This place is a neighborhood staple. They have been serving consistently good Mexican fare for 3 decades. The inside is clean and bright, always a good feel. Food is prepared quickly, and orders are always accurate. I've noticed recently that the portions have gotten smaller. I used to be able to split a burrito over 2 meals and discard extra tortilla. I eat the same amount but finish the entire burrito. Seems there is just less filling. Thought maybe it was a one off a few months ago, but this has happened 3 more times. Food was mid. The major problem was the very loud music. I politely asked the person at the counter if they could turn it down a bit, he gave me a sullen look, pretended to adjust the volume but kept it at the same level. I loved this place! It was just a short walk from my Airbnb, and there were so many other great restaurants nearby, but La Bonita truly stole the show. The food was absolutely delicious, and the portions were huge for the price -- especially the burrito! Honestly, for Portland, the prices were fantastic. The service was so warm and friendly, and the cute sitting area made it feel like a cozy little spot to enjoy a meal. My partner had the enchiladas, and they looked incredible -- I could tell by the way they cleaned their plate how amazing they were. I only wish I could go here every day. This is a casual place, so keep that in mind. Food is excellent, service is very friendly. The food can take some time (which I think is a positive, it means they are cooking to order). Flavors are great, and portions are big, so be hungry! My first time in Portland and I went straight from the airport to this restaurant after finding it on yelp. I loved the neighborhood which reminds me of some of the neighborhoods in the East Bay Ca. Street parking or neighborhoods parking all around. The inside is big with lots of tables. You order at the front and bring it back to your table. There is a salsa station near the front. water cups next to the soda machine. I got the salad and it was ok. Nothing amazing. I also tried the cheese tamale. It was ok. The tamale was bland. My son and I came in and ordered food to go on Sunday evening. It took 50 mins, which we were not expecting. They also got something in the order incorrect but we couldn't wait any longer. We asked about or order after about 45 minutes but the staff didn't explain, apologize or anything. In fact, we were told "your next", which was not the case. My brother treated mom & I to tacos because we all LOVE fish tacos. He's been coming here for years, I've been here a few times over the years when dining with others, but not a big fan. I must say the staff were very kind (customer service is EVERYTHING to me), but the food was just okay. But, sadly I can't and wound up with 2 stars on account of being so disappointed when I opened up our bag of to-go burritos to enjoy. I have been coming here for many years and it has gone downhill as of late. If you call in an order, be prepared for the order to be incorrect. I keep coming back because I remember how it used to be but I just received my fifth order that was completely incorrect I could not tell until I was already home. If that's not enough, they do not clearly label any of the burritos/food items so you have to open and deconstruct the burrito in order to find out which one is which, and then you also realize that the order is completely incorrect when doing so. This last time I went in I opened the order and saw that none of the burritos had been labeled, and when I asked which one was which the person behind the counter simply said well I didn't make them and I don't know. Every time I get food here, without fail, whether I order to go via phone or online order, or whether I eat at the restaurant, a part of my order is always wrong or missing. Always. The food is not great. definitely not worth the risk of your order being incorrect and certainly not worth waiting 40+ minutes for your food when dining in. This place is SO good. I'd been wanting to stop in here for several months and happened to be in the neighborhood and close by when we decided to look for a taco spot. It's a cute diner with tons of options on their menu. The have both fountain drinks and bottled drinks and they even have chips and guac! The chips were very good! We orders taco plates from the specials board that included beans, rice, and pickled veggies. Everything was cooked perfectly! So good and seasoned nicely! Even the beans and rice were good all on their own! You won't be disappointed here and you'll leave full! Reasonably priced with lots of choices. Great spot for some authentic Mexican food. Came to visit with my bf, while we were on a trip from SoCal and this is probably one of the best Mexican food places this city has. I was so excited for some Mexican food, I was home sick and missing my mom's delicious home cooked meals. I was tired of burgers and pizza, their food hit the spot. The portions were good too. This is now the SECOND time I have ordered a chicken burrito with extra chicken (FOR $18) and the burrito came with no chicken. I ordered through DoorDash and when I called the store, they told me there was nothing they could do. I had to request a refund through DoorDash. I get that DoorDash does not pay them enough - they don't pay them what we get charged - but then don't be on DoorDash. Your customer should not have to get the short end of the stick because you all have no consequences. That's really what this feels like it is because there's no real consequences (in fact I can't even post a negative review on DoorDash because it won't show it). It's really sad because La Bonita used to be a really lovely family owned restaurant that cared about quality and its customers. It is clear neither of those things are true anymore. I guess that's what happens though... and maybe you assume I can afford to get screwed over on an $18 burrito and pay for just cheese and rice and beans and a tortilla - with again, zero chicken - but I ordered through DoorDash because I'm disabled. I'm on a fixed income. It's 100° out today and I couldn't cook in my kitchen. Not only that, but it's also the second time I didn't get my drink and it's because the Dasher is supposed to ask for it. La Bonita seems to be doing everything they can to not have to fulfill the order and save money. They recognize they're gonna be able to sell that drink again that I didn't pick up in DoorDash is gonna have to pay me for it instead of them taking a loss on what they lose by allowing their food to be sold on DoorDash. Again, if you're unhappy with the deal with DoorDash, it is just so unfortunate that you pass it on to your customers. Just one more business that is willing to screw over consumers. read more

A Portland classic! Great Mexican food! A bit more healthy/less greasy than most taquerias, but with plenty of flavor. The interior is nicer than most Taquerias, but has a homie feel, without being fancy or pretentious. I live fairly close by and go there at least every few weeks. read more

Probably my least favorite Mexican joint in the area. It's not that their food is bad, there's just a lot of competition. The tacos are on the expensive side ($4) but they are quite huge and the meat is spilling out. I prefer smaller cheaper tacos myself tho. The suadero was a little bland, and the Al Pastor Taco was decent but nothing special. Since I'm a taco guy, I'd probly go next door to La Sirenita but still seems like a solid spot if all you want is like a California burrito or something. read more

I'll be back again to see if I can flip this review around. 1- Ordering process via phone: they cut you off mid description of what you'd like to order. Husband was trying to order chicken enchiladas w/cheese but ultimately that just confused them so he said ok two chicken enchiladas. (He was just trying to see if they could add cheese inside like some other places do. 2- Picking up: very easy 3- FOOD: thus is where I hope my mind changes the next go around. * chicken enchiladas: plenty of chicken - hardly any enchilada sauce making it dry but somewhat oily corn tortilla w/chicken stuffed inside. * chimichanga: our don had no complaints I think he liked it both times - cheese enchiladas: next to no sauce (see photos) it was like eating a lightly oiled corn tortilla with melted cheese in it. Not very good. What little sauce I did have in the corner was amazing. *guacamole: very good but the dude order of chips with guacamole they give you a tiny maybe 1/14th cup of guacamole. I've been in Portland just under a year now and still have yet to find tacos that truly satisfy my cravings. La Bonita is definitely up there not only in taste but value as well. It is simply unheard of to get a taco plate with both rice and beans and a soda for 12.99! Like seriously you'd be stupid to not think this was a deal! Huge portions! I loved the tortillas! I got one pastor and one asada, both were good but I think I would say pastor was my favorite! Liked the vibes inside, easy to park, service was fast.
