second course was a tapas sampler which includes, 1. Pincho de pollo con chorizo - Looked like barbecued chicken & chorizo served in skewer sticks served with a garlic cumin aioli 2. Tortilla espanola - Looked like a potato & onion filled egg torta served with a roasted red pepper aioli 3. Datiles con jamon y chorizo - chorizo wrapped in a pancetta dipped in a fig coulis 4. Bolas de arroz - rice ball 5. Higos y queso de cabra - Goatcheese, roasted pepper, fig coulis in a roasted baguette 6. Brotxeta - pancetta wrapped shrimp My favorite one was #5, #3 & #1. Loved every bit of these 3. Staff suggested to try Almond cake & cheesecake. We loved the almond cake & cheesecake was okay.
Some friends of ours who have lived in KC for a long time recommended La Bodega as one of their favorite places. I had a friend visiting from Washington DC and my wife and I wanted to take her someplace cool and close to the Westin where she was staying. La Bodega fit the bill. The food was good and the service was good. We had a variety of dishes. I enjoy the tapas experience. We ordered the first one, which was a special and it came out quickly and it was delicious. Then I ordered a few more things. And was a little bit surprised when they brought them all within two minutes of each other. So we had four different plates to try all at the same time and they were just getting colder as we worked our way through the dishes. The kitchen/server timing could've been better. That was disappointing. Great sangria, a nice atmosphere and a lovely restaurant.
I can FINALLY cross La Bodega off my "need to try" list, and was it worth the wait! The restaurant itself has this kinda creepy under the bridge parking, that's roaring with cars up above, but once you get out from under there and into the restaurant, you're welcomed by kind greeters and even nicer waitresses. We were sat by a window for 2 and there was plenty of seating available with decent space in between. Beautiful Spanish paintings and photos around the place. Le bf ordered the albondigas, I think, which were meatballs in a cream sauce. I ordered 2 tapas, which were the montaditos del carne de cerdo and escalivada. I wish I was able to try a couple more, but that means the more reason to come back. OH! I also had their potato and leek soup, which was some of the heartiest and delicious starting soups I've ever had. The escalivada is a cold tapas and very refreshing with some pita bread. I liked the cold yogurt with grilled veggies. The pulled pork was a bit salty for my palate, might pass on that next time but worth the try. The cream sauce of the albondigas was DELISH and they came with mini crostinis! Le bf enjoyed the meatballs!
We've been to La Bodega before but had never tried the Spanish Coffee, so this time we went specifically for that. Spoiler: it did not disappoint. The prep is a whole experience. Coffee liqueur, rum, Roasterie coffee, flamed cinnamon, sugar rim, whipped cream. Sitting at the bar means you get a front-row seat every single time one is made. We were mesmerized watching it come together over and over again. The Patatas Bravas also made an appearance. We were so excited we forgot to take a picture, which honestly tells you everything you need to know. It gets busy, so reservations are encouraged. But the staff kept up, everyone was attentive, and we felt well taken care of the whole time. When the weather is nice, the outdoor seating lets you take in the city in the best way. Is it worth a trip from the Northland just for this? For tapas and a real "out for happy hour in the city" kind of night, sí. That Spanish Coffee has us coming back. So, yes! Claro que sí.

I have been going here for a while now. And I keep coming back because the food is so delicious and the service is always satisfying. I would highly recommend coming here with a group of friends because of the small plates and tapas that is served. This restaurant also has one of the best patios it is so comfy and spacious so in the summer sitting outside is definitely a must. read more
What a cool eclectic place! I drive by it often and don't notice it due to the location and small building. But I was super impressed with the ambiance, menu, service and food! This is a small plates tapas restaurant. There were 5 of us and we all ordered 2 plates and shared. We started with a meat and cheese board that was delicious. And enjoyed the 2 potato options as well as the screens of chicken and sausage, and my favorite was the pulled pork and olive tapenade on toast. Can't wait to go back! read more

