Before kids, before Mrs. Picante, heck-- before a passport was required for "less than 72 hour travel" to Baja California, I spent quite a few weekends heading down to Puerto Nuevo and La Bufadora in Mexico for kayak fishing and camping. Those were some good times in my life... notable for many things, but among them, the amazing seafood to be had in town. My impromptu travel to BC may be a fleeting memory, but stopping into La Bufadora is a suitable replacement, if not a reminder, of those chapters in my past. This place makes a pretty authentic fish taco... they've even nailed the subtleties of difference between San Felipe fish tacos and Puerto Nuevo's. Salsas and dressings are always fresh, the tortillas are fragrant and tasty, and that veggie crunch on the grilled fish tacos brings it all together. I've also dabbled with the shrimp taco (which is pretty huge), and grabbed a few other odds and ends for the kids to enjoy. The El Monte store is closer to me, but when I'm heading out Arrow Highway, and I have a little time and coin to spare... this place is always worth a stop. Ordered an asada burrito and it was not good. The salsa that accompanies the burrito tasted very bad. I'm not sure if it's made in house or not, but it resembled the taste of salsa from a can. The meat was very tough and chewy and my entire burrito was cold. I don't know if they were having a bad day but I did not enjoy my meal whatsoever and I definitely expected something else. They probably have better items on their menu but I am not sure if I'm willing to come back and try something else just yet. read more

It's Taco Tuesday time! It's cold and rainy out today so we ordered over phone for pick up. I ordered fish, shrimp and asada tacos ... all very tasty! The slaw on the seafood tacos is delicious as well as the tarter sauce that they put on top. I've had tacos where the sauce overpowers the whole taco..... not here. Sauce is light and tasty. I love the food here, always delicious, but I do have to complain about service. Called in my order, arrived and paid and heard the girl at the register communicate to the kitchen I arrived. Im watching her goof off with the kitchen a little and mess around on a tablet of some sort, whatever. I'm waiting and seeing people place orders and walking out with food and I'm still waiting. It's been almost 30min since placing my order and I see the girl at the register realize my order was waiting on the to go rack, so she grabs it, takes it over to the pick up window and calls my name. So my order was ready a long time ago and either she goofed off and didn't realize it or the kitchen didn't communicate to her my food was up. I love this place, but service tonight needed to be better. Really disappointed. My food was warm, decent, but the experience was ruined by this bad service. Come here on taco Tuesday for the most bang for your buck! Their breaded fish and shrimp tacos are very good! They also serve these chilies in the side that have a little kick to them but pair super well with any taco one decides to fest on. The staff is friendly and work very fast in your orders. There isn't much room inside and the restaurant is usually packed and noisy during lunch hours. The only thing I wish they could work on is more combo options for the fried potato tacos. They also sell ceviche with different kinds of seafood like octopus and shrimp. read more

Food is actually good. Service lacks sometimes but it's never been to the point where I leave unhappy. Today though I was in a bit of a hurry I had to make it to see my brother at the hospital and decided to grab something quick. I walked in and wasn't even acknowledged, the lady was having a problem with the register, as I patiently waited. Another gentleman came to assist to the register and he quickly directed his attention to the guy behind me. He couldn't even ask who was next. Nor did the lady that had already seen me in line say anything. No courtesy by anyone. I found it rude and unprofessional. I'll probably be back but today someone else got my money. read more

I was a little nervous when I came because I realized I left my card at home and I only at $6 in my pockets. Usually a meal would cost around $10? But thankfully! They have weekday specials! I came on a Thursday which was $4.99 taquito thursday. I was assuming I wouldn't me full from 3 taquitos and would probably go out a little later for more food. When I got the taquitos, It came with a generous scoop of guac and topped with some cheese and lettuce. The taquitos filled me up and I really liked the huge plop of lettuce on top ( it made me feel a bit healthier having some greens). Usually places would charge extra for guac but it came with it! Outside they had your usual condiments with the green and red suace, radishes, lemons, and their peppers! It made me really happy that I was able to order something affordable that was really filling and not so much an appetizer. I really like this spots fried fish and fried shrimp taco. Majority of the time, it's good and consistent, but there are few times that they are not. Sometimes it's fried, nice and crunchy. Few times, it's not fried thoroughly, like you can taste the batter. But overall, it's good. It's my go-to items at this spot. I had their carne asada street taco for the 1st time and I was not impressed. The tortilla was very stale. For almost $3 each, I expect much fresher ingredients. I'll stick to their fried fish, fried shrimp, and potato tacos. read more

Morning scarfing down fish tacos... lunch feasting on fish tacos... dinner gorging on fish tacos. At bedtime dreaming of fish tacos. Their Wednesday fish tacos specials have changed a few times in the window. Boo hoo the three fish taco special with rice and beans and a soda combo was the bomb but now gone bye bye. Guess there was no profit. Asada tacos were not that juicy and were dry and salty. I guess the future is just surf no turf. Surf's up... still the fish tacos are the best around. Ooooh boy that condiments area gets hammered and people leave it all jacked up. Onions, peppers, sauces and carrots tossed everywhere. Wonder if they do that at their house? By the way stop by next door at the donut place and get their banana blueberry smoothies... yummy. Parking lot is a horrendous nightmare. One car even plowed into the front doors and windows of the liquor store that's right next to this place. This place is excellent and very cheap. I was thrown by the cheap prices to think that the ceviche would not be enough to be a meal on its own. It definitely can be it's own meal. The grilled shrimp salad is fantastic, with excellent taste, and they don't skimp on adding the shrimp. read more
