La Bodega is one of my favs in KC. The menu is diverse and delicious. The tapas are shareable dishes with creative flavor combinations inspired by Spanish cuisine. The Cabrale Flatbread special was tasty with flavorful steak and fluffy flatbread. I especially loved the Montaditos del Carne de Cerdo. The braised pork and the accoutrements on top tasted so good together! Our server was attentive and helpful. She gave great recommendations. She suggested we ordered two tapas per person. With 4 people, we ordered 6 tapas and struggled to finish them, so take that suggestion with a grain of salt ;) The weather tonight was perfect for outdoor seating. La Bodega has a beautiful outdoor seating area with canopies and color that make you feel like you're not under an interstate in KC. It's lovely. The inside is also quite aesthetically pleasing with beautiful art and neat lighting. I love coming back to this place when I visit KC. It's a must try!
La Bodega has been a favorite for many moons! Dare I say, one of the best happy hours and industry nights in Kansas City. Friendly and knowledgeable staff in a setting that is always buzzing with a fabulous sense of community. Ample gluten-free and vegetarian selections make it perfect for most!
First time here and it was a good experience. I'm from Los Angeles so I love Latin cuisines and this spot did a great job on all levels. Food: The food was good and had flavor, the presentation and portions were not bad. The starters were small so be sure to order multiples for larger groups. The fresh oysters were really good, the paella was really good and large in portion size great table shareable or as a entree. The cheese board had a really good variety of cheeses and crackers with some fruit. That was a nice little gem on the menu. They do serve alcohol but could be a little more consistency on the pours. Two of the same drinks tasted completely different and they do have a wine section. Service: The staff was nice and quickly provided seating for our large group of 10 people. Our waiter was great! He took orders checked on us and provided some really good feedback on menu items when asked. Thank you, Atmosphere: I love the decor! It was rustic with hand pai ted murals and gave a artistic vibe to our experience. However, I was not a fan of the metal tables, it felt to industrial and the tables were off balance as well. The size of the table were also interacting as they seemed really skinny and most likely ment for smaller groups like 2 people. The ceiling at La Bodega was the best part of the decor. It was such a great twist on smearing colors together. Price: Coming from Los Anegeles I thought the prices were right on targetand fit with the portion sizes. Location: It's located in Kansas City Mousori. Parking: We ubered to the restaurant but parking did look to be tight on the street side not sure if they have another lot in the back.
I went to la bodega a handful of times several years ago and it was always good-- but I felt it could have been better. WELL I went back recently and every dish was elevated, delicious and the service was great. Way better than it had been in the past. I recommend the sangria with champagne on top, deviled eggs and sausage platter. Happy hour is incredible with sangria pitchers being 50% off!!
Went with a friend for happy hour and definitely exceeded my expectations. The sangria was top notch and the deviled eggs were very good! Service was good, and the waiter was very attentive and gave good recommendations. Ambiance was solid, with even better outdoor seating for the nice weather. Highly recommend for a happy hour with good folk.
Popped in for the first time during happy hour! Their happy hour menu had lots of tapas and drink options, that were all very reasonably priced! We got large portions even on the happy hour menu! We started with a pitcher of the white sangria, it was very light and refreshing. And the pitcher was HUGE! Then I had the elotes, which was a very large portion, it had the perfect amount of spice and citrus zing and the cheese on it was very melty and yummy! I also had the Alubias Blanco, the pita with it was perfect grilled and had many slices, the hummus its self was very flavorful was a heaping portion! They have olive oil on the table so I dipped some of my pita in it and WOW it was good! Lastly I had the Pintox de Higo which was truly the star of the show. The goat cheese on it was perfectly creamy, the balsamic gave a beautiful sweetness and the bread its self wasn't too soft or too crunchy! The service was a little slow but over all we loved it and will definitely be back! It's also super cute inside, pretty small but not too loud! Beautiful artwork to look at as well! Parking was the biggest downfall but I was able to park about a block away and walk! They also have a beautiful patio out front as well!
La bodega experience was great today. Thanks to La bodega for the special curated lunch menu for the KC restaurant week. We get to try different dishes in the Tapas sampler (second course) today. Wall paintings, bar area, vibes gave us a proper Spanish experience. We started with House-made soup of the day (Black Bean soup) which was little tangy and actually good. Our second course was a tapas sampler which includes, 1. Pincho de pollo con chorizo - Looked like barbecued chicken & chorizo served in skewer sticks served with a garlic cumin aioli 2. Tortilla espanola - Looked like a potato & onion filled egg torta served with a roasted red pepper aioli 3. Datiles con jamon y chorizo - chorizo wrapped in a pancetta dipped in a fig coulis 4. Bolas de arroz - rice ball 5. Higos y queso de cabra - Goatcheese, roasted pepper, fig coulis in a roasted baguette 6. Brotxeta - pancetta wrapped shrimp My favorite one was #5, #3 & #1. Loved every bit of these 3. Staff suggested to try Almond cake & cheesecake. We loved the almond cake & cheesecake was okay.
Some friends of ours who have lived in KC for a long time recommended La Bodega as one of their favorite places. I had a friend visiting from Washington DC and my wife and I wanted to take her someplace cool and close to the Westin where she was staying. La Bodega fit the bill. The food was good and the service was good. We had a variety of dishes. I enjoy the tapas experience. We ordered the first one, which was a special and it came out quickly and it was delicious. Then I ordered a few more things. And was a little bit surprised when they brought them all within two minutes of each other. So we had four different plates to try all at the same time and they were just getting colder as we worked our way through the dishes. The kitchen/server timing could've been better. That was disappointing. Great sangria, a nice atmosphere and a lovely restaurant.
I can FINALLY cross La Bodega off my "need to try" list, and was it worth the wait! The restaurant itself has this kinda creepy under the bridge parking, that's roaring with cars up above, but once you get out from under there and into the restaurant, you're welcomed by kind greeters and even nicer waitresses. We were sat by a window for 2 and there was plenty of seating available with decent space in between. Beautiful Spanish paintings and photos around the place. Le bf ordered the albondigas, I think, which were meatballs in a cream sauce. I ordered 2 tapas, which were the montaditos del carne de cerdo and escalivada. I wish I was able to try a couple more, but that means the more reason to come back. OH! I also had their potato and leek soup, which was some of the heartiest and delicious starting soups I've ever had. The escalivada is a cold tapas and very refreshing with some pita bread. I liked the cold yogurt with grilled veggies. The pulled pork was a bit salty for my palate, might pass on that next time but worth the try. The cream sauce of the albondigas was DELISH and they came with mini crostinis! Le bf enjoyed the meatballs!
We've been to La Bodega before but had never tried the Spanish Coffee, so this time we went specifically for that. Spoiler: it did not disappoint. The prep is a whole experience. Coffee liqueur, rum, Roasterie coffee, flamed cinnamon, sugar rim, whipped cream. Sitting at the bar means you get a front-row seat every single time one is made. We were mesmerized watching it come together over and over again. The Patatas Bravas also made an appearance. We were so excited we forgot to take a picture, which honestly tells you everything you need to know. It gets busy, so reservations are encouraged. But the staff kept up, everyone was attentive, and we felt well taken care of the whole time. When the weather is nice, the outdoor seating lets you take in the city in the best way. Is it worth a trip from the Northland just for this? For tapas and a real "out for happy hour in the city" kind of night, sí. That Spanish Coffee has us coming back. So, yes! Claro que sí.