We only got to one restaurant for KC restaurant week this year but we picked a good one. We opted for brunch and started with a sangria. Starters were the soup of the day and patatas bravas. The soup of the day was tomato basil. It was good but The patatas bravas were really good in the tomato sauce with jalapeños and sour cream. I'd definitely get those again. For entrees we opted for the Tapas sampler and the salmone con arroz. The salmon con arroz consisted of Seared salmon, saffron rice, sauteed spinach, roasted tomato, avocado, and salsa verde. It was very light and fresh with perfectly cooked salmon. The tapas sampler had a lot of little bites: pinchi de pollo con chorizo-Skewered chicken and chorizo, garlic-cumin aioli; tortilla espanola-Potato and onion filled egg torta, red pepper aioli; manchego frito-Fried, breaded Manchego cheese, quince preserves; higos y queso de cabra-Goat cheese, roasted peppers, fig coulis, grilled baguette; and datiles con jamon y chorizo-Chorizo stuffed date wrapped in pancetta. I definitely want to go back to try the Cuban. And more sangria! read more
I used to live in the Crossroads Westside apartment. We always talked about walking over to try the food because of all the positive reviews. And they have the cutest patio. But sadly, we never made it over. When we saw this on Kansas City Restaurant Week 2024. We had no excuse but to take advantage of their $20 menu. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Liam really took care of is. He was attentive and personal. We ordered patatas bravas, and it was so good. Potatoes were cooked perfectly and crisp. I am not sure what the sauce is. But it complimented the potato really well. For 2 course, I got the tapas sampler. The sampler was a good option for first time diner because you got to try a few item of the tapas. The bruschetta was definitely my favorite of the 5 items. I was too full from the patatas bravas to finish the sampler. Overall, I had a great experience and will definitely be back. read more

Lots of seating, and this place is usually pretty busy. They have both outdoor and indoor seating, with variety of tables. The interior is a bit more dim lit which provides a cozier ambiance. Our server was very helpful in providing recommendations and explaining the menu, along with popular dishes and drinks. Decided to go with the seared scallops - these were great. The scallops were well seared, and the base was creamy, smooth, well flavored and paired well with the scallop. Only wish there were more! The paella left more to be desired - it was somewhat dry, and the single lemon did little to improve it. Chicken in the paella tasted also dry and somewhat bland, and the shellfish were also a bit lacking in flavor and tasted somewhat old. Overall, presentation of the food was nice, but some dishes seem definitely better than others. The food was somewhat pricey for the quality of the food in my opinion. The restaurant gives off elevated vibes and prices their dishes similarly, but I was expecting more. I'd considered returning to try out some of their other dishes, but overall an average experience. read more

As someone who loves to order off the appetizer/sides list on menus, this Spanish tapas restaurant is right up my alley. Perfect for those who like to try a little bit of everything , and/or like to share and split meals without committing to giant portions. If the weather permits, try to snag a spot out front - the vibe is just right, with comfortable lounge/patio-like seating arrangements. This is a great place to go with a group of friends - you can choose from a surplus of hot or chilled tapas (small dishes), plus soups, salads, cheeses, and meats and share with the whole group. Happy hour deals are pretty great as well! $7 tapas, half priced sangria glasses and pitchers, and some $6 glasses of wine. I really enjoyed the ensalada de mariscos (citrus marinated seafood), elotes (charred corn with cheese and smoked paprika), Patatas bravas (spicy potatoes in sauce), and alcachofas con jamon y manchego (fried Spanish artichokes with ham and cheese). The red and white sangrias were light and refreshing additions to the meal. Save room for dessert! The churros are delicious. One visit, our server suggested a drink pairing (wish I could remember the drink name) which did not disappoint. Rich, decadent, and the perfect cap to a delicious meal. Came here for a special happy hour celebration for my besties birthday. The two things that were memorable were the elotes and the Spanish coffee. The food was overall 3 stars because of the blandness. It was served hot and fresh, it just needed more flavor. Service and ambiance was 4.5 stars. The elotes corn dish was to die for. It was so inspiring that my friend talked about how she is going to make it soon. And the Spanish coffee is just super special. She'd never had it, so I knew she had to see it. Once she read the description, she wanted one too. She loved it. As she said, "it's a drink with a show." So there were some things that were disappointing. The baked goat cheese was very underwhelming. It's literally bland salsa and plain goat cheese with crostinis. There is no spice. That means the cheese has no flavor. It was extremely boring. Could have been good, if only the cheese had been given some seasoning. The mushrooms were just ok. For $9, I expected way more flavor. This is on the regular menu. It's served with bits of garlic that tastes and chews as if completely raw. If only it had been roasted garlic, it would have been so much better. The shrooms I had cooked at home the night before were way better, but to be fair, my mushrooms are amazing so my bar was set pretty high. The steak with blue cheese was good (regular menu). It was cooked perfectly medium, as we ordered. Was it market price of $35 good? No, not really. But it was an experience. Service was excellent as we were there at 3pm on a Monday. There was only one other table occupied inside. And the floral arrangement in the entryway was breathtaking. It's a special occasion place and I'm glad that I could make my best friends birthday very special. I may be back for cocktails sometime and I'll stick to the happy hour menu. read more

