I've found their soups to be inconsistent and salads also hit-or-miss. If you're looking for soup/salad i would recommend the short drive to panera, but otherwise this is a cute spot. For some reason went there yesterday and got the Thai soup, it was more like Thai porridge. I got sick. My guess it was all the soup saved up from last week and I got the dregs. Just don't go. I have been going here for years to get pastries and coffee for breakfast. The last 2 visits the customer service has been horrible. I always support local Elk Grove first. I totally understand if you are understaffed during these times. I don't mind waiting at all for your awesome pastries and coffee. What I do mind is when a business, #1 - doesn't acknowledge your presence, not even with a simple hello and just leave you standing there waiting. #2 - treat you like you are an inconvenience for being there. The one star is just for the baguette. I went to this location today and wasn't pleased. My sister and I decided to grab something to eat after working out, so we decided to try this place out. It was my first time here and I wanted a little more time looking at the selections. The person taking our order was SO RUDE! There was no one behind us, so I did not understand what was the rush for. While waiting for our drinks, she kept yelling at us to quickly our things like she wanted us out asap. Also, I speak the same language as the ladies who work there and the things that they were saying to each other were very unprofessional. I would NEVER come back here ever again. read more

Their veggie and cheese sandwich is so good. Yumm. This place is big, open and clean. It is a casual sit down with a book or coffee kind of place. They have a small outside patio area too where folks can sit down and enjoy the atomsphere. The customer service is not very good though. There is this young lady behind the counter who looks like she is scared of you when you order from her. I don't like it when cashiers don't crack a smile or say thank you. The sandwiches are smaller compared to Panera. You have to pay extra if you want a salad too. They will do half sandwich/half salad if you want salad with your sandwich which I never do. I think it is pricey for the amount of food you get. The service was okay, and I liked that they provided wifi. However, the menu and pricing is, in my opinion, sub par compared to similar offerings. I ordered a ceasar salad and soup combination. What I received was a very generic salad consisting of greens that could have been poured out of a bag, a little bit of cheese sprinkled on top, some croutons (again very generic), and some dressing. The salad was pretty small. I suspect the soup was straight out of a can, and I only got about a cup of soup. I paid just under $9 for this. If I had gone to a Panera Bread, I would have paid less money for bigger servings of food that were prepared in house. It also would have tasted much better. I'll probably come back to try some other items on their menu, because I hear they have good sandwhiches. But, this is my initial impression. read more

I stopped in for breakfast because I was working nearby. I had the egg, tomato, basil, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a croissant which sounded​ very tasty but asked them to add sausage to it. Sadly, they were out of sausage so I had them add ham instead. It was very good. With my drink I paid almost $11. I am a huge fan of this spot. It may not be the busiest or brightest LaBou location in Sacramento, but it is huge, the staff is always smiley and happy to answer questions, double check orders, and modify menu items upon request. Since moving out of the area, I make it a point to stop in almost every time I visit. Breakfast is always delicious. Whether you go for a classic, fruit, chocolate, or warm, cheesy, protein-filled croissant, it is always on point. They are huge and super flaky without falling apart all over the place and losing half of the pastry. The filling always seems homemade. No overly processed deli meat, and the fruit preserves don't have that weird almost-sour store bought jam taste/consistency. The ham and cheese and the apricot are my faves. I have NEVER found a lunch option that I haven't fallen in love with either. The soups and sandwiches have never failed to impress. I have never been disappointed by a salad here. Ingredients are fresh and tasty. The cesar is delish. However, without a doubt, the thing that keeps me coming back every time I am in town is the very simple baguette with dill sauce. Best, most decadent snack ever. Trust me. The only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is because the drinks don't live up to the food. It's really standard coffee and fountain drinks. I stopped going to Panera and started coming here at the beginning of the year. I always get the same thing every week. A 1/2 salad and tomato Bisque soup. The last month of coming they have been out of tomato bisque soup. I asked the manager and she said she doesn't control the shipment to try again next week. I feel like people are inconsiderate of others feelings. I work as a nurse so taking time to come all the way here consistently every week plus the amount of money I spend at this location. As I got something else from the menu once again I didn't even get no fork, napkins, or spoon for my food and food was just thrown in bag. I'm so sad I love la bou very disappointing. read more

This place is gross! It was filthy inside. The food was gross, my salad was drenched in dressing and some of the lettuce was starting to Brown, the chicken was small, Stone Cold and wasn't even cut properly. my daughter sandwich has so much mayonnaise on it that she had to scrape it off. My other daughter who eats everything would not even touch the sandwich. when my youngest daughter needs to use the restroom, we found human feces smeared on the toilet paper roll. Their food is good, I'll give them that. And I know that they're owned by different owners, I've never been to a location that's so stingy with their dressing! The amount they give you doesn't even cover a small salad and the salad leaves are basically just butter lettuce taken off the head, they don't chop it at all. At least give the larger side of dressing for your salad, instead of charging for two small ones. Ridiculous. Would rather travel out of my way for the location in a little bit further. read more