I love the patio outside it is a great space and is totally inviting great to share small plates with friends or family. You can dine inside as well but we chose outside because it was a gorgeous evening and perfect patio weather. Service was great our server was Savannah she was really attentive and gave us recommendations. As soon as our food was ready because we ordered several plates if Savanah wasn't available another staff member brought our dish out which is awesome to keep the tapas flowing. I love tapas and have been to some really great places before so I hyped myself up for this visit being my first time at LA bodega. I was truly looking forward to the paella, myself and adult kids all thought it was ok but tasted like it was store bought. My sons wife said it tasted like knorr rice to her. So that was not great, but we ordered many other dishes. The elotes was delicious, we had papas Freitas con ajo the fried potates were crispy and had a really great flavor, Cotillas cortas this was braised short rib it tasted ok but just like a pot roast i was expecting a diffent flavor but it was good and tender, Embitidos mixtos sausages with potatoes and curtido very good and ensalda de sandia tomato y queso watermelon and tomatoes salad with feta so freshing and tasty. Had an unplanned visit due to an unfortunate family event and couldn't get a table for a highly rated French restaurant. I snagged a last minute reservation for this Spanish restaurant instead. I truly did not have high expectations coming in thinking that this city is more known for their barbecue than their Spanish restaurants. I ordered a cocktail, albondigas caseras, gambas ajillo,& papas fritas con ajo. I was only there to eat and run because I was waiting for family to arrive from their flight in to town. I thought it would take me longer to eat but I practically inhaled my tapas because they were so good. I was in for a very sad occasion, but the smile on my face from the albondigas and my entire experience here was much needed. I wish I could transport the albondigas here and I've since tried to replicate them at home because they were that delicious!! Thank you so much for the good food and the smile when I was feeling out of sorts. Con mucho amor!! read more
All of the good things I want to say have probably already been said. La Bodega is a KC date night staple but also great for brunching and happy hour. Their Sangria is a must try but all of the custom cocktails have been delicious as well. A few of my favorite tapas are the albondigas (ask for extra crostinis), the chicken and chorizo skewers and the pancetta wrapped shrimp. If you can get there in nice weather, sit on the patio - great vibes! read more
Wanted to try a new restaurant for KC RESTAURANT WEEK 2023. The atmosphere was quick and tight, this place is HIP! The manager was able to seat us quickly and was able to accommodate though the building was packed. The customer service was quick and fast, this is a great establishment if you want to escape daily life! People love to drink here. Kid friendly as well.... We haven't been to a tapas place in quite a long time since Covid closed the one in Leawood. We didn't even know this La Bodega existed until I came across it on Yelp. Glad we found it! People were dressed casual until 6pm rolled around. Parking can be hard to find if you come after 6:pm on a weekend. We went yesterday around 5:30pm. The parking is right across the street from the restaurant. When you walk up to get to the door entrance, there's lots of patio seatings outside. We finally found the entrance, and was greeted by a smiling hostess. Now mind you we didn't have any reservations, but was able to get seating outside on the patio right away. If we wanted inside, there are bar tops. But just listening to the hostess talk to other guests, there would be a wait if you want to sit inside without reservations. The ambiance is so relaxing and super cute. The hostess we had was so friendly and patient with us since we haven't been to this location before. She told us this La Bodega is the first location they opened in KC. Anyways, we ordered 4 different dishes, and they were pretty good. I totally forgot the names of them, but I did take pictures! Lol! The shrimp plate that we ordered was $16, and I thought that was a little bit excessive for the price. It was tasty though. Other than that, the other plates we ordered was priced ok. The 2 drinks I ordered were the margarita and white sangria. So good! This place has great drinks, good food, amazing service, and great ambiance. We will definitely frequent this place often when the weather is nice outside. We will come try out their happy hour which is from Monday to Friday from 2pm - 5:pm. Sundays are half off sangrias all day. read more

