Love this place. Thai soup is my favorite. I love the assortment of different things on the menu and how fresh everything is.

La Bou will always be one of our favorite go to spots for the Chinese chicken salad! Great size portions and love the dressing.

La Bou has been around the Sacramento area forever. I remember going to the one across from UCDMC over 10 years ago. This past weekend, we ate lunch at the EG branch and it's just as good as I remember. I gave them 5 stars because they are CONSISTENTLY GOOD. Their French bread is soft & fresh, their soups hot & delicious, their salads crispy & topped with savory dressings. Oh, did I mention how freakin' good their bread is? This is a biased review by a known carbo-phile. I love their sandwiches on croissant (and I don't want to hear the nutrition facts either). They are soft and buttery. We got the turkey sandwiches. Yum! And the tomato bisque is just perfect. Full of fresh tomato flavor and the right amount of cream. Tastes like home-made. I should know because I do make my own creamy tomato soup! It is a bit pricey at around $7-$10 head, more if you get dessert & a fancy drink. I like that they allow dogs in the outdoor seating area. Oh, and they're not authentic French, but more like fusion food. That's a good thing for some folks - the baguette crust is soft so it won't damage the roof of your mouth. read more

I can eat their baguette and dill any time of the day... The most nondescript La Bou I've ever been too. I don't frequent this spot often, but the name in itself means that I know I will get their consistent good food, with a hint of nostalgia. Only us Nor Cal kids know what goodness is La Bou, I'm okay with that - fresh, quick, and decently priced - you can't ask for much more than that! Saturday mornings here are busy, but not enough to go somewhere else. Ample seating, a coffee bar in the middle, and all the breakfast goodies all the other locations have. Very poor customer service! Didn't acknowledge me, and I was the only customer! Finally took my order and did not make any eye contact. Started to ignore my three item sandwich and make something different. When my food was ready they put it were I could see it, on the opposite end of the building. She proceeded to help the elderly man that walked in and ignore me. After helping the man, she said - ,"oh, yours is down there." I'll drive to the Land Park , but never here again! The bread was the only good part. Sandwich hardly had any meat or onions. I ordered oatmeal which had NO flavor and I really wonder if caramel is actually added in. What was cool is that during covid you can walk in and order and they did offer a cool deal on their cookies (which also tasted nice). I officially give up. To say I am a patient person is an understatement. Being a local, I have been coming here since I was a kid. I have survived the change over when it was La Brew, then when it went back to the franchise, to the last take over and now the attempt to employ more english speaking workers. That being said. My go-to here has been the La Bou Salad. Basically... it is their house salad. the one with lemongrass dressing. the dressing their sister restaurant (Lemongrass in Sacto) was famous for. In the last 3 years, I would say it is a crap shoot whether or not I will get this salad the way it is meant. Butter lettuce with shredded red cabbage, tomatoes, cucumber, sliced chicken breast on top. lemon grass dressing. Then one day, it started coming occasionally with dill dressing, but romaine lettuce... because of the frost, there was a butter lettuce shortage. OK. sure, but all the other franchises were selling it with BL, so... stop cheaping us out. OK, then we went back to butter lettuce, but dill dressing again. I could ask for lemongrass, and still get dill. Then the recent change over in employees might be my favorite. It came with all of the above... plus guacamole and shredded cheese. WTF. It is your house salad. Should be the first thing you learn to make. **oh... and ranch. Today, not Lemongrass. I hate to say, I opened the box there and checked, and it was not white, so I thought I was good to go. When I got it home and opened it, it was some herby basalmic. Damnit. So I digress. La Bou... I have patiently persisted for the last three years. I know I am a nice customer. I always smile, I always tip. I clean up at my table. I know *shit* happens. But seriously. One salad. For $9, I expect better when I open a box of lettuce. Specifically, the G.D. dressing that belongs on your store named salad. I'll just got to Hokee Poke across the way now. read more

My family is a big fan of La Bou. I like this location because it is close to where I live and it is very large and spacious. Of course perfect place for all the elderly which is the usual clientele of La Bou. My favorite thing is the tomato bisque soup! It is the best thing on the menu! The sandwiches are mediocre and okay. Not terrible but not memorable. Nice place to come with the family for coffee and pastries. Coffee here is fine. read more

