Here's yet another fine recommendation by way of the Franco-loving YouTube vloggers, Les Frenchies. Antoine, the cherubic male half, even went as far as saying this had become his favorite restaurant in Paris citing the steak au poivre as exceptional. That was enough for me to make a reservation for Jamie W and myself here. Located near the Palais Royal, it's just a few doors from the more renowned Le Grand Colbert (review: https://yelp.to/15heNTP4Ir). We were not disappointed. It's an intimate place though there was a back dining room we never saw. We were seated comfortably next to the side wall opposite the manager station. We started with celebratory cocktails: Jamie with a 14€ Kir while I splurged on a 24€ Kir Royale (Photo 7). Both featured creme de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur) with the difference being white wine in Jamie's and champagne in mine, an effervescent start to our meal. We both decided to order the 67€ Diner à la Bourse. It was a set combination of an appetizer and an entree. While we chose our respective entrees, we were pleasantly surprised to discover we received servings of all four signature hors d'oeuvres. The Gillardeaux Oysters with a subtle curry vinaigrette were delightfully slurpy (Photo 11), while the Beetroot Salad had a nice sweetness dressed in a raspberry vinaigrette (Photo 17).. The Eggs Mayonnaise were tasty with dollops of crabmeat on top (Photo 13), and the Leeks surprisingly satisfied with a hazelnut vinaigrette that added a depth of flavor (Photo 16). For his entree, Jamie thoughtfully chose the Mixed Garden Vegetables with Mushrooms (Photo 8). Nicely sauteed, the veggies offered fresh flavors with no guilt. I decided to follow Antoine's lead and ordered the French-style Hanger Steak with Pepper (Poivre) Sauce and Fries (Photo 5). The meat was buttery tender and the sauce quite luxuriant. The fries were more standard grade but they worked (Photo 10). Of course our meal wouldn't be complete without dessert. Jamie ordered the luscious 9€ Chocolate Mousse. It was a decadent treat with chocolate chips and shavings (Photo 4). I went with their daily special, the 9€ Figs Poached in Red Wine and Topped with Yogurt Sorbet (Photo 9). It was a resplendent way to conclude a memorable meal. An elegant restaurant with intimate setting. The place specializes in Steak Frites and Steak Tartare so we got one of each. The Steak Frites was delicious with the peppery au povire sauce, paried amazingly with their generous serving of crispy fries. The Tartare was fresh and well-prepared as well but we didn't enjoy it as much, mainly because we're not used to the French style of tartare. Highly recommend the Leek appetizer as well. Run don't walk!! This beautiful little restaurant falls into my top restaurants of all time. As we walked into the restaurant we were greeted warmly by the gentleman in the front of house. The restaurant is small and warm, with great music and a glorious ambiance. I was faced so that I was able to people watch. The menu is generally prix fixe with a quad of appetizers plus the entree of your choice. They have a glorious selection of bottles of wine, and a number of other alcohols, juices etc to drink. The appetizers came out, which included oysters with curry vinegar, leeks in a vinaigrette, eggs with crab meat and mayo, and smoked trout. Everything was so pure and the best form of itself. The leeks were sweet and tangy, the oysters fresh, and everything else also incredible. I got the onglet au poivre and my daughter got the vegetable medley for entrees. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare. The sauce was unctuous and not too salty. The vegetables were so clean and perfectly cooked. I implore for you to get dessert. The crème brûlée was a masterpiece and the thyme sorbet with chocolate was I'm serious, the best dessert I have ever had and I would go back for that alone. Also, get the dessert wine that is one the counter. It is sent from heaven. When you make a reservation they require a deposit, but I promise you won't be disappointed. It is the finest steak frites in the entirety of Paris and one of the best meals I have experienced. Very interesting menu concept which scared me at first-4 appetizers?! But everything was delicious and unique. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy, my favorite. And the service was warm and friendly. The appetizers were leeks, a cheese dip with fresh dill (favorite), an oyster, a hard boiled egg with crab (phenomenal). Easily our best lunch in Paris. Service was friendly, English was readily spoken, tables were not too close together, and the food... Oh, the food. We started with classic vinaigrette, then moved onto raw oysters with green curry mignonette. We had the monkfish special, which was served with a green pea sabayon and the best steak frites of our lives. We finished with amazing chocolate mousse, and crème caramel. We loved our dinner at La Bourse Et La Vie. The 4 appetizers were so unique and absolutely delicious - we love oysters, these were prepared unlike anything we have ever had before. The Foie Gras - heavenly. The bread is fabulous - a dark light sourdough with salted butter. My husband and I shared the starters and chicken - the crispy chicken skin touched with a light citrus. OMG. Our boys had the steak frites with the most outrageously wonderful bowl of the best skinny crispy lightly salted french fries you will ever have. Alice greeted us warmly upon arrival and guided us through the menu and ensured we had the most special dinner to celebrate my Husband's birthday! There were two lovely gentlemen who also looked after us the entire evening - one had worked for Daniel Rose at Le Coucou for many years and the night we dined at La Bourse Et La Vie, it was his first night night there! Everyone was so kind and gracious. The atmosphere is lovely and intimate. We enjoyed the most leisurely, decadent dinner. Thrilled we were able to experience and can't wait to return! I'm a fan of Le Coucou in NYC and this spot is run by the same chef, Daniel Rose. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch and had an amazing meal of steak frites, green salad and thyme sorbet. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. Starting with Alice, the sweetest, friendliest server followed by every course. My courses were the leeks (poireaux vinaigrette), steak (faux-filet), and chocolate mouse. Another shout out was the wine poached figs (figues pochees au vin). Chef Daniel Rose's second Paris restaurant is a great bistro in the heart of the city. The vibe has a contemporary twist to the classic and is super cozy.(less than 20 people capacity). We were greeted by very friendly staff - don't forget to order some wine by the glass. We had some superb French bistro dishes from the relatively small menu: the steak frites with a peppercorn sauce was to die for. The slow braised chicken was yet another classic but was executed perfectly with seasonal vegetables. Things in Paris keep getting better and better. We went to this charming little restaurant with friends who dined here last year. It turns out that La Bourse et la Vie is associated with the highly regarded Stephen Starr restaurant Le Coucou in Manhattan. There was only one waiter taking care of the 6 tables in the front dining room. He was charming. Wine by the glass was excellent. My buddy kept waxing poetic about the Pinot noir champagne that he was drinking. We had the assorted appetizers that consisted of leeks in a vinaigrette sauce, melon with smoked fish and crostini. We got the chicken for two and it was possibly the best chicken that I have ever eaten in my life. It was a deboned half chicken that managed to be crisp and juicy at the same time. We had the best frites of our trip. We shared excellent chocolate mousse and a mixed berry clafoutis for dessert. We were comped some thyme flavored sorbet that was very thought provoking. This was our best meal in Paris so far. I will prioritize eating here again when we return. read more

We came to this highly recommended spot expecting a French bistro lunch. We were surprised to learn that Daniel Rose is in New York and loaned his restaurant to Ukrainians until June 2022. This was a wonderful surprise. There is a prix fixe menu of Ukrainian dishes. We started with pumpernickel bread with Creme fraiche and caviar plus slices of pike. There was also a selection of pickled vegetables. Next was pork and potato dumplings with a sautéed onion sauce. Then, cherry dumplings with sour cream. The main dish was a wonderful beef borscht. My husband said he has had borscht many times, but never as wonderful as this dish. Dessert was three small pieces of Ukrainian cakes. DH loved the Kyiv cake which was made with cashew nut paste. Due to my egg and dairy allergies, I just watched him devour the cakes. Finally we had very generous servings of strawberries and cream (and plain dairy-free strawberries for me). Please visit spring of 2022 to support Ukraine. Most tables added a separate donation for our Ukrainian hosts before leaving. read more

The steak was good as were the appetizers. But the wine. I asked about wine by the glass. Twice. With two different servers. Clearly they thought I didn't see the listing on the mirror for glasses of wine. And I was upsold a bottle. Actually fine, I can do that and would have ended up ordering more than one or two glasses anyway. And I wanted to see how a solo female tourist was handled. Not good. Very interesting. And of course the tip or service is included and clearly stated on the menu, but when I was given the bill to tap, I was shown the options for a tip and told "up to you". I've been to Paris a few times but never to this restaurant. I did leave extra and hope it's shared with the kitchen staff because the food was good and my steak was good as I like it. I would have left some Euros on the table for that. Will I go back? No. Because of the whole wine and tip thing. If you go, check the mirror even if