I really wanted to like this spot. Very small and friendly staff. No complaints with the people. I went in specifically for the pre season (preparada) meat for carne asada. It was pricey and I attributed that to this being a small establishment. But.... when I brought the meat home and grilled it, the flavor was not there. It lacked alot of flavor to a point where I almost thought it was not seasoned at all. Really friendly and helpful staff members. The quality of the meat was pretty good too. I kept it in the refrigerator for almost 4-5 days raw and the carne asada was still good. The corn tortillas they get isn't that great compared to Northgate. But I'd come back for sure. read more

We came here to purchase taco meat for my sons birthday party and it was on point in their quality, taste and price for the portion/per pound. The meat wasn't too spicy either, so you can build it up with your cooking to your consumers preference. Everyone that ate the food from La Bodega all had nothing but good things to say; also compliments to our chef The market itself was also very appealing to all my OCD senses, as the store was completely stocked, clean and well versed in available items. I love coming here to also buy my limón y sal Fritos, because it's so hard to find them without the chile - as I am someone who doesn't handle spicy food well. I really liked their produce section - it was all very fresh and some came in bulk bags. They have a great and cold selection of Mexican beer too, our favorite kind of taste! UPDATE on RIA window to pay utilities with cash only! If you just got left behind by Edison, or as known as, SCE and you got a new account number and no one is on the other side to help you. Well, for $3.50 you can pay your Edison bill inside the deli/carniceria or what ever you want to call this little hole on the wall. The catch is, it is best you bring a copy of the bill as they will need to see the account number to pay them and the new account numbers start with 700's so heads up! ONLY CASH. Okay no problem go to the gas station and they have a atm machine. The RIA box or window with a lady inside is bilingual English and Spanish so do not be shy. On the money she will want $3.50 and the cash to pay your bill and it takes about three (3) business days to post. The RIA dot logo is outside and I used to use them in Santa Ana and now I am so glad I have one closer to my home. The window or the Ria box is located as you walk in to your right-hand side next to the cashier. The girls are super nice they explained to me that Edison just had a whole new system and it has been a rough transition. Well, I am just glad to see a person helping me like a human being and not this elevator long 1800 phone number phone call and just no real solutions. Okay back to the carniceria or at the deli BEST home-made chorizo in town! Best marinated carne-asada and fantastic fresh locally hand-made queso fresco. So ask the butcher for the fresh batch they have it in the fridge in the far end back. It is more of a convenience-store-stop so the produce is available but not the best prices. Just being honest but yes plenty of beer if you need some. Plenty of fresh fruit and they also offer Avas legumes among other common Latinox items. Now behind the counter is full of other oils and shampoos. Conclusion they offer a lot for the small location but it is tight and kept clean with no foul odors. Smells over all clean! Really busy intersection but located behind the gas station and next door to Johnny's saloon. Excellent meat deals! I can go on and on about this place! So yes! I went in on 05/02/2024 I went for 3 white onions and a candy, the sign says 1.50 cent for lb. But when the lady ring me up it was 7.00 dollars for 3 onions? This was my first time going here but it would probably be my last im all about supporting a small business but 7.00 dollars for 3 onions that is just inane obviously the price is not a big deal but I feel like the lady picks and chooses the prices. I was in the mood to cook my own Mex, but too lazy to drive to Santa Ana. The handy dandy Yelp app pointed me to La Bodega, on Beach & Slater in HB. Its in the same parking lot as one of my fave bars, previously reviewed Johnny's Saloon. I bought some carne asada ($7.99/lb), pollo asado ($2.79/lb) and shrimp ceviche ($6.99/lb). First of all, the carne asada was very good. It came in large pieces as it should, was marinated nicely, and cooked up great on the grill: 4 Stars. Secondarily, the chicken was tasty too. It too had a nice marinade, was super moist after grilling, and was a bargain: 4 Stars. Lastly, the ceviche was highly recommended, and flavorful also. It went very nicely on top of tortilla chips, and had a nice kick. It was so much better vs what you receive in an Americanized Mex restaurant: 4 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, its small, but packed w/ goodies. There is a table w/ samples as you walk in and a nice meat area to your left. Although the aisles are tight, its tidy in here. Additionally, there is a nice produce area w/ everything you need to compliment your taco feast. Lastly, they have taqueria size tortillas so you can pretend you operate your own taco stand: 4 Stars. Likewise, the staff is super friendly and helpful. They greeted me in Spanish, and appreciated that I spoke Spanish as well. Our conversations went from simple to more complex. The butchers and I appreciated a hawt customer (Disfrute la guerita: Enjoy the chick) - LOL!: 5 Stars. La Bodega is def on my list when I want some authentic Mexican meat to Q. Love this place! Best carne and pollo asada to grill at home! Fresh tortillas ( the ones on the counter at the cashier were still hot!) and some of the best roasted salsa verde and guacamole. Salsas are on the hot side. If you come on Saturday or Sunday you can even get carnitas ( already cooked). Just note if you are going for carnitas on the weekends they always sell out. So go in the morning. Great produce here too! Prices are right. Always friendly service when I've come in. read more

this little market is definitely a really good spot to go when you need to pick up your items super fast. The people that work at this location are definitely conscious of your time. They do not waste your time and go super slow like a lot of people at a lot of other markets that I have been to. I used to go to the farmers market downtown Los Angeles and it would take multiple hours just for me to get a few of the things that I went down there to purchase. The first time I went in here I walked out. There wasn't much to choose from and the meat was really expensive. I just went in the other day and was very impressed to find taller shelves with lots of clean faces products. The produce department looked amazing for a lil corner/neighborhood Bodega. The meat case was clean and full and all the meat was bright in color. I got some thick cut pork chops. They cut them thicker for me while I waited because the ones precut in the case were a bit thin for how I wanted to cook them. They were delish! Quick stop, good for a mid week grocery trip!! I shopped at this little neighborhood market for the first time. They have a really nice produce section. I don't know how other to say it other than the store smelled really bad because of the meat counter. A well-kept and clean meat department does not smell and I hope they can address this. It was not clean and sanitary and I had to cut my visit short, grab the necessities and leave. I really love to patronize local neighborhood businesses! I don't think I can go back to the store though. It's a shame. read more

Great little local Latino market without having to hike up to go all the way to Northgate. They have a small but varied fresh fruit, veg and peppers section. Also a little butcher and all the other groceries you need. Glad I found this shop! read more

This place has amazing fresh salsa you can buy. I love their green avocado salsa you can get from the fridge, and then buy corn tortilla from here too. It is the best brand I've had, so when my family and I make tacos, we'll drive here for the tortilla. The brand is called "Tortilleria la Rancherita". I give up on this place! Gave it too many chances, after dealing with rude customer service all the time. Today we bought meat from there, cooked the meat (which took forever to be cooked, not sure why) After it was finally ready it had a bad smell too it. No one in our family said anything until after we were done having dinner. The meat that was left smells even worse at this time, keep in mind that it's only been a couple of hrs since we bought this. At this point most of us are feeling sick, and will return what's left of the meat tomorrow morning. Never going back to this place, I'd rather make that drive..to get fresh and safe meat.