One of the best patios in the city and parking is so easy! Great place to meet up with friends for happy hour (sangria specials- um I think, yes!!), share a few tapas and enjoy the ambiance. I will say my friend and I ordered three tapas and were full! Ask about portion sizes before diving into a ton of tapas, although, they were all amazing with such unique flavors!! read more

I'm passionate about a good tapas place after being in Spain many times. So visiting here for the first time, I decided to stick to Tapas. All great choices, croquetas de jamón, fried artichoke with ibérico ham, scallops and mussels with chorizo, to die for!! Kristin was our server, nice, friendly and the restaurant atmosphere, in winter time, very cozy. Would definitely repeat the visit in summer time. Enjoy your visit, excellent food! read more
This place is fantastic! Every time I've come here I've enjoyed my experience. The restaurant is darling and always well kept. We came here for my sisters 30th birthday and the server was nice enough to put the ice cream cake back in their freezer till we were ready to eat it. I love that their menu focuses on tapas so that you can experience many different plates and tastes. They're also generous sizes too so you can share! They have good vegetarian/vegan and pescatarian options. Great place is you're looking for some authentic Spanish tapas and amazing cocktails! They have happy hours on Mondays for their cocktails so def have to hit them up on Mondays! Their drink specials are always delicious - you won't be disappointed! Loved this place. I have to come back when its not 20 degrees so I can experience the patio, but the inside was warm, cozy and has lots of character. I had the calamari, it came with a red sauce and on top of bread it was the Calamari Romesco with seared calamari in red sauce, capers, golden raisins and spanish olives. It could've used more flavor, it was bland, but the calamari was cooked well. The I ordered the Paella Valenciana with chicken, mussels, clams, shrimp, chorizo and string beans. It was very tasty. Just make sure if you order this place it early, because it does take them a while to make the Paella. My two friends placed their own order and I didn't get to sample theirs but it looked good. To end my meal I ordered the Spanish Coffee. It had Liquor, Rum, Flamed Cinnamon and Sugar and house made whip cream. It was heavenly. They usually make it at the table but I think they were busy and couldn't do it but I saw them make it at the bar. As for the service everyone was nice. I felt bad for the server because I think she was all alone. Our cups weren't filled out as often. And I came in with a gift certificate. When I gave it to her, her whole demeanor changed and I could tell she was annoyed...we tipped her well, so not sure what that was about. I did enjoy my experience, I gave it three stars because I think the food could've used more flavor and the waitress attitude when I pulled out my gift certificate kinda took me aback. Overall I will come back. It was a nice cute place. read more
I can't say enough great things about La Bodega! I have been here for a bridal shower and a birthday. The staff takes GREAT care of their customers. They went above and beyond with keeping the ice cream cake in a freezer for us while we ate their delicious tapas. 10/10 recommend trying the QUESO DE CABRA AL HORNO tapa...this was the top hit at our table! If they have a drink special...try it! You won't be disappointed. The chicken and chorizo skewers were also a top hit! Tapas are generally pretty small, but I think the portions are quite generous here! Check out La Bodega in KC. read more