I come back here once in a while because my nephew and niece like this place. But every time I've gone, something is always missing from the order. Not a big deal until this time when 5 items were missing. I give up. The food is just plain average. Wish they'd stop messing up orders. Oh, they also insisted that we didn't pre-pay for my takeout order, which we did. When they gave us the order, the seal on the bag was broken, it was rifled through, dressing cups opened and spilling through the bag. They said there was a mix up -- likely they gave it to someone else and that person came back to return it after unpacking it all. And they still gave it to us. The thought didn't occur to me until later that this is probably what happened and why the bag was a mess/broken seal and items were missing. read more

I used to love coming here for the ham and cheese croissant. They have cut so many corners they no longer resemble a croissant. First they put a cheaper cheese in them. Then a cheaper ham. I was okay with that because it's still resembled a croissant on the outside. Now, I don't know when but they started using a different dough that is definitely not a croissant pastry. It's shaped like a croissant. Doesn't taste like a croissant. The almond croissant also went downhill when they changed the Almond filling. Obviously an attempt to cut corners again. The one star is for the decent salads and ice tea. If you are looking for consistency in coffee drinks this is not the place. Everytime I get a mocha it's different. read more

Ordered online thinking to make things easier and was sorely mistaken. Upon arrival food took 30 mins to be ready. 15 mins into waiting was told they don't have the bread, asked for substitution bread and when the food did finally come, it was all incorrect. People from my office have already stopped going here for this reason and now i will too. Check your food and unwrap the sandwiches first to make sure they are right. Went there last week, twice. Results: Horrible and Terrible. First time waited and waited and waited, as the ONLY person in line while the person behind the counter kept their back to me, never turned even after calling out to them. Got frustrated and left. Second time returned 2 days later. Did get order taken, thinking this is a huge improvement. But that feeling was short lived after I got my order: a simple already made apricot croissant and coffee. BAD. Croissant was old. I noticed an orange gummy drop of apricot something on the outside of the croissant, then bit into it and spit it out. Inside was stale, with thinly spread, dried up apricot preserve spread across it. I left it and left the place. Maybe I'll come back when new owners take over. read more

Amazing restaurant. I am so glad I got to come across this gem. I cannot remember who had helped me out, but I think it may have been the owner's daughter..? Ugh. I forgot. I should have written this review when I had the chance. Anyways, she was amazing! Super sweet and patient with my boyfriend and I. We wanted to sample practically everything. She did not mind one bit and that truly meant a lot to me. I know that I am very specific with everything and my peoples hate that. Especially when we go out to eat! My order was incorrect so I went back and asked a different woman if she can switch my cheese (since it was not the one I asked for). She did so with an attitude which was kind of lame. And when she brought back the new sandwich and soup, there was not any bread on the side. So I ate and then after we finished we wanted to buy some cookies. Our girl helped us out again and asked how was our food. I told her we enjoyed it, but I did not get my bread and I was bummed about it. She then gave me some! She was too sweet! I was so happy! I've been coming to this La Bou regularly for four or five years now - and by regularly I mean there are some weeks when I'm in there five times or twice in one day! I love their iced tea, they have fabulous baked goods (almond croissant is the current fav, but I love bagels too), tomato bisque and butternut squash soups are really tasty and just the right amount. Every other coffee shop in Elk Grove has seating that's what I think of as "airplane configuration" so I've appreciated that the room is open and you don't bump the chair behind you getting in and out . . . or I used to. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the new owner! What used to be a well-lit, airy bakery atmosphere now screams neglected dirty kitsch (tacky Christmas decoration still left up, and a table with paper Thanksgiving table cloth with live plants collecting dust, bugs and dead leaves - yuck) The new room being constructed has chopped up the sitting area into densely packed tables and chairs. I haven't noticed the quality of food declining as much as other reviewers but that may be because I'm mostly in there for the tea. The old staff had my drink ready before I even got the counter (miss them!) and while I've been able to connect with one of the new gals, I'm getting really frustrated that for almost a month now they have been out of English breakfast (petty, I know, but come on that's an ordering issue that takes 2 seconds to fix!) This could still be a great bakery and coffee place but the new owner has had over six months to get it together and it's pretty much getting worse, which is really sad, this used to be a relaxing place to come alone or with friends. Now it's just disappointing and stressful. I think I'm going to be getting my La Bou fix at the one by the zoo from now on. read more