they lead you to believe there isn't wine by the glass, and know that the tip or service is already included. The ambiance is very cozy as it's about the size of a very small coffee shop, maybe a dozen or so seats tightly packed. The setup is elegant yet casual. We came for lunch and the service was superb. Again, the interaction was at once casual yet upscale. The food options were minimalistic with steak frites with peppercorn sauce or a poached hake white fish. The chef did offer a vegetarian option upon request, which was kind, but our pescatarian family member chose the fish while the other three of us got the hanger steak frites. La Bourse et la Vie has been on my list of must try Paris restaurants. This Daniel Rose restaurant has a reputation for serving classic French bistro dishes. Making reservations online is not necessarily a must but since this is a tiny restaurant it can't hurt. Since our reservation was for noon, we were allowed to select our seat. Those who came later were not so lucky and ended up in a back room. We ordered the following: Polupe (3/4) this dish was disappointing for many reasons. At 16€ the teeny piece of grilled octopus was barely 4small bites. The octopus was swimming in a cold tomato sauce with two very hard croutons and way too many garbanzo beans. PASS! Steak frite (5/5) my husband loved this dish! It is a comprehensive meal of butter lettuce salad, steak with au poivre sauce, frites, dessert, and cafe. Definitely the best item on the menu! The steak cooked perfectly, salad was delicious and the chocolate coffee dessert, spectacular! Pot au feu (3/5) I really wanted to like this dish. I can see why people don't like this dish. It misses the mark and is a bit of a let down. The crispy veal is definitely NOT crispy. It's fatty and soft but most certainly not crispy. The broth is clear, light, and loaded with fresh vegetables (radishes, carrots, celery, tomato) a small bone marrow, and tender veal. They give salt (for seasoning) and Dijon mustard on the side. I suppose if you wanted something really light and soupy, this dish would fit the bill. But for me I just wanted something more. Service is superb. There were only two servers and they took great care of us. They are English friendly and very gracious and welcoming. Overall we were impressed with the steak and frites and would definitely return just for that and the amazing chocolate dessert. read more

Found this on a list of Top 10 restaurants to visit in Paris and this place did not disappoint! Booked a reservation a week ahead of time back in the States and when I arrived my table was ready. Small, intimate location with amazing food! Started with the foie gras and butternut squash soup with chestnuts and mushrooms. The foie gras was decadent and the soup was exceptional. For the main course I went with the steak and frites. The steak was a perfect medium rare with just the right amount of salt and peeper and the frites were the perfect amount of crisp and salt. Finished things off with the chocolate mousse and olive oil sorbet, both were absolutely delicious and the olive oil sorbet was a great palate cleanser. I was VERY excited to try this place due to all of the stellar reviews and expected simple but flavorful French bistro cuisine. We ended up pretty disappointed and wishing we had spent this amount elsewhere. We got: The leek appetizer - I actually ordered oysters but I guess my French was bad enough to mishear, but I ended up rolling with it and loving the leek appetizer! Really delicious with great hazelnut crunch. Probably our favorite dish of the night, and by complete accident! Tomato and anchovy appetizer - Nice quality tomatoes but otherwise just okay. Not very flavorful, especially for anchovies. Steak frites - Everyone says that this is what to order here, so my husband ordered it. The sauce was lovely but the steak was VERY chewy and tough. He ordered it à point or medium rare. I also see on the website that it says it comes with a salad, but it did not. I don't think this was on the menu at the restaurant, so that's fine. Frites were just okay as well, same as anywhere in Paris. Pot a feu - The other big thing to order here. I was honestly SO excited to get this and so disappointed while eating it. It was just... bland. No flavor shining through from the meat or the veggies, and the veggies themselves tastes bitter. The broth really just tasted like celery. A disappointment. The piece of crispy veal they give you on the side was good, but wasn't really crispy even though I ate it first as they instructed. Nice and tender though. We skipped dessert after the lackluster main courses, and our wine was not great either. Service was very friendly and definitely adds to the experience here, and the bistro itself is beautiful. I am a huge fan of Chef Daniel Rose and had the most amazing meal at Spring two years ago. I'd been dying to eat at La Bourse et la Vie and saved it for my last night in Paris assuming it would be the best meal of my