Slow, slow, slow service. 1 bartender and 1 server for the place. 2 different kitchen guys hanging out by the bar at different times and yet we still waited forever for our food to come out. Amazing service. Like, suspiciously good -- the kind where you wonder if you're about to be recruited into a secret society. Highly recommend hitting their happy hour, where Four Roses bourbon flows at $6 a pour. At that price, you're not drinking bourbon -- you're investing in happiness. Honestly, I could've stayed there all night, slowly transforming into one of those cautionary tales they tell at brunch the next morning. Speaking of brunch: stayed at the hotel, had the breakfast, lived to tell the tale -- it was solid. Nothing like recovering from $6 bourbon bliss with some well-executed eggs. The restaurant and bar ambiance? Very nice. Very adult. The kind of place where you feel fancy but still just trashy enough to aggressively chase $6 bourbon like it's a competitive sport. Nothing truly spectacular except the space, which in itself is both timeless and trendy especially for a restaurant attached to a hotel. The black and white checkered floors and the large dark heavy wooden bar with shiny brass accents take center stage whereas, the food fades away into the background. I have been here a few times and each and every time no matter what I order I leave unsatisfied. A solo diner of overpriced salmon proved uneventful even though the spicy jam component was so yummy I did have to ask for a side of it to make the rest of the lackluster meal worth eating. For around $30 a plate I want to feel like some thought was put behind my food here it seems to just be put on a plate and pushed out. Also, tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and try it with a friend for happy hour. Even worse. Just stick with the regular menu, the hummus tasted like sawdust- literally grainy and under seasoned and I've had some pretty fantastic hummus around. Nothing at all stood out as worth ordering again except the Gouda aranici and the jalapeño cheese bread was alright but, could be more decadent. What shines here, other than the decor, is the seasonal cocktails are usually quite inventive. But, one missed the mark for me. It was a take on a French 75 with earl grey tea infused gin however, the gin seemed to not be properly strained and contained loose floating tea particles and was quite muddy and unappealing in color. The drink itself was too concentrated in an unpleasant herbaceous flavor and I needed it to be topped with more brut to balance it out, luckily it's no longer on the menu. Case in point, if you are staying at Hotel Indigo or if the other restaurants in the area are insanely busy then sure it's fine. But, I can only recommend with good conscience staying for some cheese stuffed fried rice balls and a speciality seasonal sipper and then finding supper elsewhere. read more

Want to love this place as it's adorable inside, but it's honestly hit or miss. Went here once with a group of girlfriends, and had a great time - good music playing, tasty cocktails, and the bartenders were attentive and quick. The other visits were a bit of a let down, and food was just ok. Came in another time (hour before close) for a couple drinks with my boyfriend, and before we could even order a second, the bartender kept rushing us to finish because "they'll be kicking everyone out soon to close". Not a great look, but everyone has those days. Overall, come here for the drinks, but the foods worth skipping. Anytime I drive by they seem to be closed, so maybe it's a staffing issue. read more

We were staying at the indigo hotel and decided to try out the restaurant attached to it. I have no idea why it wasn't packed because it was DELISH!! The ambiance is clean, friendly, full of tvs but fine dining at the same time. We started off with the poutine and it was delish! I had the nachos and it was sooo good. I asked for no pico... the chef himself came to our table and asked if it was okay to have jalapeños in the meat. It was so thoughtful for him to ask and check. I was staying at the Hotel Indigo KC for work. I arrived on a rainy Sunday and didn't feel like walking around to search for dinner. I cozied up at the bar and had a couple of beers along with a burger and fries. Decent food at a somewhat reasonable cost considering the location. I may need to come back at some point this week due my long work days. read more

An incredibly pleasant surprise ending to a great weekend in KC. Received a voucher from the connected Hotel Indigo for a complimentary breakfast and we could not have been more pleased with the experience. Our adorable waitress Juanis was so friendly and clearly proud of the establishment. The strong Parisi coffee was great and all of our food was expertly prepared. I had the eggs Benedict sans the spinach and unlike what others have written here found it to be OUTSTANDING. In particular the hollandaise was rich and delicious with the butter browned to perfection. This will be a must stop on future trips to KC. read more