Went in today first time ever since I left that place and literally nothing has changed (has nothing to do with Covid) the same horrible attitude from the manager Tina. This place has so much potential but the attitudes are horrible. It makes me give up completely on this place. I love the Chinese chicken salad and bread with dill but it is not worth it coming into a place with horrible moral . I am seeing the customers and looks on the workers faces it is sad. Haven't been here in years, what the hell happened?! This place has gone to hell. The cleanliness all around from where the food is prepared, counter tops and table tops are filthy. This place had 7 customers and was not busy by any means so I don't understand not cleaning anything up. My wife decided to throw her food away after we left and both comented on seeing the food preparer making her sandwich with gloves on and handeling various things not far from our view such as dirty dishes and products near the sink. We both observed her coughing into her gloved hands too! Are those gloves for her protection or ours, lol! Anyways, my wife looked them up on a county website and found numerous violations for which this La Bou received citations and fines for. Had coffee and something to eat this morning at 10:00. No fruit or ham and cheese croissants available. The muffins available were only three. sitting there. I chose banana. It was hard and dry. Put it in microwave hoping to ressurect it. Now it was hot, crumbly and dry. And for the coffee I got a 19 cent discount for being a senior. Go to McDonald's, dear Seniors. Coffee is only 69 cents for us, and food is fresh. Those muffins should have been in a half-price table. read more

Oh La Bou what has happened to you?!?! Your menu and baked goods have become bland and uninspiring. I think Magpie may be giving you a run for your money on baked goods. You are stuck in the 1990s and need some serious updating from your menu to your decor. Now to the taste test. I ordered a nonfat cappucino and the hubby ordered two shots of espresso. Both tasted burnt. I had to throw mines away after two sips and gasp...go to Starbucks to get my coffee fix. Not bad & the price is def right. A sandwich with a large iced tea for $8.75, whereas other places would charge $11-12 for the same quality really. Ordered Chinese chicken salad with peanuts on the side because my co worker is allergic, we were going to share the salad. My salad had peanuts on top, so I called them & told them I'll be back in a few days because I didn't live in that area and definitely didn't want to go back that day because my lunch was almost over. I told my co worked what they said which is remake it for her. The manager took my name and phone number down & said they'll have it for me when I come back. Sadly when i called they were a bit confused who I was then later said oh yeah you had a missing Thai soup right? I said no.. my salad had nuts in it. They were like oh yeah we remember you come by we will have it ready. I said cool Lunch is at 12 so I'll be there then. Sadly when I went back they didn't know who I was again and my order wasn't ready. So I had to re explain the situation again. I waited a few minutes for them to make it again. Consistency is what I like most about this place. Their food has been continually awesome for decades. (Yikes I am old!) I totally dig the chocolate croissant. Have you tried it? Have you ever had a better one? I didn't think so. And I dare you to try the sliced baguette and dill sauce and not fall in love. And eat almost a whole baguette. By yourself. In one sitting. My mom used to take me here when I was little, and then I would go before high school (back in the 90s) to get my breakfast. And the food tastes the exact same as it did back then! La Bou is my regular place for lunch on my days off. They have great salads and sandwiches. The food is of high quality with fresh ingredients and the prices are fair. The service is self serve for utensils and seating, but its very casual and very comfortable. La Bou is great to just sit at a table and read the newspaper with a good cup of coffee. They have a variety of pastries and desserts. It is just a wonderful neighborhood cafe that I will continue to regularly be a customer. read more

I usually come here when I have to drop my girl off at the ElK Grove Rec center for her toddler class. It's a short class so not enough time for me to drive home and come back. My 14 month old boy and I share the raisin custard croissant. He's fights me for it so next time I'm going to have to get two. It goes great with hot tea. For lunch, the Thai coconut soup is great, just the right amount of spice. I usually get the smoke turkey avocado with bacon on croissant. My friend talked up La Bou for at least 5 years before I finally was nearby to try one. So, my expectations may have been a little too high upon entering. We both got a half sandwich and half salad. The sandwich literally had a thin piece of meat and one slice of cheese. We were like, did they forget the fillings to this sandwich? The salad was tasty, but not much to it and had maybe 3 little pieces of chicken in it. The dill sauce was good, I would return for that with the sliced bread the meals come with. The service wasn't great, they were close to closing so they kind of suggested that we take our food to go. I understand that, but there was a large party still no where near finishing so we surely could've finished before them. Popped off 99 to get lunch and saw La Bou here and decided to "eat healthy" and get the soup and salad. I tend to order the same thing everytime...the spicy Thai chicken soup and house salad with dill dressing. Never fails to disappoint. I really like the butter leaf lettuce and avocado/cheese on the house salad, especially with the dill dressing. The soup is super spicy, so unless you like it hot, fuggetaboutit. To quench the fire I even was able to get my Arnold Palmer, which is my standard lunchtime drink that goes with everything. It was approx $10, so not that bad of a deal. read more