Although this isn't one of my favorite La Bou locations, I'm still grateful that we have one in Elk Grove! I've loved their Chinese Chicken Salad since I was a little girl and have discovered their dill sauce to be quite the palette pleaser. Their sandwiches are nothing extraordinary but I appreciate that everything is always fresh. I know I'll never be blown away but I also know I'll never be utterly disappointed. Another favorite are their cinnamon nut croissants! Specifically to this location, the reason for the 2 stars is that they don't do anything to stand out from the rest. The one on Howe discounts their pastries after 4, the one on Mather Field has specialty sandwiches and the one on Olsen serves the Banh Mi, which isn't authentic but still very tasty. The one on Folsom always offers Groupons and the one on Power Inn hires "special" employees, which is so heart warming. This location is spacious, it's close to work and my order is always ready when I arrive so I often find myself here during lunch breaks. I prefer them over Panera, even though Panera is closer, because I like their bread and sandwich combinations more! And of course, because of all the other perks I've mentioned already! I love this place but some of the staff doesn't speak English too well so there are times when communication is an issue. The prices are a bit high, therefore I do not go here too often, maybe about once a month to indulge in my croissant sandwich and chinese chicken salad combo and a Delicious cookie( or two). This comes up to about 10 bucks. I usually don;t eat when I'm sick but my husband bought me a baguette bread with the chinese chicken salad dressing and now when I am sick, that is all I eat for days!!! wait... did i mention the cookies??? I just not impressed by this location. They are fast but it definitely shows in the quality of the food. I presented a "breakfast burrito" and it was such a mess I couldn't even finish it because it fell apart. It was a tiny tortilla with cheese, bacon, and a crap load of eggs. There was some mystery juice dropping out which made the tortilla so soggy it fell apart. (See photos) I say mystery juice because there was no salsa or hot sauce on it, so I have no idea where all of that liquid came from. I've eaten here on a few occasions - mostly to go or outside dining. Maybe that's why I hadn't notice what a dump this location is! While waiting in line, reading off the menu board, which was falling apart - I decided to use the restroom before ordering (since I had to wait any way). The door to the ladies restroom was so nasty! I didn't even want to open it. I don't think they have ever even wiped down the door, ever. It was grimy. Gross. The bathroom was in disarray - and old. Not in a good old way but in an uncared for manner. It was so much so that I decided to leave then and there. If you are charging $7-$9 for a sandwich, I think you can afford to keep the restroom and menu boards from falling apart. read more

It is under new ownership and the new owner is horrible! The new owner is truly clueless and cares about your money rather than service. The prices are already high, but the new owner likes to short and skim orders. She even changed the soup bowls to be much smaller for larges, but the price is still the highest in town. I am a good customer and this was a frequent visit for my lunches! But I could never return and I will never recommend this spot to anyone. ZERO STARS!!!! This La Bou is the WORST La Bou I have ever been to! The quality of their food is not the same as the other La Bou's. Everything seems older like they received leftover shipments or something. In fact I stopped going there after my to-go salad came with EXPIRED LETTUCE! I was so pissed when I got back to my office and saw the the lettuce in my salad was wilting & brown! Oh and on top of that the top piece of lettuce (the most visible) was almost all brown and had holes in it like bugs bit through it! Do they not inspect the food that goes out or do they just not care?? I even called them TWICE and left a message for the store owner (since the girl on the phone claims they don't have a manager) and never received a call back. My experience today was very unpleasant. I was in line ready to place my order after deciding on which dry pastry was I gonna have. I observed the store manager greeting people ahead of me and telling them to have a wonderful day. When it became my turn I was not greeted, she just stood there and waited for me to say hello. So I did. I placed my order hearing not a thank you, come again or even have a nice day. I just took it as maybe she's tired now. Used to frequent this La Bou every other day for their mediterranean sandwich (forgot the name), and the Chinese Chicken Salad. Drool! It's the closest to my aunt's creation that I can have any time. Ordered a turkey sandwich and the salad. Good stuff! Really can't have a good enough reason why I stopped going to La Bou. This location is the closest, and so far, the service is comparable to other locations. This one is quite large and had a cozy patio for outdoor dining. They serve mocha freezes. Baguette & dill sauce. Need I say more?! Typical cafe. Can get pretty crowded in the mornings with commuters and high schoolers. The warm croissants are delicious, as are the sandwiches. I've found their soups to be inconsistent and salads also hit-or-miss. If you're looking for soup/salad i would recommend the short drive to panera, but otherwise this is a cute spot.
