To say I had a mouthgasm would be an understatement. I went with my son for dinner. Glen Cove had the street shut down for live music. We sat outside. Then the food came . Phenomenal baked clams, Fried mozzarella, and the the piece de resistance. The absolute best chicken parmigiana with spaghetti I have ever eaten. And I have eaten alot. We cleaned the plate. Attended a dinner here after a baptism and the service for such a large group was impeccable They had enough vegetarian options for me and they ALL tasted amazing, even the salad was good The only little issue was their bathroom situation, the downstairs was a bit flooded and there was only 1 stall upstairs so there was a wait to use it. Dinner and service were good at this family owned restaurant. Make sure to make reservations as it was crowded for weekend dinner. There is a bar as you walk in. Restrooms are downstairs. They have comedy night - dinner and a show at times. Variety of choices on the menu, include coctails, wine, and other beverages. Also dinner specials as well. Lighting is dim for dinner. Complimentary warm bread as you wait for your order. Drinks: Soda and ice tea $4 each which includes refills. Malbec for the wine enthusiast. Appetizers: Shared the burrata (very creamy) and grilled octopus (was ok) Entrees were filling: Fruitti di mara (seafood pasta) with linguine as $5 add on. This was good an filling dish...had to pack it home for another meal. Some dishes do not come with pasta automatically so do ask. Other entress: Broccoli de rabe with sausage, pan seared salmon with fennel and asparagus, and caesar salad with chicken. All dishes were good and filling. My family and I ventured to La Bussola located on School Street in the heart of Glen Cove for their April special: every Monday in April they offered 1980's prices. We scored a 4pm reservation for 4ppl and were seated immediately. Parking is easy; there is a small lot in the rear of the restaurant, where the entrance is, as well as a multitiered parking garage (free). Because of the special going on, everything was ala carte (totally understandable). A suggested gratuity was stapled to the check. I agree with this since the prices of the food were 1980's--the tip should be 2022. THE GROWS: At first we attempted to enter the restaurant on School Street, only to find out the only entrance is in the rear. Don't know if we missed the signage, but we had to walk around the building. THE GLOWS: A warm bread basket was brought to our table immediately upon sitting. The bread was fresh, warm, and there were two kinds for us to choose from. Our water glasses were refilled constantly. We ordered the eggplant parm, shrimp oreganata, veal rollatini, and filet of sole meuniere. We shared a stuffed mushroom appetizer as well as fried zucchini. For sides we chose the angel hair pasta with meat sauce and the sauteed escarole. The food had that homecooking feel of an old-school Italian restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every bite. The food was served hot, presented beautifully, and none of the items I ate had me grabbing for extra water (too much salt is a no-no for me at a restaurant). When it was time for dessert, another person came to our table to take the order for coffee and cappuccino. We learned that his name is Brandon and he is the grandson of the original owner. He pointed out the picture hanging behind our table; it was a beautiful 1950's wedding picture. He said, "that's my grandpa there." He further explained that they do the April 1980 price special in honor of his grandpa. What a sweet and pleasant young man he is. He asked us how our food was, valued feedback, and said he hoped we come back again. I cannot wait to return! They have a extensive menu that made it hard to decide what to have. In addition they have specials! I had chicken parmigiana and it was amazing. Glass of Chianti with it was perfect. Linguine vongole had garlic that was burned, all black and inedible. Not much clams. Served in a dish that would usually be used for a side order of vegetables. Just ridiculous. I loved the whole Branzino, the best that I've ever had... plump, crispy skin, head and tail on as requested. I took half home. Other standouts were the grilled calamari with hot cherry peppers, stuffed mushrooms, Halibut on pumpkin risotto and the traditional Manhattans. We just had my son and daughter in law's rehearsal dinner there Thursday 8/10/23. What an amazing restaurant!! From booking the event with Carmelo and following up with David with the menu you couldn't ask for more. I've been to this restaurant many many times and the food is always excellent. The staff is always attentive . They will accommodate you if you want an addition or elimination of an ingredient if necessary. The chef creates wonderful dishes. We brought our cousins tonight. I was expecting the food to be better considering that this restaurant was rated so highly here and on Open Table. Every dish was average or below and I've had better food in pizza places. The service was very slow and it took close to 2 hours to get our meal even though the restaurant was not full (maybe 2/3 of the tables were taken). We were a large party of ten and were very happy sitting and talking to each other but there were tables that came after us and left before we were even served. Had the food been better, I would overlook that but it was quite disappointing and mediocre and unfortunately it will be a one and done for us. Early dinner tonight with friends from Bayshore visiting us in Glen Cove.. We went with tried and true thinking that an early dinner would go smoothly, that the service would be attentive not just because we were the first to sit in what was an empty dining room, but because of their reputation. There was waitstaff aplenty.. Tonight however, the service was not as it used to be. Our waiter was slow to take our order, slow to follow up then disappeared. We ended up flagging down the bread/water server for help, and finally the check.. After years of dining at La Bussola, I've decided to stop spending my money where it's obviously not wanted. We came here on a Friday night for restaurant week. We check the Long Island restaurant week menu before I made the reservation and everybody agree there was enough food for us to be happy with. We had a 745 reservation and were seated immediately. We were given regular menus and restaurant week Menus and lo and behold the restaurant week menu was totally different from the one we had seen online. So we ordered off the regular menu. We split big clams and they were tasty I had no problem with them. I had the Frutti de mare as did my sister. We were asked if we wanted that over pasta and we both said yes. I have never been to a restaurant where I had bern served this and not had it over pasta. I'll meals come in mine and my sisters were meh. Very bland no kick no spice. My friend order the garlic shrimp over spinach and pasta and she said that was good. We split a dessert three ways and then the bill comes. Imagine Our surprise to find that we were charged for the pasta in our Frutti de mare dish!!! $5 each plate. NEVER EVER have I been charge for the pasta in this dish. Not only that but when we were asked if we wanted it over pasta there was never a mention of an additional cost for the pasta? Hell for five dollars I could've bought enough pasta to serve everybody in the restaurant!! So between the story we were told about why the restaurant week menu was incorrect and being charged five dollars a piece for pasta for a dish that should be served over pasta we will not be returning. Plus the fact that the noise level was deafening my friend was sitting next to me and I had to keep asking her what she said because I could not hear her over the noise. All in all an incredibly disappointing evening. I gave Three Star's because the clams were OK the tartufo we order for dessert was good not that the restaurant had anything to do with that and after complaining the $10 charge for the pasta under the dishes was removed from the bill. read more

Some of the orders could have used a side of pasta that is not included with the dinner. That 1 potato crochet (although tasty) doesn't compare to a side of pasta. At least give us the choice of veggie or pasta. The Napoleon for dessert is a great finish to the dinner. Service is great and friendly. Seating is a bit close so acoustics are difficult.