Great Saturday morning breakfast! We started out having Brittani make us two spectacular spicy bloody Mary's, then followed by two perfectly flavorful vanilla cappuccinos. We decided to try the breakfast tacos, and shrimp and grit benedict with a side of breakfast potatoes. What a delightful flavor combo for both entrees. The sweet chili oil that finished the tacos added that punch of flavor to put them over the top. The plating, aroma and beauty of the shrimp and grit breakfast was on point. Restaurants in Kansas City with both excellent breakfast selections and craft coffee drinks are in short supply. I have been on the hunt for a while. I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across this wonderful spot on my way somewhere else one Sunday morning. The only downside is parking and I think that was only a problem for me today because I'm here on a chief's versus bills Sunday and there's a lot of chiefs and bills fans in local hotels. I often frequent this area of downtown for a Sunday meeting and I've never seen so much traffic. I do wish they had more than vanilla to choose from for the lattes but the All-American was my selection and it was perfection on a plate!!! Wow! I am so impressed with the flavors and quantity of these items. The potatoes were so crispy and seasoned perfectly. They had a slight garlic and Parmesan flavor with parsley flakes. The sourdough breakfast sandwich was flavorful from the tomato and bacon and the bread was also crispy. The cinnamon roll was SO GOOD and not too heavy. The prices are a little high but the quantity makes up for it. I went around 11:30 on Saturday and it wasn't super busy. The waitress was friendly and attentive for having to manage all the tables herself. It also wasn't loud which I always appreciate. My friends and I were told of this place that was right around the corner from our hotel, Hotel Phillips. So glad we went! The server was fabulous and gave us the top breakfast items that are truly yummy. Truly enjoyed the veggie omelette with a cup of fruit and my husband enjoyed his sausage and over-easy eggs. Called this restaurant ahead of arrival on a Sunday morning to see if reservations were needed. We were told this is a first come first served establishment and we'd be seated immediately if I we arrived within 10 minutes. We arrived in 5! It was a pretty quiet restaurant connected to Indigo Hotel and the overall setting was reminiscent of a classic diner. It may have been the red and black but it definitely felt slightly retro. Unfortunately, they didn't have a bartender working that day and there were only a few drinks to choose from as the servers weren't trained to bartend. The food was cooked to order and was very pleasing to our palate. The French Toast was superb! It was fluffy with a slightly crispy exterior and warm soft interior. My perfectly style. The potatoes were so golden, slightly crispy and hot. My avocado and bacon sandwich was savory and the tomatoes were marinated and delicious even by themselves. My husband ordered steak and eggs although it was not a menu option. He figured since they have a dinner menu, they MUST have a steak somewhere and he was right! He was offered a ribeye or 6oz steak and he chose the ribeye. The chef cooked it to perfection and no sauce was needed whatsoever. After the hotel kicked us out 10 minutes before checkout time, we came to their restaurant to eat breakfast. Staff, with a confused look on their face, didn't know if the bar was open seating or not.. We waited to ask another staff member. After taking a seat we tried to order drinks. Same staff member didn't know what soda drinks were available. As I start naming popular brands he says they only have coke products (no dr pepper, no root beer) so I request Sprite which they actually have. During ordering my wife tried to get the two egg breakfast, she was then told she couldn't sub the sourdough toast for rye... If I was staying at Hotel Indigo, I would love to start my day with a coffee and end my day with a beer here. As a KC native, I don't have a burning desire to go back. They had a pretty limited selection of draft beers and a standard common cocktail menu. Neither of us thought our drinks were anything special. I do think that the pricing here is fair, and the floating shelves at the bar make for a pretty spectacular backdrop! read more