trip. Sadly, I was extremely disappointed with pretty much everything. The music did not fit the atmosphere. I didn't appreciate dining to Donna Summer's "Bad Girls." The service was terrible. For example, they never puree the water, I had to our it myself, and they brought me a new glass of wine and did not remove the empty one!! Plates are cleared overly fast and the waitstaff never asked if I was done. I felt as if I was being rushed out the door and was in and out in a hour!! I started with the Poiraux vinaigrette, noisettes due Piemont (leeks with vinegarette with shallots and hazelnuts from Piedmont). The dish was amazing, bursting with flavor and cooked perfectly. Next, I had the Filet de Barbue a la grenobloise, salsifies (fluke fish cooked in skin in a pan with brown butter, lemon, capers and croutons served on a salsifis (turnips and carrots) with crunchy croutons which were odd.There was a cheese selection, chocolate mousse and sorbet on offer for dessert, and since none of them appealed to me, and I was disappointed overall with the restaurant and experience, I opted to get the check and go elsewhere. Overrated... didn't enjoy it... bad experience. I went there for a dinner with a friend of mine after reading multiple good reviews about the food. My experience, however, wasn't positive. The service was too fast and we felt rushed. I ordered red partridge (perdrix) and was immediately disappointed. There were four pieces. Two were stiff and chewy, the bone was crushed and it was hard to separate meat from the crushed bone pieces. Another piece was undercooked and had a lot of blood inside (see picture). The forth piece was good but by the time I had it - I didn't enjoy any of it. The prices are high, about 40 euros for a meal with taxes. In my opinion - not worth it. There are definitely better options in the neighborhood that offer better food and value. read more

Three friends in Paris, reservations, quaint little spot. We had the window table so I sat with my back to the street. The place is quite small as are most of the places we visited. If you're claustrophobic or looking for a romantic table for two, I'd venture to say that you won't find it here! The staff, don't recall their names but they were both very helpful and just friendly in general. They had just re-opened after their holiday (5 weeks paid vacation for those who don't know) so they were trying to get back in sync. The menu is limited but I had poulpe (octopus) w/ tomatoes as a starter, the veal soup as an entree and the chocolate mousse as a desert. I believe my friends had the steak and frites and the fish which still had the head! The poulpe was great! The octopus was cooked just right, not too squishy or chewy. The tomatoes added a warm flare to the tentacles as it was warm and a bit spicy. The soup was okay, broth was good, the veal was cooked nicely. It featured a bone with cartilage and a spoon, not sure if I was suppose to eat it with the soup or mix it in for flavor. It was served in a gigantic bowl with a ladle and no additional bowl so I just ate with the smaller spoon provided. The 2nd plate featured (see picture) was just an additional cut of said veal with a cold salad like concoction splayed across it. It was good as well but I could've done without the salad. The chocolate mousse was nice but it didn't look very appeasing (see picture). It was smooth and just melted in your mouth. The guy waiter talked to us about his holiday in Japan and how us Americans don't know how to vacation as we explained having to take off, paid time off and/or making up time. Service was great but transcending those tiny stairs for the toilet was scary, nice, clean bathroom stall though. It was a good evening. read more

In the Bourse neighborhood (hence the name), this unassuming restaurant is small and personal. I came here specifically for the prix-fixe lunch menu (steak frites). The service was exceptional -- they checked on me an appropriate amount throughout the meal, made excellent wine recommendations, and when I was the last person in the dining room at the end of lunch invited me to stay as long as I wanted with a complementary glass of wine. I've dined in many wonderful restaurants around the world -- this was very special. In regards to the food, the steak in France is cooked differently that in the United States, so if you're American and you're used to ordering your steak medium rare, it will come more on the rare side in France. I ordered mine saignant (rare) and it was perfectly red and tender on the inside, but that's how I prefer my steak. Of note, the server checked with me that this was indeed how I wanted my steak cooked. Also, the fries were absolutely fantastic. Reservations recommended. Many Americans there. They speak English but menu was strictly in French. Delicious, authentic and classic French cuisine. Salad with anchovie vinaigrette, pot au feu, the most delicious sweet breads we've ever had. Chocolate mousse for dessert was also fantastic. read more