On April 6, once again, I ordered from La Bou via Grub Hub. Grub Hub was great. The problem was with La Bou. It first said my order would only take about 25 minutes. I did receive update, but it changed the time to be another 25 minutes. It took almost an hour for La Bou to get my order to me! I tracked the drive and from the time she picked it up and delivered to me, it was less than 10 minutes. If I didn't love La Bou so much, I would not order from them again. read more

What I love is their bread! It makes the sandwich so much better!!! I had the turkey sandwich and it was ok I would rate the sandwich similar to subway but the bread makes la bou five times better. I had a sandwich and a snapple and my grand total was 9.60 a bit steep. The place seems clean and decent and there's plenty of seating to enjoy your food including outside seating. We arrived at LaBou in a weekday morning. The selection of pastries and stuff was kind of sad. The coffee was good and the refills were free. Their bathrooms seemed old and passively clean. They were playing Christmas music (it's March!) which was nice after a few songs, but they left it on for the duration of our stay- ambience isn't so great in there. If you need a grab and go, seems like this place is ok, but to stay and sit awhile- other coffee houses have a better vibe. I'd go back knowing what to expect , but my first impression was just okay. Came here looking for a cafe to study in and eat while I worked. The WiFi was down, and not a lot of outlets. The food was fine--I got the combo with pasta salad and their Thai chicken soup. The soup was nice and tasty, but the pasta was a bit bland. It was a decent amount of food though. This used to be our favorite weekend spot, but it took a year for them to fix their bathroom, and their pastry window inventory diminished dramatically over this period. When I asked what was happening, I was simply told the owner was cutting back on wastage. We moved out of town after a while, but when in town I would still give them a try to see if they were making improvements. Mostly recently, I was getting my dog groomed and decided to hang out here as I waited. My veggie & cheese sandwich on croissant and chocolate croissant, with mango ice tea tasted fine. But, the next morning I woke up with stomach cramps that lingered throughout the day. Initially, I thought I'd contracted the flu, but my symptoms improved over the following day, so it was clear it had to be something I'd eaten here. Overall: 1 I came here on a Monday because my supervisor raved about how good their food was. I looked at their menu and it seemed a little limited. I decided I would get their Turkey Sandwich and Cesar salad. I paid extra for the added chicken. I returned back to my office to have my sandwich and felt like the sandwich was scarce. Very minimal mustard, one tomato, one strand of lettuce. I figured this was what they were known for so I dealt with it. I then proceeded to have my salad. The cesar dressing tasted like fish.. which was not delightful. I am not sure if it was because of the dressing "lemony dressing" or if I had just got a bad batch of dressing. However, I could not continue eating the salad because of the taste of the dressing. Therefore, I was pretty disappointed with this place but would recommend it to those are interested in trying this place. This La Bou location needs a new owner or it needs to close. Here is the humongous list of issues: Their credit card reader is always down. Always. The iced tea tastes like cleaner. The complimentary water tastes awful. How do you mess up water? The store runs out of food items very early in the day. The salad dressings are watered down. The displays are dirty. When I ate here I often ended up having diarrhea later in the day. The only good spot is that the staff are friendly. Go to other La Bou locations instead. The Land Park store is a gem! read more

7/19/2017: This morning went to LaBou, the place looks like a cafeteria, but the atmosphere is friendly. Deanna Jaxine Stinson had an iced mocha, delicious, I had a regular black coffee. The cashier was very nice and pleasant. An old man came up to us like he knew us and showed us his family pictures and talked about his time in the Air Force. I don't go here much, as I don't eat a lot of pastries.... Not sure if I'll go back... I ordered a "breakfast burrito".... Decent enough food, but wrapped in a very small tortilla so it was more like a taco. It didn't hold the food in. Also the bacon wasn't chopped up, so when you took a bite, the whole bacon strip tried to go with you... It's too bad... This location has potential, but noticed their display cases seem dirty.... Look at the sides of the case... One side has a bunch of pencils and straws stuck between the glass case and the counter.... Probably won't come back unless I hear of improvements.... read more