I've recently discovered that it's super nice and convenient to simply eat at the restaurant of the hotel you're staying at. Most of the time when traveling for work, the only fun one gets to have is to find new cool restaurants and bars in Yelp to frequent. But there's something to be said for saving a lot of research and travel time when you STAY PUT and get back to your room with more time for recuperation... before starting all over again tomorrow. If you happen to stay at the Indigo Hotel in Downtown KC, or you're near the famous Power District looking for decent food and drink, Dott Boss is an excellent choice. They have a small menu in terms of number of total offerings, but I was able to find solid selections for three dinners and two breakfasts when I stayed in KC for three nights. The service staff were super friendly. The food comes out shockingly fast. They have a great bar with around 10? beers on tap. The hotel and restaurant opened Dec of 2017 after a 30 million dollar renovation that is beautiful. Check out the restrooms :-), check out the hotel, and try the large $4 house salad. Came for some late evening cocktails with some friends and we had a great time! Cocktail menu has something for everyone. Whiskey for the hubby, mule for the bestie and blue cheese gin for the lady. With all the other excellent choices in this area, save your money and go elsewhere. My girlfriends and I came for some drinks and apps after attending a wedding cake tasting this evening. HUGE letdown. The service was absolutely trash. Our server almost never checked on us, was oblivious to empty glasses, and required two reminders to finally have the tv changed to the Royals game. We almost never saw her and we were one table out of two in the entire restaurant so lord knows she had nothing else to do. The food was really pathetic. The nachos were DISGUSTING, I've been more impressed by nachos from Taco Bell, which makes their price points even more offensive. Dry, boring, hardly any toppings, stale chips, no thanks. The steak poutine fries (which I missed getting a pic of) was the only thing remotely edible. The pot stickers were fine, but nothing I haven't made from the frozen section of the grocery store. No dipping sauces. I got an old fashioned to drink and I'm certain it was 90% simple syrup. Couldn't taste any whiskey and no buzz after two of them. Save your money and go somewhere else. It's been a little while since we've eaten and drunk at Dott Boss and we just did both last night. The experience was EXTREMELY enjoyable! We had a lot fun. We ate at the bar, and were happy to be served and entertained primarily by Allen, but really all the staff teamed up in an incredibly well-coordinated display of outstanding service. This was a team that works very well together - Brian (Bryan?), Allen, Scotty, and Lara (hope I got that one right, too) all worked well together in serving both my wife and me and also the entire restaurant in general. If one was taking an order, the other was making drinks or providing water or asking if we need a refill, or serving one of the food dishes. I mean, we were never lacking for anything and enjoyed conversations with Brian, Allen, and Lara, and they all made the experience a whole lot of fun. Now, the food. Wow, it was good before but it's even better now. For an appetizer, we started with the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were unbelievably fresh and sweet. I would put Dott Boss's shrimp cocktail up again anyone's in this city and I mean better than restaurants like Bristol and even McCormick and Schmick's. Even the cocktail sauce was delicious. For my main dish, I had the meatloaf special (not the regular meatloaf menu item but a dish layered with meatloaf on the bottom, with a potato cake above it, then a little garlic ketchup (flavorful ketchup with little bits of garlic in it), and a few onion straws. This dish was a total winner. Hats off to the chef and the sous chef for coming up with this creation and executing it to perfection. I am not normally a fan of either meatloaf or onion straws, but both dishes really stood out and impressed me (as did the potato cake). All the elements worked very well together. There were times that I cut completely through it from top to bottom and ate all of the components together, and other times where I separated them to eat just a piece of each so I could sample them individually, but both methods produced outstanding flavorful bites every time. The meatloaf was tasty, with a perfect consistency (not too loose but not too firm), and a nice level of spice/herb. The potato cake was absolutely great because you could really taste potato flavor not overwhelmed by the crust and it didn't taste oily like some potato cakes, it was great. Even the onion straws were delicious - again, because it was not oily or greasy, and the coating did not fall completely off of the onion - that bad boy stayed together. I think you get the idea. I really liked the meatloaf special. They use really good providers for their food and serve Messenger Coffee (which is great). Oh and the drinks these bartenders make are excellent as well. Blue Train Martini is one of my favorites, but those Manhattans Allen makes are just great too. I've also had the Gin Berry Press when I'm in the mood for a sweeter drink, and it's great too. On top of that, yet another set of winners from KC Wineworks are served at this bar. They were out of the red blend but the Chambourcin was excellent. I have not yet had a miss with any of KC Wineworks' offerings. This place has a nice vibe and it's attached to the Hotel Indigo, also a great place that's fun to stay at. We are treated so well here by the staff of both the hotel and restaurant side, we really appreciate that familiarity (I will separately review the hotel). We didn't happen to be here during the week but the happy hour is a really good deal here as well. I would not overlook Dott Boss. It's actually gotten better since we were last here, and last night's dinner and drinks were an experience we'll remember because it was so positive. This place has great drinks, great food, and outstanding service. Another good time at Dot Boss. With Al (Allen) as our bartender, we really enjoyed ourselves. He's a lot of fun to interact with, he's attentive, and he makes great drinks. In my case, the blue train martini was excellent, and in my wife's case, the mojito was great. He really took good care of us and we appreciate that. Also the food is still excellent. Really liked the chicken wings even though they were buffalo style and not the red pepper and onion braised style as indicated on the menu. The steak was good but not great, but what WAS great was the pork schnitzel sandwich. Man, that was one excellent sandwich. Not too much breading, you could actually taste the pork, and the breading that was there was well seasoned. Came with a nice grain mustard and what really impressed me was the apple slaw dressing right on top of the schnitzel patty. Excellent slaw! And a nice warm soft bun. Perfect. Ate here a couple of months ago. I was staying at Hotel Indigo and had two late dinners here. On the first day, had Terminal Nachos, Chicken Creamy Pesto Pasta, and Carrot Cake. The Terminal Nachos were disappointing. The meat was dry and overcooked. The Chicken Creamy Pesto Pasta, on the other hand, was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. It probably had more calories than I would normally eat in a day, but it was worth it. The Carrot Cake did not disappoint, but also didn't knock my socks off. One the second day, I had Broccoli (I think it was Seared), which has been replaced by Sauteed Asparagus on their current menu. This was meant as an appetizer, but I ate it as a side. I also had the Streetcar Smash Burger. The Broccoli tasted like it was freshly prepared and was just a little bit al dente (compared to most restaurants that overcook their broccoli). The Burger was very good, but not memorable. I don't recall what I had for dessert. There was a live performer that second night (was a Friday). The place is well-lit, clean, and has a trendy feel. It is relatively small, with a bar taking up about a third of the space and tables and booths taking up the rest. Overall, the food was a mixed bag. The Chicken Creamy Pesto Pasta was awesome. The other things I had were decent, but not memorable, particularly when one considers the prices, which were on the higher side. The service was friendly. If I was staying at the Hotel Indigo , I would probably end up eating here again just for the convenience. I am not sure I would go out of my way to come back here though, unless I had a particular craving for pasta. read more