La Bodega is a go-to for me - especially when it comes to large groups. They accommodated our group of 20 from 5:30p-8:30pm on Saturday, July 9 with a $45 minimum per person (including food AND beverages). We submitted a pre-order to ensure we were served in a timely manner. But we were able to add items once we arrived. Final headcount was due 3 days prior to our reservation and they allowed us to split our check 4 ways. Some of my favorite tapas are: papas fritas con ajo, albondigas caseras, elotes and gambas a la plancha. Don't sleep on their happy hour (from 2-6pm) and sangria! read more
Loved everything about La Bodega. From ambience to food. You'll feel like you're transported to Spain. This is the type of restaurant that stirs conversations. Love the Spain life motto of sharing dishes and stories. Decor : So beautifully well done. The color story felt intimate. (It really reminded me of Italy. ) Space: It's got outdoor and indoor seating but during the winter season they close the patio. I encourage you to definitely make a reservation because the restaurant is quite small. There are high tops and low tops. Parking : Tricky...there is some parking under the bridge and across the street. With the location on a busy street just look before you cross. Food : Elotes 10/10, Paella Valencia 10/10 (we ordered a small and that was great for 3 ppl) , Solomillo con Cabrales 8/10, Higos y Queso de Cabra 10/10 Drinks: I had the Vermouth Flight and it was perfect for me. We went to happy hour 2-5pm, we got so many different items I couldn't keep up. But the sangria was amazing! The red is a little drier than the white sangria. But both are delicious! Our waitress was great and attentive. This place gets pretty packed for brunch. I think the brunch items were all delicious, I would probably eat from the regular menu next time. I would come back again. Also the artwork on the wall was cool and interesting. Some not suitable for kids. read more

Menu changes since my last post, so new faves: - grilled beef tenderloin with a blue cheese crust - lightly fried artichokes with a to die for manchego cheese sauce and crispy jamon - stuffed dates and papas fritas (still!) The lardo iberico was literally the fatty part of jamon seared to the top of a baguette slice. Just ok to me. And they used to do fresh baguette service but this time we only got sort of stale slices with olive oil drizzle (or grilled for the mussels). Oh and the mushrooms are delightful: like the preparation for escargot but for mushrooms. Friendly service (a bit fast paced given the small tables) and a lovely bottle of wine. We live the vibe here and will keep coming back! read more
You can't go wrong with a visit to La Bodega! There are various tapas to select from, and the skewered chicken and chorizo was great--- juicy and flavorful. I absolutely love tapas and La Bodega definitely hit the mark for me. Everything I tried was delicious and flavorful. The Croquetas were crispy with a savory filling. The Papas Fritas were well seasoned with delicious yogurt sauce balancing out all the flavors. The Higos y queso de cabra was my favorite dish I tried. The goat cheese paired so well with the peppers and fig spread. It was light and airy, perfect for a warm day. The sangria was half off on Sunday which was a huge plus. Our waitress was so kind and helpful. The restaurant itself gives you the impression that you are actually in Spain with how well it was decorated and furnished. I will 100% be returning and could not recommend this lovely restaurant enough! read more