Wonderful ambiance and amazing staff! Our waitress was very friendly. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I wished there was a dish with chips and the margarita I had was very sour. But if you're not hoping to get either of those, you'll be set! The Spanish coffee is made at the table and was delicious! read more

La Bodega was quite the experience. We came on a Sunday for half off sangria. They were accommodating to us and let us sit outside as we had dogs with us. Every dish was amazing! I highly recommend coming during happy hour! read more
My buddy recommended this place to me and had to try it. Didn't have a reservation and luckily was able to get right in. Service was attentive and so on the ball. Didn't have to wait for anything, food came out in a timely manner and was fresh and delicious. My favorites were the Burrata tapa, and Crespelle de Feta y Puerros (had goat cheese). They also had street corn (elote) which was tasty as well. Finished off the meal with a chocolate mousse. For sure will be back! read more

Normally, when I leave la bodega I'm always craving more. However, when I went this last time - the food was saltier then I could imagine and the service was impeccably slow. The only consistent item we ordered was the sangria and the coffee drink! We moved from our table to go to the bar to get better service and thankfully we did cause our bartender put on a show, made great drinks, and really turned our experience around. read more

Yummm! Who knew KC had such a cultural food scene!? We came here starving and didn't know what to order when we saw the menu... so asked our waitress what was best to order and she led us to a great meal! For 3 people, we got 3 hot tapas plates and a small paella. However, I was with 2 boys who definitely could've eaten more so we could've done 2 more hot tapas or even the large paella I reckon. Either way though, the food was incredibly tasty .. and there were many others enjoying cocktails of Sangria or wine so this could be a fun date spot or dinner with the gal pals! read more

My husband talked me into giving @labodegakc another try. It was fine, food needed salt and the meatballs were super hard (don't recommend). It was the same food and flavors I had 5 years ago, 10 years - nothing new or updated. The one thing I will go back for is the Lardo on toast - it was everything I wanted and more. From the authentic rich taste of the food to the kind timely service and beautiful ambiance options, La Bodega is absolutely a MUST EXPERIENCE gem in Kansas City. My date and I started off with the red & white wine special, and were quickly greeted by our own personal Paella Abanda. This Paella was seafood based and contained (calamari, bay scallop, white fish, Bomba rice, sofrito, peas, mussels, clams, shrimp) all for $13 per dish. You have to try, if you're nearby! read more
This is such a fun spot. We went here with a group of four, and that was the perfect number of people to share these plates. My favorites were probably the fall-apart-in-your-mouth braised short rib and the papas fritas with the amazing aioli. Service was also fantastic - warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. We started off our evening with a pitcher of red sangria (thank goodness we caught the last 10 minutes of happy hour!). Highly recommended. SO good. The only way it could be better? Fresh berries!! Nothing like fresh fruit in sangria. Next was the cheese, ham and sausages menu, served with baguette and pickled veggies. Super delish, but just a heads up: the LARDO IBÉRICO (dry-cured fatback from acorn-fed Iberico pigs) is not actually meat. Read the title again to see that it's actually just lard. It came spread on a few baguettes and while they were very tasty, we were caught off guard by that. (Note here - our server could have done a way better job helping us interpret a few of their menu items. Just saying.) The Papas Fritas Con Ajo - refried roasted potatoes with garlic, parsley and garlic-cumin aioli paired well with the Alcachofas con jamón y aioli - fried Spanish artichokes with crispy Serrano and Manchego fonduta (a fondue cheese sauce). We finished every last bit of those plates. They were so delicious. I'd highly recommend La Bodega!! Especially during happy hour! read more

Restaurant week stop-great menu and "bang" for your buck! Vibe is young hip and casual. For course 1, ensalada de escarola, (so delicious) course 2 was a sample plate and my favorite was the Datiles ( superb sweet & savory combination) course 3 Solomillo arsada con Manzanas-pork tenderloin with parsnip purée and sherry glazed apples ( a real show stopper! For course 4 ( YRS 4 courses!) a raspberry filled churro! ALL this for $35!!! You can't go wrong read more

My visits to La Bodega tend to vary every time, though typically the food is tasty and I'm left with a good feeling. My main takeaway is that I wish the prices were lower to match portion size. This time, we were seated in between two very close tables; I'm telling you, I was closer to the people on either side of me than I was to my partner across the table. This seemed unnecessary, as many tables were open throughout the restaurant. We asked to move, and they were accommodating. After that we had a a pretty good time. The drinks and food we shared were all very tasty (though the bread from our pan con tomate was burnt). We tried most of the vegetarian dishes, which were good but I thought overpriced for what you get. The drinks are hit or miss here, and luckily this time was a hit! read more