Paella was awful. It should be the star dish from any Spanish restaurant, not for this restaurant. Paella here was dry, lack of flavor, very blunt. Croquetas were also very tasteless. On the other hand, white sangria was delicious and very refreshing. This is more a place to get tapas ( appetizers) like ham or cheese and have a drink or two No may options in Kansas city area for legit spanish food read more

While in Kansas City I had a chance to check out La Bodega on a Friday night. We did not have a reservation and it was a lot of people there so we had to sit at the bar which was fine. We ordered their speciality sangria which was a combination of sangria and margarita. It was good! We ordered several tapas and shared them. The food was all delicious and came out rather quickly. Our 1st stop for Restaurant Week abs it was packed! We were seating at our reservation time so that was fabulous. Since we came for Restaurant Week we choose the priz Fix menu. Course 1 & 2 came out timely course 3 was a much longer weight and as we had theater tix we took course 4 ( dessert to go) We had not been here in years so this was quite a treat to be back! The featured menu is not as tapas focused ... not multiple small plate offering. I really liked the salad with blood oranges ... yumm. Course 2 was a sampler- great idea as when we were trying what to pick there were so many great choices. But we got 1 of each !!! Honestly probably my favorite course!!! Course 3 I had spinach & Chicken crepes and he had the squid dish. I looked over and his was half gone in a blink so apparently it was amazing. Mine I wasn't the biggest fan but it's rich! Really rich and chocked full of spinach with some chicken. Frankly he finished mine as well... lol. We did get the churros to go so I get ti enjoy that raspberry chocolate surprise the next day!!! Go and try things out!!! What a fabulous way to taste so many flavors and smells at one sitting. read more
I always have a great time when I come to La Bodega! We stopped in for 2022 restaurant week for the $35 dinner deal. I was super excited that the 2nd course was a sampler plate of the tapas options (because how was I supposed to choose??), and I would definitely order any of the options on its own again! The entrees were both tasty - the waitress said that the chicken and calamari dishes were the most popular options, and we could see why! The dessert was the shining star. The raspberry filled churros were delicious! Super cozy place to have some tapas and Sangria. The place was pretty hoppin until late so I would recommend a reservation on weekends at dinner time. There's a parking lot under the overpass off of Southwest Blvd northeast of the restaurant that usually has parking! read more
This place was absolutely exceptional! We didn't have a reservation on a Sunday & it was packed but luckily we found two seats at the bar. Service was amazing thanks to our hostess & awesome bartender (shout out to Dani & Elizabeth) for making our experience so wonderful. They gave great recommendations & the food was incredible. Our favorite was the fried artichokes & brotxeta. You also can't go wrong with any of the shrimp dishes. We also loved the sangria so much we ordered a pitcher since it was half off for happy hour! Food was delicious. They serve tapas so all the portions are a little small. Me and my boyfriend split 2 hot tapas and 1 cold tapas. The food is so flavorful and genuinely delicious. Our waitress Mara was fantastic and super insightful. She helped us pick out what we wanted. Everything was delicious. The only negative part was the hostess. She had a very unwelcoming attitude and seemed to look me up and down while we were walking out. I felt very rushed out of there, or like I wasn't "cool" enough to be in there. I don't often feel like that but she had a very mean girl / high school judgmental attitude. My boyfriend and I both agreed we probably won't be returning because of the vibe we felt from her. Very unwelcoming. Good food tho. And Mara was great. read more

A while back for my friend's bachelorette party we stopped in for brunch with the bridal party. We loved the family style dishes which were absolutely delicious. This is an amazing spot for large groups. In the warmer months the patio dining area is gorgeous. Will have to come back sometime soon to try their dinner menu. read more
